Private to Hufflepuffs & Slytherins
Saturday 14th December 2019
Winter was definitely coming. The temperature had dropped suddenly, causing people’s breath to become visible. The grounds were relatively quiet, with most people snuggling into their warm blankets besides a cosy fireplace and a cup of hot chocolate within reach. Well, most people that weren’t Slytherins and Hufflepuffs.

The sky above was clear of clouds today. It was cold, certainly but it was a nice clear day. The weather was the perfect sort of crisp, clean and fresh. Perfect for a quick game. Not too long ago, the two houses had come face to face in a match. A quidditch match, to be more precise. The badgers might have won that match but this one would be different. This one would obviously go to the Slytherins. Well, at least, that was what Professor Jensen said to Professor Browne, who seemed annoyingly chuffed that his house had beaten hers. Sure, he probably would have been happy either way. He was all about ‘having fun’ rather than winning. But every smile, wink and smirk seemed like gloating and it was driving Jensen crazy. Only she could gloat.

Jensen scanned the grounds. The pair had finished setting everything up. There were two clear lines, parallel to each other going across a patch of grass. Near one line was a box of balls. Way too many balls. Near the other was where the professors were currently standing. There was a box of bludger bats near them. A lot of bludger bats. Not too far from them, was a pile of snowballs. Perfectly circular snowballs. It was weird how perfect they were.

In the distance, past the box of balls, Jensen glanced to observe the target markers that had been set up. They were easily visible from the batting line. A little circle sign that marked the distance, every ten metres or so. Students were given white sweaters with a strip of green or yellow, respective of their house. The two Heads of Houses were also dressed up for the occasion. Caradoc Browne almost looked smart in his outfit whilst Hjørdis Jensen must have looked a bit insane, with her outfit including a skirt in this weather. She did, however, have proper trainers on instead of heels, for once.

Both heads of houses waited for the students to show up before explaining the rules of the sport. Caradoc was smiling beside his colleague. The grin on his face was surely the reaction on seeing his own Huffles arrive in their respective cricket sweaters. “Don’t you all look lovely ey?” he shouted so both the badgers and snakes all the way in the back could hear him. “Now listen closely and get your head in the game. I assure you, It’s very simple.” He gave Professor Jensen a wink as he stepped forward a bit. “You will be scored based on how far you can hit the ball. The house with the highest score, wins.” He paused, motioning towards the target markers to indicate where they will have to aim.

“Every round, you will get the opportunity to bat if you wish to.” He pointed out the multitude of bats laying around left to be picked up by any who would wish to take their chance at aiming. “You can forego your batting round if you wish to try and distract the opponent players or defend your own teammates. Simple enough right?”

Hjørdis almost rolled her eyes at Caradoc. He was far too eager, for her liking. Turning her attention back to the adorable looking children in their matching Cricket jumpers, she decided to say the most important thing she needed to. Because these children apparently failed to understand the simplest of things. “I shouldn’t need to say this but since some people lack common sense, I will. The use of harmful and dangerous spells are strictly forbidden. Any attempt to hurt another student will result in detention, or my preferred method: expulsion. She really did not want another fire here. This was not one of those Hufflepuff events.

“Professor Browne and I will take turns bowling. For fairness, I’ll bowl to the Hufflepuffs, he will bowl to the Slytherins.” Hjørdis explained, motioning towards the Hufflepuff Head of House. Turning on her heels, she made her way to the bowler’s position, rolling up the sleeves of her sweater as she walked. She was ready. She rolled her eyes as she walked off, knowing exactly what expression was on Caradoc’s ridiculous face.

Rocking back and forth on his feet in excitement, Caradoc had a hard time concealing a large smirk as he watched his colleague get in position. Turning back to the students, he smiled.
“Are we all good? No more questions? And remember kids, when you see a series of insects dancing on the field, it’s just a cricket ball.” He gave them all a satisfied wink as he grinned at his own little joke.

Hjørdis rolled her eyes. Again. Did he really just grin at his own dad joke? Apparently so. “Browne, if you’re wondering why the cricket ball is getting bigger and bigger all of a sudden… it will eventually hit you. Now can we play?

Let the games begin! Hufflepuff versus Slytherin, round two.

Ehh no one else has posted but here we go, I'll just pop in here..

