Homework Blues Closed

As usual, the library was quiet. There weren’t that many students around Leo, which made his anxiety worse. He was sitting at one of the tables on his own, parchment covering the table. With his quill in hand, Leo felt like he was drowning in homework. It hadn’t helped that he was absent for quite some time. His father had been in hospital for those few months over Christmas. No one seemed to really notice; not according to Leo anyway. He hadn’t made many friends, except for a Slytherin boy in the library when he first started at Hogwarts. But even he’d been preoccupied.

Leo felt lost in a sea of homework. He needed to catch up on months worth of work in only a short amount of time. Homework and the Potter trial were becoming too much for Leo. Placing his quill down, Leo rubbed his eyes, leaning back in his seat. He felt stiff, having been in the chair for a couple of hours now. Maybe walk around he thought to himself, pushing his chair back. Leo stood up from his chair, a series of cracking noises followed as he did. He stretched his arms out and let out a soft yawn before stepping away from his chair. He took a few steps away from his table before walking back to it.

After a nice stretch, Leo sat in his chair again and frowned. He’d almost forgotten about the mountain of homework in front of him. Letting his head fall and land on the table with a thud, Leo closed his eyes, listening to the silence that filled the library. There was the occasional footsteps towards the shelves and the scuffing of chairs being moved around. Maybe he could rest his eyes without anyone noticing. He was on his own in this part of the library. But you have homework said the tiny voice in the back of Leo’s head. It’s what dad would wand you to focus on the voice said again.

Determined to try and get some work done, Leo lifted his head off the table, seized his quill and began to work on his Astronomy homework. It seemed the little voice in Leo’s head helped kickstart the motivation he needed to start on his homework. He would finish his homework, get good grades and make his father proud. Leo picked up a spare piece of parchment and began to scribble on it. He was making a list of all the homework he needed to complete before the year was through. It seemed the spare bit of parchment wasn't enough. Leo sighed and seized a roll of parchment and began to write out his list once more. Once he'd finished, he tore the list off of the scroll and placed it in front of him, smoothing it out. Looking at the list, Leo's eyes widened, in pure shock. His head hit the table with a thud once more, having given up almost immediately.

Jackson slipped into the library at last, breathing a sigh of relief. After an hour of wondering around the blasted castle, he’d found it at last! There was a special place in hell for the architects who’d designed this place, and personally, he hoped they weren’t enjoying their stay. His eyes scanned the humongous room, failing to be taken back by the floor to celling bookshelves. To him, they were just musty old books which were probably covered in dust and collecting years worth of nerd vibes.

His shoulder hurt from having carried the heavy messenger bag Anthony had given him. He’d stuffed it full of notebooks and drawing supplies, since his classes hadn’t started yet. Apparently, he was supposed to get to know the school a little bit beforehand. Which was all cool with him. The more time he spent not studying creepy snake parts, the better. Plus, he has time to perfect his tag. He was planning to have marked at least half the school before the year was over. And the nearby town as well. There was a reason he’d brought all those cans of spray paint…

Much to his surprise, almost none of the tables in the library were being used, and the one which were, contained random people, all muttering to each other in low voices, as if there was an ogre behind them, just waiting to smack them if they made even the slightest noise. In the midst of it all came a tired groan and a loud thump as someone’s head hit the table. He snapped around to see a boy around his age with pale skin, dark blue eyes and light brown hair, practically buried in the pile of homework he still had to finish.

Slowly, he made his way to the student, setting an arm on his shoulder, concern clouding his gaze. “You good, bro?” He demanded. “I know first aid…sort off. Well, I’ve watched people being given first aid, so if you’re sick or something, I gotcha.” Before the guy could shoo him away, he gingerly picked up one of the books he was groaning about and flipped it open, grimacing in disgust. “Uh…this stuff is hard,” he said sympathetically. “I’m so sorry you’re stuck with this crap.”

Coming from a Ravenclaw, the words should have been rather strange, but the fact Jax didn’t exactly fit in with his house wasn’t a well kept secret. The only way he could actually get into the common room was if someone else helped him with the riddle, for Satan’s sake! “You look kinda done with life. You wanna walk around with me? Screw the homework, it’s not worth doing if it gets you this worked up. Mental health before school, that’s what Anthony always says. Come on, dude. And if you get yelled at, at least you can say you did something fun and it was worth it. What do ya say?”

