Another try, right? Alan had been going to the Pitch every now and then, attempting to find out how to actually get over whatever his problem with flying was. Not only was he bad at it, he was also terrified. But as terrified he was of it, he was also willing to learn. Knowing that he had no chance of getting the Gryffindor Captain to help him, he actually had no idea who else he could ask. So what other options did he have except to train on his own? It actually made him procrastinate the times he got up early to head towards the Quidditch Training Pitch.

However at this point he had to, he could not continue to keep shoving this away from him or he might never actually do it. He remembered the Flying professor and a sour look crossed his face for a second, before he shook his head with a sigh. He had his broom with him, knowing that it probably was not a good one; it was an older school broom, given to him at a event as a present. He wondered how long it would take until he had to actually replace it.

He stepped into the pitch and looked around. So far he was alone, which was nice. No one was there to actually see him fail. So Alan began slowly, by getting the broom to jump into his hand, but even that he was not good enough for. No matter how often he said "Up" he probably did something wrong. Was it the stutter or the sheer lack of confidence? Alan would not know, he just saw that what he was trying did not work or help. Was there maybe another way to do this? Then again this was the normal way, the way Quidditch Flyer usually got onto the broom and ready to fly, so why would it not work out for him?

"U-up!", he tried again, holding his hand above the broom that laid on the ground as he glared at it, as if the broom was to blame. Maybe it was, but that was less likely. "Come on.. u-up!", he huffed with a bit of frustration, yet no actual command as it sounded more like a request when Alan said it.

Neculai found himself on the now already very familiair way to the Quidditch Training Pitch. These days it was almost all what he did. Waking up and training a few hours for Quidditch, sure he trained with his fellow teammates aswell, but there was just something about entering the Pitch alone and just do your thing. No thinking, no strategic plans, no teamplay, just him and his broom. It had become an extension of his body. It was freeing, that feeling to just soar in the air and trying to find that golden glimmer.

As he entered the so familiar stadium, the Ravenclaw boy, felt like coming home. This was the place where he had shined and took the win for their House. If anything, this was the place he may have felt for the very first time like it was the right choice to attend Hogwarts.

Suddenly he saw another boy. The young Dhampir observed the boy a bit closer with his blood red eyes. The boy had chestnut brown hair, that looked like it could really use a comb, sporting a red hoodie with a black pants. But the most obvious about him was the scarf he was wearing. Coloured in the red and gold of House Gryffindor. A broom layed in the soft green grass, whilst the boy held his hand above it trying to raise it.

"A First Year, no doubt." Neculai thought to himself. Walking closer with his Comet in his right hand, he cleared his throat. "Hello, there! S-sorry to disturb you. Need some help?" Forming his face into a disarming smile as best as he could.

With a frustrated glare Alan was standing at the pitch, his shoes in the muddy grass as his scarf was wrapped around his face and neck; reaching up to his nose. A flinch shook through him as his heart would speed up for a few seconds, when he was approached and suddenly spoken to.

Alan had not expected someone else to go to the pitch in the morning, well that sounded a bit like a dejavu, as he thought the same thing before he met the Gryffindor team Quidditch Captain, who was unwilling to teach or even lecture him in any way about Flying; so Alan obviously made sure to avoid meeting him there again. But Alan had assumed him to be the only one to train in the morning,so he was surprised when he heard a voice.

Alan turned around, looking over to the kid that made his way over to the third year as his heartbeat slowly found back to its usual rhythm as he curiously and anxiously took in the appearance of the other student.

Whoever it was, he must know his way around the field as he was wearing some light quidditch gear, with colors indicating the boy in front of Alan to be a Ravenclaw. Alan did notice the red eyes barely, as it was a slow going dawn so it was mostly dark outside. But he had no idea where to sort that appearance.

"S-sure", Alan mumbled, casting a glance at his broom before looking back at the Ravenclaw, adding, "Th-that would be nice!"

Without much of a second thought he picked up the old Cleansweep 2 from the ground, before looking up to the boy that was around his height. Maybe a bit taller? Alan shrugged before smiling nervously at the boy, "I am Alan, you?"

Neculai saw the Gryffindor boy flinching as he had asked him if he could use some help. “Apologies, if I scared you, didn’t mean too.” He added quickly. As the Ravenclaw came closer to the boy, he couldn’t help but think that the boy in front of him was quite tall for his age. The Gryffindor was even as tall as him, it wasn’t like Neculai was short for his age or anything. The Dhampir was of an average height for a 12 year old. The longer he was observing the boy with the chestnut hair the more he had a feeling like something in this picture wasn’t right, but he couldn’t quite lay his finger on what it was.

