Ileen rubbed her eyes. She had been sitting in the library for hours and was doing her homework. As always, it had taken her forever to get Herbology and Potions done. It was not like she was bad in it, she just was not that motivated. She definitely prefered subjects like Charms and Transfiguration - subjects in which she could use her wand.
With a sigh she turned back to her half-finished Charms essay. A little later she put a final dot on the parchment so full of verve that she pierced the paper smoothly.
Now, only History of Magic as homework was still open. “I guess, I need another book for that one,” Ileen murmured and briefly scanned the clutter she had spread out on her table.
Books piled up in irregular piles, parchment rolls, some finished, some still empty, lay scattered on the table and her inkwell with feather stood threateningly crooked halfway up her diary, in which she had recorded her latest thoughts on Hogwarts. What a mess.
She would clean that up later.
The late afternoon sun painted golden patterns on the shiny wooden floor of the library as Ileen walked down the shelf rows with a wrinkled forehead. The dust floated glittering in the air and the smell of old books spread a pleasant and mysterious aroma.
The young slytherin peered into a dark, narrow corridor that ran parallel to the cold stone wall. She cringed involuntarily. She could well imagine that it could be very spooky here at night. But this corridor radiated a certain fascination through this gloominess, so Ileen hesitantly stepped into the shadows. Her gaze glided over the old spines of the books with golden lettering. After only a few steps she felt like she was in another world - and like someone was watching her!
She turned, but the corridor was empty. She listened. It was like a strange whisper floating in the air. Suddenly a few thick tomes swayed in the upper rows of shelves, pushed themselves slowly over the edge and fell down on the young Slytherin.

The only thing that was visible from where, mere moments ago, a desk had stood were enormous piles of book. It almost looked like a solemn tower in the midst of this lair of knowledge. What was unbeknownst to others was that this solemn tower wasn't as peaceful as one might think. Oh, no. Inside, hidden from sight, was a monster. Not just any kind of monster. No, the stuff of nightmares. This was the kind of monster that left unprovoked wouldn't harm anyone, but if it got rudely awoken this encounter would leave people scarred throughout their lives. Only a fool would dare to even consider to so rudely awaken a werewolf!
An echo of what could only be described as books losing the fight with gravity disturbed the hibernation of the creature. I'm awake!, Erik yelled out as he pulled his head up from his notes causing one of the notes to stick to his cheek because of the saliva he had lost whilst sleeping. What in the? The Slytherin slowly leaned on the hind legs of the chair as he tried to peer from behind the massive wall of books that hid his desk from sight. Intrigued by the sudden noise that had so abruptly awoken him the pureblood decided to go out on a little investigation.
After a while of finding his way through the labyrinth of bookshelves he had pinpointed the location. The scene that had unfolded before him made him laugh. Underneath a pile of ancient, dusty tomes a girl could be spotted. Well, well what do we have here?, Erik spoke. He couldn't help the fact his amusement could be heard in his voice. In front of him was a book that did not belong on these shelves. As he bent through his knees and picked it up, he riffled through some of the pages before he was content enough to stop at one particular page that had caught his eye. The blonde boy cleared his throat before he started reading it out loud as he casually leaned against a bookshelf. "I still don't know anyone in Slytherin. And I'm honestly not sure if I want to change that. A lot of them – like a horrifying number – are incredibly proud of their "pure blood" and everyone is talking about this stupid secret blossom ball all the time. Or quidditch. I have a feeling that Slytherin really does fulfill every cliché.", he paused a bit before continuing. Now, that would've hurt my feelings if I had any. He looked over at the girl buried beneath the old literature intently.

The heavy books rained down on Ileen and she raised her arms to protect her head. Painfully she was hit by the hard edges and went to the ground. Silently cursing, she fought herself into a sitting position and looked around. What was that?!
She looked back at her table, where the piles of books had also started to slide. The rumbling of the books on the floor echoed loudly through the almost deserted corridors. “Ouch.”
Before she could stand up again, a figure suddenly appeared around a bookshelf. Ileen froze when the blond boy spotted her. Although he couldn't have been much older than she was, he was quite tall and obviously amused to find her under a pile of books. Well, it must have looked pretty stupid. Immediately she felt the blood rush to her cheeks. She wasn't even clumsy. Why did this always have to happen to her?
“Well, well what do we have here?” His voice sounded as amused as he looked.
Ileen involuntarily shivered. Although she had done nothing wrong, she felt caught. Yeah, almost backed into a corner. This feeling was reinforced by his height and her sitting position.
This feeling of distress and embarrassment turned into incredulous shock when he knelt down and picked up something that looked like her diary. It had probably also slipped out of the other books. She couldn't believe it when he leisurely leafed through it, leaned against a bookshelf and read her last entry from it!
The anger sent feelings into her frozen body again. Hastily she dug herself out of the books, jumped on her legs and took a quick step towards the tall boy.
She angrily glared at him and tried to rip the book from his hand. Of course he was also a Slytherin! But she didn't care about that right now. Her rage made her forget all her restraint. “In any case, you have no feeling to get what’s privat and not of your business!”, she hissed and built her up before him to her still not particularly remarkable size.
The bright green eyes of the boy would probably have made her shiver normally, but not at this moment.
He had invaded her thoughts. The thoughts she had put down on paper. And that someone who openly advocated corresponding to these thoughts read them…

