A discordant chord rang out from the piano, then another, and another, each harshly jumbled combination of notes accompanied by a strangled growl of frustration. Whoever was seated at the piano seemed to be in a truly foul mood as the mess of notes continued on, a piece that seemed to only be filled with rage and frustration. However, at last, the senseless noise ceased, replaced by the soft scratching of a pencil against paper, and the occasional sigh.

This was, of course, Ami's usual Saturday routine. She had been tackling harder and harder pieces to learn, setting aside at least an hour every Saturday solely just to practice her music. However, it usually ended in her getting frustrated, taking her anger out on the piano, and then letting her concentration and focus dissipate as her mind wandered elsewhere. Already, the sounds of the pencil on paper were diminishing, with longer and longer pauses as the Hufflepuff simply blankly stared at the paper in front of her, trying her hardest not to daydream while she was 'working'.

With a heavy sigh, she set the pencil down, before she squinted at the passage that she had just marked up. Lifting her wrists, she let her fingers fall upon the black and white keys, the rushing notes of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14, Op. 27, No. 2 mvt. 3 rang out through the room, before coming to a screeching halt as Ami slammed her fingers into more mushy chords in frustration. Slumping forward in defeat, she let her forehead come to rest against the piano, closing her eyes. Thank goodness no one was here to witness her random outbursts, her strange way of 'practicing' music.

If only her mother could see her now, defeated by Beethoven, of all people... what a sight she must have been. Messy hair clipped back in a hairstyle similar to that of the one she had taught Mardella to do, her casual clothes rumpled and littered with suspicious rips and stains. Even her boots, normally shiny and sparkling, seemed to be dim, as if someone had placed a lampshade over Ami's normally bright and glowing presence.

Sitting up, Ami glared at the sheet music in front of her before pushing it all off the piano with one great sweep of her arm, the papers scattering and rustling like leaves as the fluttered to the ground. Why couldn't she focus anymore?

The second year decided to walk towards the rehearsal room, he had never been there before or only for a slight amounts of time. Actually he did not even remember how the room looked, just that there were instruments for students to use and that the room was nice for singing and just playing music.

The second year decided to try playing his guitar in there, as he noticed that his common room was rather loud and he did not want to bother Scott if he should come back to their dorm. Scott was the only person he knew from there, another Gryffindor he did not know the name of was asleep in the room, taking a nap, which also was a reason for him to look for another place to pull the strings of his guitar.

However when he entered the Rehearsal Room he noticed the face of a girl he had never seen before, or did he and forgot? Alan forgot a lot of people's faces, making him wonder if they met before. He decided for a no and just shuffled inside nervously. ”S-sorry, hope I won't bother you while playing”, he mumbled shyly, standing there like a lost puppy.

Looking up at the sound of another voice besides her own disgruntled mumbling, Ami immediately swiveled her head towards the door, taking in the slight student that stood there. He seemed vaguely familiar, had they had a class together before? Probably- at any rate, he certainly didn't seem to be a first year, as not many of them wanted to come by the rehearsal room on Saturdays, preferring to frequent other gathering places instead, like the grounds or the Great Lake. The weather was getting increasingly nicer, after all, and she couldn't blame them.

She saw the guitar in his hands, and she immediately tucked her hair behind her ears, bowing her head in embarrassment. There was something that made you so vulnerable when a complete stranger saw you completely freak out, and it was a feeling that Ami certainly didn't enjoy. "I, uh... no, I should be the one apologizing," she said quickly, hastily getting to her feet, the piano bench sliding backward with a horrendous screech. "Um... you can, uh, practice... I'll just clean up real quick..."

Bending down, she began to collect her scattered music sheets that had drifted across the floor, her face an alarming shade of red. She figured that he must have been pretty serious about his music, considering that he was practicing on a Saturday. Ami figured that if not for her sheer stubborness and determination to master this piece, she would've been outside as well, or perhaps seeking out Scott for a game of Exploding Snap, or something. Anything besides being inside on such a lovely day.

"I, uh... sorry, again," she said sheepishly, as she straightened up, picking up the last sheet of music. She began to comb through the sheets, putting them back into their correct order. "You can, uh, practice now..." She supposed that she could just sit at the tables and figure out some more fingerings while she waited for the boy to be done practicing, and just patiently wait for her turn at the piano once more.

[quote]Alan's eyes widened as he looked at the girl. He watched with panic raising within him, as she began to collect her stuff and he did not know what feeling was more prominent while rushing through his mind. Guilt or Panic. Panic? Guilt? He was clearly not sure as he stumped forwards and raising his arms like he was caught or anything.

