After an exhausting day of classes, Phel arrived in the library, accompagnied by his friend Callie, to look for informations about the bat-horse. The emotional galaxy inside him had calmed down as the hours passed, and he was feeling in a much better mood than on the morning. It was, in fact, such that he was even motivated to help Callie with her research on the legendary monsters.

Confidence was flowing through the veins of Phel with ease, just like the carriages moved rapidly on their own without being pulled by monstrosities. His earlier doubts about the existence of bat-horses, created by the sudden seriousness of Callie, had disappeared, leaving empty room for strong determination. The boy was resolutely decided to prove the girl he was not so naive anymore, and that her little jokes would have to be better planned before they could ever work on Phel again.

The library was rather busy, as expected. Classes were barely over afterall, and the influx of students coming in search of books and informations for their homeworks would only grow with the minutes. Phel worried for a second, afraid that the high number of people in the library would prevent them from carrying out their research properly; he then realised how irrelevant this feeling was. They were going to look for an imaginary animal... that Callie had very few informations about... in the books stored on the countless shelves of the library. Even on their best behaviour, there was no possible way for them to find any sort of relevant knowledge on the subject.

"Alright, Callie. Where should we start ? The magical creatures shelves ? Or maybe the horror and terrific legends one ? You lead me. It's your monster." he added with a mischievous smile he had stolen from her. Maybe she was starting to exert some strange influence on him afterall.

"Hurry up, Phel!" Callie exclaimed as she bounded down the corridor towards the library. It may have been the end of classes for the day but Callie was still as excitable as ever. Throughout the entire day she'd constantly been yammering on about how she was going to prove Phel wrong and even now it continued. Callie bounded into the library with Phel in tow but found herself completely unfazed by the large volume of people within the library walls. If anything it only seemed to cement her determination to track down the right book. Sadly the girl got a little too overexcited at finally arriving in the library that she managed to trip over her own feet, barely managing to avoid knocking over a cart of books. "Oops!" Someone nearby made a rather loud sushing noise towards Callie which she gave an apologetic grin in response to.

Callie made sure to match Phel's mischievous smile with the slightest glint of excitment lurking behind her glasses. However despite the fact their research had been on her mind all day Callie wasn't entirely sure where to start. After all she knew very little about the creature other than it's appearance which made things quite difficult. "Well they have to be a creature, so the magical creatures section! Because you know, they're REAL." Callie got told to be quiet again, to which she gave another apologetic grin in response. "Since they look so scary they have to be pretty dangerous right? I reckon we should start on the XXXX classifications." Once again Callie bounded forwards towards the shelves in question, assuming that Phel would follow behind. For once she didn't think to drag him along, something which the poor boy would likely be glad about. "Gosh and you call me the slow poke." Callie taunted as she started looking up and down the shelves and occasionally running her fingers across the spines of the books.

Callie's excitement was visible, not only to Phel, but also to the numerous other students who were not stopping themselves from watching the duo with some suspicious looks. It would be a literal miracle to find the monster they were looking for before being kicked out of the place - an inevitable outcome, it seemed to Phel. If the librarian didn't deal with them, the students around them would.

Callie accepted Phel's idea and rushed towards the magical creatures shelf, retaining from pulling the boy by the arm. He was quick to follow, and started having a look at the books' names. While the boy was someone who would often read, look for books by himself and express curiosity under many forms, he had never touched upon the subject of magical creatures - or even animals overall. While he tolerated their presence, he was not particularly fond of them, and most of the works present in front of him were unknown.

Knowing them would not have made a difference anyway, as they would not contain informations about Callie's invention.

Bending his neck to the left so his head could read the covers, he started looking for a word that would fit a bat-horse. Callie's idea made sense, as something that looked this terrifying could only be ranked in the top of the danger ladder. A few names passed in front of Phel's eyes. Yetis, thunderbirds, thestrals... all creatures that the boy had never heard of. He wanted to find a book that would inspire him something scary as well as treat of as many creatures as possible. Specific volumes were of no interest.

