Kind.

That's what Fumiko strived to be seen as. Not the kind that makes people flock to you like months to flame. More like, the kind that's just too boring to get yourself involved with but is seen as someone that'll help anyone even when no-ones looking.

She cared about the looking part though. What's the point of showing her kind side if no one was looking. She wasn't genuine enough to be kind with pure intentions. She wanted to be seen as boringly kind, and she'll do just that.

Currently, she's been doing operation : Befriend The Lonelys, Lonelies, Lo- ah Loners. The ones that sit at the back of the class and almost never say a word so no one knows if they're absent unless they speak up themselves. The ones that wake up early just so they can eat without any other living beings breathing in the same air as them.

Befriending loners makes people go like : ' Ohh look at her~She's so kind befriending someone so rude! . ' She must have such patience dealing with someone like that' . That was the plan and she finally found her perfect partner for this operation.

After not so stalker-ish investigating, she found a 1st year Slytherin student named Noah Page. People described him as quiet, snobbish, arrogant and friend-less.

P e r f e c t

If her kindness is rejected, that's fine all she needs to do it smile through it and fight her urge to kick him out the nearest open window. Will this make him look bad? Absolutely! Fumiko couldn't give two craps about him but if he doesn't want to be seen as a stereotypical Slytherin, he should know not to reject her.

Currently, she's making her first move. Leaning against a concrete wall in an empty corridor while drawing an invisible sun in the cold air . They just had class together and she basically zoomed out the corridor so she could get here before he does.

If her observations were correct, he should be passing through right about....

A devilish smirk that didn't suit her face spread as she heard a light tip taps of walking coming from the other end of her wall. That could be him. If it isn't, then she'll improvise.

Silently running a bit further her end, she took a lot of deep breaths, and started power walking to the edge of her corridor. Trying her best to focus on his steps, she paced up when she saw his shadow anndddd...

Step 1 : Bump into him accidentally [ C O M P L E T E ]

" Oh my god..I-I'm so sorry..I-.. " she perfectly faked a worried tone as she looked around, her midnight eyes noticing a book that slipped out of his hands. Expressively showing concern towards the boy, she picked up his book and held it out for him to take.

" P-please forgive me. I w-wasn't paying attention..." she trailed off, showing her usual sweet smile with a tad bit of shyness in them to fit her current ' shy n sweet ' self. " H-here~ " anyone would've melted at how adorable she was being right now. Expecting the whole conversation in her head to go through, she softened her smile in case she came off as creepy.

Noah was never late, n e v e r. He had a schedule and he always stuck to it without fail, he woke up at a fixed time, early in the mornings and started his day while keeping everything perfect, waking up early meant he also had time to compose himself and make sure he never forgot anything. A perfectionist.

However, this time, he was running late today. What was late exactly? Well, maybe he'd be in class just five minutes before class started. Now that, was really late.

If you're wondering why he was late, it was because he was sharing his textbook with the person sitting next to him and he accidently took Noah's book and Noah realised a bit later that he had forgotten to take his book back from him. He found the guy pretty quickly but he now had to get to the next class without being late, he decided he wouldn't bother putting the book into his backpack, he could do that in the next classroom instead of wasting time outside.

And so he rushed towards the classroom, hoping he wouldn't be late, not so early in the year...

A few minutes later, he found himself nearing the classroom, it wasn't too far now, and he had about three minutes to waste still. Unforunately, he suddenly found himself being stopped by a large mass in front of him appearing out of a corner. He groaned, he didn't exactly have time for bumping into people, he really should have watched where he was walking.

He looked at the person who he had bumped into, some girl who was probably just as old as him. He felt like he had seen her before somewhere but he didn't really pay attention to people all that much. Honestly, he couldn't really care less about who she was.

"Oh my god..I-I'm so sorry..I-... P-please forgive me. I w-wasn't paying attention..."

Noah sighed, who was this girl? The way she was behaving reminded him of babies, he had seen a few of his cousins who were rather young and she reminded him of them. They might look cute but they weren't all that innocent, who knows what went on in their evil heads? As for this girl, he didn't know anything about her but she just felt weird, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"H-here~ "

Noah sighed, she made him feel uncomfortable for some reason, even if he couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her. He simply took his book back and uttered a soft "Thank you." for his book before starting to walk towards the class. He still had enough time to go there and maybe still be able to revise a bit...

