The ambient from walking the busy corridors of Hogwarts to entering the quiet library contrasted one another. At first, it was all loud chatter and hurried footsteps as the students were excited to finally return to their common rooms and get ready for the evening. Euphaustus was pretty sure he witnessed a student trying to cast a spell on a tree on his way towards the land of books. But once he had actually arrived, the noise outside vanished into thin air, and the scratching of quills against pieces of parchment, the thudding of heavy, thick books shutting close, or the whispers exchanged between the few students present were the only things capable of being heard.
The Hufflepuff awkwardly walked towards an empty desk that sat in front of a large, towering bookshelf. A couple of books floated from one side to another right in front of him. He put his tattered backpack on the surface and sat down. Next to him was a much older boy with blue robes, and the Ravenclaw sigil embroided on his chest. His hair was a bright flaming orange, that could be probably be spotted from miles away. The grumpy sniff he released wasn’t a friendly one, but Euphaustus returned the reaction with a cheeky smile; stating that he had just arrived.
Hello, I’m here, sorry not sorry.
Then the Ravenclaw left.
The black-haired lad shrugged the occurrence off as he couldn’t be bothered, and instead continued to focus on what he came for.
Valentine’s day was everyone’s favourite day. It didn’t only represent love and friendships or gifting heart-shaped chocolate with strawberry flavouring and red blooming flowers, but also the fact that Spring was on its way too. With such festivities giving fruit to so many cheerful things, it felt only fitting to spread some love of his own. Hence why the boy had just whipped out pink cards with bright, crimson red hearts drawn on most of them.
However, the girl he had in mind was rather unique. She wasn’t any simple girl that attended the same classes Euphaustus did. She didn’t have yellow robes like his. She was older than probably every living being residing in the castle.
Her name was Moaning Myrtle. And she was everyone’s dream crush.
Euphaustus, of course, had no real feelings for the ghost. It was just a little funny thing he came up with the night before while trying to sleep. Knowing she was one to sneak on boys and make fun of girls, it made perfect sense.
In front of him laid a number of pink cards, varying from baby to hot. White envelopes with a pink, heart seal, a small jar of black ink, and of course, a quill. He cracked his pale hands, stretching them out, and started squeezing the black liquid against one of the cards.

Love Letters

Lilia had never really understood the prospect of love; of course she loved her parents but that was more because she had known them all her life. She wasn’t sure what true love with another person whether it be male or female felt like. She had heard that it made the lover feel all warm inside but that only made Lilia think of a furnace and she wasn’t sure how that was meant to be considered pleasant. Another analogy she had heard about love was that it made someone forever young. Immortality and the issues of death had never really bothered Lilia, she believed in fate and if she was meant to live for 70 years then she would live for 70 years. If she were completely honest, she wasn’t sure she would even like to live forever, it must get boring after you’ve done everything you wanted. It’s not like new cities get created everyday or like Honeydukes release new candy. Yes, Lilia decided, living forever would be boring.
Her confusion over love and its power didn’t mean she didn’t enjoy Valentine’s day. Whilst she didn’t have anyone in particular to spend it with, she still was 11 years old. The castle had been decorated in a romantic fashion for the so-called ‘holiday’. Heart shaped banners flew across the Great Hall, all the food was red or pink and a vast majority were wearing some kind of associated love color. Lilia found the decorations pretty for a few hours but now her head hurts just looking at them, she saw enough red everyday due to her being in Gryffindor. Lilia thought to herself that she would much rather enjoy the idea that with Valentine’s came a due date for spring. Soon flowers would be blooming all over Hogwarts and that idea excited Lilia greatly, she had always loved nature and she had heard that Hogwarts did spring best.
With the unattractive thought of seeing more red or pink playing on the back of her mind, Lilia decided to venture to the library. She hadn’t been there often, never really seeing the enjoyment as whilst she did enjoy reading and learning, she would much rather do her studies from the comfort of her bed or the common room sofas. However, she figured that the library would be relatively quiet as everyone was out on Valentine’s festivities, she also guessed that there would be less of a color scheme which did excite her. Lilia trudged from the 5th floor Gryffindor common room down to the library, sighing every time she saw some other loved-up couple. It wasn’t like she didn’t like love, it was more that it had become sickening.
Luckily for her the library was pretty empty and void of frivolous decorations. She looked for a place to sit down but her eyes were drawn to a boy sitting by himself with what looked like an array of letters on the table. Intrigued, Lilia looked a little closer, she could tell he was wearing yellow robes and she guessed he was a first year albeit quite a tall one. What really made him stand out was his ebony black hair contrasting his rather pale skin giving off an almost ghostly aura. Lilia was admittedly quite bored and she wanted to know more people from other classes so she decided to go over and talk to the boy.
Lilia was a bit shocked how he barely even noticed her coming, he must have been really into his work. Yet, Lilia also got the impression that he didn’t want to be disturbed while doing whatever it was. Lilia thought it would be funny to interrupt the boy, the worse that would happen is that he left her, so the young Gryffindor went up close to the boy. Peering over his shoulder she took a close look at his desk (surely he realized she was there by now). On the table were an array of cards of different shades of pink and red, Lilia rolled her eyes, she didn’t think he would be the lovey type. She quickly took a look at what he was writing, she caught a glimpse of a name; Myrtle. Having enough of the boy seemingly ignoring her, she sat into the empty chair next to him with a flop; “Who’s Myrtle”. She realized she never said her name and she also realized that she had probably invaded his personal space 400 times already but it was too late. Go big or go home was quickly becoming Lilia’s motto and it wasn’t necessarily for the better.Colorcode: #333f52