Having her homework completed gave Vivi a sense of comfort, so it was no surprise that she had finished hers for the day. That isn't saying that it was not a feat itself to complete it, however. Her brain was exhausted and she, too, felt like she had hit her max for the day. In response to these feelings, Vivi had decided to roam the Hogwarts grounds in search of somewhere to explore or a friend to make.

Maybe it was her Ravenclaw intuition, or maybe it was her general love for knowledge and discovery, but she made her very first stop the Library and quickly found herself making her way through the halls of the castle. She felt deep down that she was sure to run into someone or at least find a good book there.

Upon entering the large, book-filled room, she was greeted with the smell of paper. It made her do a small little jig as she danced over to a bookshelf, using the power of chance to find a good section to start at. She found herself browsing the spines of several books regarding magical buildings and architecture. Well, I mean, that's interesting. Unhappy with what was in that section, Vivi made her way further down the shelf , and spotted the two other students at the table as she approached the end. For a moment, she stood back around the corner and listened to them speak. She heard the dark hair boy mention a walk, and leaned slightly around the corner to get a better look at who they were. A walk could be exactly the answer to her needs! Maybe she'd make friends with these guys and also find some shenanigans to get into as well.

Upon doing so, she stumbled into the open. Looking towards the table, she smiled sheepishly. "Uh- oh, Hi... I'd like to go to, if you don't mind. " she stammered. Unfortunately, they had already seen her make a fool of herself just now, so she might as well just come out with it. She kept looking between their faces. She wasn't even sure if the other boy had gotten a chance to respond. She looked down to avoid their gaze, feeling embarrassed. She hadn't seen the events that had led up to this moment, and was feeling more embarrassed by the second, realizing that she probably had intruded at a really weird time.

Leo sighed, the warmth from his breath hitting him in the nose. Lucky he could only smell juice from lunch. Everything seemed so far at this point. It was as if he were running a marathon but the finish line was growing further away. The closer he thought he was, the further away it would move. All the stress was getting to him and he let out a small noise. He wasn't sure what kind of noise it was, but it managed to come out of his mouth.

He felt some warmth from his shoulder and slowly lifted his head up to find a boy, around his age, standing beside him with a sad look in his eyes. Leo sat up straight, a little shocked at the boy's kind gesture. He couldn't help but give him a small smile. "I'm just a little overwhelmed with homework." He told the boy, scratching the back of his head lightly. "I've been away and have all of this to catch up on." He gestured to the mountain of parchment sprawled across the table. When the boy apologised to dealing with such stress, Leo laughed softly. "Hey, it's cool. It's something I can't help."

Leo liked the boy. He was kind and warm to him, despite not knowing him. It gave Leo a fuzzy feeling inside. He'd spent the first month of school trying to meet new people and make friends. Being an only child only made him crave friends more. He hadn't stopped smiling since the boy came to his aid.

When the boy suggested a walk, Leo nodded. "A walk would be good. I don't want to leave the library though. If I leave, I won't get any work done." He said, looking up at the boy and giving him a sad smile. It was true. Leo would lose all motivation (even if it was small) and would leave his homework for longer. There was nothing wrong with taking a small break to clear the mind. It would probably help him. Maybe I'll make a new friend, he thought to himself.

Hearing movement behind them, Leo turned in his chair to see a girl, about their age, hiding behind one of the shelves. She was a bright girl, especially with her long blonde hair. Leo smiled warmly towards her and stood up from his chair. The girl wanted to join in on their walk around the library. The more the merrier, he thought to himself, putting his hands in his trouser pockets. "You can come with us!" Leo smiled, taking a step towards her. "We're going to walk around the library." He looked at the two students in front of him. In the midst of all the chatter, he'd forgotten to introduce himself. Bring his hand to his forehead with a smack, he laughed nervously. "I haven't introduced myself. I'm Leo. Nice to meet you both." He smiled, rubbing where he smacked his head.

The library wasn't all that busy when the Gryffindor slipped inside, but it was busy enough; he could hear the shuffle of feet and soft rustle of parchment being scratched on as he took a moment to glance around. He didn't recognize anyone, which he supposed was actually a good thing; it was't like he was here searching for friends; quite the opposite, really.

Bastille liked to believe that by choosing one of his most frequent hiding places to, well, hide was actually clever — after all, who would expect him in such an obvious location? Besides, it wasn't as if the bloke chosen as Seeker knew him all that well (or at all) and could know to look for Bast here. In reality, it was a less of a strategic choice and more of simple laziness: he had only signed up to play this game because Hazel and Eve had, and had no real investment in actually winning. He was quite fine with just saying he participated, really, since the majority of his mates would likely give him shite for not playing.

