It was that time of day when it was too early in the day to call it evening but too late in the day for it to be afternoon. Sunlight wafted through the trees, casting a golden glow on everything it illuminated. It was so beautiful, which was why Amadea had decided to take a walk during the few free hours she had after dinner and before curfew.

She had decided to head to the playground, which she had not yet checked out with her busy days at camp. She had done so much already; she had swam in the Great Lake, attended her Herbology workshop lessons (in the Forbidden Forest!!) and gone to some other events. Overall, she was quite happy with her camp experience so far. She had hung out with her friends, met new people, and had a blast! There was also the plus that she didn't have to go home just yet. She could put off the inevitable for another month. She hadn't been home since winter break, and things hadn't gone well during that break. Her parents had been quite tense and her sister flat out ignored her. Once Amadea had arrived back at Hogwarts, she had no contact with her family other than the short letter informing her that her parents had split up. She really didn't want to go home at all, but she knew she eventually had to. She hoped things wouldn't be as tense as they had before.

Erasing all of the negative thoughts from her mind, Amadea exited her cabin and began to walk. The walk to the playground was not a long one; in fact, the playground was conveniently located right next to Amadea's cabin. It looked like any normal playground that Amadea would have found in London, with a few magical additions, like a mini Quidditch field. In fact, now that Amadea inspected the Playground further, she realized it was an exact replica of the actual Hogwarts Quidditch field. The entire playground was a smaller version of the school.

It was quite interesting; whoever had designed it had done well. Then again, someone had probably just magicked it into existence. After all, this was a magical school. Why would someone go through the bother of hand making something that could be conjured out of thin air in seconds? Amadea sat down on a swing at the edge of the playground, closing her eyes. She was absolutely exhausted, but it was a good kind of exhausted. Being here, sitting here, was relaxing her more than she expected. Now that all of her negative thoughts had been banished from her mind, she was feeling lighter. It was a good feeling.

Releasing a soft sigh, Serena glanced up and gazed into the clear blue sky above her head. She watched the very few clouds in the atmosphere move, incredibly slowly. Lifting up her arm, she peered at her hand. There were a few tiny scrapes and cuts on it. The result of her hard work, to be honest. Over the past few months, she had spent so much time training her mind and her body. She started to her homework, extra reading, spend hours practicing a spell over and over, reading up on anything and everything she had previously failed to do. During the start of the year, she had mostly slept in class. As a result, she missed so much key information and was now attempting to make up for this.

Not only that but Serena had started to train her body more too. Running around in the Camp Out had worn her down. She knew her stamina was not very good or that she was not physically strong enough to do any real damage. Of course, a witch relied on magic but you know, it seemed like a good idea to at least be strong enough to run around without collapsing in about thirty seconds. But she was certainly clumsier than she would have liked to admit. She hurt herself fairly easily even by scratching herself against the edge of the door. Exercising and practising spells no doubt led to more scrapes.

They were barely noticeable, in truth. Tiny superficial wounds that were no bigger than 5 mm. But Serena could see a few of them on her hand. There were probably more all over her body but she had not noticed those. Staring into her hand, Serena recognised that this was a sign of her hard work. It was almost comforting in a way. But she had no idea if her toil was actually paying off.

Today was one of those exercise days. She decided to get a short run in before bed. It had not been long and she was already knackered. She hated running, with a passion. What happened to broomsticks? Flying everywhere would definitely be her preferred method of transport if they were allowed in the castle. Walking was far too much effort. Serena sighed as she wiped her forehead on the sleeve of her t-shirt and lowered it to look around. Panting softly, the Hufflepuff decided to resuming walking instead.

She was dressed in a pair of red shorts, a white t-shirt and a pair of red trainers. She walked into the playground, which was far larger than a normal playground ought to be. However, this was Hogwarts. Everything was so well thought out here. Glancing around, the girl quirked an eyebrow. She had been to the playground before but this time, she came across sights that she had not seen before. It seemed to have even more here than she realised. Memorised by everything, Serena walked through the playground aimlessly. She was just looking around as she got some exercise in for the day.

