Cleaning the Lake Side
River slowly made her way down the long marble staircases, moving every once in a while, causing River to have to wait for them to let her move on her correct way. It was summer time, and to be honest, River didn’t know exactly how she felt about it. In some ways she was happy to get some free time away from classes, but then on the other hand, she liked the classes, and now didn’t know what to spend all her time doing. She was excited to go home and see her father, but then things changed, and now she was staying at Hogwarts until further notice... which would probably be the entire summer. On top of it all, the students who stayed had been given responsibility of getting different chores done by their time at Hogwarts. At first River was tempted to simply not doing any of the chores, but the more she thought about it, the more she realized she had absolutely nothing better to do.
She had already re-read her favourite books more times than she had kept count of, and she had browsed the library through time and time again, with no luck in finding any books of current interest.
I could probably ask a second year for their curriculum, and start studying ahead... Still, there was something keeping her from doing just that. Perhaps it was the feeling of summer sliding on, and the case with her father distracting her from actually getting any studying done at all.

There had been multiple choises of chores one could do for the summer stay. River decided she’d do a couple, for why not do it properly when you’re doing chores in the first place?
Today though, she decided she’d help out with the cleaning up of the lake side. It looked horrible after the previous events of the blossom fest. River had already helped out with cleaning uo the mess from the blossom ball, and tidying up the dancefloor and waste from that happening, but the lake side remained filthy. She’d passed the messy remains earlier, and the sight almost hurt a little. The lake had been a space River would go to whenever she needed some time to think, or to simply be by herself and read a book, or even sketch some times. The cover of the trees were perfect even on more sunny days, and seeing the place in such bad conditions was not fun in any way.
She wouldn’t want to come to such a dirty filthy place as this when she felt down, so River was determined to bring it back to it’s former cleanliness and charm of nature.

As River breached the grand doors to the castle grounds, she sighed slightly at the look of light clouds on the sky. It seemed the sun could shine through at any moment, and River hoped that would not happen as cloudy was her preffered weather condition, and would be perfect for spending her time outside cleaning up other peoples messes. That was probably what bothered her the most about this entire thing. Having to clean up other peoples mess for her own sake. They should have been the ones to clean it, though, most of them probably went home for the summer, and that left the students who stayed, like River herself.

River slowly approached the lake, as the littered ground came into view, she made a slight grimace of disgust and confusion. Disgust, because the filthy remains of the students were gross as could be, and confused, as to how they had managed to make such a mess, and why in the world they couldn’t have just cleaned up themselves after the fest was settled and over? Oh well, better get started and finish sooner than later... She had gotten gloves and plastic bags to clean the trash with. There were littered cups, pizza boxes and lots of other waste lying around. She ran down to the edge of the water to quickly pick up a couple pieces of plastic that had probably been blown into the small waves of the Great Dark Lake.
River knew of many of the creatures who lived beneath the surface, and being as facinated as she was, she couldn’t help but feel bad for them when thinking of how it could be if the lake was to become polluted with waste and plastic.

River’s nose wrinkled up with disgust as she picked up a pizza box laying next to a large tree stump. A slice of old, rotten pizza slipped grossly out of the wet cardboard box, and landed on the green slightly damp grass beneath. Ew, ew, ew, ew... She slowly reached her gloves hand out and picked the slice carefully up, and dropped it quickly down into the trash bag. This is so not the ideal way to spend the summer... she thought to herself and sighed heavily.

As she continued to clean up cup after cup, box after box, her mind drifted off. She remembered the previous summers. With her family back at home, and all the fun times they would have together. Staying at the cabin for weeks at a time, going for long hikes in the dark of midnight. Swimming in lakes and eating dinner together around the kitchen table... Now, that River was at Hogwarts, and her family was broken appart, she was by herself, picking up trash from the students who were out having a fun summer in that very moment. A slight feeling of jealousy turned her stomack, twisted it more than the old stinky pizza had done. I’ll send father another letter tomorrow, and see if he wants me home or not, she concluded, and continued cleaning every piece of waste in every nook and cranny of the area around her. Even though she hated the idea of this, knowing she’d get her favourite spot in the entirety of Hogwarts back and neat afterwards, drove her to working fast, and thouroughly.

In a while, she had cleaned uo every single piece of waste, pizza, plastic cups and mess made from the fest, that she could possibly find. After looking over the place a few times, she grabbed hold of the filled trash bags, and made her way quickly back to the castle. The sky seemed to be clearing slightly, and the sun came peaking through some of the fine clouds above. Great timing, River, She thought, and smiled slightly to herself.