It had been almost left unnoticed, but still he noticed that the covered girl shivered as he had acknowledged her presence. Before he knew it the girl stood toe to toe with him. If looks could kill Erik wouldn't have just been merely dead, but erased from existence as well. The anger she felt was not only tangible in the air, but it seemed to waft in waves of her persona. Whilst she stared him down, she hastily gripped her diary from his hands. Her response to his earlier remark caused him to chuckle. As if she was acting on sheer instinct she seemed to make herself bigger. Like that would somehow make him run away in fear with his tail between his legs. This only caused him to laugh louder.

Once he arrived at the desk, he threw all of the books from the table onto the ground before he seated himself on the chair, rested his feet on the desk and let his fingers fold into one another behind his head before he continued. So, to answer your question. I actually don't have anything better to do as you woke me up with all your... Well, whatever it was that you were doing that caused all that noise. However, now I'm here. I'm Erik. Erik Tharaldson, last living heir of the pureblood line of Tharaldson. Tell me. What's your name? The werewolf looked her over one more time. For real though. Were you spying on me? A slight smile played around his lips as he intently watched her how she would talk her out of it.

Ileen snorted contemptuously. „I guess, you got something wrong there. You should have asked before you just read something that isn’t yours!”
Even though she would never admit it, she was kind of relieved, when he looked around and walked a few steps away from her. Although he had only laughed scornfully at her until now, his presence was threatening in its own way.
She watched him, the diary pressed to her chest like a shield, as he casually walked over to her desk... and just wiped her books and homework on the floor. What was wrong with this guy?!
As if the falling papers and books did not concern him at all, he sat down on her chair, put his feet on the table and crossed his arms behind his head. If she could, she would have knocked him off the chair.
It was the first time since like forever that she was angry enough to show her feelings and to speak to another person without any concerns what he might think of her. “What are you doing? You're really trying to piss me off, aren't you?!”
Fighting my inner enemies and finding people who will make me grow – sure, wise Sorting Head! Why had he sorted her into Slytherin? This guy was the first of her own house she was talking more than a few sentences to. And first thing he had done? Taken her diary. Wonderful! And he proclaimed to have no feelings. Great.
“Oh, sorry I disturbed your sleep!”, she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “I just thought I could walk around and smash something to the ground and see what I might wake up! My fault.” Ha. She hoped he had had a nightmare.
Oh well, as I thought. Another ‘I’m-so-proud-my-blood-is-pure’ kind of guy. Why was he still here? He seemed to enjoy getting on her nerves. Well, it worked. She was still pretty angry. “Last heir? Shouldn’t you be educated to be more polite then? Otherwise the bloodline might end with you!”
She gave him a very frowny look. “I’m Ileen Knight. Last heir of the pure blood family Clark and Knight, since this is so important obviously.” She imitated his tone of voice and made an exaggeratedly cynical curtsy. “What do you care?”
With pointed fingers she picked up her homework for potions, that had fortunately considered the fall, rolled it up with a sinister look and put it together with her diary in her bag. She was aware that the boy's gaze rested on her.
She couldn't believe what he was accusing her of. "Me? Spying on you?" She stared at him in disbelief. How arrogant could somene be? "Why would I do that? You just read my 'mind'. Why would I care? You seem to be exactly the kind of guy who I described there. Proud of beeing a pure-blood. As if it was your archievement." She threw a glowing glance at him. "You see? For that, I didn't even need to read your diary. I think it looks more like you're spying on me!"
She knew it wasn't wise to mess with an older student. But now that she was forced to reveal her thoughts, she couldn't stop.

