A Drink With My Enemy
@Luna Choi
The day was a stormy one, rain tapping on the windows lightly along with the occasional thunder and lightning. While many might call this weather gross or miserable, it was absolutely perfect for Marla Quinlan. Why you may ask? Because she was a complete sucker (and nerd) for reading. It was something that she always adored to do when she was little, especially with weather like today. Especially with all the time she had on her hands at home, and the big library... There was nothing else to really do other than that, so through her childhood she probably read around half of her giant library. Yikes.
During breakfast, she had smuggled a cup of warm, apple cinnamon tea that she was currently sipping in the library while curled up on a fluffy chair in the depths of the library in an attempt to hide from most other students. Because, well, Hogwarts usually enforced their rules. Even the small ones. Including the 'no food or drinks in the library' stupidness. What's the point of reading if you couldn't snack while doing it? One of Marla's main excuses for eating is that she wants to read while doing it... Which was kind of sad, but true, nonetheless.
And the best part? She found the most amazing book! Marauding with Monsters. Yes, it was written by Gilderoy Lockheart, who was a fraud, and a horrible one at that... But she had to admit, he was quite the writer. She truly couldn't put the book down. At this point, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure... And there were no limits when it came to a good book with this girl, honestly.
But her reading was interrupted by the sound of footsteps. Marla yelped and hid the book behind her back, looking up at the person in front of her, face flushed.
"G'afternoon! How can– how can I help you?"
"your loss, baby !!"

A Drink With My Enemy

Luna quietly looked at the weather outside while she was walking in the hallway. Letting out a sigh, a sigh of relief obvious, she kept walking until she saw the familiar place and also the places that she was looking for, the library.
Saying that she was sad because the weather sounded as ridiculous as Harry Potter decided not to wear glasses anymore. It didn't really bother her, she liked rain to be fair. She wouldn't have to patrol those boring areas where people just used the broom and flew around. Boring.
With the fact that she needed more some not-too-interesting-but-acceptable books so that she could focus on other stuff while reading. She didn't want to totally focused on the book and ignored everything that was happening around. Well, it depended on the situation though. Like if people around here were too annoying, she would love to have a book that could make her forget that those people were around.
The lavender haired girl took a random book on the shelf and immediately went to find the free table in the depths of the library. Although this was the library, there were still some noises in the place that there were a lot of people. In addition, there were usually a lot of free tables in the depths of the library. She had no intention not to go there, the perfect place to read books.
Luna looked at the thing that caught her eyes first when she arrived. It was a cup. A cup of something, but it was still a cup. And there was a student who was drinking something using the cup. That was, totally unacceptable. Hadn't that person read the rules? That sounded like a big lie since this was already almost the end of this semester. There was no way this person couldn't know.
Sighing, she decided to go and gave that girl detention. Knowing the rule and broke it intentionally, who knew what kind of problem this girl would make if she only gave her the warning?
But even before she could say anything, that girl suddenly screamed when she realized the Slytherin Prefect was near her. That actually shocked Luna, also caught so much attention. She slightly looked around, and they quickly looked away as soon as her eyes were on them. Clever people, knowing that kept looking would caught themselves into trouble.
Looking back at the Gryffindor, she didn't show anything on her face but questioned that girl about her action inside. No, not the screaming part. It was hiding the book's part. She didn't hide the cup but the book, and that was so weird. A snake could never understand a lion's logic, and she already accepted that.
Also, what was G'afternoon? Was saying 'Good afternoon' in the correct way that hard? Instead of reply to the lion's question, she went straight to the point. "Drinking in the library is breaking the rule. I do not know which year you are, but this is almost the end of this semester, I doubt that you do not know about this." Tapping her fingers on the table, she continued, "Lucky you, you are facing a prefect while breaking the rule. Now, tell me your name and your detention will happen soon."
Just because I said you were bad does not mean that I am mean. It shows that I am honest.

