The Calling SOLO

It had been an exciting adventure at first. He had one day decided he would go into the library and somply explore. The room itself seemed as if it was set for a mystery novel at all times. The towering bookshelves made it seem there were infinite books that could be found, and it was almost as if new ones were going in and out every day. Some would contain notes and were worn and dusty, and others were soon about to be set out on that past.

As it was March, many upper-classmen were preparing for OWLS, so lots of books of the much more complicated parts of classes had been taken out at the time; however, that did not bother Ross. At first he had come into the library for a good mystery novel, but as he had explored he found the section about charms. The books all had complicated spells he had not seen in them before, and they all fascinated him. Even so, he never took one out of the room. It felt rude.

The next day, he came back. He came back to look at the charms books. He read a new page, but then went back to his dorm once more. Little did he realize, this would become much less of an adventure and more of a habit. This proceeded to happen day after day. He would read parts of a book a day, until suddenly he hit a dead end.

That was today.

Ross looked through the shelves, anxiously. Sure he could just reread another section of the first year books, but it just did not feel right. He rubbed his hand over the books, looking for any with a title he did not recognize. His finger dipped in between each book, and if he were to look at it he would notice the swarm of dust that had caked his finger. It was not until he felt a pause in the consistent dips did he stop.

Crammed between two large books was a small journal. It seemed nearly flattened, and it was easy to miss. From the side it could be seen there were many notes sticking out of it. Out of pure curiosity, Ross pried the book out of its little Nook.

Ross gasped as it finally made its way into his hands. The book itself had a dull green cover. There was nothing written on the front, but there was clearly something inside. Ross, amazed, opened to the first page.

Inside in neat handwriting was Four words

Property of Knox Stephens

Ross' eyes lit up and his heart beat quickened. This guy had the same last name as him. That was amazing to him. Someone who he assumed was some sort of genius at Hogwarts shared his last name. Underneath that writing there was the dates.

1964 - 1971

Looking over it, the boy turned the page only to find notes. The notes were all so familiar, yet so distant. They were of charms he had already learned, yet they were much more interesting somehow. He captured everything he needed to do outside of a lesson into one simple page for each. He flipped page through page until he hit second year.

Ross wanted this book, and it seemed it was the only copy.

Looking towards the librarian who seemed clearly distracted, Ross slowly found himself closing the book. He directed his direction to the door, in which he pretended to casually walk there.

He would have a lot of fun with this book.
