When her dad had described Hogwarts, he'd gone into detail about the library. He said how it was a great, massive place, with lots of hiding spots for things to happen in. But nothing had been able to distract Kalani from the fact that it was a library, full of old boring dusty books that she didn't care about and didn't need to care about.

Oh boy, was she wrong about that.

See, Hogwarts was a lot more difficult than her old school had been. A hundred new subjects, a thousand new rules, and a million new things that she needed to know. Her parents had, a few days ago, send her a letter that said they hoped she was 'studying regularly and doing her best'. She hadn't, but it was time to now. A backpack full of textbooks and jotters and loose notes weighed her down as she waddled along the hall to the Library.

Inside it was almost empty, apart from a few scattered students: a group of Hufflepuff girls; a Slytherin boy who had to be in sixth or seventh year; a Ravenclaw girl with massive glasses and a can of juice that made tiny popping sounds, like an extreme soda. Kalani was the only Gryffindor, at least the only one that was sitting in the study area.

She took the first available free table, and sat her backpack on the table. It was time to study. Though, she didn't really know how to do it. First, she needed to get her stuff out, she supposed.

Soon, she had all her textbooks and jotters and a quill and inkwell splayed out in front of her across the table. She didn't really know where to start. She absentmindedly reached out to the closest textbook, which turned out to be on Herbology. Yeah, she could do a little on plants. Grabbing her notes messily titled 'Herbology', she started to scan them, though quickly found her mind wandering.

Aurelia had to get the article done within a few days. She had forgotten that she had volunteered to do the topic about events and now she was struggling to get the necessary data. She wished that the wizarding world would invent something similar to Google. It was much more effective then going around asking fellow students. She had already interview two students and their answers were decent but they didn’t have much to talk about.

The girl had heard about strange happening in Hogwarts like a broom exploding in mid air when somebody was chasing it. Also she had seen a figure that had given her chills down her spine during the camp out but she knew it wasn’t a student. She just needed to put it in the Gryffpost so others could be warned, she also hoped not to get fired if they though she was a crazy witch.

The library was a place where Aurelia though would be best to find students to interview. She hoped she wouldn’t get chased away. The tall girl scanned the room for any Gryffindors, perhaps they’d be more welcoming if they see a writer from their own house.

There weren’t many Gryffindors around and most students were of older years. Aurelia was quite frightened of older years. It’s not that she had never hung out with older years but it was because she was afraid they might criticise her when she asked her questions.

Aurelia had hung out with kids at least 10 year older than her. In fact they were street kids, the ones that had tattoos all over their bodies and edgy hairstyles. Even they looked scary to other kids, they didn’t look one bit menacing to the eleven year old girl. It was most probably because she had known them since she was seven and they would very patiently taught her how to skateboard. She considered them as her second family. But now Gryffindor was her third.

Finally, she saw a young girl with a Gryffindor logo on her robe. She had her head down, probably doing an assignment. Aurelia really didn’t want to be asked to leave. She sat on the seat across the girl.
Hello, I am Aurelia Bezuidenhout, I’m a writer for the Gryffpost, is it alright if I ask you some questions?” The girl asked confidently, trying to seem as friendly as possible.

She was five minutes into studying, and Kalani's mind had already totally wandered. She was thinking about the rumours she'd been hearing. About shadowy, masked figures lurking in corners and in the dark, especially when you think you're alone. Kalani glanced around the library, squinting into the long, dark spaces where the light in the library didn't reach. Surely there was nothing down there. It was late afternoon, and she wasn't alone; there were students behind her, at their own tables. From what she'd heard, masked figures had only attacked those people that were alone.

She was ready to look down at her book and stare at pictures of plants again before a girl appeared and sat down in front of her. Her robes said she was a Gryffindor. From across the table she looked taller than Kalani, but she was certain she knew the girl from maybe one or two of her classes, so she had to be a first year. The name that she said was long and difficult for Kalani to keep up with, so she tried to focus on the first name. She wasn't even sure on that. Was it a double-barrelled name - Ari-Leah? - or another one of the weird names that a lot of wizards had? She didn't even want to try the surname out. She'd need to find out how to write the girl's name somehow...

After a few seconds of puzzling over the name, Kalani realised that the girl was asking for an interview. She wasn't sure how well she'd be able to have an interview with just a lot of hand gestures and stuff like that. Maybe she'd be best to write a note? She'd done that before, and that had ended up fine!

She looked around for a piece of paper, and her hands found her Herbology binder. She flipped to the back, and scrawled along the top line in ink:
That sounds fun! But I'll have to write down all my answers, and you'll have to speak a little slower. I'm deaf, but you can still speak the questions just fine! Do you still want to do the interview?
She hesitated, before adding:
And I'm really sorry, but what's your name? I didn't catch it! I'm Kalani!
She added a smiley-face after her name, then lifted the notebook out and held it out to the Gryffpost writer. If she didn't want to do the interview anymore, then it was understandable...but disappointing for a fellow Gryffindor.