"Are you finding anything, Callie ?" the boy asked.

His eyes layed his attention on a massive book, whose cover was damaged by time. Its title read "Muggle Legends and Magical Creatures". He realised how Callie's inventivity could have been inspired by legends from her non-magical background - but he kept his reasoning for himself.

"Because I think I just did."

Phel carefully pulled the book out of the shelf and opened it, looking for anything that would be deemed worthy of attention.

For someone who grew up on a farm learning about different creatures came naturally for Callie, even if these particular animals were very different in comparison to cows. Lately the magical creatures section was something she found herself revisiting frequently although she'd yet to come across the creature she was hunting for. As she looked through the shelves Callie, for once, was silent and focused at the task at hand. In truth only part of her wanted to prove Phel wrong by now, especially after her conversation with Miranda. Perhaps she would miss the time where she was blissfully unaware of the specifics of the creatures but for now her curiosity outstripped everything. She simply had to confirm what Miranda had said about the creatures, even just seeing the words on a page would help everything make sense. Even if Callie secretly didn't want everything to make sense, ignorance is bliss as they say.

"Huh?" Callie looked up from her hunt and adjusted her glasses that were once again sitting strangely. Thankfully these days they were significantly less broken ever since Callie learned the repairing charm but that didn't stop the pesky things from moving. "Oh, how could I forget! I spoke to Miranda yesterday..she gave me a name! Gah, what did she say? Pestrals? No! Thestrals, apparently that's what they're called." Callie ventured over to stand beside Phel to inspect the book he'd unearthed, only to find herself thoroughly unamused by it's title. "Muggle Legends and Magical Creatures? They're not legends, Phel! They're thestrals! I'm trusting Miranda on this one, she knows a lot about all this magical creatures stuff." Callie then ventured back over to the shelves and continue her hunt with renewed determination.

Thestrals ?

It only took Phel seconds to remember where he had seen that word. One of the book covers. The answer was just next to them.

Getting those informations about Thestrals would mean, however, that Callie was right. Did Phel really want to recognise that ? Those monsters did exist in the end, and they were living around Hogwarts, ready to haunt Phel's usually peaceful dreams and disturb his long nights of star watching. What did they eat ? What did they sound like ? How did they come to existence, and how come Phel was unable to see them ? The second the boy would reveal there was a book about them, Callie would probably jump on the occasion to brag about the fact she was right and tease Phel about his lack of belief in her words. After a year by her side, he was starting to know rather well how she reacted to things, and it was very likely she would mock him until his death.

All those worries, however, only crossed Phel's mind for a second. The boy was not one to put his ego or pride after knowledge. He immediatly closed the book he was holding, not even reading beyond the first page, and put it aside. He stood up and took away the book on thestrals from the shelf, then handed it to Callie, with an honest smile.

"Here you go. Your creature, your memory, it's up to you to open it. Come on, read ! I want to know about them now."

The change in Phel's attitude towards the creatures was subtle but didn't go unnoticed by Callie. A much appreciated change in sentiment from doubting the validity of her claims to agreeing on the presence of the creature in her memories. However Callie didn't mention a single word on the matter as she didn't want to belittle Phel any further. While under normal circumstances the girl might've relished in proving the boy wrong, part of her didn't want the creatures to be real. She wanted the creatures to truly remain a figment of her wild imagination but it was becoming increasingly difficult to live in ignorance. "I swear, I have to do all the work around here!" Callie teased as she cracked open the book, any signs of her discomfort on the subject hidden beneath her cheery exterior.

