The Reunion of Friends
Isabella’s year at school had been the best of her life. She loved being at Hogwarts, and couldn’t wait to start her second year. The rises and falls of the year had been truly life changing for her, and she had met so many amazing people over the eleven she had been there. But, as most good things do, even being at Hogwarts had its downfalls. She missed her family, and all her friends that were either too young to attend or didn’t have a drop of magic running through their veins.
And now, she was seated in front of the ice cream shop in Diagon Alley - waiting for the friend she had missed the most during the school year. Lucky for her however, that same friend would be in attendance at school next year for her first year - so she wouldn’t have to wait another year to see her.
She had so much to tell her friend. The events of the school year still left shivers running up her spine whenever she thought about it. The gaining and loss of her prefect status, the burning of the common room, and the man. The masked man that had terrorised Hogwarts over the duration of her first year. What had professor Blackburn said at the ending ceremony? The staff and the ministry were dealing with it. But even then, she was still sceptical about returning to the school if there was still a dangerous person on the loose.
The sun warmed her shoulders and a cool breeze rippled her long hair as she sat as one at a table meant for two. She had arrived fairly early, as she was just so excited to see her after a year of missing her.
“Can I take your order miss?” Turning around at the sound of a voice, she saw a friendly looking waitress standing behind her - a notepad poised and ready to take her order.
“Can I have five more minutes please? I’m sorry, I’m waiting for a friend.” Her face was home to an apologetic smile as she spoke. With a small nod, the waitress retreated back inside the ice cream shop.
Spotting a familiar red head, the brunette stood up - calling out to her as she did. “Mary! Over here! I’ve already got us a table!”
A smile spread across her face as she recognised her friend. It had been way too long since she had last seen her, and she hoped the closeness of their relationship was still there after a year of no contact.

The Reunion of Friends
It had been a year since the murder of Marianne's father*, and the only person who would make her go to the diagonal alley for a walk was Bella, her best childhood friend. The summer heat was fading away, and the cool breeze made many people start wearing coats and scarves. The little redhead wore a black and yellow scarf that belonged to her father, and now she was also carrying the silver necklace of the family around her neck. The innocent and apologetic expressions of a year ago no longer existed and gave way to a more reserved and serene personality.
That last year was solitary and uninterrupted mourning. She spent most of it alone at home with only the family's house elf and occasional visits from her extremely busy mother with her Quidditch team. The older brother and best friend were already at Hogwarts and loneliness was not something that bothered her. Of course the redhead did not bother to show her feelings and probably would act with violence from anyone who tried to fathom them. Before going to the ice cream shop she had to go to the bank to get some galleons and the way to there was very dramatic. It was stifling to retrace the steps of such a traumatic memory.
But it all came out of that somber cloud when she saw Bella waving and calling. The little girl ran through some of the people along the way, took a few steps through the entrance of the place and seeing that her friend was still standing, she threw herself into her arms for a tight hug.
She could not measure how much she missed her. Only now did she realize how important that friendship was. "I'm so glad to see you again, I heard you went to Slytherin!" Then Marianne finally let go and gave her a big smile. "There must be so many new things! I want to hear them all! Until then, I have galleons enough for us to eat as much ice cream as we want!" The redhead was not showing off and just wanted to say that they could stay at ease for several hours like it used to be.

I apologize for the delay in answering you, Bella. I promised a response on the weekend and I could not keep it! >< Do not be in a hurry to answer back, okay? I get it.
* Over the weekend as I set out her story in more detail, I chose to murder her father a year before she attend to Hogwarts and not when she was seven. I thought that would be more dramatic this way.

The Reunion of Friends

“Yea, I did go into Slytherin. And you better too. I couldn’t handle you being in a seperate house from me. I have so much to tell you, a lot has happened. You’re going to absolutely love it at Hogwarts.” Isabella knew, of course, about her oldest friends father. And she could only imagine the pain the younger girl would be going through right now. While a lot of people took for granted the way they could walk around the wizarding alley happy as a lark, she knew that it wouldn’t be such a was for Mary. She was smart enough to know to steer clear of any family talk, not wanting to trigger any bad memories for the other girl.
Isabella knew the pain Mary must be going through, even a year after the accident. Her own father had left when she was younger to fight in a war he had not started, his return coming in a letter that she had never been allowed to read. She still hurt thinking about him, even five years after. Every thought about him was like a stab to the heart - and if Mary had loved her father as much as she had, like she knew she did, then she knew at least some of what she was going through.
“School is so much fun! I honestly don’t even know where to start. So much has happened this year. I burnt the common room in May. And then I became a prefect in June, or was it July? Well it was at some point. But then I wasn’t one a month later. And don’t even get me started on Summer Camp. I met a boy there, and he’s a complete flobberworm. I think his names Parasite - he made a girl cry, and scared another girl out of the cabin as well so I don’t like him. I don’t like his friend either cos he has ugly hair. And one of the professors has a pet spider called Denise and she’s awesome, you’re gonna love her next year.” Her constant rambling was a rarity - something that only happened with people she was really close with. That was one of the signs of the strength of her friendship with Mary.
At some point between the ages 8 and 9, she had completely forgotten about the fact that the pair weren’t family. She often referred to the younger as family, once or twice even her sister. Of course, she didn’t tell Mary this. There was only so much you could tell even the closest of people. Maybe at some point in the future, she would tell Mary about her status in her heart. But she didn’t see that moment anytime soon. Isabella was never really one for sappy moments.
“How have you been anyway? The free world must be so boring without me there to lead you into any mischief.” A teasing note played on her words, and a small smile made itself at home on her face as she spoke.
