HOGWARTS was confusing— horribly confusing, but Connor had actually done pretty well when it came to getting his bearings. His Common Room was in the dungeons, so he’d had the opportunity to walk all the from the dungeons to the Astronomy tower once or twice, which had both taken forever and allowed him to see the entire school, or at least most of it.

He was on his way to his Charms class, going the way he always did. He was making good time, actually, and he was planning on being there early so he could do some other homework before class. Not like he was a nerd or anything.

Connor watched the paintings as he walked, finding himself completely fascinated by them, even if he’d known of their existence since birth. His parents hadn’t had any magical paintings in his house, which is why he couldn’t take his eyes off them.

He made sure to stay aware of his surroundings, though, and tore his eyes away every couple of seconds to make sure that he wasn’t about to run into someone. He’d never get over that one.

The Charms classroom was in sight now, the door slightly agar and a warm light flooding onto the stone floors from behind it. It looked like a haven, really, though Connor wasn’t sure what from. Before he could walk in, though, he was stopped by a voice.

Carson and Maggie were taking their sweet time getting to Potions. Both had agreed that they hated the subject and it could go burn, and neither had any interest on getting there on time.

“I mean, don’t get me wrong, she’s a great tutor... I still hate the subject though.” Carson explained, his hands in his pockets as he talked to Maggie.

“You know what would be helpful...” Maggie trailed off, a mischievous twinkle in her blue eyes.

“A firstie.” they chorused, identical grins on their faces.

“We’ll pay them back, of course.” Carson assured to the moral-gods watching over this moment. “With... we’ll figure it out.”

“Of course.” Maggie reassured. “What about him?” she nodded her head at a passing first-year, a scrawny, sniveling Ravenclaw boy who kept wiping his nose with his sleeve.

“He’d rat us out. What about her?” Carson asked, pointing at a pretty Gryffindor passing by. Maggie just rolled her eyes, punching him in the arm.

“You can flirt with her some other time, Romeo.” she laughed. “What about him?” she pointed ahead, to a bobbing head of brown, curly hair.

The boy was a Slytherin, and he walked like he’d practiced it for years. His uniform was perfect, his arms were folded just so, and he was turning towards the Charms room.

As Carson watched him, he noticed the boy’s eyes wandering all over the place, even if he tried to focus on the more pressing realities. Perfect. If he held any sort of awe towards the magic in the castle, then Carson was sure he’d be in awe of some second-years.

“Perfect.” Maggie grinned, looking to him with raised eyebrows.

Maggie and Carson moved in sync, speeding up their pace with longer strides. Maggie had to take a significant amount more than Carson, which she internally scowled at, but chose to ignore.

Maggie on his left, Carson on his right, the two hooked their arms around the now-startled first year. Now that Maggie could see his face, she was relieved to know that she hadn’t met him before.

“Say, you look a bit lost.” Maggie faked concern, furrowing her brows in the boy’s direction. “What do you think, Carson?” she chirped, looking over towards Carson over the boy’s head.

“I think I agree.” Carson answered, in a wonderfully peppy tone. Maggie was struggling not to laugh.

“I’m not—” the first year began, only to be cut off by Maggie.

“But you must be!” she chirped, grinning as she guided the boy to turn in the opposite direction.

“You’re going the wrong way, mate!” Carson patted the first-year’s shoulder and they were now walking in the opposite direction.

“The Library is this way!” Maggie explained, her and Carson speaking in such quick turns that the poor kid didn’t even have a chance to talk.

“Understandable, of course, since you’re an ickle firstie.” Carson reassured, the two students’ second-year status obviously going to their heads.

“We can’t have you being lost.”

im not godmodding don’t worry
“I’m not bloody lost!” Connor cried, taking a few quick steps to get ahead of the pair and get a good look at them. He’d gotten back his senses, and was now positively outraged. Of course, it didn’t take much for him to get mad, but that’s not the point.

The two were both taller than him— the girl by barely an inch and the boy three or four. They were obviously older, but not by a lot. Connor would guess second or third years. The girl had light brown hair, bangs, and clear blue eyes, and the boy had fluffy golden-brown hair, brown eyes, and freckles. Both were grinning and reminded Connor of foxes.

“Who the hell are you?” Connor asked, feeling indignant. “I’ve got to get to class, you know, and I won’t leave your names out of this.” Connor, in all honesty, couldn’t care less wether he got to class on time— only the Howler that’d enevitably show up if he didn’t.

“Awwe, look, we’ve got the little tyke upset!” the girl cooed, walking up to him and picking his cheek as she swung an arm around his shoulder.

“Listen, kid, you’re gonna want to stick around for this one.” the boy said, wrapping an arm around his other shoulder and speaking like he was letting him in on some treasured advice.

“Ki— you’re barely older than I am!” Connor cried indignantly, only to be completely ignored.

“Kid, just quit your crying. I’m Maggie,” She, Maggie, introduced herself, grinning charmingly.

“And I’m Carson.” Carson finished, the pair speaking as if they’d rehearsed it.

“No, you’re a pair of dipshits.” Connor growled, glaring at the pair in contempt. His temper made his dislike for the pair seem a lot worse than it actually was, but he still didn’t like them.
