The Connections Between
Ezekiel strode through the corridors of Hogwarts on his way to the library. He waved to fellow Ravenclaws, as well as other house members who looked in his direction. With him he carried The Tales of Beedle The Bard, the book he had checked out a few days ago. He wondered about the girl he had met that day; Sonya Carlson. He believed she was a sweet girl, and was secretly hoping he would run into her again.
Ezekiel paused as he was walking. He sat on a bench placed against the wall in the long hall. Students passed, as well as professors. He leaned his head against the wall and closed his eyes.
Unfortunately, Ezekiel didn't sleep much the night before. He stayed up too late reading stories from the book he carried under his arm. He had already read them all by eleven o'clock, but couldn't help reading them over and over again. That feeling -- nostalgia some call it -- was the best feeling Ezekiel believed existed. Ezekiel thought maybe true love felt better, but he believed he'd never experienced it. Maybe one day?
With his eyes still closed, Ezekiel smiled as he drifted into a daydream created from memories. He couldn't help swaying a bit as he could hear the faint sound of his father's guitar playing in his head. Oh, how he wished he could go back to Ireland.
Still, Hogwarts wasn't so bad.

The Connections Between
Sonya was walking down the corridor with a smile on her face. She was fairly relaxed at the moment, having a pleasant day. She had gotten a good rest the night before, read a book in the morning and now was ready to go out and possibly socialize. Sonya loved meeting new people and wouldn't mind making friends with someone new, but at the moment she kind of hoped she'd run into someone she already knew. She wanted to maintain the connections she already had, as most of the people she had made friends with before were nice people.
One person in particular interested her; Ezekiel Aspen. She had met him a few days ago in the library and they bonded over a book they both read many times in their childhood. He was a really nice person and she thought that she had a lot of similarities. She wanted to see him sometime and get to know him more. It would be nice to make a close friend at Hogwarts.
Sonya hummed so herself as she walked, giving small waves to whoever caught her eye. As she proceeded she spotted Ezekiel sitting on a bench and closing his eyes. She smiled, just her luck. She walked up to him stopping when she reached his side. "Hey!" she greeted with a smile.

"Hey!" There came a familiar voice.
Ezekiel lifted his head, opening his eyes to see Sonya Carlson walking in his direction. He smiled. "Hey, Sonya." He tried pushing the tiredness from his voice. He could tell Sonya was joyously rested from her bright eyes and smile. He wished he could be like that.
As Sonya sat by his side, he held up his book. "I was headin' to the library to return this," he began, "but I didn't sleep very good last night. I guess I just sat here and started driftin' off."
Ezekiel was a bit disappointed in himself. He knew he could have controlled the amount of sleep he got, but he missed his mother too much. All night, Ezekiel read each tale from the story book over and over, to the point where tears began streaming down his face. He cried for the rest of the night, eventually losing consciousness at around 3 A.M. He felt like it was worth it, though. All the memories and happiness were worth the torture and tears.
Ezekiel rubbed his watering eyes, pretending he was just rubbing the sleep off. He looked at Sonya and smiled. He was happy to see her again. He enjoyed every moment with Sonya, and loved seeing her so happy when she took Ezekiel to the rehearsal room. Still, they had only met a few days ago. Who was Ezekiel to pour out his emotions onto her?
"It's great to see ya again. Whatcha been up to?"

Sonya could tell Ezekiel was pretty tired. He confirmed this and she gave a small sympathetic smile. He was tired, but didn't seem too grouchy about it. She hated it when people she was friends with got grouchy. It was just plain difficult to deal with. He rubbed his eyes and looked back at her and smiled. She smiled back at him with a light raise of her shoulders.
"Not much," she responded to his question, "Homework mostly." Her past few days had been uneventful. She hadn't been too social and focused on her studies and music, which was fun and relaxing but not always the most interesting. "That's to bad about your sleep," she added.
She was happy that she had seen him today. Sonya hadn't really had much interaction in a while and she was glad she found him specifically because she enjoyed his company the first time they had met. Ezekiel was a nice guy, funny, and occasionally a little awkward. She thought that they could become good friends if they spent more time together. They shared a lot of similarities as well as differences, which seemed like a decent balance. When they met at first they bonded over similar life events, like their moms and the books they read. It was comforting that they both knew about each others important life moments. "How have you been? Besides the sleep I mean," she asked.

Ezekiel nodded when Sonya expressed her pity on his lack of sleep. He had been beating himself up about it all morning. Some professors had even taken notice at Ezekiel's exhaustion. He smiled softly, listening to her ask about how he was.
"Besides sleep, I've been doin' pretty good. Charms and Astronomy are me best classes, so that's great. Astronomy is me favorite. Oops, ye probably already know that." Ezekiel smiled at his own forgetfulness, and looked back down at his book. He thought for a moment, then realized something. "Oh! I forgot," he said as he looked and turned towards Sonya. "I said I was gonna show you the Astronomy tower, right? Of course, I'm a little tired, but would you wanna come with me Friday night? I mean, it's not a stupid date or anything. I just wanna show you as a friend, ya know?" Ezekiel felt like he needed to make that clear. He had been made fun of before for doing friendship things with girls. Some people just don't understand, he thought.
Ezekiel had hoped Sonya wouldn't reject his offer. She had said yes before, but he worried that she would get the wrong idea. He didn't want to ruin that for her. He didn't even like her that way. He just wanted to be friends with someone, and Sonya was the first one he actually enjoyed talking to.

Sonya laughed at the last thing Ezekiel said then put a hand to he mouth. She hadn't even considered it being a "date." Quite frankly she though that that was a silly idea. A boy and a girl could just be friends and besides, they were both way to young to be thinking about that. "Of corse!" she grinned "We're friends. A boy and a girl can be friends without it being weird." She had to roll her eyes a bit at that, it was so ridiculous that everyone assumed that a boy and a girl hanging out had to be on a "date."
Sonya was happy that Ezekiel had invited her. She enjoyed his company and would like to get to know him more. "I'll go with you Friday night," she said, responding to his invitation, "It should be really fun!" When she had gone to astronomy in the past she was always tired and often got bored. The stars were pretty and quite interesting and all, it was just that it was so late at night. She was exited to hang out with Ezekiel there. It should be more interesting, since he really liked the class and they could talk about the interest in class.

"We're friends. A boy and a girl can be friends without it being weird."
Somehow, that sentence only made Ezekiel feel weirder. Back in Ireland, he had never liked talking about girls and dating. To him, it was mushy and gross. Not much has changed. He became more open on the topic, but wouldn't dream of dating anyone.
Sonya then responded to his invitation and said that she would go with him on Friday night. All the awkwardness faded and gave way to excitement. "Yes!" Ezekiel exclaimed. "Friday would be awesome!"
At this time, Ezekiel nearly forgot about him being tired. His new-found adrenaline covered his exhaustion, making him smile for the first time this morning.
He shifted the book to his left arm and stood. "Well, I uh," he began, "I've gotta get this book back to the library before the day ends. It was really good seein' ya again. See ya Friday?" He raised his eyebrows in questioning.