It was at this point in time that she spotted her fellow Hufflepuff and now, Prefect. Grinning from ear to ear, Serena made her way over to the familiar girl, "Amadea! Hey, how's it going?" She asked her casually as she approached her, "I hear congratulations are in order!" She continued. Amadea had been a Prefect for a little while but Serena hadn't actually seen her since that time. Every time she spotted her, in the Great Hall or Common Room, she had to run off to do something and never really got a chance to speak to her. Or more importantly, congratulate her on acquiring the role.

Amadea kicked her feet across the wood chips, watching them fly beneath her feet as she sat on the swing. She wasn't really actually swinging at all, just sitting there. Maybe she should have chosen a bench instead, but it was too late now. She was already sitting and she wasn't going to get up.

It was at that moment she realized quite how lazy she was. Or rather, tired. Camp had taken a lot of energy out of her; it was a constant go, go, go at camp. Everyone was always swimming or doing something exciting that was great, but Amadea sometimes felt as though she could use a break. Maybe that was because she was out of shape or just didn't have enough energy in general, but no matter what it was, she was glad for this nice break after dinner. It was a good time to relax before going to sleep and then repeating the whole thing the next day.

A voice pierced through the silence, startling Amadea. She lost her balance on the swing, feet kicking out from underneath her, but thankfully her hands stayed tightly gripped on the chains, so she pulled herself back up to a sitting position. As she looked up to see who it was, Amadea realized it was her fellow Hufflepuff and Prefect, Serena. Immediately, Amadea blushed a deep shade of crimson that probably matched her hair color. It was bad enough when anyone else witnessed Amadea clumsy, but when it was someone like Serena it made her even more embarrassed.

Her clumsiness was one of the things she wished she could change about herself. Amadea was always managing to trip over something and bruise herself or accidentally knock into someone else. And of course there was that one time she tripped into the Devil's Snare, almost causing the death of her and Rhea Bishop. Amadea shuddered at the memory. It was something she never wanted to relive, ever. Thankfully, this incident was nothing life threatening. She had simply slid of the swing, but luckily had caught herself. Maybe Serena hadn't even noticed. Amadea was sure Serena had seen, but would rather comfort herself in the hopes that she hadn't.

Clearing her throat, Amadea responded. "Hi Serena! Oh why thank you," she said with a slight blush, that was probably masked by the deep shade of red that was still lingering from her embarrassment. Amadea assumed Serena was talking about Amadea becoming a Prefect. She realized that she hadn't seen Serena since she had become a Prefect. If Amadea was being honest, it felt like a long time ago that she had been given the title, which meant that she had last interacted with Serena before that. Now that Amadea was thinking about it, she hadn't talked to Serena since the Bonfire.

Thinking of fire was another thought that triggered Amadea to shiver involuntarily. Flames were one of the things she feared the most; after having a few near death experiences involving fire, Amadea had a reasonable hatred and fear of it. Serena herself wasn't the biggest fan of fire either, and Amadea didn't blame her. After all, anyone who had been that scarred, both mentally and physically, from the flames would never want to go near them again.

Focusing back on her previous thought, Amadea rerouted her thoughts away from things that frightened her. "I can't believe I haven't seen you since the Bonfire," Amadea commented. "That seems like such a long time ago..." Truthfully though, ever since Amadea had become Prefect she found herself quite busy. She was always running around with Prefect duties or trying to cram in some extra study time so she could ace her end of year exams. It was no wonder why she hadn't seen her fellow Prefect around school at all! At least they were both here now, at camp. There would be plenty of time for them to hang out during the month!

