Last Minute Invitation PV Alina Rosier

Setting off to find @Alina Rosier

Girls liked dances, didn't they?

He needed something to make it up to her. With a sigh, he shoved his homework aside, earning a "are you sure about that decision?" sort of look from a fellow Hufflepuff at the common room table.

The fact of the matter was, Alina didn't have to help him the dumb pixies. They had been complete strangers, she could've just run off with the rest of the students. But she'd stayed. Clear up until Professor Browne's office.

He wanted to make it up, but he didn't know her well enough yet to know what she liked, other than books. Still, what good was saving her a trip to the library? It'd be like kindly offering to eat someone's ice cream. And then today when she'd greeted him in passing, he'd been reminded of how put together and proper she could be.

He'd realized that they'd done the messy, almost-get-yourself-killed stuff. Maybe he could make up for it by doing the nice, special event stuff. And he was almost certain, from the few other casual conversations they'd had, that she hadn't been asked yet. Neither blossoms or balls were typically his thing, but it seemed like just about anything could be fun with his new friend.

Clifton glanced over at the overly-gushy invitation he'd seen before and sighed. Did he even have anything to wear? The dance was literally tonight. He wondered if the short notice just make her uncomfortable.

He figured there was really only one way to find out. The worst she could say was no. Mind made up, he stretched his arms and then got up from the table. He grabbed the robe he was probably supposed to be wearing, gathered his things, and left the common room for the library. It was his best bet of where she would be.

Of course, it wasn't until he'd stepped into the hushed, dusty air of old books that he realized he didn't know what he would say.

Haha, Does he really want to with this temper of hers? - With @Clifton Troublefield

"No, no. Absolutely NO. Don't even try and give me that,"
she snapped at another first year who happened to be a Ravenclaw. The boy looked terrified as she spoke up and the few patrons of the library all looked to stare at her and whispered out a very loud shhhhhhhhhh almost in unison.

She paid no mind. "You're just as bad as the Professor! Maybe even worse! Can that even be possible at this rate?" She shoved the stack of books at the table towards the boy and began to stuff her things into her bag. "Get a tutor, they say. It'll do you good, they said. It will HELP YOU UNDERSTAND! Lies. All lies!"

Okay, so it wasn't the best light to see her in but it was one aspect to Alina Rosier's personality - she was sometimes a bit quick-tempered. Her failing grade in Transfigurations and her lack of being able to understand it was making her grow frustrated with this so called tutor of hers. "You SICKEN me," she scowled, throwing her bag over her shoulder and marching toward the library door.

It was she saw the familiar face of Clifton Troublefield and felt rather embarrassed. "Mr. Troublefield," she smiled...knowing she got caught in her temper but she also knew she had to own up to her faults here. "Nice to see you." She then glanced over his shoulder, "alone, or did we bring some little blue friends along again?"

The more adventure, the better. With -@Alina Rosier

Clifton laughed at her question, though it was a fair one.

"Nope just me. But was that...you yelling?"

It had sounded like her, but that was definitely a side that he hadn't seen yet.

"Because I hope the tutor is okay. Remind me not to get on your bad side." He was teasing, of course, but maybe there were worse things she could say than just no. He watched over her shoulder as the Ravenclaw kid hid himself behind his book, then Clifton's gaze moved back to Alina's, silently asking her what had gone so wrong.

He figured he'd probably just caught her at a bad time. Some of their classes had been pretty rough lately. But he'd also just spent the whole walk over convincing himself this wasn't a stupid idea, so he wasn't about back down and wait for a better time.

"Actually, I wanted to ask you something. It's probably too late, but were you already going to that secret blossom dance ball thing? Because I really don't feel like doing Herbology homework." He scratched at what used to be his injured hand, a little self-consciously. "Also...I thought I should say thanks."

Of course, he realized that this sort of stuff was probably supposed to happen more like that invitation he saw downstairs. Full of fancy words and feelings. But Clifton wouldn't have been able to piece that nonsense together if he'd wanted to. Especially not when he hardly knew her.

He got as far as: "That is, if you're still not wanting to castrate all members of the male identity."

Calming down with @Clifton Troublefield

She couldn't help but just stare at him, speechless for the moment...which wasn't a usual state for her to be in. "The secret blossom ball thing...," she finally repeated his words slowly. She had heard murmurs about it from the students after the original one was canceled but she didn't actually think she'd be asked to go and she didn't plan on going alone.

Better than homework, he said, and it was very true, but that struck her too. Better than homework?! Was he really only going to go with her because it was better than homework? Oh the nerve he had... But she paused. Maybe it was just an excuse to say because he wanted to go. Did boys even like that sort of thing? She knew she'd like it. She knew she'd love it.

"Well," to use his words against himself, "I suppose it is better than homework. I'm quite sick of schoolwork at the moment, myself. And...I think yes, we should go," she smiled and was glad to feel not so angered like she was with the Raenclaw-sorry-excuse-for-a-tutor. "I'm sure I can throw something together to look presentable and I'd like that very much, Mr. Troublefield. Thank you much for asking."

She then smiled a little wider from his last words to her. "And I can promise you it'll be castration-free night." Oh the poor Ravenclaw set up to help her was probably terrified now more than ever with her talking of such things but he stayed behind the pile of books, afraid to be seen again.

"Shall I meet you in the Common Room?"

Trying Something New with @Alina Rosier

Clifton noticed that she'd hesitated a bit in her answer and wondered if he should've thought up a better way to ask her. But he decided that for now he was lucky enough she agreed.

And, to his surprise, he suddenly felt excited about it. Maybe this stuff wasn't so bad if you went with the right person. It'd be fun to try something new, especially with Alina who had a knack for keeping things interesting.

Like how she kept calling him Mr. Troublefield, as if they were adults. With a smile, he decided this time to mirror her manners.

"The common room around nineish, Miss Rosier."

She soon left and he watched her go, surprised that asking her had even worked.

He felt so different here, at Hogwarts. The only thing he could think to relate it to was pulling on a pair of new shoes. Where his toes didn't feel pinched anymore and there was all kinds of wiggle room to grow into. There were rules, of course, but he was largely left to his own decisions and plans. Never in his life had he snuck out late to go to a party. He'd never had a good reason to.

Still smiling, he decided he'd better go figure out what sort of clothes he could piece together too.