[quote]As the girl with strikingly purple hair had approached her, the glint in her eyes shone as she judged Marla from head to toe. The fiery Gryffindor gave the cold-seeming company a glare, her golden eyes resembling a blazing fire, the false hospitality she had just moments ago fading completely. And making it even worse, the purple girl, (who was actually very familiar, making it even worse), began to speak like she owned the place. What a smartass!
Looking down at her robes, Marla not only noted that the familiar student was a Slytherin, but that she was a prefect as the little color left in her pale face drained. The Slytherin was going to give her detention, wasn't she? For a sense of false authority. Of course. That's what Slytherins did. Little assholes.
"Lucky you, you are facing a prefect while breaking the rule. Now, tell me your name and your detention will happen soon."
Lucky... Lucky? Oh, Marla Juliet Quinlan was far from that. In fact, she was steaming with anger. Her eyes were now a deep crimson, jaw sticking out from clenching it so tightly. At this point, it could even lock. Well, that was a stretch, considering she was quite weak... But still. She was fuming, and wasn't going to hide it.
"Okay, listen up Barney," The redhead said with a sneer, looking her up and down, "I'm sure you have better things to do than punish little old me." Exclaimed she sarcastically, putting her fingertips delicately on her chest as she took a loud sip of her tea. This would definitely probably get her detention, but that wasn't going to stop her from playing with this prissy prefect. The last thing that she needed was bullshit detention from this Yo Gabba Gabba-esque prefect with a God Complex on a weekend.
"Anyways, in summary, please go away. You should spend that precious time of yours getting your head out of your ass, not sending me off to the dumps to scrub the toilets again, or something." At this point, Marla was 110% getting detention. But she could not pass up the opportunity to tick this girl off. Seriously, she was going to give her detention for sipping milky leaf water? Piss off.

Barney? What did that mean? Luna had never heard that word before. But based on the fact that this girl used it to call her with that kind of emotion, it might be some kind of insult. She did not know about much insult words, so this could explain things. After all, she doubted that anyone could be happy when they heard that they received a detention. Even Luna, she hated detention. If she received detention... there was a high chance that she would try to revenge the person who gave her it.
Though, she would definitely not calling the person who was going to give her detention by something bad, especially something that the other person couldn't understand what she said. Luna now just assumed that as a bad word. Maybe it could be some sort of Muggle things, boring.
That was a stupid sentence. Hadn't she made it clear? "Obvious I have much better things to do instead of wasting my precious time on you." She didn't want to do this at all, because this was really boring. Really boring that made her just wanted to leave the library and find other things to do. She just wanted to read books peacefully, or just rested somewhere. However, she couldn't just leave this place after this girl talked to her like this. In addition, she had to do her job. Luna just wished that this girl accepted her fate faster so that she could get out of this place faster. Seriously, why did she apply for prefect's role again?
The lavendered hair girl was the sure surprise of how rude this girl was. Even more than her. She didn't show that she was surprised, but seriously... Ugh, Gryffindors. Most of them were just too annoying. "As if I would listen to you, Miss? I apologize for my word. But, you are sure an idiot." Luna looked straight into that girl's eyes, and continued, "If you do not want to scrub the toilets, I have much more funnier things for you to do. Now I shall repeat myself to you. What. Is. Your. Name?"
Just because I said you were bad does not mean that I am mean. It shows that I am honest.

[quote]Clenching her jaw because of the wildfire of fury making its course through her body, Marla sat up in her chair, ready to act as the Slytherin kept on talking, and talking, and talking. God, did she ever shut up? No wonder Kyle tried to play that prank on the snakes at the beginning of the year. Some of them are unbearable.
Truly, this was the most rotten human that she had met at Hogwarts thus far. Some people like Ruby Cazares or Emile Yorke were just complete angels... Though this girl was an exception. She even looked like a weird demon with that stupid purple hair. What? Did she dye it? Thought she looked cool? Yeah, even with the most bright hair in the world, nothing can make up for being a snitch. At this point, she was just making excuses to hate her more, but either way, there was no way that she was going to let herself get detention from this psychopath! Considering her last detention consisted of cleaning blood and glass, she couldn't imagine what this girl would have in store for Marla.
And as if she could not get any more furious, this girl called Marla an idiot. She was the idiot? Oh, yeah, oookay. This prefect was going to be in for a trip if she was looking for a fight. She opened her mouth to say something, nothing in particular, but what she knew for sure was that she was most likely going to regret it. And therefore, she shut it. It wasn't worth it. Actually, that was a lie. The look on her face would be the most satisfying thing that Marla would see all day. Though, calling her an idiot would not do it. If she decided to say or do anything else, oh, she thought of something else even better. Marla made for her wand, gripping the carved ash tightly, awaiting the girl's next words with a devilish smirk tugging at her lips.
Marla Quinlan had come to a conclusion: the prefect was not giving up, whether she wished upon the most powerful force of magic or not. And so, as any annoyed person does, she rolled her eyes into the next century before speaking. "I– my name is–" She halted speaking, freezing for a second before having an epiphany. Whipping out her wand that she had been grasping in her hands for the past few minutes, she pointed it at the violet-haired girl, glancing to the wand and back up to the student. This was going to most likely end horribly.
"Flipendo!" She moved her wand fluently, squinting her eyes as a shining blue light emitted from the ash. Pleasepleaseplease work... She hadn't used any spell of this sort since her duel with Emile, and god, did that go horrible or what? Marla bit her lip as she watched the Slytherin be thrown into a bookshelf and gasped, feeling a sudden weight on her shoulders. What the hell had she done? Oh, she felt like she was going to vomit.
This was going to be a shit show.