In all honesty, Serena thought nothing of Amadea's clumsiness. The Indian girl was probably just as bad, if not worse. The amount of times she fell over was probably something that her mother would be very embarrassed about. But in Serena's head, as long as Amadea did not get hurt, she would not have really paid any mind to it. She did, however, notice that the girl looked a little redder than usual. Blinking, she could not help but wonder if she was okay. That was something that would concern her. Perhaps she was simply blushing from the congratulations. Serena knew she was incredibly shocked when she was first made Prefect. It was both an honour and an absolute shock. She was half tempted to question the Headmaster's decision and be like 'Are you sure about this?!' but decided to accept it silently instead, though she still had no idea why she was ever chosen. Serena certainly did not feel worthy of the role.

The Hufflepuff walked over to her fellow Prefect, "Mind if I join you?" She asked, approaching the swings nearby. She was a little out of breath at this point so sitting down for a short while was probably a good idea. Did I mention how much Serena hated to run? Because she really did. Serena waited for a confirmation. Assuming that Amadea was happy for her to join, Serena would sit down onto the swing next to her, hold onto the chains and gently start rocking it back and forth with her feet. Should the answer be no or the question was ignored, she would continue to stand there.

"Yeah, it's certainly been a while," She replied with a nod. For a brief moment, Serena thought back to the Bonfire. That was weird. She did not mind the fire too much - though she did question why you would host an event with such a large fire after several students had recently been admitted to hospital due to the burns and injuries they had received from fires previously. But there was a weird guy there. She had tried to follow him but could not. He gave her an odd feeling. Perhaps the way that he looked so similar to the shadow creatures that attacked her. Serena had, at first, thought it was one of those but after a while, she realised it was just her imagination. Whoever he was, however, he was real. Amadea had spotted him too. "How have you been doing? How's being Prefect treating you?" She continued, deciding to try and move on from the lingering thought in her mind. It was probably just a figment of her imagination.

She laughed softly and nodded, "It gets a bit busy, right?" She questioned Amadea. Serena knew from firsthand experience how busy being a Prefect really was. She had learnt a lot over the past year. Being more organised was definitely something she had to get used to. Whilst Serena was used to turning up to things late, there were a few things that that was not okay for. Prefect meetings were something she always made an effort to be on time for. Aiding teachers, overseeing people's detentions or duel practices and to help organise events were other examples of things Serena had to make an extra effort for.

More recently, class and meals were other ones. She tried to get to class on time and set a good example during meals by getting there early, eating quietly and leaving before too many people arrived. A lot of her Prefect duties were spent on patrol duty. It was absolutely boring at times but occasionally, those were the times Serena found interesting moments. She had discovered a lot of random corridors or quick ways to get somewhere through patrolling. Serena had even found a few ways to sneak into Hogsmeade but that was a story for another time. Exploring the castle was something she loved to do and patrol duty did give her the option to do just that.

Thankfully, it didn't seem like Serena was judging Amadea at all for her clumsiness. Amadea appreciated it. Most people would laugh or point or make a joke about it, but Serena just brushed it off, not even bothering to mention Amadea's fall.

"Come sit!" Amadea invited, gesturing toward the empty swing next to her. She planted her feet against the ground, sending wood chips flying. As Serena sat down, she began slowly swinging back and forth like Amadea had, so Amadea brushed her feet against the ground to gain some momentum to keep swinging, that is, if you considered the small rocking back and forth she was doing swinging.

It really had been a long time since Amadea had seen her fellow Prefect. It was surprising to her how little of her fellow Prefects she saw during the day. Amadea had assumed they would always be working together, planning things and making sure the rules were being followed. But truthfully, there was so much work to be done that they barely ever had time to see each other and if they did, it was in passing while they were walking to class or a brief hello in the common room. While being a Prefect was hard work, Amadea wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

When she had first arrived at Hogwarts she was a shy little girl who hid in the volume of her hair. Now she brushed the hair aside and smiled at people in the hallway and wasn't afraid to initiate a conversation. Given, she still wasn't the best at small talk and often found herself at a loss of what to say or tripping over her own words, but it was a sizable improvement from where she had been at the beginning of the year, keeping her head down and not talking to anyone.

