A Snake and a Badger Meet Closed

Matrix would be walking to his common rooms from a class. Today was a boring lecture and Matrix tried not to fall asleep. He had succeeded, but barely. He would sigh, busy thinking about the homework that awaited him. Hogwarts was a cool place, but all good things have to have something. He was used to a lot of work, because his mom always gave more homework than necessary. He was so zoned out that he would not see what was happening in front of him. Suddenly he would snap back to the real world. Something black and green caught his eye.

Before realizing what was happening, he would feel a sudden collision on his right shoulder. He would drop a book. “Huh?” He would say confused. He would turn and face the person he had just bumped into She was a Slytherin girl who looked about his age. “ Oh my god. I am so sorry!” Matrix would bow to her apologizing. “ Are you okay?” He would ask, reaching down to pick up his book. “ I am such a klutz!” Matrix would think to himself. Matrix would sigh. So far, every encounter with people in Hogwarts led him to messing up in some way.

Paisley was walking down the corridor from Herbology, her books and most recent homework clutched in her hands. Her lips were pursed in a thin line, indicative of the turmoil going on inside of her head. The last few grades she’d gotten on her homework in that class had been absolutely less than desirable. Sure, they’d been passing grades, but the Slytherin girl wanted, no needed more. Acceptables and Exceeds Expectations weren’t what she was aiming for. No, she wanted Outstandings because, well, she wanted to be outstanding. Though she hadn’t been sorted in Ravenclaw she was still determined to uphold their work ethic. It was, undoubtedly, the only way she was going to be able to meet her ambitions. No, it was simply not good enough. She had approximately thirty minutes until her next class and she planned to spend as much of that time as possible studying her Herbology work.

The Bellweather was so immersed in her own thoughts that she also hadn’t been paying well enough attention to the path she was taking either. Thus, when the boy collided with her left shoulder is was an especially hard hit. She let out an ‘oof’ as she was thrown to the side, her own books and papers splattering across the floor. Those walking through the hallways side-eyed the pair, some scowling, some snickering, some minding their own businesses like they should have been. For a moment Paisley felt a flash of annoyance at the situation. After all, she didn’t have much time to spare, but she took a second to collect herself.

She took a few breaths in through her nose and out through her mouth as she stooped down to gather her items, pushing the boy’s in his direction when she came across them. He was stuttering along, uttering apologies along with some self-deprecation and she looked up at him. Though she probably could have done it without looking, she was immediately able to identify him as a Hufflepuff from his yellow lined robes. He had a mop of brown hair and rimmed glasses, and his brows were furrows in concern. “No one died and nothing’s broken. It’s not a big deal,” she said as she began gathering the last of her things before standing upright. She tucked her hair behind her ear again out of habit, looking up for a moment and seeing one of his papers a little further down the hallway. She walked over and grabbed it, turning around and handing it to the Hufflepuff.

Matrix would take some of her papers that had fell on the ground, out of her current reach and hand it back to her. From the corner of his eye, he would see that the paper was from Herbology. It had been graded as Acceptable. “Looks like I am not the only one getting these grades” Matrix would think relived. Lately he had been getting less and less Outstandings. Back in his Muggle schools, that is all he had gotten, but here, he had been trailing behind. He would then give him a paper of his that fell. “Thanks” Matrix would say returning to his normal smile. “No one died and nothing’s broken. It’s not a big deal,” The girl would say to him. “I guess your right!” Matrix replied, and would laugh a little. It almost seemed like a complete personality switch. He was relived that the girl seemed chill about it, rather than overreacting. “Matrix Kaida by the way” He would say introducing himself. He would take a second to look at his watch. He had about 25 minutes before his next class. He still had some time before he had to go. Around him, a few people would be laughing. Matrix would decide to ignore them. There is no need to be wasting time with some people. He would then take a closer look at the girl’s robes. “Slytherin” He thought to himself, looking at the green. He had never met one before. He heard from some people that a lot of Slytherin where mean and rude. So far, the girl in front of him seemed pretty nice.
