Remember a Day
Clementine Hamilton stumbles upon an empty compartment, after she's been walking around for about five minutes.
Trying to find a place to sit in the Hogwarts Express, after hugging her father and stepmother goodbye, has been hard. (Her stepsisters had walked off, disappearing between the sea of students, probably in look for their friends, leaving her on her own). The dark-red-haired eleven-year-old hopefully walks around, only to be met with full compartments and not so nice older students, that gave the poor girl a rather dirty look for interrupting their conversations.
Luckily, her 2004 Walkman that once belonged to her father, Nathaniel Hamilton, is still playing one of her favorite songs of all time, so Clementine doesn't let the disappointment wash over her as David Gilmour's voice singing to the last chorus of The Lost Art of Conversation.
When she trips on her untied shoelaces, Clementine grabs the first thing she can and ends up falling inside a compartment. She lets out a loud 'oof', forcing herself to sit properly, looking around. No judging eyes turn to her as she's found the perfect place for her to stay and enjoy the long hours until the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Sitting down, putting her trunk right next to her, Clementine turns the volume of the Walkman up, staring outside of the window, finally letting her emotions get to her, as the melodies of Bohemian Rhapsody begins.
Dad's favorite song... The thought appears in her head, making her chest hurt a little. Nathaniel's out there, she thinks, holding Valerie's hand, worried about how she's doing, and how she'll adapt to her new adventure. The last question, only the future could tell, but, as for right now, how is she doing?
Clementine's on her way to one of the greatest wizarding schools in the entire world, ready to learn magical spells and potions, and whatever else young witches and wizards need to learn. There are no words able to describe how cold her stomach is or how fast her heartbeats are; the excitement pumping through her veins.
She lets her head rest again the window, a lazy smile on her face, hands pressed together. To the sound of Freddie Mercury, ignoring the lyrics, just enjoying the thoughts of finally being able to learn the same things her biological mother did, Clementine tells herself: I'm great. I'm doing great!

Remember a Day
The feel of her mother's heartbeat alone brought tears to her eyes. Noelle squeezed her mother as hard as she could, and it was a long time before she let go.
When she finally did, her mother held her out, giving her daughter a long look with her tear stained eyes. Noelle wore a pair of blue jeans, a red collared shirt, and a black jeans jacket with her short black hair lazily held back with two silver clips. Her face was full of youth while her eyes were full of intelligence.
“Mi bebé está subiendo! Oh, solo mírate...” Her mother kissed her on both cheeks. Noelle had to bite her lip to stop it from trembling, but her mother already knew how painful this was. It was different having to wait so many hours just to see the person you loved than having to wait several months. Her mother was like her big sister, more than her mother; she told her any and everything, from secrets to things that stressed her out. Her mother helped her cope with the chaotic world and it's people.
But now it was Noelle's job to grow up and help herself. To start with, she needed to stop being so sensitive.
Noelle took a big step back and wiped her tears, and her mother's. “Mamá,” she said, her voice cracking. “Te enviaré muchas cartas, de acuerdo? No te preocupes por mí, haré que los Carmona sean conocidos como la mejor familia de Inglaterra!”
They both broke into laughter, Noelle having repeated a family joke. It was obvious that the two didn't want to part ways but they knew that they had to. Noelle kissed her mother on the cheek this time and hugged her, then she walked backwards for a moment before turning all the way towards the train.
The red freight's whistle blew loud enough to split one's ears, signaling that any lingering students should board the train. Noelle hurried, her dark hair blowing into her face from the steam. She cast one look behind her and found her mother waving; she waved back.
Noelle board the train along with the last of the students. She wondered if anyone could actually miss the train, but she was just glad that she wasn't that person. As she expected the train was crowded and compartments were brimming with students. After taking this in, she made a beeline for the end of the freight.
But it was next to impossible to find an empty compartment, and Noelle was good at figuring out how impossible something actually was. Some had one occupant while others were just full of luggage, like there had been nowhere else to put their things. Noelle frowned, considering moving someone's stuff, even though she knew she'd have to deal with consequences afterwards.
Her head snapped to side as she watched a girl trip, possibly over her untied shoelaces. Noelle didn't laugh, like someone behind her did, but hurried forward. The girl fell into a compartment and it looked empty from where she was, so if she got her no one would be there to help her.
Noelle stood in the doorway; the girl had already settled into the compartment with her luggage and an old device in her hand. She dug through her memory concerning muggle technology and recalled it as a Walkman. Noelle wished that she had brought her own source of music, but as far as she knew devices like that wouldn't even work within the castle walls.
She scoured her mind for something to say that would be more decent than just asking whether she were okay, because at the moment Noelle seemed to be keen on watching her gaze out the window.
Finally she decided on her first query. Noelle stood far enough into the room to catch the girl's attention. “Hey, are you alright? I saw you fall down; if they carry any, I can get you a band-aid.”

