Love Towards The Haunted
Love: What a trivial thing. Funny how both wizards and muggles alike celebrated it. The boy didn’t find much extraordinary joy in Valentine’s day. His mother never cared for it and nor did he. However, he found roses to be appeasing and fitting, or the pink heart-patterned cards that decorated the roofs of his school back before Hogwarts. The colour black seemed to appease him more nowadays though, considering that most of his belongings were the same colour. Robes, hat, ink, shirts. Hopefully, he could borrow (or rather steal) a black quill from somewhere or someone.
The rays of the beaming sun were still glowing, even if the cold Scottish February season had made sure that every single cloud was out that day. It was still warm though. His cheeks blossomed just like the flowers did, in red. His pale white skin could still turn red, even if it wasn’t necessarily hot enough for any other ‘normal’ being to be affected so harshly.
Unfortunately, after some time delving in the greenhouse, he didn’t find what he was looking for. A green stem with a bulb of darkness. Imagining it was rather easy, but magic wasn’t exactly what he precisely thought of it being; the easiest thing to ever control. Conjuration wasn’t his strongest suit, if he could, he would have solved this little deed asked of him already. A black flower would be probably too cliche for his liking, but it would definitely be outstanding, unique. He had already guessed that Hogwarts had been decorated in bright colours that usually represented love and all things alike.
But at the very least, he had already thought of who, or rather, what should receive the said flowers.
Strolling around the greenhouse with his hands tucked away, eyes spying on every pot and green thing, he finally found a stack of flowers with bright yellow petals blooming beautifully. As much as he hated to admit it, the joyful colour was becoming one of his favourites. It was hard to avoid, especially if one was a Hufflepuff, where even the bedsheets were patterned in yellow and black. He picked a lot of them and tucked them very gently in his robes’ pocket. A satisfying smile crossing his face in the process.
Everyone seemed to be obsessed with one another, older students handing flowers to their loved ones, but just as much, students forgot about those who have been spending eternity in absolute solitude for far too long. The ghosts of Hogwarts. Probably the closest friends, if one could call them that, Euphaustus had made ever since arriving at Hogwarts. But he wasn’t against it, if anything, he enjoyed some of their company. It would have been selfish of him to not return a little good deed to them. His first intention was to go down to the dungeons - but that was probably not the best of ideas. So he took off to roam around the hallways and hope to find a secluded spot were students hadn’t decorated yet.
His hope started to frail. Every corner, chandelier, stairway and path was coloured with petals of pink and red. Blue in certain spotlights. Maybe he wasn’t so clever to come up with such an inclusive idea. Until he came to the end of the corridor, a pitch-black unlit area that was probably meant to scare off whoever reached it. But if anything, Euphaustus saw it as a welcome. He placed the set of flowers on the ground, spread them around by kindly shaping them into a heart. All the ghosts had to do - if they could - was to pick them up, if not, well, they could look at them. At the end of the day, it was the thought that mattered, right?
