The Unexpected Incident  Private   Closed

(Serena Towers & Horace Vargas)

Hell must have frozen over recently. For some strange reason, Serena was spending time in a place that she never imagined she would go to... the Library. It was a very weird concept for her - reading outside of class, that is. In fact, she barely managed to do any of her homework, let alone extra classes. It was very unexpected of her to be in a place like this...

Today was definitely a strange day indeed. Earlier, the young Hufflepuff had some free time and so, decided to explore the Fourth Floor - which was one she hadn't really covered before. It was outside of her Prefect duties and since she had no need to come to this floor, it was one she usually skipped. Whilst wondering around, she came across a door that led into the library. Without a second's hesitation, Serena turned on her heel, shutting the door behind her as she walked away from the library. She had gotten about five metres away from the door before she slowed down, coming to a halt. Sighing softly, she shook her head to herself. There was something on her mind. Something she knew she should know. Or at least make an effort to find out... She did need to know this and the library was perhaps a good starting point... And whilst studying wasn't the first thing that came to mind, she really wanted to learn these spells that she was looking for. The girl sighed, turned around again and entered into the library.

She gazed around the room. It was huge. Far bigger than she expected. It was also... kind of pretty. There were rows of gigantic shelves, a decorative ceiling that seemed to go on forever and countless books. Whilst Serena didn't like reading, she did enjoy stationery. And some of the books had the most beautiful spines - vintage looking, foiled, embossed... you name it, it was there. It took her a while to figure out where she wanted to go but she eventually managed to find the aisle she needed. Serena was actually looking to find out more about Healing Magic. She had no idea what spells she needed to know or if she could even attempt them - perhaps they were far too advance for her. However, she really needed to know... Too many of her friends seemed to be getting hurt and she really hated her inability to do anything for them.

Serena sighed as she gazed down the aisle. There were far too many books... how would she know where to start? She seemed to be in the right section, at the very least. You'd find various Charms here, including Healing Magic. Hopefully things for beginners - otherwise she was definitely not going to have any luck. A part of her was memorised by the whole thing.

How was she going to find what she needed in this library...?

Horace wasn't wandering around today as he usually did instead he decided to go straight to his favorite spot in the whole castle 'The Library'. He almost got giddy about the huge amount of books this library held. He sure did also have a library at his Manor and sure it was big but even then it seemed tiny compared to this library.

When Horace was happy he just changed all together. In the library he wasn't shy and introvert but he actually reached out to others and helped them get their books. He marched down the aisles as if he owned the library. He took great care of the books as if they were his own. And you know all the ravenclaw stuff.

Horace was walking down aisles thinking about what book is he gonna read today. He had a huge smile on his face as he usually was very happy when he was in the library. As he was walking along he noticed a hufflepuff ,as he recognized her, was looking for books. Horace let out a soft chuckle as Hufflepuff were not known to be studious in any way. He walked to the girl "Looking for some books are you? well maybe i can help!" He said with a grin.

Serena was mesmerised by the amount of books this library contained. She had never seen a library so big. The aisle she was looking down right now probably contained more books than the local book store back home did. And she lived in the big city of London, where there were some big book stores. It was certainly saying something! Her widened eyes stared down the aisles... Where would she even start? Should she go through each row, one by one? Surely that would take... well, forever

A sudden thought occurred to her. What if the books she needed where right at the top rows of the shelves? They were enormous. She could barely reach the fourth shelf, let alone one of the the ones above it... Oh wait, they could use magic - perhaps she could 'Accio' the book if she knew which one she needed. Serena sometimes forgot she could actually use magic. She was a pure-blood and all but she was very different to her family. She didn't rely on magic, even though she thought it was incredibly useful.

She was so lost in thought that she didn't realise someone had approached. Hearing the familiar voice break the silence of the library, Serena jumped slightly and turned on her heels quickly. "Oh-" She started, her eyes widening as she recognised the boy. It took her a few seconds to realise who it was. The boy was someone she had met through her family. Her parents and his knew each other. The... Vargo family, was it? No wait- Vargus... Vargas? Something like that...

Now... uhh, what was his name... H... something- "You..." Serena said, which may have sounded slightly impolitely but she was very shocked at the moment. She didn't expect to meet him right now. She just wanted to find some books. Now she was going to have to be polite to some random boy that her family knows? Oh dear, she was going to have to be on her best behaviour, "Oh, sorry that was a bit rude... I just didn't realise you were coming here too. Horace, wasn't it?" She explained before smiling at him, "Oh, yeah, do you know much about the books here?" She asked him wondering if he could tell her. I mean, they were both new so she didn't expect him to know where every book was but perhaps he might know something she didn't - she avoided the library anyway and well... he seemed a lot more comfortable here.

Horace was trying to not disturb the girl as he approached her but it seemed like he was a bit too sneaky and actually startled her. She just started thinking a lot about Merlin knows what but as Horace tried to comfort her she started acting ,well some will call it rude, but being a shy one himself he knew how it felt when someone just sneaks up on you.

As there was a bit of silence when she thought of something or other Horace noticed something he knew her and being a ravenclaw he almost never forgot anything she was Serena Towers they were family friends. She finally spoke about how she wasn't expecting him here and she remembered him at least the name. "Yep Horace it is and you must be Serena" he said with a smile.

And then she asked if he knew about the books around here. Well maybe Horace was a first year but he spent almost half his day in the library or reading library books all around the castle of course he knew about this place it was his home since he entered hogwarts. "You are talking to the right person for this! So what kind of books are you looking for? Or more precisely what kind of spells are you looking for?" he said as if he was the librarian here. Horace was not so fond of herbology or potions books he loved casting spells and wand waving is the only sport he knew.

A small flood of relief surged over her. At least she got the name right. Horace. Horace. Horace. She repeated the name mentally to try, making sure she remembered it. It would be really awkward if he told his family and she forgot who he was again. The problem with pure-blood families was that if he told his parents, his parents would definitely tell hers. And that thought made her feel dread. In all honesty, the Ravenclaw seemed nice. She was perhaps overthinking and worrying unnecessarily about it. However, she really didn't want her parents to get disappointed in her. Then again... most of her current friends were male... And not purebloods. Those were two factors that would definitely cause some sort of worry and disappointed from her parents. She was, after all, warned to stay away from boys. Whoops. On the plus side, Horace didn't count. Her family knew him so it was okay for her to talk to him.

Smiling, she nodded, "That's correct," She replied as he confirmed he knew her name, "Sorry, I didn't realise we were the same age," She apologised again for her rudeness, trying to explain why she didn't expect to see him in Hogwarts.

As Serena listened to the boy talk about books, her smile grew. It was like she could see the spark in his eyes light up from excitement. The more he spoke about it, the more into it he seemed to get. Her eyes flicked to the blue lining of his robes. Ravenclaw. It explained a lot. Smiling, "Well that's a relief!" She replied, glad that she wouldn't have to attempt to handle this alone. Pausing for a moment, she wondered exactly what she wanted. She wanted to learn healing spells because a few of her friends seemed to getting injured a lot... However, she was hesitant about giving too much information about the situation to him. If the Vargis family found out she hung out with boys who seemed to get injured a lot, it would definitely get back to her mother. And she didn't need a lecture on "troublesome boys". Deciding to remain a little vague, Serena looked down the shelves, "Uh well, ideally some basic healing spells. I'm not sure if there is such a thing but, I thought it might be useful in case anyone gets hurt around me, you know?" She explained. In all honesty, healing magic probably wasn't first year material but she thought she ought to give it a shot.