Annie made her down from the castle to the grounds. Her nose, pink from the cold winter winds poked out from her yellow and black scarf. Her hands shoved tightly into her pockets due to forgetting to bring mittens. She had heard from Professor Browne that Professor Jensen has been annoyed at their Quiddich win against Slytherin and challenged Hufflepuff to another game sort of thing.

When she got down to the field she saw the two Professors and took a place next to Browne. As she spok, her breath came out in a white cloud due to the freezing temperatures. "Professor Jensen, Browne, I heard we are having a rematch hm? Count me in, though it may not be quiddich I think I can handle a little game."

Annie had gotten a little boost of courage and glanced around the field expecting to see more people but only to her disappoint there weren't any others. "Everyone scared off from the cold are they? Seems like Hufflepuff will have it in the bag again." She began to get cocky but remembered she was in the presence of Professor Jensen.

She turned her attention to the bats laying scattered all over the ground. She picked one up and held it in a firm grip. "Kind of what the muggles call baseball.." Her eyes sparkled in determination. "Who said a Chaser couldn't also be a Beater? Let's give it a go!"

Serena rubbed her hands together, wondering why they were out in the cold wearing these random sweaters. Who wore white to play sports? It seemed a bit daft, as it would just get dirty. But nonetheless, she was there, dressed in a white sweater with very long sleeves that may have been a bit too big for her. She matched it with a pair of jeans and trainers. Listening to the instructions, she pondered what she role she ought to do. As she was deciding, she overheard a familiar voice. It belong to Annie Morgan. They had not spoken much but she knew her from the Quidditch team. She chuckled a little, hoping they could take home another victory for their house. That would be great.

A grin crossed her face. Serena grabbed a bludger bat from the pile and made her way over to the chaser, "Guess we're all beaters today?" She replied with a smile. Serena played as second string seeker. Her role was to be nimble, quick and find the tiniest object on the field. Not try and whack a ball. But she needed to work on her upper body strength and this sport seemed like a good chance to give it a go.

Taking her spot on the batting line, Serena readied herself tapping the bat on the ground as she positioned herself. She watched the silver haired head of house pick up a ball, bowling towards her. Taking a deep breath, she raised her bat, bringing it back behind her and made a swing for it. The ball was fast. She could barely see it. But she honed in her seeker skills to try and catch a glimpse of it, in the hopes she could hit it.

Teiki had wanted to join the quidditch team. Sure, she had signed herself up, but it wasn't likely that she would actually play. But when the Head of Houses decide to have a mini-competition, Teiki was all for it. She had walked out to the quidditch training pitch, sure she wouldn't be the only one to compete it this. After all, she knew that Huffles probably wanted to keep their win, and that the Slytherins probably wouldn't take another lose. All in all, it would be entertaining, she decided.

She arrived on time, if not a little early, her blue eyes bright. She was wearing the yellow-striped sweater and a pair of jeans. It was quite obvious that the young girl had not grown up in London, nor was used to this sort of weather. But still, it didn't seem to stop the energy that was the girl's personality.

"Cricket, huh? Sounds fun." Glancing down at herself, she realized that this sport would probably require some strength. But she shrugged, deciding that she would bat the first round, then see if she should continue, or provide support through the other actions. While the round was beginning, she listened to the comments that others had decided to include in the minimal discussion.

"Beaters and baseball, but no cricket? Well, first time for everyone, then." She shrugged, a soft smile forming. She walked over to the pile of bats, before preparing herself on the line.

Thora was ready to defeat the Badgers. Even though the snek had loads of homework to finish for the last few days of school before it wrapped up for the holidays, when she had heard about a Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin competition, she had been quick to put aside everything else. Now, Thora wasn't one for die-hard competition, nor did she live and breathe revenge. However, she did belong to Slytherin, and when they lost that Quididitch match, something had steeled inside of her. The Hufflepuffs had hurt their pride, and they were going to get it back.

Being an Irish girl, both in blood and in spirit, Thora wasn't exactly sure how cricket worked. So, hoping for the best, she had showed up in a green-striped cricket jumper to match her house colors. After all, with her disposition, she could be easily mistaken for a Hufflepuff. And that could not happen. It was nothing against the house, but as for certain people, Thora wasn't too particular for them.