So, as he looked around the library and thought it might be a tad obvious, he also didn't care. Instead he let his pale stare land on the nearest bunch of First Years, vague curiosity arising at the sight of a few flashes of red. Fellow lions? He supposed it couldn't hurt, pretending to blend in by striking up a conversation, and so a moment later he was headed towards the group.

"Hey," he greeted mildly, processing faces and trying to see if he could place any names. Not at all, as it would turn out, but that was fine; he was fine with some forced interaction for the time being. He rocked back on his heels and added, "'m Bast, by the way. I'm in Gryffindor, too." He wasn't wearing his robes at the moment, the red tie that would give him away absent. "Are you, ah, looking for anything in particular on your walk?"

He did spend a lot of time in there, after all; might as well be helpful if they were searching for something.

Alan as per his usual routine after a day of classes was to walk towards the Library. The Library is one of few places that didn't have that many people lingering around with the added fact that it was mostly a quiet place to think. Having fallen a little behind on his homework, Alan was especially enthused to move into the Library for study, slipping past a few students along the way he entered gazing over the sea of shelves that stood before him. Alan let out a calm sigh of relief having to deal with weaving through crowds the young lad moved to find a place to sit the little voice in his head spoke "Nice work Alan you managed to get here without little to no interaction...you really need to work on that Al talking to people isn't a bad thing now." Alan muttered to himself "I know brain one thing at a time, first homework then bettering myself."

As he was wandering through looking for a table to sit the young lad heard a loud thud which caught his attention seeing the poor Gryffindor Leo. Looking entirely defeated, having been through that scenario before Alan let out a sigh as the urge to check up him was nagging him at the back of his head knowing full well he can't study until the thought process was resolved. Seeing as a couple of students approached him a fellow Ravenclaw he had not recognised before, his urge to leave was stopped by the voice in his head "Al you're going you are literally three steps away just say hello and ask if he's ok." Seeing more students approached the defeated Leo he said: "Hi I couldn't help but notice you were distracted...oh you're g-g-going f-f-for a walk". Alans early confidence divulged into stutters as he asked the group looking from Bastille, Vivi and Jackson as well as Leo. "I was going to ask if you w-w-wanted to study together as y-y-you s-s-seemed stumped." Shaking his head, he quickly blurted out "I-I'm Al-Alan b-by the way heh." It was clear Alan didn't do to well with groups, but in the back of his mind he was pushing himself to hopefully make new friends out of this "Great work Alan...didn't expect this many to show up now...don't run this isn't like that hallway incident."

Jackson's eyes widened as more and more people started to crowd around poor Leo's table. "Wow," he laughed. "I guess we'll make it a party." In all honesty, he was a bit taken back. He'd expected it to be just him and Leo, but...the bigger the better? Also, were there no other houses in the library? So far, everyone in their little group was either a Ravenclaw or a Griffindor. "I guess great minds think alike, eh?" Before it could all get awkward, Jax opened his arms in a welcoming sort of gesture, putting on his 'I'm totally not overwhelmed by the huge size of this group!' smile. "Okay, well, before we all go anywhere. Hi! I'm Jax. Also, Leo, man, that's a dope name. Sup, Bast. Nice hoodie. Alan, I swear to Satan, you have the coolest voice. You should be on the radio!" All that being said, he turned to the girl who had yet to introduce herself, admiring her gorgeous blond hair silently. "Heya! I've seen you around the dorm, but I never caught your name!"

The inside of Jax's head was weird. At the current moment, he was very near to having a panic attack. He'd learned to recognize them as they came, and over the years learned to notice the familiar shortness of breath, spike in his heart rate, trembling of his hands and sudden drop in his will to live. Sure, he was smiling brilliantly on the outside, grey-blue eyes shining with laughter. But he'd gone from making conversation with one person to four in a matter of minutes. And if anyone knew anything about him, it was that he didn't do well in huge crowds. Talking to more than one person at once tired him out, let alone four. Still, he smiled, hands going reflexively in his pocket and pulling out one of his fidget cubes. “Okay, you guys. It took me an hour to find my way here, so I’m assuming ya’ll have a better sense of direction then me. Where too?”

Books weren't becoming his friend, but he was finding it easier and easier to pick one up as his years at Hogwarts passed. He was going to be a fourth year soon, so he needed to step his game up - academically speaking. Quidditch seemed fine, but he knew he could risk his position on the team if he didn't keep up his studies.