' E...eh? ' no , no this wasn't supposed to happen. Oi, she had their whole conversation in her head , why didn't he follow it?! . He was supposed to thank her more and ask if she was alright.

Was Fumiko not cute enough?

Crap, she knew she forgot to fix her hair before excluding this plan. Now, what was she supposed to do?

She didn't have enough time to think before she felt the book slip out of her small hands and before she knew it, Page had already walked passed her like nothing happened. For a second, her faced turned sour.

' Tsk, ' this is going to be harder than she thought. At least he wasn't that rude, she suppose.

Good news is, he's heading towards their next class, History. Pathways to class, means more people would witness her trying to befriend him.

P e r f e c t.

She took a few seconds to practice her smiling before turning on her heel and sprinting towards the boy, who obviously wanted to be left alone but really this is Fumiko, she doesn't care. " W-wait up !! "

Finally walking side to side, she tried to look as calm as possible, ignoring her heart beating fast from the sudden sprint. It wasn't even a full minute run, she considered working on her stamina more in the future.

" Y-you're heading to History right? I-if Im not mistaken....we have that together. Hufflepuffs and Slytherins, I mean. C-considering I bumped into you..might as well walk there together. U-umm .. right~? " acting like a shy but nice girl was tough for Fumiko.

She needed to show some hints of nervousness in her tone and actions but drop the right amount the more the talks. If she goes over the right amount, she'd be giving unwanted thoughts about her on the person she's talking too.

Thank god she perfected this already.

She hid the urge to roll her eyes at Page's lack of response, instead she smiled once again looking unbothered. " S-sorry again..for bumping into you..I-Im Fumiko Tachibana~ " she greeted warmly, though deciding not to shake his hand since she had a feeling he wouldn't stop for a mere hand shake.

" A-ah you're...you're Noah , right? Noah Page? O-oh you were quite famous in our classroom, my friends talk about you sometimes ahha..oo good things I assure you. F- forgive me if I sounded a bit odd. I'm not really...ummm.." she quicken up her pace to match with the boy's. It secretly irked her how longer the boy's legs were compared to hers.

"-that confident in socialising...but..but I still try~ " she smoothly lied.

Like hell he was famous. Almost no one knew the darn kid and it was stressful trying to get info on him. It was as if he excelled in the arts of pretending he doesn't exist, giving an illusion to anyone that made him almost impossible to remember.

And Fumiko thought she was the one that was hardly noticeable.

Thought the 1st step was a bit of a failure, she could still proceed with Operation Befriend the Loner. Now that she complimented him on how he was well talked about and that he now knew her name, if everything goes to plan, their convo would turn more comfortable and they'll end up sharing complaints about their professors~

Noah kept walking, he had no idea that the girl he had just bumped into still had her eyes on him, he wasn't the kind to notice things like that easily, especially not when he had better things to worry about.

" W-wait up! "

He usually wouldn't have cared but he knew that voice, and that stutter. He just didn't understand why she couldn't just leave him alone. He simply glanced back at her and saw her hurrying to catch up with him, did he drop something else as well?

" Y-you're heading to History right? I-if Im not mistaken....we have that together. Hufflepuffs and Slytherins, I mean. C-considering I bumped into you..might as well walk there together. U-umm .. right~? "

Noah had no idea what the girl was up to but something definitely wasn't right. The way she talked just made him feel really uncomfortable for some reason, it just wasn't right but he couldn't explain why, he decided to not do anything just because he didn't have a good feeling about the situation. And it was just walking with her to the class, wasn't too bad, he could do that, he nodded and continued walking.

" S-sorry again..for bumping into you..I-Im Fumiko Tachibana~ "

"Noah Page." He muttered, still not really in the mood to talk to her, he was honestly just waiting to get to class and not have to talk to this girl, she was creeping him out and he barely knew her, besides, he really would love to have revised a bit before the class began.