Erik had to hold back a chuckle as she wailed to him about her diary. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that was private. My bad! Truly!, he faked for a couple of minutes how sorry he was and then replaced that hurt expression with a mischievous grin. As she went on to yell at him, he couldn't help himself any longer and let out a chuckle. I'm most certainly not trying! I am making you pissed off. You just now, showed me as much. Erik gave her a wink. As she gave him an apology for waking him up dripping with sarcasm a smile formed on his lips. It's okay, first year. I forgive you. You know why? Because I'm such a nice guy!, he let the sarcasm hang in the air before he continued. Erik laughed out loud at her remark about the bloodline ending with him and applauded her. That was a good one, alright! Would you look at us. We're already bonding. Isn't it exciting? I at least would think so. Of course I have manners. I just pick and choose when to show them. It seems like you were just in bad luck. Silent and wordlessly, he mouthed sorry at the brunette whilst shrugging.
As Ileen made a curtsy Erik quickly got up from his seat. When she turned around and was finally done picking up and putting away her stuff the boy took her hand and give the back of her hand a gentle kiss, all whilst remaining eye contact. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ileen., he sounded sincere. But I'm not going to call you Ileen. That's too long and too much effort. I'm going to call you... Erik started to press his finger against his lips as he tried to think of a good nickname. Leen!, he suddenly blurted out. Yup, that's going to be it. Do you mind if I call you that? The werewolf showed the palm of his hand to her as he tried to physically refrain her from talking. Don't answer that. I'm still going to call you Leen.
Ileen seemed to be baffled as she echoed what he just had said in disbelief. Now, now, Leen! That sounds a lot like an accusation, let alone an insult. I'm merely proud of my heritage. It is something to be proud about. There aren't many of us left, you know? When she glanced at him another smile appeared. Well, Leen, if I ever start writing down all my thoughts on paper you'll be the first to have a look. Deal? Erik gave her another wink.

She glared at him with anger. Did he really think he cloud just walk around and take everything he wanted? At least he didn’t try to come up with an honest excuse. His green eyes sparkled when he watched her and finally grinned.
“Seems you are gifted in that case. Good for you!” Annoyed by how good it worked on her, she thought of a way how to react properly, but she couldn’t help it. Well, he was kind of an idiot and obviously he had nothing better to do then to play his mean little games with her! She was pretty furious. And that he was kind of laughig at her made it even worse.
“Such a nice guy?” She tapped her chin with her fingers in an overly thoughtful manner. “Hm, why don't I buy that? Ah right!” To make up for the lost ground, she took an energetic step forward. “A nice guy would just help me to put the books back and he certainly wouldn’t add some to the floor from my desk.” She narrowed her eyes and glared at him again. “But thank you very much. As long as you forgive me, everything is just fine.”
Her heart was still beating wildly in her chest. Her gaze glanced briefly at him and then remained firmly fixed on his astonishing green eyes, which looked at her with a trace of mocking amusement. “Huh, thank you, I guess, that makes me something special. Or wait – probably you are the chosen one if you get the delight to see your good manners. Which I highly doubt to exist.”
He had gotten on his feet as quickly and smoothly as a cat waiting for its mouse. When he took her hand, kissed it and suddenly was acting like a gentleman, she flushed. Unable to break eye contact, she angrily clenched her teeth. He did this to mock her. For sure. What was this guy up to?
“Stop that. If you try to confuse me, it won’t work!” It worked pretty well. She tried to force her hand away from him. “And don’t give me stupid nicknames!”
Now that he was so close in front of her, she realized for the first time how tall he was and had to swallow. She felt cornered and knew no way out of this situation herself. Even though she was still angry, his action had upset her so much that she felt insecure. But there was no way she would let him notice that. It was probably exactly what he was up to.
“Proud heir, huh?” she wanted to sound mocking, but her voice was a little shaky. “I might also be the last pureblood Knight. But that’s not my achievement, right? This is maybe just the case because some parts of my family are socially degenerated.”
Still flushed with anger and confusion, she looked at the older student. There was something creepy about him, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

