Not Again
Anastasia Beckett desperately needed a break. She had set things on fire, jumped out of a building, fallen out of a tree, and overall had a stressful week. That wasn't even counting the fact she had pulled 2 all-nighters in a row and pretty much lived on coffee that week. She was drained and cranky and just needed to pause a moment to breathe. Unfortunately, neither her dorm nor the Gryffindor Common Room were exactly places that one could decompress and reenergize. Normally, she loved the high energy and constant noise and bustle of the Common room, but right now, she was irritated about that.Private Roleplay between Anastasia Beckett and @Annie Morgan

That was why the Gryffindor girl was sitting in a random hallway with a book and a candle at 8:30 on a Sunday night. She'd finally started reading Emma, which she had been meaning to read practically forever. The girl dove into the world of the novel, glancing at the clock every now and then so she wouldn't miss curfew. Not that she generally had issues with rule-breaking (the former prefect had counted and she had broken literally more than half of the school rules without really meaning to), but she really didn't have the time to get into trouble for something this stupid. Anyway, considering her other exploits this week, she refused to get into trouble for something as lame as this.
As the sun disappeared on the horizon, Anastasia adjusted her candle. She was mildly worried that it would catch her or someone else on fire. The girl loved fire. How could anyone not find it beautiful? However, she seemed to have a knack for setting others on fire without fully meaning to. It had happened twice while they were abroad, and once this week. That wasn't even counting the time she had burned Aurelia's diary on purpose. She was going to attempt to avoid any more bonfires for a bit since she was so behind on school and sleep. A small dramatic part of her was worried that she would end up burning Hogwarts to the ground. An even more dramatic part wondered if she would die in a fire due to some cruel irony of the universe. She shook off those thoughts. She had already accidentally set someone on fire once this week. Nobody's luck was that bad. Absolutely nobody.

Annie had remained in her dorm room awhile after dinner, catching up on some homework before she finally had enough. She snapped her book shut and tossed on a small jacket over her pajamas before heading out of the dorm room. The girl shoved her hands in her pockets as she entered the warm common room where a few sleepy and some chatty badgers sat. The Prefect nodded her head at some of the familiar faces before pushing open the door and stepping out into the hallway.
She had checked the time before heading out and it was rather late but not too bad yet. The brunette was simply antsy and decided it was time to get up and move. A walk couldn't hurt her right? I mean hey it's exercise. On the plus side she could also be saying that she is monitoring the hallways because she is a Prefect. It's a win-win situation. After awhile of walking laps up and down a few corridors she had her head clear and decided to stop and turn around to head back to the Hufflepuff dorms.
At this time Annie had lost track of time and it was getting dark quickly. Mind you Annie had picked up her wand but was afraid of pitch black darkness no less. She did a double take and swear she saw a light down and around the hallway in front of her. The girl narrowed her eyes, her eyebrows furrowing as she quickly yet silently walked towards the source of light. It didn't look like Lumos or any spell that would emit light out of a wand. Her curiosity was perked as she turned the corner rather quickly.

Not Again

Anastasia was vaguely aware of footsteps, but she didn't much care. She was pretty sure she still had time until curfew, and anyway unless the person was a complete ass, she doubted she would get in trouble for sitting and reading. Maybe a lecture if it was a professor and certainly sent to her room, but she was sure she could talk her way out of any actual risk of detention.
She focused back on her book and tried to continue reading. She heard the footsteps approaching and wanted to roll her eyes. What was this person doing? She rather wanted to smack whoever was approaching her. Honestly, she wasn't breaking any rules for once, and if she was, she hadn't gotten detention for far worse things, so she wasn't about to get it for this. She adjusted her candle and dove back into her book. She was mildly concerned that she would set whoever was approaching on fire, but she shook off those worries. Her luck couldn't possibly be that bad. She knew it wasn't. Unless the person was right up against the wall when they turned, in which case, quite frankly, they deserved to be set ablaze, there wasn't a chance of it. She continued reading, hoping whoever was coming her way would just leave her alone.

Annie figured that the person would have heard her footsteps by now. She was wondering why the person hadn't started running, sure she could catch them if they ran, she was pretty fast but the girl was curious why they hadn't moved. As she peered around the corner, first she noticed the light source was a candle. Then she lifted her gaze a little higher and saw the person was reading a book.
A little higher was the person, a girl which she may have been familiar but not enough so to remember her name. She raised a brow as to why the girl was reading in the hallway versus the library, but also assumed the library was closed by now. She had a blank expression on her face, one of which she carried when she was doing her Prefect duties. "Do you know what time it is?" Annie started off with asking the time, which was a rather simple question to see if the girl would say no and be clueless to the fact she was out of bed rather later or yes and try to be all smug with her.
The Prefect sighed as the girl was rather deep into reading her book. "Look, I'm not going to give you detention but you better get to bed soon or else some professor might wander upon you and you won't be so lucky. Annie shrugged, wanting to go back to the dorm room already and curl up in bed, but she had to deal with this little situation first.