A Drink With My Enemy

Luna looked at the Gryffindor girl quietly, waiting for her to say her name, which would happen soon. She thought it would take her more time to make this girl spilled out her name, but it did not seem so. Well, after all, not all the girls were idiots as Mari Haynes.
Who was Mari Haynes? If someone asked Luna that question, her answer would be 'Someone who should be kicked out of Hogwarts.' She hated this kid. She was annoying, kept making messes and was useless. Also, annoying. This girl liked crying, totally the opposite of Luna, which was why she came up with a nickname for her, Water Tap.
She could still remember that day, the day she gave that idiot her detention. The most horrible thing was that she had to pull this girl to the Hospital Wings. No, there were no reasons why she would feel sorry or want to give that kid an apologize. She had to touch that girl. T o u c h that girl.
Gross. Very gross indeed. No one knew, but she had to wash her hands more than five times after doing it. Spending too much time in the toilet was also horrible, however, having the s m e l l of Water Tap was much more of a nightmare to Luna.
And within a second this girl managed to make Luna had the thought that she was as much as an idiot as Water Tap. When she was thinking about that kid, The Gryffindor did not hesitate to use the Knockback Jinx on the Slytherin Prefect. The most stupid thing was that Luna was distracted by Water Tap. She was unable to dodge it.
Where was this place? The library. What did we have in the library? Bookshelves. And how lucky she was, right behind her was a bookshelf. With the Gryffindor's attack, she was completely being thrown in the bookshelf without any mercy, not that she needed anyway. If it was just being knocked back and fell, then that might be alright to her. However, she hit the bookshelf behind her. A bookshelf which was placed in the Hogwarts' library, and, just like all the bookshelves here, it was pretty big. Not all of the books fell on Luna, but most of them did.
It... well, hurt. She was not someone who was made by lonsdaleite, which was tougher than diamond. She was a human, even when people around her age were all idiots, she was still a human. Well, she would not scream and then cry like a dummy. Luna stayed completely quiet, staring at the Gryffindor girl.
If eye gazes could kill people, this girl would be burned by her more than three thousand times. Why three thousand? She just came up with it, who knew where she heard that term? It was not important anyway.
And who were we talking about? Luna Choi, the Slytherin Prefect. She would not become stupid just because of being knocked back. This Gryffindor had succeeded to be in her blacklist. However, Luna was not the type that would revenge right in front of so many people in a quiet library. She was the type that would attack in behind, in this case, she would give this girl detention, as bad as the one she gave Water Tap. And, maybe some troubles in the future, who knew?
Luna stood up. She was not pretty strong, but because the girl used to fall from trees a lot in the past, her body kind of gotten used to it. Looking at the brave girl straight into her eyes, she talked with a colder tone than usual, "If you attacked me, I am sure that you were also ready for what is going to happen?"