Remember a Day
By the corner of her eyes, Clementine notices a rather tall girl standing inside the compartment, saying something, with a worried look on her face. Taking off the earphones, pressing a button on the left side of Walkman, not wanting to lose the best part of Bohemian Rhapsody, in her opinion, she catches just the last word from the girl's sentence: band-aid.
She smiles, realizing that the girl had seen her fall down a few seconds ago. Clementine shakes her head, letting her hands fall to her lap, an easy-going and very bright smile on her face. "Oh, don't worry, I'm used to falling all the time." As she's wearing a purplish dress, she raises the skirt just above her knee, enough for the girl to see that various bruises hiding there. "Look, I'll be fine."
Clementine remembers every single of one the occasions that lead to the eventual bruises on her knees. Most of them involved running around with her muggle friends or hiding from father and Valerie after pulling a prank in them. Not wanting to go on a rant about the memories of her clumsiness, Clementine turns back to the girl, surprised she hasn't sat down yet.
The girl has small features and pretty dark brown eyes. Now giving her a good look, she's taller than Clementine, which is surprising, as she's known for being taller than anyone else, even older boys.
"I think most of the compartments are full, would like to sit here?" Says Clementine, bubbly, pointing the seat in front of her. Without giving her a chance to reply, she raises her hand, smiling big once again. "Name's Clementine Hamilton, but you can call me Tine. It's a pleasure to meet you!"

Remember a Day
September 1st, 2019.After the awkward hug with his father, Roman forces himself to board the Hogwarts Express.
Pulling his trunk with him, trying his best not to bump with some stupid first year, the boy walks towards the compartments in the back, knowing the ones in the front are taken by older students who arrived early.
There are a lot of students in the corridor, some aren’t even trying to go anywhere, just talking with one another like they have all the time in the world. Roman rolls his eyes, brushing it off. Raising his head to see better, the boy tries to see what lies ahead and watches a girl tripping on something, and down on the floor, which makes a peal of weak laughter escape him, as he shakes his head.
What an idiot… He tells himself, then noticing the girl’s in a relatively empty compartment. Another girl, that was right in front of him, follows the one who fell, and, not feeling like walking to find a quiet place for himself, Roman slithers towards that compartment door.
“Am I interrupting something?” Roman doesn’t even try to sound remotely nice, eyes bored deep in those girls’ faces. The one who fell down has a chubby-freckled face, and dark red hair, while the other’s brown hair and brown eyes. He holds the compartment door open, and with a simple eye roll, he asks, “Can I sit here? The rest of the train is full.”