"A-ah you're...you're Noah , right? Noah Page? O-oh you were quite famous in our classroom, my friends talk about you sometimes ahha..oo good things I assure you. F- forgive me if I sounded a bit odd. I'm not really...ummm.. that confident in socialising...but..but I still try~ "

Noah couldn't help but feel like wheezing or something, he was right, there was something off. Noah barely knew anyone, he had only one person in the school that he knew slightly. Famous or good things being said about him were probably the last thing that Noah would have related to him. No one noticed him and even if they did, it was never a friendly interaction.

He wasn't even sure how he should have replied to that if it was true, so he simply stayed silent. Seriously, how was anyone supposed to reply to someone telling them that they were popular? thank you ? That would just be weird, he didn't understand how people dealt with each other.

Fumiko didn't have enough empathy to notice how uncomfortable Page was around her, she was only deeply concerned why he didn't reply anything back.

' Oh really? ahhaa I'm flattered '

' Heh, thank you '

' Darn, I guess I should work harder to stop that '

Were one of the few sentences she expected the boy to say and he gave her the worst response she ever received.

Silence.

She was beginning to regret ever trying to befriend the boy. It was like her pride, ego and skill have all been struck down at the same time that she could actually hear them break like shattered glass. Was this boy just shy? Or just as rude as everyone says.

A small part of her suggested that perhaps he was just socially awkward but her bruised ego from getting ignored swatted every small urge to understand the boy.

Fabricating an unbothered smile, she decided to start small conversations before they arrive to class.
" So~ how are you with History of Magic? Do you like it? What do you think about the Professor's lectures? " it was a simple question that could spark an conversation with the most boring person on earth.

She was silent for a bit and Noah decided that she was done, he was relieved. He didn't like the girl at all and he had no intentions of continuing the conversation.

But then she had to speak up again, Noah would've groaned if he could, " So~ how are you with History of Magic? Do you like it? What do you think about the Professor's lectures? "

Noah never understood how people managed to come up with pointless things to talk about so easily, she didn't even know him at all (or that's what he thought, at least), she should have struggled a bit more to be able to talk to him but it was as if talking to someone who didn't want to talk to her didn't take any effort at all for her. He decided he'd give her a reply that would include everything he had to say on the topic so she couldn't continue the conversation and then he could finally just not have to talk to her after that.

"It is a rather interesting subject. It can get a bit boring at times with the dates and names but it still has a lot to learn from. It's a pain to learn for tests for it but it's still fun."

Yes, that must have been enough, she would probably reply with her opinions and the conversation would die out. He didn't know why but he just wanted to stay away from her as much as he could.

If it wasn't obvious to her before, it was obvious now. Noah Page didn't want to talk to her. For some reason, someone too blinded by their ego to notice someones uncomfortability can detect their intentions to end a conversation quickly.

She allowed pride to fill her up, proud she could see what he was trying to do, completely forgetting the fact that she was three replies late.

She had done the same thing before when she was a child. Back then it was easier being honest with people and when she didn't like who was talking to her, there was a 50/50 percent chance that she would make it obvious.

Her ego wasn't bruised as before at his true intentions. The feelings were mutual, she didn't want to continue talking to him either. But since she's not satisfied with the amount of students watching their interaction, she decided to annoy him even further.

She did come here to in-genuinely befriend him, whether he liked it or not.

She smiled while she nodded her head at his response. " Hmm, remembering dates and names gets boring for you huh? I actually rather like learning those especially. I always liked listening other people's stories, remembering them and what they did and all. "

She paused for a moment before another pointless question popped up. " Say, are you a muggleborn? I don't hear a lot of pure or half bloods say they enjoy history. I can say I like history because it's all new to me because you know, being muggle born and all " she didn't like sharing info with him but oh what else to do to get him to talk more so it looked like they were friends.

She was silent for some more time so Noah decided he'd succeded and took a deep breath, feeling relieved.

But that's when she had to open her mouth again, talking something about actually enjoying remembering stuff, he didn't really care, did he? She was either really really dumb or just trying hard. But it wasn't like Noah could just tell her to leave him alone when she hadn't actually been bugging him for that long so he decided to reply to her.

