Searching for the Right Book
Gabby ran her hand along a row of spines in the Hogwarts library, liking the feel of old leather and stamped-down letters. Before she'd been accepted into the school of magic, books had been plastic, shiny covers with bright colours and striking patterns, and she'd never been a fan of them. At school, English was a struggle, and Gabby could never focus on one particular book. Her attention would drift away from the black and white page to something else, a bird flying past the window, a song stuck in her head, or the sounds of chatter from another classroom.
But Gabby found that this library was different. The worn-down leather covers, yellowing pages and dust coverings told her that it was old, and she liked how the wooden shelves were etched with mysterious patterns and swirls. Even the books managed to interest her, they spoke of interesting subjects like bewitchment and age-old curses.
The reason Gabby was in the library was because of something else, though. She was trying to find a book on the topic of phoenixes. While her siblings were magical, Gabby's parents were muggles, so she had grown up on thinking that a phoenix was some mythical, legendary figure. Discovering that the majestical, powerful creature actually did exist fascinated her, and Gabby had gone to the library in hope of finding answers.
But, now that she was here in the library, Gabby was finding it hard to find a book about the creature. The library was huge, and slightly confusing. She scrunched up dark brown eyes in concentration as she scanned the shelves, but to no luck. The librarian was an option, but Gabby had always been cautious and quiet around adults, never fully trusting them, so she had decided to look for it herself. Yet, try as she might, she still couldn't find it.

Searching for the Right Book
Walking around, Saoirse dragged her finger across the different books. Some large, some small, some with red others green or white. She stopped when she found an interesting book, it was a thick, yellow-paged book on the History of Wizards and Magic of All Types. It was a very, very big book and Saoirse could just but it and Flourish and Blotts but it couldn't take her that wrong to read it. Without further hesitation she grasped her hands around the greenish book and slid out. Picking up the other books she had found and began towards the Librarian's desk before stopping at a section.
There was a girl, with deeply tanned skin and dark, curly hair digging through different rows of books. What was she so desperate to find? Why wasn't she going to the Librarian? Saoirse just watched her before puffing up her chest, putting on a smile and started a path towards the girl. Stopping for a second, hesitating. What if the girl just turned around and pushed her away? It wouldn't be worth it to make a trip down to that section just for her to be turned away. Why was she even doing this? Oh well, before she knew it, Saoirse almost slammed into the girl. "Hey, do you want some help?"

[quote]"Hey, do you want some help?"
Gabby turned around to find a girl standing next to her. She was pretty, with long, red hair and striking blue eyes, and held a green book in her hand. Silver earrings sparkled when they caught the light, her skin was fair, dusted with freckles, and she looked kind enough, perhaps a First Year, like Gabby. Despite this, she was reluctant to accept the girl's offer for help. She didn't want to look like a stupid idiot in front of her, nor did she want to be embarrassed by her own lack of knowledge. What if she laughed?
But, pulling herself together, Gabby realized she shouldn't worry about such things. It was just a question, and surely she wasn't the only First Year unable to find a book in the imposing large library. And did she really have another option? She was still too untrusting to ask the librarian for help, and it wasn't like another student was going to come up and ask for help. This girl seemed nice, and willing to help, and Gabby realized she should take the opportunity while it was there.
"Yes, thanks," she said, "do you know where I could find books on phoenixes? I've been looking for ages, but I can't find them."

"Yes, thanks, do you know where I could find books on phoenixes? I've been looking for ages, but I can't find them." Saoirse nodded, and ushered for the girl to follow her. Taking her across the library and up right, going across rows and shelves of old, dusty books before coming upon one section where Saoirse began trailing her finger across rows of books with worn covers coated with dust. Yellowed-pages with melting ink slowly bleeding into the wood letting out musty scents, Saoirse felt at home here in the library where no area was left untouched by polished gold plating, aging wood, and old books.
She came a curt stop, pulling out a slim, red book and looking at the cover. It was covered with little speckles of gold, 'The Rescue for Creatures of Magic's guide on Phoenixes'. She slid out another book, this time it was neatly decorated with faux phoenix feathers. 'Feathers of Birds: Phoenixes for Starters. Both good fits for what she may be looking for, stacking them atop each-other she handed them to the girl. Now in the light she could see the full extent of her features. Large, black eyes stood atop a rounded face, complimenting her neatly done, dark brown, curly hair tied up into an almost ponytail. One thing to note was her green and silver tie and Slytherin robe. It didn't bother Saoirse though as the girl was nice enough.
On the way to the desk to checkout, Saoirse decided to speak once again. "What's your name?"

[quote]The girl signaled for Gabby to follow her, and she did so obediently. She then stopped, and pulled out two books, a slim one with a red cover, and another covered in actual phoenix feathers, which looked pretty with it's red and yellow patterns. Gabby tucked them underneath the crook of her left arm tightly, to make sure they were secure and wouldn't slip out, and together they walked over to the counter to check the books out, weaving their way through the maze of wooden shelves, students, and study desks.
"What's your name?" the girl asked, as they walked.
"My actual name is Gabriela," she told her. "But only adults call me that. Everyone else calls me Gabby."
Gabby placed the two books on the counter of the bench, going up on her tippy-toes to reach it. She was short for her age, something she absolutley despised about herself. As they waited for the books to be checked out, she turned around to face her helper.
"Thank you for helping me," she said. "That was... really nice of you. And you found the book really fast too - that was impressive. Do you come here often, is that why you found it so fast? Or are you good at that sort of thing?"
"And, what's your name?" she said after a slight pause, realizing she still didn't know what the red-haired girl's name was.