”N-no no, really d-don't worry! I have a guitar so I c-can simply go somewhere else! But you can't just take a p-piano anywhere!”, he tried to convince the girl. He did not want to chase her away or anything, after all she was the one who was here first and all. So him staying her while she left would just be rude, so he did not want her leaving. It would make her feel bad and all.

”So y-yeah... I will just g-go to the Lake!”, he finished turning to leave the Rehearsal Room again. He could test the room any other day, he did not need to scare another person away for that. He just hoped that he would manage to see the room the next time without anyone in there. He hated to interrupt someone like that and the girl seemed to feel clearly uncomfortable.

Ami hesitated, her gaze softening as she quietly regarded the boy standing in front of her with a skeptical glance. She genuinely couldn't understand why on earth someone would want to leave the safety and tranquility of the room for somewhere else, even if his logic was sound. He did have a gutiar, and she had been playing the immovable piano... but no, she was too frustrated to play, anyway. "Seriously, man. Go ahead and play," she insisted, the tone in her voice suggesting that there was no room for arguing, that her mind was already made up.

"Really, I don't mind- I have some work I've been putting off, anyway, so you can stay," Ami continuing, crossing the room and settling into the chair behind a table in the corner, placing her sheet music and her school bag on the table. This was true- she hadn't gone to Alexx for help with her homework in three whole days, and it was obviously taking a toll on her- already, her stack of homework had doubled, all of it untouched. She might as well attempt to be productive if she was going to sit around and wait for a while.

"How about this-" Ami continued, shuffling through her school work. "You only let me play when I'm done with all my homework. I swear, I'm going to flunk out if I keep this up... plus, I get free study music!" She smiled widely at Alan here, gesturing for him to stay and play. "That's a good deal, if I've ever seen one."

Alan stared at the girl, not too sure what to think about this. His guitar play was not good, he had no practice and just started learning it. And the few lessons his cousins gave him were months ago so he had no clue, if he would fit the girl's expectations. ”Deal”, he muttered nonetheless, because he just had to try. Trying won't hurt him. ”But you gotta play some piano afterwards”, he added.

He knelt down to place his guitar case onto the ground and pulled the yip open. With a nervous sigh he opened the lid and stared at his guitar. It was a pretty one, at least he thought so. It was mostly in red painted wood and sized for a child his age. (refer to his encyclopedia for more information). He gently took the guitar by its hand and stood up, waiting for the other girl. ”What is your name anyway? Don't think we met before?”, he asked. Maybe they did, but Alan's memory of faces and names was horrible. Sometimes he was afraid he would forget his own name or look into the mirror and not recognize himself anymore. Alone that thought was scary and Alan shook his head to get rid off it.

Although the Gryffindor agreed to stay and play for her, he decided to throw in the condition that she would have to play for him, too. Glancing down at her mixed up sheet music in her hands, she shook off the shame and insecurites draped across her, reminding herself that she had other pieces already memorized specifically for the purpose and intent to be played for other people. "Yeah, sure," Ami agreed, grinning amicably at Alan. "I'll play some when you're done. Erm... when I'm done with my homework."

Settling into her seat at the table, spreading her homework out across the surface as Alan unpacked his guitar, Ami smiled encouragingly at him- it was pretty clear that he was a little hesitant about playing in front of someone he didn't know very well, even she could see that. "I'm Ami. Procoppio. Second year Hufflepuff... and you?" She had to admit, such introductions were always tedious to her. Why couldn't they just wear nametags, or something? While robes would give away your house, it was impossible to know someone's year. Really, it would be so much easier to just have nametags or badges proclaiming it all at once.

Shuffling her homework around, she picked up a sheet, starting to answer some of the questions that the professor had assigned them. See? She did homework... sometimes.

Alan looked at her with a brief moment of suspicion, before he shrugged that feeling off and replaced it by smiling nervously. That was a stupid idea, he clearly was an amateur at playing the guitar! He bit on his lip lightly, before placing the guitar bag on the ground and taking it out. A bit of dust has collected on the mahogany colored wood, as he had not played in a while and had once forgotten to close the lid of the bag. That way it had been collecting dust for a couple of days.

“My name is Alan Vanes, but just Alan is fine!”, he offered, giving her a small smile as he took out a handkerchief to dust the guitar. It was his cousin's before, Alan has just gotten it this summer and he liked the sound of it. He was nowhere near good at playing it, but that was not his goal. He just wanted music to be fun and do something that sounded somewhat decentish.

He looked over to the windowsill of the rehearsal room, build with heavy bricks. ”Wanna go to sit over there? There are not many other options for sitting down,” he pointed out, already taking a few steps into the direction, before casting a glance to see if the girl agreed or not.