There were already a few Hufflepuffs there. Thora was a little concerned as she felt herself, in jumper that was obviously Slytherin colors, standing out like a dark cloud in a patch of blue sky. Where were all the Slytherins? There was no way she could do this alone, as she didn't have the slightest clue of how to play cricket. Of the few girls that had showed up before her, she recognized two from the Quidditch team. Neither of them were Beaters, but that certainly didn't mean anything. Thora had learned many times over not to underestimate anyone, despite the circumstances. One of them--a Chaser on their Quidditch team, if Thora seemed to remember correctly--seemed quite arrogant. Perhaps they thought that just because they had won once, they would win again. Well, they asked for battle. And battle they would get.

Hoping that there would be more sneks coming that knew how to play, Thora gripped her wand instead. Professor Jensen had said that they could defend their own teammates, which Thora would much rather do. Honestly, she had more than proved her capability in casting spells. So, why not confuse the other team? After all, what was a game at Hogwarts without a little magic? Now, to pick her target. As all of the Puffs already on the field were planning to bat, she had her pick. After a moment of indecision, she decided on the Chaser. She didn't know her name, but she wasn't exactly the nicest person.

"Obscuro!"
Thora incanted, pointing her wand at her opponent. Now, all she could do was hope that more people would show up and the sneks could finally regain their pride.
Action | Cast Obscuro at @Annie Morgan

There was no way in the world Bridget was going to miss a chance at getting revenge on Hufflepuff. Nothing would stop her: not homework, not the frigid weather, nothing. Even though the Quidditch Match had been ages ago, some Hufflepuffs were still rubbing in their victory over Slytherin and it had to stop. Perhaps it was because of her damaged pride or because of her newfound habit of blaming herself for things, but she was going to make sure Slytherin won this time.

The cricket jumpers with their House colors they'd been given to wear weren't the most ideal clothes for the freezing day, but for the most part Bridget ignored it. There really was no use getting distracted by something she couldn't fix. Arriving at the site of the rematch, she noticed that very few people were here so far: the Head of Houses, a handful of Hufflepuffs, and Thora. Hopefully more people would show up to even out the teams, but it was still early.

Most of the Hufflepuffs who had arrived were batting, and although Bridget was a beater, she decided she liked Thora's strategy of distracting the batter much better. At least for this first round it would be a good idea so she could get an grasp on how the game was going to play out. By nature she defaulted to defense anyway, so throwing off the other team seemed like her sort of move. Thora cast the Obscuring Charm on a particularly smug badger, and while Bridget was very much inclined to hex her as well, she opted to distract a different opponent. Her hazel eyes settled on Hufflepuff's reserve Seeker. If she could catch a snitch, she had to have good enough hand-eye coordination to hit a ball.

"Verdimillious!" Bridget said, waving her wand in the direction of the Hufflepuff. Perhaps she wasn't directly scoring points for her team, but with any luck she'd prevent Hufflepuff from racking up points. This time, Slytherin was going to win.

Ugh Hufflepuffs....

The epicenter of all that is evil. The great leader of the death witches, the terrifying mastermind Reid Kovacs and his gargantuan guardian Quinn Healy were among Hufflepunks ranks. Then there was their Head of House, Mr. Browne. It was such a simple, unassuming name. Nobody would expect a man named after a mundane color to be one of evil's greatest facilitators. Sure, he looked friendly and nice like every Hufflepuff did but appearances can be deceiving. She had once tried, well started to until he lost interest, the fears that were gripping her. Then there was nothing, just this facade of a man that wanted to help. Wanted to know. In truth, it was a farce. An obligation to pretend to try at best, at worst a willful knowledge of what was happening and a lack of desire to intercede or an even worse truth, the one she came to believe - he was a part of it.

She did not care much about the other students there, they were weak. Maybe midget giants. Maybe fledgling death witches. Maybe future victims of the aforementioned. Either way they were without consequence to the part-Veela.

Erin eyed Caradoc. He was apparently doing something with a ball. So was her Head of House, the lady with weird letters in her name. They were supposed to hit the ball to score. They were permitted to use magic, just not the "dangerous kind." Allegedly she should add. She did not trust the rules. She did not trust the yellow jackets. She pulled the simple black leather gloves she was wearing tight. "Let's get started," she announced in a low, eerily calm voice as she chose her target -- @Caradoc Browne. Tackle him, gain control of his balls (the ones for throwing) to secure victory for the team.