"Thestrals.." The girl mumbled to herself as she sifted through the pages trying to find the general overview of the strange horses that lurked in her mind. Eventually Callie was greeted by a drawing of the creature which looked eerily similar to the same creatures she saw at the beginning of the year. You'd think she'd delight in the proven existence of the creatures but instead Callie remained silent, contemplating the harsh reality of the situation. "So..Miranda was right." Her tone seemed to imply a sense of dread, an odd state of affairs for someone who usually relished in the opportunity to prove Phel wrong. "Apparently they're seen as an omen of misfortune..seems a little harsh if you ask me." Callie lay the book down on the table to allow Phel to properly skim over the contents. She didn't exactly want to mention the whole thing about having to witness death to see the creatures out loud and instead let Phel read the information himself. That sort of subject wasn't something Callie encountered happily, especially in a rather busy library.

Phel raised his eyebrows with a grin when Callie teased him on doing all the work. It was probably just a way to thank him for the book - thanks that only Callie could pull out. She took the book and opened it, leaving Phel on his own. The boy stretched and held back a yawning. Was his job around the girl done now ? Naturally, he was still curious about finding what made these beasts so special, and so scary, and he wanted to hear the girl speaking about them; however, the exhaustion from his long day of class was now starting to kick in, and it would not take long before he would decide to go back to the Ravenclaw common room.

The sudden silence made the boy realise that they had succeed in not being kicked out by the librarians before they found the informations they had been looking for. An outstanding achievement, considering Callie's propensity to quickly spread mayhem wherever she went. It was a little surprising to consider that these informations about Thestrals were available to young people like the boy or the girl. And here, the animals would at best constitute nightmarish materials. Who knew what terrible secret was silently hiding in one of the books of the library, a secret that one day, might transform a student forever... Daydreaming again, Phel nearly forgot why he was there. Drawing back his attention on Callie, he asked her :

"Is there any drawing of them somewhere in that book ? Or a picture ? I'm not sure if it's a good idea... but I'm seriously curious. I wonder what a personified bad omen looks like."

He then added mischievously :

"Also, I'm pretty sure that something is going to happen to your stomach very soon. You stole my food this morning, then saw one of these... monsters. You might just have saved me from... say, food poisoning !"

Nightmares didn't really scare Callie, after all they weren't real but rather a concotion the brain decided to dream up. However reality was a different story. Reality could be harsh, brutal and terrifying - something which Callie found herself reminded of as she scanned the page. There was something about seeing all that she'd seen and heard written down which reallly hit home for Callie..something, scary. It wasn't until Phel started speaking again after what Callie assumed to be him zoning out to daydream again that she managed to gather her thoughts into something coherent. Well, coherent as a twelve year old who just discovered a brand new truth of the world could get.

"Is my stunning ability to describe things not good enough for you? My career as a story teller is ruined I tell you! Ruined!" Callie immediately retorted with a grin that hid the worry previously held on her face. Either Callie was spectacular at concealing her worry or there was something about Phel that helped Callie focus on the brighter side of life. Perhaps it was the fact it was so easy to tease and annoy the poor boy. "No? Fine! Fine, give me a moment..try not to daydream while I do all the work, Mr Atwood." She made sure to stick her tongue out at Phel before shifting the book to the side so he could properly assess the page. While it lacked an image Callie made up for this by sketching out what she had seen on the back of her notebook, assuming that the contents of the page would do the talking for her. In truth considering how clumsy Callie was her drawing was surprisingly detailed and didn't at all convey the usual degree of bufoonishness that surrounded the girl. "If you make fun of my drawing, I will not hesitate to whack you in the head I hope you know that." Callie offered with a bright smile, opting not to go into detail about the text so pubicly. Perhaps she'd open up to Phel about why she could see the creatures elsewhere but for Callie the library wasn't really a suitable venue to open up about her various issues. Besides even just thinking about the entire thing put a dampner on her mood that she wasn't entirely willing to entertain.

"Wait, what?" Callie questioned as Phel brought up the topic of food poisoning, which she immediately rewarded him for bringing up the subject with a light whack to the head. "Quit implying you poisoned me! You were too busy watching the ceiling to even notice me slipping some of your breakfast!" Callie let out a light laugh, clearly not taking his mild threat onboard. "Quit whining and read the page dummy." As she spoke Callie gestured to the book in front of them, urging Phel to read it's contents for himself.