Remember a Day
Noelle succeeded in getting her attention because the girl took out her earphones and gave her a warm smile, which she returned, though it wasn't as big.
The girl explained how it wasn't that big of a deal to her because she fell often, which she proved to Noelle but lifting part of her skirt to show the various bruises and scrapes along her leg, especially her knee. Noelle winced but nodded. She wondered if any of those were skateboarding scars, because she had her handful of those. She was an avid skateboarder and that came with more than just some scratches. Sometimes she ended up in the ER with a sprained ankle or a dislocated shoulder.
“Look, I'll be fine,” assured the red head. Noelle nodded again sheepishly, glancing to the side. She was deciding whether she should ask to sit with the girl or find somewhere else, even though she knew that the other compartments would be crowded.
As if she read her mind, the girl invited her to sit down, pointing at the seat in front of her. Noelle quickly did so, since it had been a little difficult to keep upright in a loving train, and stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jeans jacket.
“Name's Clementine Hamilton, but you can call me Tine. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
Noelle accepted the handshake, if that's what it was meant to be. She wasn't used to giving those, but the girl's amiability made her feel relaxed enough not to worry if she were doing it wrong. She smiled back, replying, “I'm Noelle Car—”
Just then a boy slipped into the compartment. “Am I interrupting something?” His eyes, dead, bore into each of theirs, like he were daring them to do something. Noelle stared back; he had indeed interrupted her but she wasn't sure if she should actually mention that right then. From the look of him, he didn't seem like the type to take that lightly.
He asked if he could sit with them, along with a roll of his eyes, because the rest of the train was full, like she'd assumed. Noelle gazed at him for a heartbeat longer before turning to Clementine, who had original occupant of the compartment. It was her say, so Noelle waited for her response.

Remember a Day
The boy that had opened the compartment door, rather abruptly, she may add, looks bored to death. He's pale, and very tall for their age, with dark straight hair. The impatient and cold vibe he gives off is the exact same as her stepsister, Selene, and, though the two of them have a rocky relationship, Clementine doesn't let that cloud her judgment about that boy. From all she knows, he might turn out to be a lovely person.
"Yes, of course!" says Clementine quickly, smile just as bright as before, after retributing Noelle's glance, letting go of her dress."The more the better as my father would say. I've been told I talk a lot, so I warn the two of you," Clementine laughs at her own silly joke, as she plays with her hair, before clasping her hands together. Completely forgetting about listening to music, she gives them both good looks, excited about talking to them, wondering if they were born from a wizarding family or a so-called "muggle" one. "Ah, I've been dreaming about this for months! A wizarding school— God, it's really crazy, isn't it? I grew up in the 'muggle' world, never expected something like this to happen, and then, BAAM! It turns out I was a witch all along!"
She shakes her head and weak laughter, eyes a little widen, to show how unbelievable this is to her. Clementine's also known for her over-the-top expressions, which can make her look silly, just like right now, making grand gestures, "Aren't you excited? Are any of you muggle-born?"

Remember a Day
[quote][quote]Yes, it seems like he’d interrupted something the brown-haired girl was saying if her quick and almost unnoticeable glare is any indication. Not that Roman cares, really, why would he? As long as he can enjoy his quiet time without having to participate in any conversation with those two, nothing about them matters to him. Even though he was a talker (and a very good one at that!), there's nothing interesting being brought to the table now, nothing that piques his interest and makes Roman the talking machine he can be.
So, with not a single word escaping his mouth, not even a thank you after the redhaired girl had let him stay with them, Roman sits down next to the girl with brown hair, but with a considerable amount of distance between them.
He puts his trunk close to his legs, resting his back against the velvet seat, forcing himself to listen to the other girl’s ramble. Too much for quiet, eh? Roman thinks mockingly, a heavy sigh escaping his lips, looking outside of the window, not caring much about how excited that little girl is about going to Hogwarts.
Obviously, she’s muggle-born. He could tell by the simple way she talks, starry-eyed, and also her clothing. Despite trying not to judge people by the way they act, or talk, or whatever, Roman can’t help himself; this being one of many of his father’s habits instilled in him from a very young age, so his dark eyes analyze everything he can about those two, absorbing some information in order to form an opinion of them.
"Aren't you excited?" asks the girl, seemingly unable to control herself. Roman unconsciously winces at the question, closing his eyes for a second, counting to ten. He's not even sure of why he's doing that, he isn't tired in the slightest, but something in the way the girl talks is already starting to drain his energy.
Quite frankly, he isn’t excited. At all. Roman’s known he’d be going to that wizarding school since he learned how to speak, following his father’s footsteps, just like he followed his old man's. Unlike the muggle-born, there's nothing too magical and new about Hogwarts.
"No," he states, tiredly, avoiding both of the girls' faces, eyes glued to the ceiling in the most bored expression ever. Roman doesn't even have to try that hard, blessed with his mother's so-called 'resting face'. "It's not a big deal, ya know. To me, this is the most normal thing evah. Being a pure-blood and all," As usual, he sounds rude, with that familiar cold tone mixed in there. Hopefully, the girl will stop talking and Roman will be able to enjoy the silence in the compartment. There's a quiet voice in his head that tells him he's being unnecessarily rude, and, telling it to shut up, the boy adds, now sounding a bit muffled, "I'm Roman, by the way. Roman Kingston."