The banter between the two of them just on going. It was much like fencing. Each parrying the others jabs time and time again. They worked in tandem. Erik loved every minute of it. This was his forte. He excelled in it and it seemed he had found a worthy opponent. It's merely one of the plenitude of charming characteristics I posses, but don't fret! If, you stick around long enough, I'm sure you'll get to see them all. When she faked about thinking if he was really such a nice guy he was thoroughly amused. Before he knew it she had gotten a lot closer. He smiled at her. I'm pretty sure you got it covered though. After all, I was merely following your example. Seeing as you had thrown the books from their shelves. He pointed at the books littering the floor. Well, that and the fact that I'm a tool., he said it with a playful tone, so she would know he didn't mean actually any of it besides what he had said about himself. No need to thank me. The pleasure is all mine.
As she looked him in the eyes, she told him she doubted the very existence of his good manners. As he then followed up with kissing her hand and such she accused him of trying to confuse her. So, how's that for manners? He grinned at her that cheeky grin from earlier. Hey, now! I proof to you I have indeed some type of manners and then you say I need to stop it. I can't seem to be able to win with you. Can I? And it's not stupid! It's your new name, Leen. Don't fight it. Just embrace it. As Ileen kept mocking him Erik shook his head in amusement. It's an achievement, alright. Where was it written you had to be responsible for every single achievement? Suddenly the werewolf became a lot more serious. To be honest, not every family makes the choice to not continue their line. Sometimes just... Erik was looking for words. Bad luck happens. He turned his back towards her as he sat down at the desk again looking sombre. After sitting there for a couple of minutes he shook his head again and smiled at her. But let's not dwell on that.

Ileen impatiently stroked one of her brown strands from her eyes and crossed her arms. He really seemed to enjoy to make her uncomfortable. “Plenitude of charming characteristics?”, she recalled and mockingly raised an eyebrow. She was especially proud that she could do that. She had practiced this for a long time. “How long would I have to stick around for that pleasure?” She snorted and gestured to the books on the floor. "And is there some sort of switch for this so that you will follow my example once again?"
Annoyed, she looked up to the shelf from which the books had fallen. She wouldn't reach it and - no chance - she wouldn't expose herself and climb on a table in front of this guy.
“Hmpf. How generous of you”, she muttered and impatiently began pounding book dust off her robe.
Still red in the face she gasped indignantly. “That’s just - stop that. Your manners may fit another century. And they only count as good if the intention behind them is the right one!”, she tried to cover up her embarrassment. “You're just trying to put me in an awkward position!” She knew that her eyes and cheeks spoke volumes. It worked perfectly and she hated it.
“And sure - it’s just appropriate that someone who read my diary has an extra name for me. And if you want to win me over - a fact that I highly doubt by the way - you should probably just…” She ran out of the right words. “Well, it won’t work anyways!”, she ended kind of lame, still trying to sound defiantly.
Her eyes turned dark when he talked about the blood status. “Well, I guess there are good and bad things we are not responsible for which are affecting our life anyways.” She felt the mood tilt as the tall blond boy sat down on the desk again with a closed expression. Was this another move to make her struggle? To scare her?
Worried, she shifted her weight from one foot to the other and tried to figure him out. “Are you trying to scare me off? Like you are a bad guy with a dark past?” She watched him tensely. “No worries. I’m already convinced. And I’m not afraid of you!” Well, maybe a bit.

Ileen seemed to be driven to the defensive side. He could tell by her crossing her arms in front of her body. She went on to mock him at his remark about his charming persona. Well, you haven't been nearly long enough around to see them all! As we have just met and it differs with each person I meet. The werewolf started to think dramatically long as he tapped his finger against his lips. Now that I think of it. You'll have to wait for a very long time. Considering you haven't proved yourself worthy of them. Ooooh! Burn! He chuckled at his own remark. Oh, you want me to follow your example? By all means show me how it's done. This will be fun to watch. Ileen looked over at the shelf the books had started falling from before she started to dust herself off. That's me alright! I'm a saint. Always helping those in need.
Ileen's face turned as red as a tomato before she gasped and started to berate him, but despite all of that her body told him that his good manners had definitely some effect on her. Oh, is that so? Well, then. With that, he stood up and stepped a little closer to her with his hands in his pockets. Why don't you look me in the eye then and tell me you weren't in the slightest flattered. He couldn't help, but grin at her. Got you now., he thought to himself.
My bad! I thought I already won you over a few minutes ago. You know. The moment I stepped in here. He flashed a smile at her. It was cute how she tried to explain to him how to exactly win her over, but then stopped dead in her tracks the moment she realised she slipped up. She liked him. Well, Leen. How do I exactly win you over? I'm dying to hear.
Still seated at his desk, he looked back at her as he shook his head in amusement. I'm not trying to scare you off. If, I would be doing that you can count on the fact that you would know. Trust me on that. What if I was a bad guy with a dark past? As she hastily added she already knew he was a bad guy he just laughed out loud. Caught me red handed! Who said you should be scared of me?
