There was about a half-hour left until curfew. Xailah had started her patrol a little earlier than usual. There was no particular reason for doing so, she simply just felt like it- considering she really had nothing better to do. Some students were already heading to their assigned dormitories, but there were a few stragglers that hung around in the halls, talking to their peers.

The unfortunate events that took place during the Masquerade Ball, had left the young Gryffindor, desperately seeking the comforts of home. She wished nothing more, than to be back in the cold walls of the home, in which she was raised. It would be a while till she would be able to go home for winter break. Actually, it wouldn't be too long of a wait, really, it just felt like winter break was taking forever to get here.

The Gryffindor prefect was seemingly invisible to passerby, as she made her way to the rehearsal room- but those that did take notice of the third year, and her feline companion, shuffled out of their way. Several Hogwarts students were scared of the prefect, mostly because she simply looked different. Or maybe they could see what she really was. A creature that only a mother could love. Something capable of doing harm. Something seemingly sinister.

But she didn't mind it. The way she saw it; fear was power. Though, she did think that it was silly thing-people being scared of her, considering that there were more important things to fear. Anyone who had been at the recent ball would know that. One would not know fear, until they were locked in a burning room with hundreds of panicking people. Being reminded of the ball, she would take a peek into the drawstring bag that she often carried with her, as she made her way down the corridor. A pair of tiny button eyes would gleam up from the small opening in the bag. The owner of the eyes, was a small burlap doll.

The rehearsal room was an unusual place to find the prefect. She did not patrol this area, nor did she regularly visit it. Her visit there would most likely be a one-time thing. She had heard that the rehearsal room contained a number of instruments, one of them being a grand piano. She was specifically there for the piano. It was one of the many things that reminded her of home.

Her conversation with a young Ravenclaw boy, in the library, had the Gryffindor feeling homesick. She had spoken of previous experience with playing both the piano, and violin, though she expressed that she wanted to return to playing the piano specifically. The room was fairly dark, though that was not a problem for the prefect. Her golden eyes gave off an iridescent- almost animalisitc glow. The black, slitted, pupils pulsated until they grew into two large circles; absorbing as much light in the room, as they possibly could.

The room did in fact have a piano. It wasn't as nice as the one that she had at home, but it would do just fine. She would take a seat, before gingerly picking up the large, grey, feline Schrödinger. The cat would be placed on the space next to her; where he would then observe his human. Xailah would then turn to the piano, and run a slender finger across it, as she familiarize herself with the keys. It had been ages since she had touched the blocks of carved ivory.

The smooth, black, fabric of her gloves, glided effortlessly across the keys. She would play a familiar tune. Familiar is a strong word- really, she had never actually heard the tune before; though she played it like she had just heard it yesterday. It was haunting. Elegant. And...familiar, even to those who were a stranger to it.

Opeila didn't plan to enter the Rehearsal room but when the eleven years old heard the sound of the piano she froze. She actually just planned to walk past the door downstairs to the Slytherin Common Rooms, but the noises made her curious. It felt like waking up. Since she has stepped into Hogwarts she didn't have an instrument in her hands, in fact, she didn't hear any music at all, except some singing from the choir. But the toads making noises destroyed even that. The clear sound of the piano on the other hand... It almost felt like home. It made her smile.

She couldn't resist to enter the room and look who was playing. She would just look for a second, she told herself, and then she would go downstairs and to bed.
But when she opened the door, her eyes found a violin in one corner of a room and she forgot what she just told herself. She was excited to put her hands on the fragile looking instrument. She missed hers so much, it used to help her so much but then her parents wanted her to actually concentrate on her schoolwork and classmates instead of burying herself again.

It took her a few seconds to remember the other person in the room and she forced herself to look away from the violin. "Sorry", she wispered, "I didn't mean to disturb you... You play very good." She was reliefed that her voice sounded stable. Music was a topic she could talk about without a problem.

A quiet shuffle. A creak of a door. Schrödinger would hear the sounds first. His plump grey body, would stir in the seat next to his human. A gruff "Waow" would be his way of alerting his mistress, of the intruder. The piano would come to an abrupt pause. Xailah did not immediately turn to see who had entered; she instead sat motionless, listening to the scurrying of soft footsteps. The noise could have easily be confused for that of a small animal.

It of course wasn't a small animal. Any responsible pet-keeper, would never allow their companions to run amok. A slight turn of a pale face, and Xailah would find a small girl in the room with her. Only a silhouette of the child was seen. The girl stood in a corner with the string instruments. The child offered an apology, but an apology for what? Xailah was simply playing the piano, there was nothing special going on. "Don't apologize."

Xailah turned again, her back facing the girl. "You haven't interrupted anything- but thank you. It would ssseem that I still remember how to play well." Her voice would be touched with a warm tone. The statement would be followed by the keys of the piano. The tune wasn't anything in particular, just random notes. "What brings you here? Its late, you ssshould be getting to your dorm, yes?"

The Slytherin continued examining the room, a little unsure wheiter to stay or to leave again.
"Don't apologize."
The girl had turned to her a little just to turn back now.
"You haven't interrupted anything- but thank you. It would ssseem that I still remember how to play well."
The first year smiled. "You definetly do. That was good. Who was the tune from?"
She was pretty sure that she had never heard it before, but she liked it. There was something in it, that comforted her.

"What brings you here? Its late, you ssshould be getting to your dorm, yes?"
Opeila nodded, a little reluctantly. "I guess I should. But there isn't really anything to do for me right now. Sleeping issues." She walked past the string instruments and then picked up the violin. Opeila didn't want to play now, even though it was very tempting. She missed her violin. For years it had been a part of her every day and now she had to leave it in Cambridge.
She would come back here some other day, she thought, when nobody else was here. What if she forgot how to play? The thought frightened her a lot. Her violin kept her from breaking under her loneliness, what would she have left, when she forgot?
Ridiculous. You don't just forget what you learn in four years of hard practice, do you?

When the younger girl asked where the tune was from, the Gryffindor could only cock her head in her usual curious way. "I'm not too sure, where its from." She admitted, letting out a pensive hum. It was very possible that she could have heard it somewhere, and had simply forgotten the source. In fact, it was the most likely. "I pick up on different songs, and tunes. I don't know where they call come from- I mostly play echoes of sssongs that I have heard in the past."

This was one of the many strange quirks, that the girl had. The Gryffindor was very much a parrot- and would sometimes mirror motions, or mimic sounds, in order to understand them. "I think that there is another part to it, but I'm not sure." She would then turn all the way around, to face the girl, her back resting on the lips of the piano, arms crossed over her chest. Vivid, gold, eyes would meet those of a tranquil, green.

Xailah let out a soft chuckle. Pale lips would part, to reveal a small, yet warm smile. "I get it." As a first year she had issues with sleeping. She still has issues with sleeping. Especially after the ball. Strangely enough the prefect did not suffer from night terrors like many other students. She suffered from guilt. Things were much simpler when she was a small first year, the only thing she suffered from was homesickness. Homesickness was a main cause of her lack of sleep back then- and it plagued her even now.

And for a moment, the Gryffindor wondered if the child was suffering from homesickness too. Slotted pupils would follow the younger girl around the room. Xailah watched the girl pick up a violin, with seemingly no hesitation. The child was either curious or, very familiar with the instrument. "You play, don't you? Is that why you came here? -Because if thats the case, don't let me stop you. If you want to play, then play." If the girl was to take up the violin, Xailah would remain quiet, and attentive, as a good audience should be.
