Ezekiel pushed the parlor door open, finally escaping the icy October air. Fall was here, and with it came cold weather, lots of leaves, and pumpkin-flavored everything. He glanced around the area, observing the people inside. He wished he could get to know some of these people. Maybe he would, but Ezekiel was never the type to start up a conversation on his own.

He strode up to the bar and looked at the wide selection of ice cream. It didn’t take him long to decide. The man behind the counter nodded in his direction. ”Two scoops, please. One chocolate frog, one plain strawberry,” Ezekiel said. Immediately, the man got to work. Within thirty seconds, Ezekiel was taking the first few licks of his ice-cream.

Ezekiel had always loved ice-cream. Whether it was in the steam of summer or the dead of winter, ice-cream never failed to make him happy. He loved going to ice-cream parlors in the summer and getting choclate all over his face. England ice-cream tasted better than Ireland ice-cream, Ezekiel thought. Still, nothing topped the feel of Ireland’s parlors. They seemed a lot more livelier than England. He looked around the area again, watching all the people talking, laughing, and savoring. He licked at his ice-cream, watching and listening. Ice-cream is good.

Diagon Alley.

After spending time around the district for probably half the day, Lars thought he would never get bored even if he had to visut the place everyday for the whole year. The district was just fascinating, even that old pub which was the main entrance to the district was fascinating. But maybe it was because he could see people performing magic so freely. His mother, being a muggle herself, even found the place interesting even though she couldn't help but gasping in surprise everytime she saw something fly or moved by itself. She was especially amazed by the Madam Malkin's shop and had spent the last thirty minutes wandering around the very shop and discussing something with the owner -- yes, she was a fashion designer so he couldn't really blame her -- leaving the bored Lars alone to wander around by himself because he never interested in shopping or discussing about clothes.

His attention was quickly stolen by the presence of the ice cream parlour and his hungry stomach just lead him inside the shop. There were many people inside but he could spot some empty seats along the bar which meant he should order quickly before they were taken by somebody.

As soon as he arrived at the bar, the man behind the counter asked for his order but how could he spent a short time to choose all those flavours? He need more time! So, the man left him pondering over the flavours.

If he had to follow his usual preference, he would definitely go for chocolate, mocca, or pistachio but as he was in wizarding world and the moment, he should try something different, shouldn't he? And his eyes landed on the word 'butterbeer'. Okay, what was that?

So, he turned to a boy next to him who was currently eating his own ice cream. "Hey, mate. Do you know what butterbeer is?" asked him quitely because he didn't want everyone think he was dumb for not knowing that.

Ezekiel had his back leaned against the bar, observing the area while enjoying the second scoop of his ice-cream. Some people had already come and gone in a hurry, yet Ezekiel took his time, for he had nowhere else to be for the day. Homework was always an issue, though. Still, he felt like it was time for a break.

Ezekiel noticed a young boy about his age enter and sit at the barstool next to him. He payed no attention, for he assumed it was just another stranger coming and going. He began looking through the window and into the outside world. Diagon Alley always was an interesting place.

"Hey, mate. Do you know what butterbeer is?"

Ezekiel was startled at the sound of the young man taking to him. He sat up and scooted himself to face the boy. He was obviously from around England, due to his accent. Ezekiel hadn't been here for long, so he hadn't talked to many others since he left Ireland. His accent was obvious, so he wondered what would happen if he met people from different countries.

"Butterbeer?" Ezekiel had to think for a moment. He hummed a bit to kill the awkwardness while he thought of an explaination. Finally, he looked the other boy in the eye. "It's like liquid butterscotch. Ya take some butterscotch, throw it in with sugar and water, and that's pretty much it." Ezekiel glanced at the multitude of flavors inside the parlor. "Ya lookin' for a preferance?"

Lars sat there, waiting. The boy was responsive but he couldn't help but suspecting if, like him, the boy was not familiar with butterbeer either, considering the time he used to think for the answer. He glanced at the list of menu again and thought maybe he should've just ordered his usual preference for ice cream flavour. He really was considering to say 'it's fine, I'll get chocolate' but secretly thought it was a waste.

He couldn't be any happier when the boy finally gave explanation.

Apparently, the butterbeer they wrote there was probably the same with his favorite drink at home, probably with a bit of magical modification which made it worth the try. "That's very helpful. I thought it was a combination of a butter and a beer -- which sounds weird -- but thank Goodness it's not. Thanks, mate," said him, smiling at the boy who seemed to be coming from Ireland because his accent was think.

He nodded his head as he was being asked about looking for a preference. "I usually have chocolate or pistachio or mocca as my favourite flavours but I want to try something new. This butterbeer sounds interesting. I'll probably choose this one. Or do you have any suggestion, perhaps?" asked him to the boy who seemed to be coming from wizarding family or at least had spent more time in wizarding world more than himself.