A Drink With My Enemy
Although an ideal day would have consisted of flying around the Quidditch pitch, the unfortunate occurrence of rain prevented this fantasy from becoming a reality. In addition, it seemed that none of Olphie's current lovers were available to entertain her with a romp around Hogsmeade, so Olphie Bercegeay was, today, much better identified as Olphie Boredegeay. She had spent the day experimenting with new makeup and hairstyles, but without the power of the internet (why was Hogwarts so medieval, still? Muggle high schools could benefit from Hogwarts' means of technological suppression), she was lost as to what other fun ways she could vary her life.
After pondering her predicament, Olphie settled on the fact that she would have to resort to her least favorite activity: reading. She was already caught up on the things that were actually worth reading, like Witch Weekly and the tabloids, so the only option was to go to the hell that was also known as the library. Maybe, if she was lucky, she would find some sort of entertaining novel about brothers who lifted tvs for each other.
The entertainment would be found not in a novel but instead through two young children, both of who were wearing their prefect badges with pride. They seemed to be in a disagreement of sorts, and then the Gryffindor girl attacked the lavender haired Slytherin that Olphie had met previously but who the heck knows what happened in that thread because SOMEONE won't respond to it by using a Flipendo spell. Luna seemed to taunt the other girl with her words, and Olphie knew that she just had to go and save the day before the girls fought each other to the death. Though that would be much more interesting than the library books...
No, no. She was a professor, and with that title meant some sort of responsibility; something told her that she should maybe intervene before they murder each other. She could imagine the Headmaster might be unhappy if she returned from the hell of the library with two dead children, dragged behind her. So, she supposed she should say something. "What is going on here?" She asked, forcing an angry look to cover her face, though she found the entire situation quite amusing. "It seems that a detention is in order for two fighting children... unless you can explain yourselves."
She began to tap her foot as she looked at the two children and wondered if there was anything that they could say to get them out of detention. Olphie did have the perfect detention in mind, so she certainly hoped they wouldn't...

[quote]No, no, no! This was going all wrong. How could she be so stupid? Ugh, this dumb prefect! This wouldn't have even started if she got that stick out of her ass. But of course, Miss Barney wanted to do things the hard way. It was literally and figuratively a mess, the Slytherin was practically suffocating in books as they all imploded down on her after the poor girl's impact with the shelf. "Shoot– I.. I didn't mean to–," Before finishing her sentence, Marla needed to check if the prefect was even alive. That was a really bad fall, and with the weight of all that paper? It would be no surprise if that did her in.
Wait. Wouldn't that make Marla...A murderer?! No! She wasn't a killer! The furthest thing from one! So young, so capable, and now all that she could see in her future was Azkaban, written in capital bubble letters. Why, cruel world? Couldn't you have waited until she tried butterbeer for the first time? So new to the wizarding universe, and it was coming to an end so quickly. She hoped that they had complimentary pumpkin pasties in jail.
But then the girl rose, looking more vengeful than ever. In fact, now with her hair covering her face from the fall, she somewhat resembled a corpse. With the bloodthirsty fury in her eyes... Or maybe that was just the lighting. When she spoke, however, there was no doubt in the Gryffindor's mind that the prefect was angry. Like, really angry. Her words sent chills down her spine. They almost felt like when you're outside on a below-freezing winter day, and the wind blows so hard that you can't breathe, and every inch of skin exposed that isn't covered by cloth burns, leaving tingling sensations after when the winds come to a stop. However, not even the prefect's icy dialogue could strike through the immense relief that Marla was experiencing, now that she was assured that she was, in fact, not a murderer.
"Do yah think I'm stoopid?" Yes. Even Marla herself thought she was stupid! Well, sometimes. But who in their right mind would call the girl bright?! She thought Britney Spears was an online weapon shop for years on end. "Look, how ahbout we both go on our merry ways, and nobody has tah get more hurt than they already have, ay?" She stuck out her hand for the girl to shake to make the deal official, because there was no way in hell she was going to let herself get another detention so close to the end of the school year.
"What is going on here?"
Hearing another, definitely older voice, Marla's hand recoiled as she looked to her side. To her surprise, the flying professor was standing tall and impatiently, a furious expression on her face. Rumors say that she's a whack job, and after spotting the professor in Hogsmeade trying to snog that poor Hufflepuff head of house... There was no denying it. That woman was straight-up insane. "I– she– we–," Marla would say that she lost her train of thought, but she didn't even have one in the first place. There was no thought that went into the actions that just went down. Just intentions. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she slowed her mind down and spoke again. "Ah was just reading mah book when this weirdo," She pointed to the prefect accusingly, "Started messing wit' me an' pushin' me, and this was just self-defense, yeah?" The Gryffindor held back the smug grin that was tugging on the corner of her lips ever so temptingly. Holding up her hands in a surrendering manner, she gave the prefect a filthy and equally cocky look. If Marla was going down, Miss Barney was coming with her.
Then Miss Bercegeay's next words rang in her ears. Detention?! That's what she was trying to avoid with this whole thing! But one with the flying professor was a step up than with Barney. At least she wouldn't have to... Eat poop or whatever Barneys made people they hate do for detention. "Fine. But ah don't think its fair if ahm tha only one who gets punished. She was the one who started this mess, ahfter all."