Remember a Day
The boy sat down, his tall figure coming down to their level. He decided to sit next her, which was understandable because the energy radiating from Clementine was a bit overwhelming. Not that Noelle didn't mind how enthusiastic the girl was for coming to Hogwarts, but Noelle was full of so many jitters and nerves that she could barely control. She just managed to keep herself looking controlled, because inside her was storm of infinite things to worry about.
Noelle appreciated Clementine sharing her thoughts, it made her feel a little more excited to be heading to Hogwarts. The main thing she was worrying about was her grades; magical school was definitely different than muggle school and her mother, a muggle-born, had grown closer to the non-magic, so Noelle had never gotten a proper understanding of her heritage. She just hoped that she'd do well in school, which was all that really mattered.
A glance at the boy besides her and she could immediately tell that he was bored out of his mind, even frustrated. She pursed her lips and trained her eyes to the ground; she didn't like those type of who broadcasted negative feelings so...openly, like they honestly didn't care about whatever else thought, or like they were doing to make people feel bad. She wondered he really despised Clementine's chatter that much. How come he doesn't just leave, then, if he's that bothered..., she thought.
She had been half-listening to Clementine, and caught on when she said that she'd found out that she was a witch all along. Noelle perked up at this, and the rising questions in her head were answered when the girl answered when she asked if any of them were muggle-born.
Noelle pulled her jacket closer around her body, feeling a sudden chill even though the window was closed. The boy answered and with a blunt no, and then went on to say that the whole thing wasn't a big deal to him, adding that it was because he was pureblood 'and all'.
Her eyes darted to Clementine in disbelief but she quickly looked out the window instead, figuring that the girl probably wouldn't take it the way Noelle had. She kept her face neutral, but she was trying to figure out why this guy, who then introduced himself as Roman Kingston, had addressed them like that. He just had a despicable quality about him and it rubbed her the wrong way.
It seemed like he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon so she decided to try to figure out what was wrong. Noelle reckoned that Roman was having a bad day, which was understandable. Maybe he was missing his family or something had happened, so he was taking it out on them. Or maybe, just maybe, it was just how he was.
Whatever, it really doesn't matter to me. Honestly... But it did. Whenever someone else seemed bothered, she started putting kt on herself, like she had caused it, and began to self-deprecate. The best solution was just put a smile on her face in this situation, she decided. Fight negativity with positivity.
Noelle offered a warm smile to them both. “I'm Noelle. My parents were both wizards, but I'm not a Pureblood... I'm excited, too, but equally nervous,” she answered, sheepishly. She pursed her lips, then looked at Clementine, though what she was about to say was addressed to everyone. “So, what are you looking forward to...?” She glanced between them both.

