Trust Is A Fragile Thing
Interacting with @Elena Jangleton
Not long after Elena and Adlai’s talk at dinner about visiting the library they made plans.
Adlai had surprisingly got there early. She stood by the library door waiting for Elena. In her arms were a couple of books she needed to return. She had borrowed a few them for an assignment, the others were just for fun or the help educate herself on wizard culture. After all, chocolate frogs can’t surprise her every time. Many times before she’s considered having a conversation with one of paintings...that is if that could talk. She has seen them move before.
Today she had planned on telling Elena something, something she had only told two other people, one of them someone she was not entirely sure she could trust...at least not yet.
Even though Elena and her had only known one another for a short time Adlai felt completely comfortable with her and felt as though she could open up to her. Which is what she needed right now.
She was still in her uniform as classes had just ended and she found no use in changing since they would just be talking. The thought’s of what Elena’s react could be crept into her mind. This panic happened with Virgil and Flash too.

Elene traversed through the moving staircases as she sought her way to the library. Hogwarts really needed to invest into some normal staircases that didn't point in all sorts of directions. Granted, it was a school of magic but that didn't mean you had to enchant every little inch of the castle. She passed by a few portraits, one who seemed throughly offended she didn't stop for a game of Exploding Snap as she hurried down the corridor. She wasn't late per say but the time it took to get from the fifth floor where the Gryffindor common room was located all the way down to the library was that swift. The two girls had made plans to revel into whatever secrets the library held, most people would shrink at the idea of being around books and things of an academic nature but they were not most people.
The ground floor greeted her as she began to recgonize all the familiar symptoms of an library and Adlai who stood outside waiting patiently. "Adlai, hey! Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long!" She gestured at the books Adlai had piled up in her arms."I see you've been busy.""She said smiling. The process of returning books could be quite the hassle seeing as the librarian was quite..protective of the books in a sense. If even a small stain was found, there would be hell to pay. It was the same procedure time after time and they never seemed to get nicer..or meaner for that matter."So, you ready?"She asked nodding at the entrance to the library.

”As I’ll ever be.” Adlai said as she turned around and opened the library door. A few people sat quietly as they read their books and hotter down notes. Others roamed the endless rows of book cases. It was rather peaceful.
Walking over to the front desk of the library Adlai returned the books she had borrowed and then wandered with Elena. Her eyes did make their way to the restricted section every once and a while but she wasn’t going to take any chances.
Whispering she asked Elena, “Is it ok if I tell you something?”
She dragged her pointer finger across the spines of the books they passed before stopping at one. Pulling it out she turned the book in her hands to see the cover.
Quidditch Through The Ages, the title read. Adlai curiously turned through some of the pages, skimming the lines to see if she would find it interesting and want to check it out.
Sadly she put the book back in the shelf only to whisper to Elena again. “If I do tell you this you have to promise me that you won’t tell anyone else. Ok?” Though she trusted Elena, she wanted to make sure that her secret would be safe.

They entered and were greeted by the rows and rows of bookshelves that littered the room. Shelves of books from everything you ever wanted to know about Exploding Snap to things such as the origins of wandless magic. It was quite the spectacle and one had to appreciate how extensive the resources were that were available to the students here though many of them opted not use them. She could name a few names off the top of her head, faces coming to mind. They stopped by the front desk as the libarian went over the grueling inspection of the precious books befoerr the girls were allowed to proceed.
She eyed the title Adlai had picked out as they stopped by some shelves nodding at her choice. 'Quidditch, huh, maybe I'm ru-"She stopped as the girl's voice dropped to a whisper as Elena looked at her nodding. "You know you can tell me anything." Whatever it was, it had to be serious judging from the way Adlai had brought it and she suspected the real reason was not to dig through books but to discuss this given empty the library could be at times. Besides, it's not like she had anyone worth to tell secrets to and it would not benfefit her in any way whatsoever. "Your secret is safe with me, that much I can promise you."
She said staring at the Hufflepuff with steady eyes as she spoke. "So, what is it?" At this point, she was expecting anything in this school riddled with all sorts of magic. Lots of things tended to happen here and some of those things..were interesting in nature. In her first year alone, the run-in with the creeps at the Blossomball, and then this year, the total wreck of the Headmaster's office..she didn't know if there could be any more surprises. For once, she hoped it was a positive one as she stepped a bit closer to lend an ear.

Taking a breathe she began to tell Elena what she had been meaning to tell her. “I hear things, thing’s that aren’t normal. A hiss of a voice that says my name over and over.” She told her.
“Flash, the boy I was working on the astronomy project with has offered to go with me to find where these voices are coming from. I wanted to ask you if you’d come with me too.”
She bowed her heads and allowed her fingers to twist the extra fabric of her hijab. “But if you want to I understand this is a lot that I’m springing onto you and if you think I’m crazy now I get that. I thought I was too. But apparently I’m not the only one hearing these voices...I just don’t want to be left in the dark anymore. If they mean something I want to know what.”
Adlai hadn’t been so serious about something in her life. She had never been this serious with tennis or gymnastics, which says something, I promise you. Thus, now she waited anxiously on her friends reply.
With only the faint hushing sounds of the librarian filling the now awkward silence that has fallen around them.
OOC: Sorry for the late reply, things have been hectic for me IRl.