"I'm doing well," Amadea answered. It was the truth. She was still in awe of her experience at Hogwarts and if someone asked her about it, Amadea was sure she could talk about it nonstop for hours. There was so much to tell people and so much that had happened. She had changed so much and met so many new people. Almost everyone was so nice and came from such a different background than Amadea had and she was amazed at how having a different childhood changed perspective. She would have opened her mouth and gushed about this to Serena, but Amadea was pretty sure that the poor girl didn't want to hear about Amadea's deep observations about the students at Hogwarts. This was why Amadea wasn't good at small talk.

"I never knew how much work being a Prefect was," Amadea said. "I knew it would be a lot of work, but I didn't know it was going to be that much work." Amadea had a completely different version of what being a Prefect was going to be like in her mind. Then again, she hadn't thought she was going to be Prefect in the first place. While being Prefect was a lot of work, Amadea had fun doing it. She loved being able to use her powers for good things. She loved helping people out, both students and professors. She was glad that she got to spend time exploring the castle during her patrol duty, so then she could go tell her friends about interesting things she found after she was done. All in all, Amadea just loved Hogwarts and really didn't want to leave.

"How are you?" she asked Serena, turning the conversation back toward the other girl. "Did you love your first year at Hogwarts? I know I did." There had definitely been ups and downs, but the ups far outweighed the downs and Amadea couldn't wait for the second year to start.

Serena started to kick her feet against the swings a little faster, so she could actually swing a bit. She was always one of the people who loved to be right at the top and see how high you could swing. It was more fun that way. This time, she did not push with all of her might however. The pair were conversing - and it was easier to reply when you weren't in the air. Screaming down at someone was hardly very ladylike now, was it?

Laughing at her now colleague's response, she kicked her feet a bit more to gain some momentum. "Yeah it can be pretty... intense, at times, shall we say?" She joked. She knew first hand just how busy it got. There was a lot more to it than people thought there was. Some people thought it was easy, others though they could abuse their power and get away with anything. Luxuries and perks of being a Prefect, apparently. But neither of those were true. It was difficult, per se, just very time consuming. At times, there were hard decisions that had to be made - and those days were often the worst ones. She hated being responsible for making those hard decisions. Serena simply wanted everyone to be happy. If only life were that easy.

"It's fun at times, I guess though," Serena continued. Gosh, it sounded like she hated being Prefect. She did not. She loved it. It was perhaps one of the first times she actually made her parents proud. It was a role that she had earned off her own accord, her own hard work and dedication. It was something exclusive to her efforts and no one else's. Being the daughter of the Towers or Oberoi family did not matter in the selection process. Serena had earned it by just being herself. She was proud of it, definitely. Unfortunately, she also questioned if she was worthy enough for the role. Perhaps she was not. One of her closest friends stepped down after the camp out, perhaps she ought to have done that too.

Looking over to Amadea, she smiled softly, "Yeah I'm alright. It's been an... interesting year, to say the least." Serena replied. Did she love it? She was not sure. A lot of bad stuff had happened but then again, some good things happened to. It could have been better but it could also have been a lot worse. Explaining her words, to avoid confusing Amadea, Serena hid her uncertainty and masked it a bit more. "A lot happened, it's just quite a lot to take on board. I think I'm looking forward to having a small break though. I kind of just want to sleep and not have to get up early, you know?" She was pondering out loud. Perhaps it would be easier to be at home, where there was no curfew as such or wake up time. Serena did not have to patrol in the morning before class or after dinner. There was no detentions to run. She could wake up at ten o'clock, if she fancied or stay up till four in the morning!