Remember a Day
The boy, with that lazy and somewhat cold attitude, after talking about his lack of interest in Hogwarts, presents himself as Roman Kingston. So he's a pureblood, just like Valerie, she repeats in her mind, nodding to his words, understanding what he means by that. Clementine can only assume, though hard to believe, that she'd be used to magic if she'd grown up surrounded by it. It's like having pasta for dinner every Friday. After a while, no matter how good, you'll get used to it, right?
However, the way he talked seemed to get a reaction out of Noelle, but the girl promptly smiles and replies that she's both excited and nervous, which Clementine can relate to a lot. The thought of learning any type of magic makes her feel like she's falling, that way when she's in a rollercoaster, yelling at the top of her lungs.
Then, Noelle goes on to ask about what she's looking forward to, which makes Clementine frown, thinking deeply about it. Her stepsisters, Selene and Irene, had told her about the many subjects she'd be learning at Hogwarts, and one of them was how to fly a broom. Though Selene had tried her best to put in her head that flying could be very dangerous, Clementine had to admit it sounded fantastic. She had also heard about a lot about a popular wizarding sport, and since Irene used to be part of the team, she'd love to try it sometime.
"Flying, I think. Uh, I’m Clementine. Call me Tine!” She answers, adding her name later, just to let Roman know, nodding to her own words. "I want to, at least, watch that sport... Uh, what is it called? Qui... Quidditch? Yeah, Quidditch! I have a terrible memory!" Clementine rolls her eyes at her silliness, shaking her head. "Oh, oh, and Charms, too! Ah, there are a lot of subjects and I want to know everything about magic, you know? The one that scares me the most is Potions..." The girl sighs heavily, remember who her stepsister's eyes would sparkle whenever she mentioned the lesson. "It's Selene's favorite subject and if that smarty-pants likes it, it has to be difficult. What about you?"

Remember a Day
[quote][quote]He’s thankful that, after Noelle’s question and glance in their direction, the red-haired girl took upon herself to answer, chirping like a happy little owl, because there’s nothing on his mind on that topic, and also because Roman doesn’t feel like talking that much. Out of all the things to do in Hogwarts, he only really cared about being sorted and attending the lessons, wanting to continue his family’s traditions of remarkable report cards.
Eyes closed, relaxing against his seat, he’s about to tune off when he catches the word ‘flying’ coming out of the girl’s mouth. The boy opens one of his eyes, peaking at her face; of course, he’s met with that naive and bright smile that makes him hug himself, hands touching his skin, hidden underneath his well-knitted yellow sweater fabric.
Surprisingly, Roman finds himself shifting in his seat, moving his trunk with him, finding a better position because his neck begins to complain about the way he’s sitting, and also, to get a better look at the red-haired girl’s reaction as she talks about the wizarding world, a little bit interested in what she had to say. Just enough to wipe the bored expression of his face, as Clementine’s choices of subjects earn a somewhat impressed eyebrow raise from him.
The girl talks about flying lessons and Charms, too, then goes on to mention her hesitation with Potions, blaming a person named Selene, presumably a member of her family. It’s the mention of Quidditch that makes his heart pang inside of his chest, however. Just a little, but enough to hurt.
It took a lot of effort and convincing from his part to make Virgil Kingston buy tickets to the 2018’s Quidditch World Cup, and Roman only managed to do that because he’s had years of training. Always busy with his work at the Ministry of Magic, his father never has the time to sit back and enjoy the simple things, such as the most anticipated sports event in the wizarding world, or spend time with his oh so lonely son.
Using these two unbeatable arguments, together with some teary eyes, Roman got to enjoy one of the best days of his life. At this point, most of it is a giant blur in his head, all he can truly remember is the feeling of euphoria clutching in his chest during the match, then crying his heart out when the Ballycastle Bats won against the Appleby Arrows.
The memories make a small smile appear on the corner of his mouth and Roman answers, voice muffled, "I'd luv' to join the Quidditch team, ya know. Been flyin' since I was a child," That's all he offers on the matter, not wanting to start talking about one of his favorite things in the world. With a quick shrug, he adds, "Personally, Potions and History of Magic sound the most exciting to me, I dunno. Never gave too much thought about it."