Suddenly he was realising that what was genuine curiousity might have come across as staring to the Gryffindor boy So Neculai quickly turned his gaze downwards. Hoping that the boy hadn’t noticed him staring, his cheeks started to redden, the pale white flesh of his cheeks. The Gryffindor boy spoke and identified himself as Alan. “Hi Alan, nice to meet you. My name is Neculai. Neculai Dragos Lazar the Third, but you can just say Neculai.” With that he extended a hand.

His scarlet orbs noticed the broom that Alan had picked up from the muddy grass. “Oh my… No wonder you got some issues with raising your broom.” The Dhampir couldn’t help, but let out a small chuckle. “No one could ever get me to fly one of those. I can’t believe the Ministry hasn’t pulled those off of the market yet. In my opinion they are too old and cause more casualties trying to fly them properly then playing a Quidditch game against a whole team of beaters!”

Realising that he was being blunt and might be insulting the other boy he decided to stop talking. “You’re doing great, Neculai… Real great… What was a nice gesture now turned in you insulting him” The nerves finally got to him and he started fumbling at the belts of his gloves.

The third year, who was actually a bit on the short side considering his actual age, shyly smiled at the Ravenclaw and proceeded to quickly shake his head to calm the other kid down. "No, no.... y-you aren't scary! No- what I mean is you didn't scare me, I just was not expecting someone to suddenly show up!", he explained, speaking a bit faster than he had to, but he was feeling a bit nervous after all. The tone of his voice was light, to some amount carefree even; there just lingered an amount of nervousness behind his words. Alan was not one to often approach other people, while he had an open personality, he was a bit reserved in those matters, especially if he had no idea who the person in front of him was.

Alan took little notice of what might have come across as staring to any other person, but for Alan that was just daily life. He was used to being stared at as he did not try to hide his heritage actively. He did not really brag about it either, but he just liked to be who he was. When the other kid introduced himself, Alan's eyes widened slightly as he feared not being able to remember such a long name, especially with the title, but the touch of panic soon turned into relief, when he was offered to just use his first name. "N-neculai it is then", he confirmed smiling slightly at the other boy, a bit more confident now, as he took his hand to give it a shake; not too short or to long but just the right amount of time before he withdrew his hand again. It seemed like Alan knew what he was doing, while shy and reluctant, he knew some etiquette at least.

When the other kid began to talk about the broom he had, he just stared at it and then back at the kid as he listened to him talk, waves of anxiety crashing down on him. not because of the boy's words in particular, but because of the meaning behind them. "So I should rather not fly it?", Alan asked, nervously as he eyed the broom in his hand suspiciously. "I knew it could not have been one of the best, b-but I had no idea it could be bad either! I got it from school... from like an event or so?", he explained, frowning slightly as he tried to remember, "I think it was a school broom.. probably and I had someone tell me how its called- the broom kind, I mean... b-but I forgot", he admitted, as he nervously let his hand run through his bangs, not the one holding the broom but his left hand.

Once he noticed the boy, fumbling the belts of what appeared to be gloves, he tilted his head slightly, "Are those for Quidditch? Y-you play it?"

He was doing it. He was actually doing it. Neculai couldn’t help but feel happy about this. The Romanian boy was in fact having small talk with another person! Finally he would be able to keep his promise that he had made before he left for Hogwarts. His First Year he had made two friends and besides seeing them in some of the classes he had mostly spent his time studying. The boy in front of him was similar in a lot of ways, Neculai noticed it. It couldn’t be too hard to notice another nervous person. “He probably doesn’t do this very often either or is it more the fact that I spooked him before.” Whatever it was he decided to follow his gut and guess that the Gryffindor in front of him was a nervous and shy boy just like him.

Alan returned the handshake, he knew the etiquette of a proper handshake. Not that Neculai would’ve minded if he hadn’t done what was called a ‘proper and firm’ handshake. It just surprised him. Maybe the boy was from a pureblood line aswell. Who could say, only time would tell. With a red face, he apologised to Alan. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it like that!” The Dhampir desperately tried to save him out of this hole that he dug himself into. “I-I’m sure that the school wouldn’t give you a broom where you could hurt yourself with.” The pale fingers let go of the belts he was a moment ago fumbling with as they dug in his brown hair scratching it. “Its actually quite cool you won a broom! What event was it?” The Dhampir’s curiousity was peaked as the possibility of winning better brooms might be available. Something he would be in the future on the lookout for.

“Yes, I play.” He chuckled. “I-Uh. I am the Ravenclaw Seeker.” He was proud he could say that. “We won last game against the Lions.” He grinned at that remark until he remembered that the boy infront of him was a Gryffindor aswell.

The third year would nod ever so slowly, the words of the other kid made a lot of sense to him. The school would certainly not try to kill him by giving him a dangerous broom, but it did not look very safe either and after hearing those words he would rather not try to fly on it anytime soon. Perhaps this all had been a stupid idea after all. "I-It was a S-Scavenger H-hunt for my h-house, i-it's been a while s-since then," the third year would explain softly, his voice sounding as shy as ever. However his words were accompanied by the hint of a small smile for the Ravenclaw in front of his own person.

