New Memories, Old Books PV Rorie Finished

Landon walked into the library, his long robes flowing behind him, the golden Hufflepuff crest on his chest proudly worn.

He stopped, looking around, trying to locate his sister, Beaux, a fourth year in Gryffindor. He noticed her at a table near the back of the library, sitting with another girl, considerably younger, about his age. He hurried over to join his sibling and whoever it was she was talking so animatedly to, tussling his hair by habit as he approached.

"Hey, Boo. Haven't seen you for two days, what's with that?" He asked his sister.

"Landon, don't call me Boo. I don't go by that here," she hissed quietly to him. Apparently she was too cool to be called by her cute little family nickname, Landon didn't quite understand it.

"I don't know. I just don't find time to hang out with my kid brother when I have tons of work and enough other people to hang out with," she raised her voice back to normal volume, putting emphasis on "kid".

Landon rolled his eyes. His sister always thought of him as being a toddler, as if he wasn't mature enough to be in actual conversations. It was constantly being teased at him, and Landon was really annoyed by it. But, not wanting to make a fool out of himself in front of another person, he just sat down across from his sister, pulling out his History of Magic homework.

Rorie tried to hold in her laughter, but just couldn't.

"Boo? That's what they call you at home?" she managed between bouts of giggles. Beaux, one of her best friends even despite the age difference, was trying to get her to shut up, but Rorie just could not.

After a solid few minutes, the Thompson girl calmed down, her face bright red from all the laughing. She looked up at her friend's brother, obviously another first year, a Hufflepuff according to his robes.

"So this is your brother? He looks like you!" She squealed to the embarassed Beaux, who just sat there with her arms folded.

"Alright, alright, I'll stop," Rorie muttered to the girl before standing up confidently and introducing herself to the boy.

"I'm Rorie Thompson. I've already heard a ton about you from your sister, though I can't say it included very many good things," she added, smirking at her comment.

Rorie stuck her hand out and confidently shook his hand before sitting back down at the table and getting back to work on her herbology homework.

Lots of kids didn't like herbology, but it was Rorie's favorite. She loved nature, and studying plants was just an excuse to enjoy the environment.

The girl with his sister was laughing at his sister's nickname, which made Landon smile and laugh a bit too. He supposed that Beaux probably didn't like it, though, and knew that, though she wouldn't be too mad at her friend, she would probably kill Landon for laughing at the pain he himself had caused her.

"I don't know whether it's a compliment or an insult to say I look like my sister," he joked, sticking his tongue out quickly at Beaux. "I'm Landon, though you apparently know my name and all the bad things about me from Beaux, here." He made sure to emphasize the fact that he said her real name, which his sister replied to by giving him a little eyebrow raise.

"I think I'll be going, now. See you later, Ror. Have fun with my annoying kid brother," Beaux teased as she swung her bag over her shoulder and walked away, her long straight black hair bouncing in its ponytail.

Landon wondered if he did look like his sister. They both had black hair and dark brown eyes, the same color skin, they were both ectomorphs. He supposed they probably did look similar.

"You have herbology homework too? Are you good at it? I definitely suck at that class, but if you need any help in history of magic I can definitely make it up to you." He started a conversation with Rorie, trying to minimize the awkwardness of the situation.

See, she was right! Nobody she knew really liked herbology or was good at it!

"Hah, yeah, I have herbology homework. It's quite easy though. I'll help you out, and I'll take you up on that history of magic help offer too!" She smiled at Landon, observing him closely for the first time.

He had pretty dark brown eyes that were soft and warm, open wide. His hair was minimally messy, black and curly. It was in a nice swooping haircut, not styled at all. The way that the hair fell was nice, though. He looked up from his paper and met her gaze, and an awkward Rorie averted her eyes quickly, her cheeks burning as he smirked.

"Now, onto that herbology assignment. Gillyweed gives the person who eats it gills to make oxygen out of water and webbed hands and feet to swim around more effectively..." She continued to explain the lesson to him, changing the subject so that no comments would be made about the red-cheeked face that she was hiding behind her long dark blonde hair. She couldn't help but catch a glance at him every little while, though, his brows furrowed as he tried to understand the plant.

Landon looked up from his parchment to stare straight into the electric blue eyes of Rorie Thompson. They were wide and observant, looking straight at him. Not breaking the gaze, Landon looked back for a few seconds before the girl blushed and quickly looked away, talking about the plant called willygeed.

Wait no, gillyweed.

As she looked down at her homework while explaining about herbology, Landon took his turn observing the other.

Rorie had long dark blonde hair, loosely curled and hanging over her face, obviously a tactic she had developed to hide her shy face. When she did look up to explain to him, though, Landon saw another appearance of those stunning blue eyes.

Landon copied down what Rorie had said in his own words as best he could. He was surprised at how well she had done explaining, he understood gillyweed very well afterwards.

Putting his finished herbology assignment into his bag, he enthusiastically said to Rorie, "Are you ready for history of magic?"

He helped her through the problems. Rorie seemed to have listened to the lesson as best she could, but had a hard time answering the questions. When they were finished, Landon checked the time.

It was 2:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon, and he was just longing to go onto the grounds or somewhere else.

"So, uh, do you wanna go somewhere else?" He suggested shyly.

"Yeah, I suppose. Why not, it's the weekend and I don't want to spend it all cooped up doing homework!" She smirked, swinging her bookbag over her shoulder sassily.

The two first years walked out of the library, Rorie bouncing happily.

"Let's go to the quidditch pitch. I haven't been there in a while," She suggested, following it up with a, "Heck, maybe you can even teach me how to fly, I haven't really figured it out even with the flying lessons."

Rorie thought back to that traumatic day when a classmate's broom went out of control and they plummeted from the sky, falling so fast that if the teacher hadn't magically slowed them they probably would've splattered all over the ground on the impact.

Oh, that was a little too graphic for even Rorie. She shuddered, pushing that explicit image out of her mind and changing the subject.

They walked through the halls of the historic castle, pushing each other and joking around. After a short detour of playing a game of really intense tag, which Rorie won, being faster, they returned to their path and headed off to the quidditch training pitch to spend a few more hours of their weekend.
I'm going to create a new thread on the quidditch training pitch asap, I'll owl you it when it's finished.