"Oh, my name's Lars Anderson, by the way," added him quickly, hand was extended to the boy next to him.

Ezekiel smiled at the boy's idea of what butterbeer was. Butter and beer..... a really weird combination. Ezekiel almost laughed at the thought. Somewhere, somebody must have some butter-beer... it probably tasted quite unusual.

The boy talked about his favorite flavors, and his normal ice-cream habits. Chocolate and mocha was one of Ezekiel's favorite combonations... not a bad choice. However, the new boy wanted to try something new this time around, and butterbeer was a name that had caught his eye. He then opened up on the idea of a preference, since he was new to the place.

He introduced himself. Lars Anderson was his name. Huh, never heard of a "Lars" before. Uniqueness is always something good.

Ezekiel usually never introduced himself using his last name. However, since this boy did it, he felt like he needed to do the same. After all, respect was key in the Aspen family. "I'm Ezekiel Aspen, but you can call me Zeke if ya want to." A preferance? Hm... "Chocolate, pistachio and mostly mocha are pretty good flavors, and I think butterbeer's a good try. In fact, I'd probably recommend that flavor, since it's pretty snappy good! It's really sweet, so it goes pretty well in ice-cream. I think you should try it!"

"Zeke, then. It's easier, to be honest. Are you coming from Ireland?" asked him because the name was also sounded Irish. Lars lived in England ever since he was born but his name might not sound English, at all, as it was originally Swedish name. He had no idea why he was named that way considering his father was usually very English but then again his mother was probably the one who suggested the name. Anyway, he liked the name as it was easy to pronounce and quite unique among his peers back at his school.

"Butterbeer sounds okay, now let's see if it's as good as butterscotch. " Lars waved his hand to call the barman and ordered for two scoops of butterbeer flavour. Usually, two scoops of ice cream wasn't enough for him but he thought he could spare some space in his stomach for his all time favourite flavours. It only took a few seconds before the barman placed a bowl of butterbeer ice cream in front of him. He immediately took a spoonful into hia mouth, wincing a bit from the brain freeze. "Hmm! It's actually taste better than butterscotch. I bet there's a real drink called Butterbeer as well? Seems like I have to try it one day. Dou you want some?" asked him, offering the ice cream because it was just too good to be eaten alone.

Louisa couldn't resist going to the ice-cream parlour when she walked past it. All the beautiful and delicious looking ice-creams, she could taste them already. Her parents and brother were inside Flourish and Blots, so they wouldn't mind her buying ice-cream for herself.

She walked up to the display of ice-cream and looked at all the different flavours of ice.

"Wow," she gaped. "You have pumpkin pastry ice-cream?" Louisa said to the man behind the counter.
The man nodded, and smiled at Louisa.

"We have to get in the Halloween atmosphere now don't we. We also got Chocolate Frog ice-cream," the man said. Louisa looked from the normal chocolate, to the Chocolate Frog ice-cream.

"How's that any different then normal chocolate?" She asked softly. The man chuckled.

"Even more chocolate flavour." He said. Louisa frowned. How's she ever able to make a choice? A small conversation caught her attention. Two boys, enjoying ice-cream as well. One boy in particular, was loving his ice-cream.

"Hmm! It's actually taste better than butterscotch. I bet there's a real drink called Butterbeer as well? Seems like I have to try it one day. Do you want some?"

Louisa looked back at the display, and saw the Butterbeer ice-cream right next to the Chocolate Frog one.

"I'll take a scoop of Pumpkin Pastry, Chocolate Frog and Butterbeer, please." Louisa couldn't possibly make a choice between those three flavours. Within a minute, she had paid for her ice-cream, and took a seat not far away from the two boys. One of the boys looked at her and smiled, and she couldn't help but smile back, silently thanking his enthusiasm for the choice of Butterbeer ice-cream, because it was absolutely delicious.

"Yea, I'm from Ireland. Ye can probably tell by me hair and accent." Ezekiel ran his hand through his red mess of curls. "I come from a wee lil' town called Kilkee, way out on the West Coast." Ezekiel noticed his accent had become thicker. Why does this happen every single time I talk about home? He was homesick...

Ezekiel watched as Lars ordered two scoops of Butterbeer ice-cream. He took a few licks of his own, once he noticed he had been talking to much and the ice-cream had been melting from the cone. Lars seemed to really like Butterbeer, and he offered some for Ezekiel to try. "Do you want some?" He pushes the bowl in Ezekiel's direction.

Ezekiel held up his own cone of ice-cream. "Thanks a lot for the offer, but I've got my own ice-cream to enjoy. Plus, I can't believe someone would want to share something so good. You should enjoy it all yeself! Cheers?" Ezekiel held his cone out for a "clink of glasses."

Ezekiel wondered if this could be the start of his first friendship here. He had prayed that he would have met someone on the train, but no such luck. Bummer. Hope sparked once Lars began talking to him.
