𝒯his was a bad idea. This was a horrible idea. This was an absolutely terrible idea. As Amadea stood in the corridor listening to Professor Lian explain what they were supposed to do, all Amadea could think was, this is a horrible idea. For starters, what if the spell went wrong? And secondly, why were they doing this in the first place. There were a thousand other problems Amadea had with this scheme that ran through her head. Amadea found some comfort in the fact that it was a professor giving her these instructions. Hopefully, that would prevent her from getting into any trouble from this. She had a horrible feeling that Professor Equinox was not going to enjoy this.
But Amadea couldn't back out now. She had already given her word that she would participate, and anyway, she didn't want to deal with the shame of backing out now. Somehow, her redheaded counterpart had roped her into this scheme. Amadea had been back at Hogwarts for less than a month and already she was headed to help Ami with yet another risky task. This task seemed slightly less dangerous than some of the adventures they had been on. At least there would be no rats involved with this one...hopefully. Amadea was aware of the fact that Ami was the polar opposite of her and definitely not the best influence, but Amadea loved her and knew that she needed some bonding time with Ami. After all, she had been gone from Hogwarts for almost six months. She had a lot of catching up to do, not only with school work but also with her friendships. She owed it to Ami, if not herself, to have a little fun and bond with her friend.
Amadea pulled out her wand, going over the spell in her head. She had learned it last year and it had been a while since she had practiced, but she felt fairly confident in her casting. She could do this. As she walked down the hall to enter the room, she paused outside of the office, unsure if she should be the first one in. Her heart was beating inside of her chest, and she was unable to move. The fact that the professor was still in the office was making her sweat. Why did she think she could do this? She took a deep breath, pulling herself out of her thoughts. She couldn't start second-guessing herself now. She just had to go for it. No thinking, just channel her inner Ami and go for it.

All Hands on Duck
Heading down the corridors towards @Amadea Campbell, Ami was in an extremely good mood. For now, all thoughts of her fight with Scott were gone from her head, and she was completely focused on finishing the gargantuan task of turning all the light fixtures in the corridor into ducks. "Dea!" she whisper-shouted, hustling down the corridors as quickly and quietly as she could. Even from that distance, she could see the hesitation and reluctance on Amadea's face, and she groaned internally. Why were all of her friends such avid rule-followers? Life was so boring when you followed the rules! "Dea, don't you dare chicken out, I swear to God you'll never live this down... Just do it! Nike, baby!"
Skidding to a stop next to Amadea, she slung an arm around Dea's shoulders and grinned at her. "Altogether, now!" Ami said with a wide smile, like a kindergarten teacher. "One, two, three... Avifors!" With a roll of her wrist and a flick of her wand, the sconce on the wall a few feet away from her was turned into a duck. She grinned at Amadea as she realized that she hadn't even needed to touch the sconce to turn it into a duck- progress!
"Much better than rats, yeah?" Ami said quietly, turning to Amadea with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I mean, I'm pretty sure pretty much anything is better than those stinking rats, but this like, way better than the rats." Maybe she needed to stop saying "rats" over and over again... Removing her arm from Amadea's shoulders, Ami tapped her chin thoughtfully as she looked for something else to turn into a duck.
Something about this whole situation felt a little sketchy- you know, one professor playing a hilarious prank on another. Was this even allowed? Ami was the self-proclaimed and wholly-undeserving queen of doing dumb things and getting away with them, and even she thought this whole prank was a ship ready to sink. But she had to admit, it was fun, so she couldn't complain too much. Besides, she got to spend quality bonding time with her new best friend! There was nothing else Ami would rather do.
"Hey, Amadea..." Ami said slowly, glancing from side to side and her gaze drifted across the corridors at the gaggle of students turning the light fixtures into ducks. "Amadea, do you have like... a book on you? One you don't mind turning into a duck?" Turning to Amadea, Ami had a nearly manic smile on her face as she said excitedly, "Let's make a duck!! Not on the walls, but wandering around. It'll be chaos, and it'll be beautiful. I like chaos."

