Extra, Extra Studying PV Lauren Closed

Lauren practically stumbled into the library. She had been meaning to make her way there but she hadn't had the time or really urge to come into the library yet so this was her first time. She really needed to do her Transfiguration paper which was due in a few days but when she finally took in her surroundings her jaw practically hit the floor.

Looking around she could see what must be thousands if not millions of books. Some were sat on bookshelves, others were flying about the massive hall she was stood in. She was on the first of what looked like three floors of just books. Between the bookshelves were a few tables and a window letting a little bit of extra light in. The entire place was breathtaking.

The large hall had a warmth too it. The desks and chair all had a cosy aesthetic to them. Lauren could really see herself writing three paged papers and studying the history of magic, comfortably, in this place.

Walking along the shelves Lauren took note of all the different sections and names. She thought about how she was soon going to have to be able to navigate this maze of knowledge to help her in her studies. After a few minutes of wandering, Lauren realized she had no idea how to get back to the entrance of the library. She looked around and eventually spotted a lone Ravenclaw, browsing through the shelves.
Lauren figured it might be worth asking the girl for either some help finding the Transfiguration section or a way out of the confusing mess of books.

"Um, excuse me," Lauren said approaching the girl.

Miranda vaguely heard someone talking, but it still took her a moment to lift her head and look around. “Oh, hello,” she said with a smile when she finally saw the source.

The speaker was a girl with grayish-blue eyes and brown hair that looked to be a year younger than Miranda. Her robes marked her quite obviously as a Hufflepuff student, which was a nice difference from the usual crowd of fellow Ravenclaws that mobbed the library. If one spent time walking around, they'd no doubt see many students in the telltale blue robes, with possibly a few emerald-robed ones as well. Members of the houses of the Badger and Lion were a bit rarer, although still sometimes spotted. Miranda would know, after all, considering the amount of time she spent wandering the shelves.

"Do you need something?" she continued, tucking the Transfiguration book under her arm. "I can probably help you find some books...if that's what you want?" It hadn't taken Miranda long to memorize the layout of the library, and she now knew where the basic books on many subjects were. Besides, as a second year, it was her responsibility to help any first years she came across. That was what experience was for, after all - helping those who had less.

It took a second, but the girl in the blue robes finally turned to look up at Lauren. “Oh, hello,” the girl said smiling at her.
'ok good' Lauren thought, 'she seems friendly'

"Do you need something?" the girl spoke again and shifted the book that was in her arms a little "I can probably help you find some books...if that's what you want?"

"That would be great actually, I am completely lost at this point," Lauren responded with a slight laugh.
"If you could help me find the Transfiguration section or even the entrance to this place that would be fantastic." She continued. "This is my first time in the library. I never realized how much of a labyrinth this place would be. If I did I would have left a trail of breadcrumbs for myself." Lauren couldn't help but chuckle again.

For some reason, Lauren all of a sudden felt quite shy around this Ravenclaw girl. She hopes shes not bothering the girl too much by asking to be shown around a little. She looks really friendly but in her crystal blue eyes, Lauren can see a more fiery side to her. She has a feeling she was going to get on just fine with this girl.
"Oh, and my name is Lauren, by the way. Lauren Stonewood." She said reaching out her hand to shake.

"The Transfiguration section is right over here," Miranda replied, gesturing at a long row a few feet away. "Don't worry about not finding it, though. The library is big enough for anyone to get turned around in if they're not paying proper attention." She glanced up at the ceiling, then some nearby shelves, as if comparing her position to some kind of mental map - which was actually exactly what she was doing. "And the exit's that way." Miranda pointed toward the northern wall, which was mostly obscured by tall shelves from their vantage.

When Miranda herself had first gone to the library, she'd gotten herself quite lost after spending some time talking to a few other students. After that, she'd made sure to be careful the whole time, even when chatting with friends. Finding out that you were lost was never a nice experience. It was best to prevent it as much as you could.

Suddenly the other girl stuck out her hand in greeting, and introduced herself as Lauren Stonewood. "Oh, I'm Miranda," Miranda replied with a grin, reaching over to shake her hand. "A Ravenclaw, if you haven't already guessed." She gestured at her navy robes, then at the thick book she held.

"Oh, I'm Miranda," The kind girl said with a smile. "A Ravenclaw, if you haven't already guessed."

Lauren eagerly shook Miranda's hand before staring in amazement that this girl had managed to memorize the different shelves in the library.
"Yes, I may have guessed that you were a Ravenclaw," Lauren says before saying, "I haven't come across many Ravenclaws yet. In fact, you're my first one!" She says enthusiastically and perhaps a little too loudly.