She had no chance against a Professor but Erin was never one to think things through. She rushed Mr. Browne, she was going to try to steal a ball and 'mistakeningly' tackle, mean bump the old man in the process. The ball, this was an asset if she was able to get it. A weapon. A source of security and safety. If she gained control of the ball of score-making, she would wield the mighty ball's power and use it to her advantage. She would attempt to throw the ball at Caradoc.

Her logic was simple, control the ball. Control the points. Damage the thrower. Get to throw the ball where you want when there is no thrower. Become the thrower. Own all the balls. Victory, sweet and simple.
Action: Tries to steal the ball and throw it at Caradoc.

Persephone Barret wanted to be on the Slytherin Quidditch team- more than anything really. A bit of exercise and friendly competition never hurt anyone. However, she was simply too late in applying and was wait-listed for now. That was fine; she could kick Hufflepuff’s butt just as well in a casual game of cricket. A casual game that would result in Hufflepuff’s demise. With this in mind, and confidence radiating from her eerie grin, she showed up in her cricket jumper, perfectly matching the few other Slytherins that were present.

For a moment, she just watched the game, taking careful mental notes of what everyone was doing. Her fellow Slytherins were mostly working to distract, one of them attempting to steal the ball. The serpents all seemed to be exerting all their energy in defense, while the badgers contrasted this with most of them batting. Persephone decided quickly that Slytherin could use a batter.

Grabbing a bludger bat from the shrinking (yet still large) pile, she made her way quickly to the batting line, positioning herself perfectly along the line, the bat light in her hands. She was ready for this, ready for anything. She was the only first year Slytherin present and was determined to prove her worth and place in this house. And maybe get a good word in to the Quidditch captain, though she knew that wouldn’t help. Still, it would be nice.

Her eyes took to Caradoc Browne, who was bowling the balls to her. His joyfulness, his sureness that Hufflepuff would take the crown made her furious. Her stomach ignited with an angry fire, and she raised the bat to swing. Here came the ball, it moved so fast she could barely see it. Here goes nothing, nevertheless.

Under her breath, she repeated the same phrase over and over: “Your house is going down, Browne.”

And with that saying in mind, she swung.

When Erik listened to his head of house speaking about revenge he scoffed. Of course you were defeated by these Huffles... I wasn't on the team. I bet you guys regret that decision now., he mumbled silently. As he was pulling at the collar of his cricket jumper, that seemed to itch so incredibly much by the second, he groaned. These sweaters are awful aren't they? Remind me again why I let you persuade me to do this?, he said to Santario. The young werewolf eyed his team. He didn't know anyone here really besides San. Besides two other second years that were in the shuntbumps match with him a while back. As he looked at the other team they all seemed to be so cocky and so full of themselves. Erik couldn't stomach it at all. He would show them the game was on.

When he analyzed the enemy, he saw they were all picking up their bats whilst his team was deciding to play on the defensive. He immediately knew what he had to do. Step aside, girls! Let me show you how it's done. Erik cracked his neck and knuckles as he picked up his bat and tried a few swings before he stood at the ready like he was going to play baseball. Oozing confidence as he nodded at Professor Browne to throw a ball his way.

A smirk played across her lips as Erik mumbled something incoherent to himself and pulled at the collar of his jumper while they made their way onto the field. She, in an identical jumper, didn’t find it nearly as uncomfortable as he did. In fact, if Professor Jensen permitted it she would be keeping hers as she kind of fancied it. “Because you like competitive games and you want to spend time with me even if you don't want to admit it, yet.” She gave him a playful nose scrunch before looking out across the other players assessing the battlefield. “Besides I look great in this jumper. Hufflepuffs had four people grabbing bats and, including Erik, Slytherins had two. A few people, however, weren’t grabbing bats and she assumed spells would be flying.

She didn’t see a reason to need to defend Erik just yet so instead she would grab a beater's bat. She would push the French braid over her shoulder and onto her back while stepping up next to Erik, but not so close that either of them would get caught in each other’s swing. She may have had a delicate frame but she wasn’t useless when it came to performance either, so she figured some points would be better than none if she got the chance to swing on one of the balls. That was a big presumption considering it seemed like Erin was up to her normal antics, something Santario had grown accustomed to, even if it was annoying more often than not. She, for the most part, copied Erik’s stance and hoped her sharp eyes and normal dexterity wouldn’t fail her.