All Hands on Duck
𝓑efore Amadea had worked up the courage to even take out her wand, her redheaded friend was beside her, whipping her wand out and pointing it at the nearest sconce. It promptly turned into a duck, and Amadea stared at it as she listened to Ami ramble on about...well, to be honest, Amadea wasn't exactly sure what Ami was saying. Maybe it was the American slang or maybe she was just thick, but Amadea had no idea what 'Nike baby' meant. She knew better than to ask about it, though, as Ami continued on, leaving no room for anyone to get a word in.
Amadea couldn't help but let a grin spread across her face as Ami slung her arm around Amadea's shoulders. The energy her friend was radiating was almost contagious. Amadea couldn't even fathom how someone could be so energetic and outgoing literally all the time, but somehow Ami managed to do it. Maybe she had taken all of the energetic genes from Amadea and given them to herself instead. As Ami mentioned the rats, Amadea shivered. That was a memory she would happily forget about. Though it had brought the two Hufflepuffs much closer together, Amadea definitely would have opted for a nice bonding moment next to the fire in the Common Room as they talked about the meaning of life rather than stuck in a dark and dreary passageway surrounded by dirty rats. Even the thought of the rats was enough to send a shiver down Amadea's spine; never again would she go near those passageways.
"You do have a point there," Amadea conceded. It was much better than the rats. The only thing she had to worry about here was the permanent wrath of Professor Equinox if he ever figured out she was involved in this prank. You're doing this for the House Points, she reminded herself. And for Ami. "I honestly can't think of much that is worse than the rats," she added, finally mustering up the courage to take out her wand. She copied Ami's motions, swishing her wrist and pointing at a candle. "Avifors!" she commanded before she could chicken out again. The candle promptly turned into a duck, which let out a loud quack, startling Amadea. She nearly dropped her wand and stumbled to pick it up.
She turned as Ami's voice rang out again, asking her if she had a book. As Ami explained her plan, the pit grew in Amadea's stomach. Sure, she wasn't a Prefect anymore and she didn't have to model behavior for the rest of the students. Still, Amadea didn't like trouble. If anything, she would be the one cleaning up after the trouble occurred. How was she friends with the most troublemaking person she knew? Amadea didn't know, but all she knew was that she was going to look like a giant chicken if she didn't say yes to Ami.
"Well," she said hesitantly, glancing at her bookbag that was laying on the ground a few feet away them from. "I have my textbooks," she said. "But I don't know if this is the best idea..." She trailed off, knowing how disappointed Ami was going to be. Amadea's mind was at war with itself. On the one hand, she really did not want to get in trouble. Getting in trouble was the last thing Amadea wanted to do. Ever. Why couldn't everyone just get along and be calm all of the time? All of this troublemaking was making Amadea's heart pound; if she wasn't so young she was sure she would be suffering from a heart attack right about now. But then on the other hand, Amadea hadn't seen Ami in so long. They hadn't had any adventures because Amadea had been gone. Didn't she owe it to her best friend to have a little bit of fun?
Sighing, she caved. "Okay you can use one of my textbooks," she said to her friend, walking over to her bookbag and pulling out, coincidentally, her Transfiguration textbook. "But," she added, "We have to turn it back into a book right after. One, I don't want it wrecking anything and two, I need my book for class." With these terms, Amadea held out the book to Ami, wondering if she would be agreeable to them.WC: 438 + 720 = 1158 - Errand complete

All Hands on Duck
Ami cheered quietly as Amadea whipped out her wand and followed her lead, turning one of the candles into a duck. Seriously, Cy was a total genius for coming up with such a fun errand to bond over, and Ami had no doubt that the Ravenclaw Head of House would legitimately enjoy his new yellow friends, rather than be annoyed. She vaguely recalled that the man had a pretty good sense of humor, so hopefully, no one would be smited with a giant bolt of lightning today. What a mood killer that would be! Still, she grinned widely at her best friend, pleased that Dea was loosening up a little bit. She needed it- they all needed it.
Those words would be her epitaph, there was no doubt about it.
A brilliant idea flashing through her head, Ami grinned at Amadea. "Watch this," she said arrogantly, before tossing the textbook in the air like a frisbee. "Avifors!" she called out confidently, rolling her wrist in the required infinity sign. However... even as her hand finished the movement, she could already tell that something was wrong. With a loud, cracking BANG! that @Alaric Equinox would not miss, if he was in the nearby vicinity, the textbook promptly exploded in midair.
Turning to Amadea with wide eyes, Ami yelled, "RUN!" Shrieking with laughter, she grabbed Amadea's wrist and scooped up her bookbag, pulling the poor girl behind her as the two Hufflepuffs ran for their lives before a certain Head of House lowered the boom on the two. "I'll buy you a replacement- promise!" she panted as the two skidded around a corner. Being caught... that would only mean certain death, and Ami was not going to die young.
As Ami opened her mouth to try and sway Amadea over to her side, she immediately clammed it shut as she realized that the other Hufflepuff was already started to be convinced. That... that was pretty easy; Ami thought that she would have to spend at least ten minutes convincing Amadea that it was a good idea, but it seemed that she was rubbing off on the normally rule-abiding girl. But, in the end, it was a genius idea! It wasn't like Ami's plans ever went off the rails... "It's foolproof," she said, with a convicted air about her. With that amount of confidence, there probably wasn't a single person in the world who doubted her ability to cast spells successfully, especially this one. "Nothing could possibly go wrong!""But I don't know if this is the best idea... Okay, you can use one of my textbooks."
Those words would be her epitaph, there was no doubt about it.
"Fair enough," Ami conceded with a shrug, before taking the textbook from Amadea. Examining it with a chuckle, she grinned at her fellow redhead. "Fitting," she said with a smile, pointing at the cover. "Alright, one cute duck, and then right back to a textbook... easy peasy.""But, we have to turn it back into a book right after. One, I don't want it wrecking anything and two, I need my book for class.
