Astra was in an isolated part of the library looking for a new book to read. It was the middle of the year and the library was still her favorite place to be in. She learned where all her favorite books where and she found her quiet place. When she wanted some time alone she always hid behind a tall bookshelf to read a good book. This was one of those days, she was sitting on the wooden floor turning the thin pages of an old book she got her hands on.
Astra didn't have any friends, she always told herself she didn't need any, that she can be independent. She continued telling herself that but deep inside of her she knew that she couldn't spend 7 years alone. But the main problem was that her stubbornness didn't allow her to make new friends. Back at home it was way easier, she had her older brother who was always besides her.
But now she was at Hogwarts, a place full of annoying children who either thought that they were better than everyone else, or they didn't know what was going on around then. Man, she hated the first ones with a passion, her other hobby besides reading was to put the bullies in their place.
She continued reading as she heard voices that were getting closer and closer. They weren't close enough so that she would actually understand what the people were saying so she continued listening.

She's mad but she's magic. There's no lie in her fire.

Since the first incident when the bullying took a turn from verbal to a physical level, it was as though Illowy had allowed a big red target to be slapped on her back. Internally, she would kick herself for not standing up for herself when it first started, but it was wearing her down trying to stand up for herself without falling into the trap they were trying to lure her into; that she was a stereotypical Slytherin, that she was the violent and evil one. It was a double edged sword.

Even her sanctuary, the library, was no longer safe. Illowy had been reaching for a book when a student from a house different from her own, jerked her arm down, pinning it behind her back as she shoved Illowy against the shelf, "Still lurking, you little snake?" the student laughed in her ear in a way that made her want to cringe. Before the brunette could say anything, the bigger girl whipped her around, not waiting for the girl to find her footing before shoving her to the ground, flat on her back. It sent her books sliding down the aisle and knocked the wind clean out of the girl as she gasped.

The bigger girl simply laughed, "That's more like it. Writhing around like the snake you are."

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Astra furrowed her brows as she listened to the disgusting remarks she was hearing. She felt as someone was being pushed around hearing how the body of what she guessed was a student hit the floor.
She was wondering what was going on and who was the one resposible for the lound noises that were only meters away from her. She quickly got up putting her book on the table next to her. She casually followed the noises that eventually led her to a big female student trying to put a small brunette girl to the ground. Astra's eyes widened in shock as she couldn't believe what was happening in front of her. Without even thinking she loudly said: "Get off her". The girl who until then had a dumb smile on her face looked up. Astra looked her dead in the eyes not even flinching when the girl got up and started walking closer to her. "Are you going to shove me to the ground too?" Astra said as she got her wand out. Astra didn't know what was she going to do, she didn't know any defensive spells well enough to use them on a living person. If the girl wanted to put her down, she will put her down, Astra was a petite girl so she wasn't going to win a physical fight. She looked at the brunette girl that was still on the ground as she yelled "RUN".
Astra started running in the brunette's direction grabbing her hand. She knew for a fact that the big girl was stronger than her, but she was faster, and smarter.

The bully pulled her gaze away from the Slytherin as the stranger appeared, the ugly grin falling from her features as she looked the girl up and down, as though sizing her up for the best way to put her in her place the way she had for Illowy. The bully narrowed her eyes as she approached the girl, interest in Illowy lost the time being as she tried to regain her senses.

Sitting up, the brunette watched as the bully advanced, and the girl dressed in Gryffindor colors drew her wand. Was she really about to try to duel the girl right there in the middle of the library? Surely not else there would be trouble from the staff for sure, and the last thing she wanted was for the staff to be getting involved in something she felt she ought to be able to handle herself... then again, if she was having to have her butt saved by another student, perhaps it was just becoming increasingly obvious that she couldn't handle herself as well as she thought she could.

Then, the strange girl did something even Illowy wasn't expecting as she flashed dark eyes towards her and barked her order. For once, Illowy wasn't about to oppose another student telling her what to do as the girl charged in her direction. The child scurried to her feet with the aid of the other first year when she was taken by the hand and pulled along.

Legs pumping to keep up with the other, she couldn't help but keep looking back over her shoulder, watching as the bully faded further and further behind them before she was sure they lost her.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Astra continued running in the maze they call a library. She was lucky that she spent all of her time in this room, now knowing all the good hiding spots. She was still holding the girl's hand as she was dragging her. The moment she started running, she never looked back at the girl, that moments ago wanted to beat her up.
They ran together in the gigantic library until Astra realised that by now the bully was out of breath or too lazy to catch them up. She let go of the girl's hand as she tried to breath normally again. Astra wasn't athletic so she had to take a moment to catch her breath. She didn't know why she helped this girl who was nothing but a stranger to her, but in that moment when she saw her on the ground, something inside of Astra told her to save her. Astra was always the logical type, she liked to think about things but in that moment she acted instinctively. As she dusted off her clothes, she looked up at the pale girl. "Are you okay?" She quietly waited for her answer as she examined her.She quickly realised that the girl was wearing Slytherin colors, weren't Slytherins the ones who did the bullying? She asked herself looking at the brunette.