Today, he was just doing some light reading though that warranted him to read on the only topic that's been on his mind. Naturally, he hung out in the same place Dymphna would sometimes tutor him at, but he hadn't been able to see her recently. A lot of his time here was spent alone and in silence, except for today it seemed. The voices weren't noticeable at first, but they seemed to pick up as time passed and more people seemed to gather.

He took his readers off and hung them off the collar of his zip up jacket. Reid looked over his shoulder, pinpointing the sound from a different table from just one shelf over. He chose to ignore it at first, he wasn't as picky about noisy libraries as the others were. "Heya! I've seen you around the dorm, but I never caught your name!" That sounded particularly loud. But it did get to the point of where he didn't want the librarian to get upset.

The student got up and tucked a book under his arm, it was a book titled 'The Beaters' Bible'. He slipped his pen into his jeans and quickly tied the shoelace of his running shoe before getting up to meet the group. Reid noticed they seemed to be students not of his age, so he thought of it rather carefully. "Dun' mean to interrupt you lot, but could you keep it down a little? It's pickin' up an' I'm startin' to hear it from over there." He jutted his thumb from where he was.

"Trouble usually finds me."

Opeila had gone to the library to bring a few books back. She had spent hours on her schoolwork and was now finally done with it. No need to carry this unnecessary extraweight around. The huge room didn't even really impress her anymore, since she had spent a great amount of her time here. It was just peaceful and quiet, at least when there wasn't a bunch of students having a meeting. The Slytherin shook her head. Like there wasn't a better place for things like that. Opeila could also see some Ravenclaws in the group- she would at least have expected them to be somehow responsible and not annoy the studying people. There were not a lot of people in the library, but there for example was a Gryffindor boy who looked like a year five student.
Opeila herself was a little scared of the O.W.L. exams, although there were three more years to come before. But she would be highly annoyed if some first years then would use the place for chatting with their friends.

Opeila put her books back into their shelves. They were all sorts of books, some about herbology, charms, defense against the dark arts, trsnsfiguration... She only still avoided the potions section.
Her last book belonged to the shelf on the other side of the group. The Slytherin walked over to put it back. She'd probably go to lunch afterwards.
When she tried to put the book back, she felt something like a barrier that stopped her. She sighed annoyed. Why on earth couldn't people just put their books back properly? On the other side they were probably just thrown into the shelf somehow and now stopping her from putting the book back. The little girl could only just reach the place where the book had to go and she wasn't going to climb on a table to sort out other peoples mess. She just pushed harder and the book finally fit into the shelf, but on the same time she heard at least two or three books falling out on the other side, where the group of students was standing right now. Crap.

Opeila quickly walked around the shelf, hoping that she hadn't accidently hit anyone with a book. There were quite thick, heavy books here and it fell from quite high...
"I-I'm sorry. I couldn't get the book into the shelf, so I pushed and... right. Sorry."

Thankful that nobody seemed to notice her rather awkward entrance, Vivi ran her fingers through the front of her long, curly blonde hair. Relief swept over her body. She felt around her wrist, where she had usually kept her hair tie. If they were to walk around the area, she would want her hair to be up in a bun or something. Upon finding she had forgotten it, she lowered both arms to her sides and frowned ever so softly for a moment. Within a few seconds, a small smile had already crept its way back onto her face. A little hair in her face wouldn't be the end of a good time.

Vivi was actually content with the growing size of the small troop. She really only had one close friend, and was more than interested in growing that amount. But what if they don't like me? She offered each of the newcomers a warm smile as they introduced themselves.

To each she did the same. Vivi extended her hand and nodded in greeting. "My name is Vivi."she greeted, her thick accent showing a little more now that she was speaking more confidently. "It's a pleasure to meet you." In truth, she really didn't know how this would go. Group activities were not really her forte. She was much more versed in one on one interactions, or even doing things solo. However much practice she had in this though, it is not what she wanted for herself.

Just at that time, she heard a loud thud directly behind her. Vivi whipped around, startled. Her fingernails dug deep into her hands as her anxiety won her over for a moment. However, like most of her other emotions, it was sure to pass soon. She studied the girl who had been standing by the bookshelf. Deciding to be the first one to respond to her, she took a few steps in Opeila's direction. Her voice was low as she spoke, this was a library after all. "That's quite all right," she mused "I obviously wasn't meant to be standing there." She bent down to pick up the fallen book and offered it to the girl. "You dropped this." she said with an amused smile as she extended her arm.