Saoirse shrugged, "both, I've love spending time here and I've always been good at finding things, which I'm thankful for considering how often I lose them. Oh! And my name is Saoirse." She responded, "it's nice to meet you, Gabby I love your name." She felt sorry for the girl, who was struggling to place the books on the counter, Gabby was only three to four inches smaller than Saoirse and some how it showed, a lot. "Your welcome," Saoirse muttered, trying to close up all Gabby had said.
Placing her books on the counter she stood next to the girl, beginning to wonder once again why she didn't call for the librarian's help. Maybe Gabby was just shy, well it did give her a reason to avoid asking even an assistant for help. But that was still ever so slightly shocking to Saoirse, the library elf's were some of the nicest ones around or who knows, maybe she should stop spending some much time in the library. Grabbing her books, Saoirse began walking towards a table before turning around for a second to face, Gabby "hey, do you want to come sit with me?" Saoirse asked enthusiastically, "if not I guess I'll see around, Gabby." With that she turned around and continued on her path.

Her name was Saoirse, a pretty name. Gabby imagined it as the name of a flower, or something like that. She had never heard the name before, but it sounded Irish, or maybe Scottish, she couldn't tell. Gabby mentally set herself a reminder to ask the girl about her name later, when she knew her better. As she did that, Gabby realized with a jolt that she actually did want to be the girl's friend. She liked how the girl had asked her, straight-up but kind, if she needed assistance.
"Hey, do you want to come sit with me? If not I guess I'll see around, Gabby."
"No, no!" said Gabby, perhaps too quickly as Saoirse began to walk away. "Sitting down sounds great."
She scanned the room, looking for a place to sit. In the corner, she spotted a circle of comfy-looking couches, dark red and set next to little tables that lit up the area with candles that sat on top. She started to head over to the area, twisting her neck around to talk to Saoirse.
"We should go sit over here, see the red couches and candles?" she told her, ushering the girl over with her hands. Then, turning back around, she headed over and sat down on the closest chair. sinking into the thick padding.
"Wow," she grinned, half laughing as she turned back around to Saoirse. "These couches are really big. Have a go, it's like your sitting in clouds."

Saoirse trailed behind Gabby, towards the red couches. She had sat there before but she had been alone when she did.
Taking a moment to breath, Saoirse looked up and down noticing the fact that she wasn't even to the next chapter yet. Something that was...different.
Gabby just kind of fell onto the couch, so Saoirse followed shortly after. Lightly sinking into the crimson padding, chuckling she looked over at Gabby, "yeah, they're meant to be that way." Saoirse curled herself up and pulled out the book she had picked up earlier, flipping through it's contents before flying back to the beginning and started reading. Without even looking up she spoke once again, "you're a first year Slytherin, right?" Saoirse thought it was safe to assume, because of the girl's actions, they were almost the same as Saoirse's. Kinda clueless, a little befuddled, and stuttery...Stuttery? Is that even a word? No, it isn't but oh well. "Also, what's your interest in phoenixes if you don't mind? I think they're quite pretty and have an interesting background, especially because of the ability to disintegrate and start over as a new bird, a real spring chicken if you will.""These couches are really big. Have a go, it's like your sitting in clouds."

Gabby laughed lightly when the girl fell down into the depths of the old, dark red couches, sitting down next beside her. She shouldn't find it funny, but she guessed that the suddenness of it all had surprised her. It felt weird, laughing about something so stupid, but also good.
"Yeah, I'm in Slytherin. You're Gryffindor, right?" said Gabby, guessing by the red and gold tie that lay underneath Saoirse's robes. She wasn't very surprised though, the girl's kindness, but bluntness, had made her seem like a good match for the Gryffindor house. When Saoirse picked up a book and started reading, Gabby did the same as well. She chose the one with the feathered cover - purely because it looked more interesting.
"I like phoenixes because... they're big, and powerful. I mean -" she hesitated, not wanting to sound over aggressive, "I dunno, I guess their strength, and their abilities, and even their beauty, it's pretty amazing to me. And before my brother and sister went to Hogwarts, I didn't know about magic, so I didn't know they existed. Now, I'm trying to learn more about them."
"So, what are you reading about?" she asked, looking over to the book the girl was reading, which lay wide open in her lap as Saoirse read it.

Saoirse nodded, "I didn't have much magic influence after I was three, my mother passed and she was the only witch I knew. Until I got here at least." Readjusting herself to fold her legs Saoirse smiled at the question,
"The History of Wizards and Magic of All Types." Saoirse continued to follow through the pages, trying to intake each word as much as she could, "also, I'm a Hufflepuff," she said. "But Gryffindor was kinda what I was hoping to get, because it seemed so dear to my father. It's the house my mother was in." Smiling, Saoirse looked up at Gabby for a second before she continued to read. "What are you doing for the weekend, after classes?" Saoirse nearly tripped over her word, but somehow she managed to remain as calm as could be, "I'm thinking about going to the Leaky Cauldron and renting a room, it's nice to do homework there when you can, and they have really good concessions." Thinking hard for a second the red-head decided to make a firm stand in this beginning of a friendship, "maybe you could join me. It would give you time to read your books, if you haven't finished them otherwise you could just come along to hang out and do homework. It is really homey there. ""So, what are you reading about?"