When they finally came to a halt, the bully lost somewhere in the twists and turns of the library shelves behind them, Illowy leaned back against one of the heavy bookcases to catch her breath. She may not have seemed it, but the girl had little lacking in the athleticism arena. She'd done dance for years and thankfully that kept her in shape enough not to feel like she was dying if she had to run for her life from bully to bully.

Once the other girl had caught her own breath and asked her question, Illowy ran a hand through her hair and gave a small nod, catching the strange look the other gave her, possibly realizing she'd just stuck her neck out for a Slytherin of all people. The brunette couldn't help but retreat into herself slightly, and a frustration sparked in her over the situation. Once again, she had to be saved. Once again, she allowed herself to be defenseless and useless and allowed another person to put their hands on her.

"Yeah... I'm fine..." she muttered, standing up a bit straighter as she fixed her uniform and robes back into proper form, "You didn't have to do that. I can handle myself..." she said quietly. Of course she knew actually thanking the girl was in order, but she found it hard these days she shake the feeling that judgment was being passed over her at every turn, and time and time again proved it to be negative. Chronically, the girl was falling into the mindset that if people where going to judge her for the worst, she might as well live up to their expectations.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Astra looked at the brunette in front of her wondering what she meant. She can handle herself? All Astra knew was that if she didn't step to help her, she would still be on the ground humiliated by the bully. Astra tucked a strand of her long brown hair behind her ear. She looked confused and also annoyed. "You can handle yourself?'' She awkwardly laughed. "Don't make me laugh. Minutes ago you were on the ground unable to fight back. Clearly you needed help, or getting bullied is on your wish list" She said, her voice being louder than the Slytherin's.
She ran a hand through her hair as she continued examining the girl's face. Astra was being rude, she knew it. She just couldn't help it, she was always annoyed at something or someone.
Sometimes she wondered how people can just allow to be treated this way. Because of her bold, outspoken self, Astra was never in such situations. Her brother always taught her how to stand up for herself and how to make people to listen to her, sometimes be afraid. Her mysterious cold aura sometimes frightened people. Astra knew that she wasn't approachable, she did it on purpose. She knew that only the people who actually would want to ge to know her would approach her,

It was another blow to her pride at the other girl called her out for not defending herself, "There's a difference between being unable to fight and unwilling to fight." the difference was a mute point. She was both unable and unwilling. The girl learned quickly that if she stood up for herself, she was only aiding the stereotype that Slytherins were violent and evil and no good.

On the other hand, if she didn't fight, she looked weak and pathetic and had to deal with the constant hits to both her body and ego. That was certainly something she wasn't fond of, but what other choice did she have when she was being cornered like a mouse? Illowy very well couldn't just flippendo them out of her way.... not without getting caught, that it.

"Just like a Gryffindor thinking everyone needs your help or that its your place to save them." comments like this were often calculated for Illowy. She would poke at whatever buttons she could and see what she could do to make sure whomever was bothering her would have decided by the end of their interaction to never want to talk to her again. It was her defense mechanism. Often, it seemed safer and like a better ordeal to be alone then let people in.

Astra was a bit shocked when the girl turned the situation around and attacked her for trying to help. She let out a deep breath almost trying to calm herself. Astra didn't like to be angry and to be controlled by anger, but sometimes she couldn't help it. Most of the time she would say everything that was on her mind. She thought that being part-veela made her react like this in certain situations. She looked the girl in the eyes and calmly said. "There are fights that you will be forced to fight, that won't make you a bad person, if that's what you're worried about. But right now, you are unwilling and unable to fight"
One thing Astra was taught at home was to help people, be kind and compassionate. She tried doing it in her own way even though it wasn't the most efficient one.
Astra didn't want to come off as rude for once, she really wanted to help the girl, but if the girl didn't want the help, she couldn't do anything about it. "You try to act tought, you don't need help, I get it. But the thing is, I'm not helping you because I'm a Gryffindor, I'm helping you because it's in my human nature "

"That's a pretty easy thing to say when you have the red and gold around your neck." she retorted quickly in reference in the uniform tie. The girl ran a hand through her hair and smoothed out her uniform, trying to not look so disheveled as the other continued on with her lecture. What did she know? Had she ever been in such a position where her very character was constantly being assumed for the worst? Had she ever had to stare down the length of someone else's wand while being sprawled out on the floor, surrounded and unarmed? Probably not.

Illowy was barely listening by this point, "What do you know?" she muttered, pulling her bag up onto her shoulder, "I have two options. I can either fight and give into what they already think of me, or I can do nothing and let them think I'm pathetic and weak. Its a double edged sword and either way blood is going to be drawn. That's just how it is. That's how it is when your Deatheaters and the Dark Lord come from your house, while you get the Boy Who Lived." that seemed to be the way of it ever since the war. While other houses got to continue on and thrive, Slytherins were left to pick up the pieces of their reputation and try to rectify their tarnished image.