"I guess just not having any responsibilities would be nice too..." She concluded, realising that at Hogwarts she had a lot of them. She was expected to carry herself as a Prefect, fulfil those duties, attend class and do her homework like a dutiful student, assist with extra activities such as the house newspaper or clubs she had signed up for. With any luck, she would also be on the Quidditch team next year and learn to duel better. There was definitely a lot to do. "I don't know... Does that make any sense?" She asked Amadea, wondering if she was crazy not to completely 'love' school life as much as her fellow Prefect seemed to. There were certainly parts that she was excited about but right now, she thought a break would be much better... It was definitely very much needed!

Amadea followed suit, kicking her feet against the wood chips on the ground to gain some momentum and swing.  Amadea didn't have a swing set back home in London - well, was London really her home anymore? - because of the size of the city and the very small size of their apartment. There wasn't much room for anything that wasn't a necessity. That said, she still enjoyed swinging whenever she had an opportunity to. It might seem like a childish thing to do, but Amadea loved it anyway.

Amadea let out a laugh at Serena's comment. It was quite true that being a Prefect could become very intense sometimes. After all, Amadea barely talked to anyone before she had snagged the role. She was still the shy little girl that didn't want to make new friends. Suddenly being shoved into the Prefect role was like being put into an entirely different world, which had already happened to her when she had begun at Hogwarts. She had to learn how to manage her time very well, balancing her duties with homework and her (very small) social calendar. While there were some perks of being a Prefect, like the luxurious bathroom they had, it seemed like there was a lot more work and not many incentives. Amadea loved the job though, or maybe she had learned to love it. After all, she had power. And she used it in a good way. She could make sure the rules were being followed at Hogwarts and got to plan things with her fellow Prefects and met a lot of people.

Considering Amadea hadn't known anything about the wizarding world before coming to Hogwarts, it was a little more than surprising that they had picked her of all people to be Prefect. She knew some of the others were Purebloods and had a lot of pressure on their shoulders to become Head Girl or Prefect or whatever their parents wanted. Sometimes, Amadea felt a bit guilty for having the role, if she was being honest. It felt like there were so many Pureblood wizards and witches that were striving so hard to be what their parents wanted, and Amadea felt as though she had stolen the Prefect title right from under their noses. After all, she was practically Muggle born and didn't know anything about magic until she received her letter. She was glad her parents supported her no matter what and didn't have expectations for her to become a certain person or do a certain thing in life. She was free to be whatever she wanted; while that was very freeing, it also terrified her. She had absolutely no idea what she wanted to be and it terrified her that she couldn't have everything planned out.

As she swung back and forth, she wondered how her train of thought had taken her to thinking about her future. Here she was, just sitting and talking with Serena and suddenly Amadea was thinking about the future. Focusing back on what Serena was saying, Amadea nodded. "Being a prefect is very hard work," Amadea agreed, "But I love it so much."

It seemed as though the other Hufflepuff Prefect had a different feeling about Hogwarts than Amadea did. Then again, after hearing some of the terrifying stories of what had happened during their first year at Hogwarts, Amadea didn't blame her. After all, there was the campout and the lock-in and so many other painful experiences. "Yes, so much happened!" Amadea exclaimed. It was comforting to know that she wasn't the only one who was feeling completely overwhelmed by the amount of information that had been thrown at her during her first year. She had thought it might be because she was Muggle born and had to work extra hard to learn things that might just be basic for other half bloods or Purebloods, but it seemed as though Serena had been just as overwhelmed, so Amadea felt less bad about it. Maybe it was just a first year thing.

"I personally loved my first year," Amadea said. "I really didn't know anything about the wizarding world and I learned so much and made so many new friends. While there were some very bad downsides..." Amadea trailed off, thinking about all of the crazy experiences, "I think they will help me grow and I will learn from them. But I also am looking forward to just sleeping in and not doing anything," Amadea added with a laugh. Just the thought of lying in bed without anything to do filled her with so much joy she thought she could just burst with happiness. She couldn't wait!