But before he could come up with his reply, she added to her sentence and Noah would've scowled if he could.

"Learning about things is good, I can understand why that's important but I can't see why remembering things like History is actually necessary in any way. If you like remembering it then good for you. As for your question, I'm a pureblood. But learning about what happened in the past is like reading a novel of some sort so it's kind of interesting."

Noah was just hoping the corridor was a bit shorter, entering the class was the only way he could see himself escaping from the conversation, he honestly didn't want to continue it anymore. A few seconds after he replied to her, he saw the door and sighed in relief.

" Wouldn't you want to be remembered after you die? All the things you did good or bad? ", she blurted out when he surprisingly didn't agree with her. Didn't Slytherins stereotypically aim high and strive to be remembered?

Then again, the only reason why she bothered to remember other people was because she understood the wish to be remembered and felt guilty if she didn't do the same. Thank god, he didn't completely insult her preferences.

Though she decided her feelings about the boy weren't that positive, she had to give him a thumbs up in her head for not showing any hostility towards her muggleborn status despite being a pureblood.

Not that she believed all purebloods hated muggleborns, she's just careful. Noah was just the first pureblood to dislike her for good reasons.

Seeing the door to the classroom in her sight, she decided a simple " Hmm~can't argue with that " would be fine to say to end their boring conversation to the classroom. She was sure she annoyed him enough.

She'll give him a break in class by siting away from him and then she'll annoy him again.

" Well~ thanks for accompanying me to class " she thanked as they arrived at the door. Her one small hand ready to push the door open. It was no secret that 'accompanying her' wasn't something he did on his own free will. She just said that to annoy the boy further.

" We should talk more after class! " she gave a cheerful grin with 98.9% hidden sarcasm to her new ' friend ' before entering the class room first.

Noah sighed, it was a rather good point, he didn't like to admit it but he was after all after being recognized for something he was good at too. So, why then did he not want to remember others on the things they did, hm?

Noah took a few seconds before replying, deciding that he actually did need some time to think over the subject, was there an actual reason for him to not want to remember them? When he tried to think of it, he only didn't want to remember people because it was difficult to remember things, and why should he? Remembering them doesn't change anything, it's not like they were affected by people remembering them. All the respect paid to dead people fell on deaf ears, the people were gone and no longer would care about the things people did for them. So maybe, that's why? It was rather hard to explain. He surely only cared about what people thought about him when he was alive, after that, whatever people said wouldn't bother him at the very least, he wasn't there to hear it. But how was he going to explain this to her anyway?

He glanced sideways at the girl walking with him.

He was not going to bother explaining it to her, he concluded. It would be a waste of time, why should he bother anyway? She could think whatever she wanted to about him, "I'm simply too lazy to sit down and remember names." He said, trying to ignore the feeling at the bottom of his chest that told him that he maybe should've explained his viewpoint a bit more properly but he really didn't care about what she thought about him.

He was glad when they reached the classroom and he could part ways at last. He nodded when she thanked him for accompanying her to the class, even though it was more of a privacy invasion than a friendly walk to the class. At least it was over.

But then she had to open her mouth to utter words again and Noah's eyes widened ever so slightly, fortunately he wasn't facing her. Or maybe he should have looked her in the eye and made her realise how much he didn't want to talk to her. He simply walked to the last bench, took his bag off of his shoulders and sat down.

He had to think of a plan to escape. Hopefully the girl forgot about him and didn't bother coming back for him but God, he really didn't want to face her anymore. She was a good talker but he was in no mood for talking with anyone, she was going to make him late for classes if she kept talking to him.

But there were no more classes... But he still didn't want to talk to her for some reason. She was just oddly creepy. But how was he going to escape if she did end up getting him before he could escape? Would she let him go if told her he didn't want to talk to her? Or would that just make it a longer conversation and she would bug him even more? No... none of that matter. He had to focus in class for now.

The lecture was as always, interesting but not interesting enough for Noah to have paid complete attention. As the days went by, he found it harder to pay attetion. But he was still trying the best he could, he stayed in the library more to catch up to stuff he missed out in class.

After the lecture was over, he sighed and looked around, what should he do now?