As she began to talk, Elena began to see the serious side of her friend. A side most people took on when they really were protective of something. The sort of protectiveness that they would..do things to ensure whatever it was they were guarding didn't make it to unwanted territory. That was the vibe the Gryffindor was getting and the thing was..she totally understood Voices..hissing..having grown up with parents who..for lack of a better word..dabbled in the Dark Arts, it was not uncommon for her. She cast a glance down at the skull engraved pearl necklace she wore. That was another story altogether for another time. "You're not crazy."She simply replied looking at the hijab-clad student dead in the eyes. "You're in a world of magic and among people of..uncommon abilites per say..so the things you never imagined would be possible could be possible here. Some of them good. some of them bad."
Elena couldn't chalk down what exactly Adlai was expereincing but she had a hunch. Parseltonuge? Some sort of Occulumency attack? That required some very advanced magic though but whatever it was, to hear certain voices or experience things in your head that were not of your own will was..concerning at the very least. "Trust me, you're not the only crazy one around here. I've only been here for a year and halfish and there is still a lot of secrets floating around that the higher-ups don't tell us." The recent disappearance of the Headmaster was one thing, she had seen that office. It certainly didn't look like Headmaster Lear had gone off on a vacatin trip.
"Yes, I'll go with you. Help you sort this all out because that's what friends are for." The mention of another person roused her curosity as well. Flash, did she say? It was a name she had not heard before so Elena presumed she hadn't met the individual. She generally was good at putting names to faces. There was only one pressing question Elena had to ask her Hufflepuff counterpart and she had a feeling she wasn't going to like the answer. "So, you want to find out where these voices are coming from? Do you have an general idea of where to start?"She asked and waited. No, things like this required them to dig deeper and poke their noses into places that normal students should stray away from. But Elena Jangleton was not any normal person, at least not according to her family.

“I do. I’ve tried to follow them once before. Flash and I are going to meet outside the potions classroom.” She says.
“If it’s something that’s dangerous or if I get the slightest feeling that something isn’t right I’m leaving and going to one of the professors. I don’t want anyone to get hurt.” Adlai had been anxious the whole time she had been taking to Elena. But the anxiety that awaited her later this evening would be far worse and she knew it.
“I don’t want to get involved in anything bad, you know?” She asks Elena giving a sigh. “Is it bad...that sometimes I regret coming here?”
Adlai had to overcome cultural differences before as she moved from Iceland to Wales when she was younger than she is now. However, at least then she had a few things in common with the kids around her. Here kids spoke of how their parents worked for the magical ministry, chocolate frogs, and quidditch. All things she didn’t understand.
Is this how mom felt when she left Afghanistan?- she asked herself. At least mom found dad right? She had someone to help her, and so do I, right? Adlai gives Elena a meek smile. “Well, we better be on our way, don’t want to look like we’re loitering, do we?”

Elena had a bad feeling about this, she was just getting a vibe but she wasn't one to leave others outto dry. If Adlai needed clarity and resolution on the matter, she would help and besides, sometimes in situations like this, you really weren't left with any options. At least they weren't starting out anywhere mildly dangerous, the potions classroom seemed like a safe enough spot. What other secrets lay in the dungeons waiting to consume, Elena rather not find out but she had a feeling they might. "Sounds like a plan, we might have to explain this one to the Professors if we somehow wind up in a crazy situation." What exactly might happen, the Gryffindor didn't know but from her experiences, she wouldn't be in the slightest surprised if they encountered some super evil monster or something given the fair share of things she had seen at Hogwarts.
"Hey,hey!"She tapped the tableto get Adlai's attention as she sighed a bit, the sentiment about regretting Hogwarts was a relatable one enough but it never did good to fight a situation you couldn't change..there was some good in everything."You have me, right? You know, at first, I didn't even know if coming to Hogwarts was the right choice for me. I was a loner, didn't know anyone but all you gotta do is find your circle of friends and you'll be alright. It doesn't matter who they are, just a group of people you can trust on and believe me on this, your time here will be a lot more enjoyable."That was a fact she had confirmed for herself. Being around people, she had been forced to cast aside her shy side and open up a bit, to mingle though not everyone shared the same views, it forced people to develop a more..attentive personality and that in her opinion was a good thing.
Elena nodded gesturing for Adlai to lead the way. "After you, you're the boss."She said grinning a bit to put the girl at ease. They were gonna need all the smiles and cheerfulness they got before roaming into the pit of darkness and despair or wherever it was the fateful voices guided the Hufflepuff."If we run into any spooky, scary, monsters, I'll hex them."Big words for the second year but it was more of a calming method, to assure Adlai she'd be just fine. Elena was not sure what to expect and that was the scariest part about it all. Walking into something that you knew nothing about, sometimes a good thing, sometimes not. It all depended on what they did and how they acted.