A Drink With My Enemy

"Yes, I am pretty sure you are stupid, for attacking a prefect." Luna suddenly started laughing. The tone in her laugh was however not happiness. As sudden as how she started laughing, the girl stopped and just stared deeply at the Gryffindor's eyes quietly. How funny she felt right now. This girl attacked her, and now she asked for her to act as if nothing happened. If they were in a duel right now, Luna would not hesitate to give her an Incendio Duo. It would hurt her enough. And what a joke, she was not the type of girl that would let others bully her easily. She was also not the type to forgive and forget as well, so letting this go was impossible.
Then, that moment, the Slytherin prefect heard someone else's voice talking to them. Although she had no interest in remembering people's names and faces, she could not help but knowing the professors' faces. After all, she met and kind of interact with them every weekday and sometimes at the weekend. She was not the type of prefects who ignored everything, she just ignored most of the things. There was a big difference in all and most.
Either way, professor Bercegeay had arrived. However, the Slytherin prefect was not going to let the flying professor give this idiot detention instead of her. Normally, she would gladly accept if someone wanted to deal with the trouble for her. However, this time was different. It was not because she wanted to fulfill her mission. It was just, giving someone you hated detention felt very, very good. Luna learned that from giving Water Tap's the detention about cleaning some stuff. Seeing that girl crying while dealing with the detention was amazing.
"Miss, I know you are a wise person." Luna stared at the professor. To be honest, she did not know if this woman was smart or not. After all, the subject that she was teaching was flying, and it did not relate to anything logical such as the study of ancient runes and stuff. To be honest, she looked down on this boring subject. There was nothing fun about flying around, it was questionable that there were so many people liked it.
Either way, the most important thing right now was that she needed to clear her name first. When she was about to open her mouth, the idiot started talking and blamed her for everything that just happened.
Great, now the professor would think she was the reason for this mess. Though, Luna would not let herself get into detention. "All I did was doing my job." She lightly tapped on her prefect badger that she was wearing. "One of the rules was that eating or drinking in the library was not allowed. And this girl right here, she broke the rule. Then, when I told her that she did, she refused to have detention and decided to attack me."

A Drink With My Enemy
Unfortunately for the red-haired Gryffindor, Olphie valued power far more than anything else. One of these girls had power; though Olphie had not had a pleasant experience with the lavender-haired girl the one other time they had truly interacted, she knew her duties and her place. So when Miss Cheeto spoke of all the indiscretions that the other had done, after the Gryffindor dramatically claimed none of it was her fault, Olphie could not help but be fully convinced that Leona was correct. "Well," she began with a sad smile, bouncing her eyes from one girl to another, "I'm sorry to say that Miss Chosenone was a...chosen member of her staff, and a very reputable one, at that. So while I hate to say it, it seems you need a detention Miss...oh well, what's the effort, I'm sure Miss Chihuahua can let me know later. But you need to listen to someone of such power. For without power, this castle would be in chaos!"
She laughed at the thought of Hogwarts being a free-for-all, clearly over the sadness of one of the girls getting detention. Imagine if there were no hierarchy; then Olphie would have to deal with this nonsense, and she certainly wasn't getting paid enough for that!
The Flying professor presumed that everything was settled and left without a further word. Whether that meant that the redheaded Gryffindor would listen to the Slytherin did not truly matter to her, in actuality. All she cared was that, if something bad were to have happened, she could at least correctly claim that she had attempted to intervene.
Olphie has left the thread.