Th-That's impressive!" he chirped up with widening eyes when Neculai told him about the game they have won against his very own house. However Alan did not care much about his own house's team, especially not after having had the opportunity to talk with his house's captain twice and both those times have not been the best kind of experiences. "Is th-this S-Snidget thing really th-that difficult t-to catch?," he wondered with some curiosity in his voice. He would by accident use the word of a creature instead of the actual snitch. He assumed it must be quite difficult especially with all the dangerous maneuvers one must use to catch the winged ball of metal.

The Ravenclaw boy looked at Alan as he was telling that he won the broom through a Scavenger Hunt. It seemed like a bit of a weird activity, but he wouldn’t judge. Noticing that Alan mentioned that it was for his house Neculai was curious if an event for his house would be more along the lines of ‘who could read the fastest or study the most or have the best grades or anything along those lines’. Closely listening to what Alan had to say Neculai’s body language started to mimic that of Alan and a small smile started to play on his lips. “So u-uh have you ever tried to fly it? Or what did you do with it?”

Alan complimented him on his victory. “I-uh… Thank you!!” It was strange to him getting a compliment, he wasn’t used to it, in fact he wasn’t used to it to having a conversation this long… “Well first of all it isn’t a Snidget you mean the Snitch. Its a mechanic golden ball, not a bird. And secondly it isn’t easy.” The Dhampir quietly admitted. “I have to focus really hard, you know? As its quite a small thing. I-I just look out for a glint you know, especially when the sun shines. It makes it a tad bit easier to track it then. Once you tracked it the hard part is just starting. As you need to chase it. You are so focused on this tiny thing, that you sometimes forget to pay attention on the things around you aswell. Because you know… They could be throwing bludgers your way without you really realising it.” The second year shook his head at the thought. “Glad I haven’t been hit by one of those yet… People tend to end up in the Hospital Wing after being hit by one of those things…”

"W-Well not r-really, b-because it d-doesn't really listen t-to me," he would explain to the other kid, shrugging with a helpless expression. He was not aware that this might not only be based on his insecurity even though it certainly did not help with getting the broom to fly up. However the broom was in a bad condition already and probably could only get worse by breaking in half. The third year had gotten the broom and stored it away since he had never even planned on using it, he had not known there was such a thing as broom maintenance either, but as it looked there was no hope left for his broom. Some of the spells must be wearing off as well due to its age as it was one of the older broom models and did not age well at all. Neculai had been correct to say that it was a danger that those were even still marketed at all.

The third year would listen intently when Neculai spoke about being a seeker of his team, sometimes he would not or make a face that would fit what was being explained such as cringing at the thought of being hit by a bludger. He certainly would never want to experience that. He made a mental note to never be a seeker, since with the snitch and all they seemed to be main focus of the beaters and therefore bludgers. "Th-That sounds d-dangerous.. d-doesn't th-that scare you? Th-That you c-could be h-hit or s-something?", he wondered as he slightly tilted his head, continuing to listen to Neculai in case he would elaborate on his explanations.

As Neculai intently listened to Alan, he cocked his head a little. As soon as the Gryffindor admitted that he hadn’t flown the broom yet, his red eyes observed the broom once more. It was damaged, never even bothered to maintain it. The Ravenclaw sighed at the sight of it. The Quidditch player in him physically hurt at it. “How can you have a broom and never even flown it? It looks like you already got it for a while.” His head nodded at the broom in question. “So you never tested it out huh? Don’t worry, I’ll help you with it After all you're merely at the start of your career here at Hogwarts, you’ll be able to fly it in no time.” The Dhampir his lips formed a smile where gaps could be noticed between his teeth.

Neculai was taken aback by Alan’s comment of Quidditch being dangerous. “Well… The game isn’t really known for being soft on its players.” The Romanian boy had a quizzing look on his face as he observed the first year Gryffindor. “He probably doesn’t know a lot about the game… Probably from a muggle heritage.” Not that that was a bad thing. In fact Neculai didn’t bother with being of a pureblood heritage or a muggleborn. Although Neculai his mother came from a pureblood line he didn’t feel himself more superior then any other student at Hogwarts. “Of course I’m scared!” The second year exclaimed. “But it is quite thrilling aswell. I’ve never been much of a sporter, but Quidditch is different, nothing beats the feeling of soaring through the skies on top of a broom." His mind drifted off and he was once again soaring through the skies. After what Neculai hoped would’ve been just a mere second he said: “The trick is not to get hit. That’s why you need a good broom.” He winked and couldn’t keep the serious face any longer and he laughed.