She looks around and winces at some of the exasperated looks she was getting from a few nearby students. She can feel their eyes burning into her but she stands a little straighter and smooths out her robes. She then glares at a few of them before she rolls her eyes and whisper-yells to them, "Sorry". They all seem to go back to what they were doing, forgetting the outburst.

Lauren turns back to Miranda hoping she hasn't scared the girl off yet. She still had books to find and Merlin knows shes going to need all the help she can get.
"So uhh," Lauren clears her throat and cratches the back of her neck with one hand before asking, "I hate to bother you any further, but could you maybe help me find this Transfiguration book?"
Lauren holds out a piece of parchment with the name of the book she needs, scrawled on it.

"Well, I guess it's up to me to represent my house for you, then," Miranda replied with a smile after Lauren had apologized to several affronted-looking students. She didn't blame the first-year for her accidental voice-raising, since she herself had been the victim of such an outburst more than once. Some books, and many other things, simply deserved the excitement. There was nothing you could do to stop it.

Miranda glanced down at the scrap of paper Lauren had handed her, then glanced around. "Let's see. Transfiguration books are generally kept over there." She gestured in the direction she was speaking of. "I don't know exactly where to find this book, but I can help you check the area. Two people looking should make it pass faster..."

She handed the slip of paper back to the other girl, then headed in the direction she'd indicated. The Transfiguration section was quite daunting, even for someone who avidly loved reading. Most of the areas on school subjects were like that, but Transfiguration was even more so. So many people had spent their entire lives studying the subject and how it worked, even going so far as to write entire books about how it was similar to the muggle "physics". Fascinating, perhaps, but not exactly something Miranda would want to spend years working on.

"I don't know exactly where to find this book, but I can help you check the area. Two people looking should make it pass faster..." Miranda handed Lauren back the slip of paper before walking off towards a rather large shelf of books.

"Thanks again for helping me with this" Lauren says to the girl once she's caught up to her. She hopes her gratitude is adequately conveyed in her words.
When they reach the correct shelf they start looking through all of the books to try and find the correct one. Some of the books were dauntingly thick. There were all sorts of colours amongst the shelf as well. It made the books look quite beautiful and pleasing to see. She supposes that's the best way to get someone to read, make it look aesthetically pleasing.

"Well damn, I hope I don't have to read through all of these." Lauren joked as she picked up a particularly heavy one grimacing at the thought of it.

As Lauren browsed some more she found a book titled, 'When It All Goes Wrong: A Guide to Transfiguration Repair.' She cracked the book open to a random page to find a rather gruesome picture of a very painful looking transfiguration accident.

"Oh god, no, please, no." Lauren yelps as she shuts the book abruptly. "They aren't serious about this kind of stuff being possible are they?" She asked although she's not sure she wants to know the answer.

"No problem," Miranda replied with a smile, her eyes still scanning the book spines as she spoke. No sign of the book yet...but it shouldn't take too long, unless someone had already signed it out. She brushed her fingers along them as she read, her eyes tracing the titles. A small smile flickered across her face.

At Lauren's words, she glanced over, and her smile widened. "It doesn't look that bad," Miranda said, her expression melting into a blank mask, although if anyone looked closely enough they could see her eyes sparkling with amusement. "A bit of light reading, that's all." She found it entertaining to overplay the Ravenclaw book-loving personality, just to see the different reactions. Her empty expression lasted another moment before she broke into a wide grin. "Just kidding. That's actually pretty big, and with luck, you won't have to. Those are just there for people who want extra information outside of lessons."

Miranda looked over Lauren's shoulder as she opened a book and studied the picture, which was a rather gruesome image of a person with some kind of Transfiguration injury. She'd seen something like that in one of her classes on the subject, when they'd been learning about possible problems that could occur from accidents. It was kind of horrifying, and made the majority of the students behave to prevent that from happening to them.

"I'm afraid they are. But that only ever happens if you mess up a major spell. The small stuff first years start off with can only ever end up with easily fixable problems. Nothing to worry about."

"Thank Merlin," Lauren mutters before placing the book back on the shelf.

As they continue to look for the book Lauren decides to try and get to know the girl a bit better. She figures that if the girl is willing to help her she could be a good friend to have. Lauren hasn't made too many friends yet at Hogwarts and really wanted to start to get to know people. Lauren also figured it would be good to have a friend who had higher intelligence than her own to help keep her out of trouble and maybe go to for advice from time to time. Lauren was smart but she could be really dumb at times.

"So what brings you to the library today? Homework?" She figured it was a good question to start with. She didn't want to make the girl uncomfortable or feel like she had to talk to her. Although the question was cringingly similar to 'you come here often' and Lauren mentally facepalmed as she realized this. 'Oh god, that sounded so much better in my head' Lauren thinks to herself.
Lauren needed to get better at talking to people.