@Annie MorganAnnnnnd, the prefect decided to bother her. Why would she do that? Ana was responsibly sure it wasn't curfew yet, so she wasn't technically doing anything wrong, and she was irritated that the girl saw fit to interrupt her reading. Still, Ana refused to get detention for something as lame as this, so she would have to be fairly polite, for now at least. Glancing up at the girl, she saw it was a Hufflepuff, about her age. They were probably about the same height, but Ana was reasonably confident she could take the other girl in a fight. What time was it? She glanced at the clock and saw that it was 9:58. Alright, it was close to curfew but she wasn't actually doing anything wrong. "What time is it? I really couldn't say," she said sweetly, then pointedly glancing at the clock. "It's evidently 2 minutes to curfew."
Still, it was time for her to head back to the Common Room if she was going to actually make it upstairs on time. She closed her book at stood, accidentally kicking the candle towards the Hufflepuff. The rest seemed to happen in slow motion. The candle skittered across the floor, and somehow Ana knew exactly what was going to happen before it had happened. Ah, well, flaming Hufflepuffs were commonplace and she was sure that this loser would know how to deal with it, considering how many times they'd caught on fire in the past few years.

Annie did not appreciate the sass that emitted from the girl. She began to take a step forward, a thin frown evident on her lips before she heard to small drop of the candle. It rolled towards her yet her feet were glued to the floor. By the time she had realized what was happening she jumped back with a yelp, a bit too late. One arm of her robes caught fire and the she panicked.
The girl's eyes were wide open but her face remained solid as a rock. Don't. Say. Anything. Just put me out. Now." Annie felt the fire lick at her arms and was sure she probably got a burn or two somewhere on her body from the intense pain and heat she felt. She kept her exterior cool, but didn't want to risk trying to cast a spell and her panicky nature make everything worse than it already was.
The Prefect tried slapping the her half burnt sleeve against the wall in an attempt to extinguish it but it was to no avail. The fire wasn't spreading fast, but the heat and smoke was another problem. This could end up bad for both of them since curfew was now in play for the girl, and a Prefect somehow ended up on fire when they were supposed to be "role models". With one last attempt for help Annie shouted at the girl. "You got me into this mess so get me out, and by all means if you don't trust me here-" She wiggled so the wand feel out of her robe pocket and landed onto the floor. "I don't care what you have to do, use my wand if you have too, help me before I get burnt to a crisp!"
The fire had now traveled up the sleeve of her arm and was slowly slithering it's way to her neck, licking at her pale skin, the heat making the girl uncomfortable, a pleading look in her eye as she stared at the other girl for help.

Not Again
@Annie MorganAnastasia sighed. Was it really too much to ask the universe for her to go a week without setting someone on fire? She would have found it hilarious had it not been so obnoxious. The prefect seemed to be having a complete breakdown. Ana was shaken back to the present when the girl flung her wand to the ground. What on Earth was she doing? Did she not know Extinguo? One would think that seeing as the prefect was a member of the most flammable house, she would be the master of that particular spell. A majority of the people Ana had managed to set on fire were Hufflepuffs, and she knew that they had caught on fire on at least two other occasions that Ana had nothing to do with.
The girl seemed to be utterly panicked and Ana arched an eyebrow at the panicked prefect as she drew her own wand. Honestly, this girl ought to calm down. It would be another minute or two before she was in any real danger and much longer than that before she was burnt to a crisp. "Oh, calm down, I can handle this," she said evenly. "Extinguo!
With a flick of her wrist, the spell shot from her wand. Ana was still contemplating punching the prefect, since she had interrupted Ana before it was actually curfew, acted as though Ana was doing something wrong, gotten herself set on fire, and then yelled at Ana as though all of this was her fault. This girl had absolutely gone insane at the slightest bit of trouble. "Well, are you quite alright now?" she asked, managing to conceal her smugness for the moment.

Not Again
Annie had tried closing her eyes, to block out the horrific event even though she felt the heat of the flames along her arm and neck. She knew the girl had judged her silently but Annie wasn't in the mood to argue right now. The girl bit back a retort when the other girl told her to calm down. How about I light you on fire and see how you like that.. As soon as the other girl had extinguished her, an overwhelming feeling of relief spread through her body.
The Prefect took a few deep breaths to calm her shaking hands and collect herself before opening her eyes and staring dead straight at the girl. She balled her fists, rather annoyed. "Thank you for helping me, but I should give you detention right here and now, but I guess I won't." Annie hissed lowly, trying to keep her cool. "Ana is it? Yeah I know you, you've set people on fire before and I happened to be your next victim hm?" She approached the girl quickly before stopping a few feet in front of her and bending down to pick up her wand.
"I may not have acted correctly in this situation but what would you do if you were terrified of fire and ended up being on fire?" Annie's voice shook, not because of rage but because of the overwhelming emotion she felt, as tears stung at the corners of her eyes. At this point her eyes were ablaze as she held her gaze with Ana. "I think it would be best if you take your book and yourself back to your dorm room now.." She spoke coolly, all excess emotion from her eyes and voice had disappeared as if she hadn't just had an outburst and been set on fire.

Ana arched an eyebrow at the girl snapping at her about how she ought to get detention, but she wasn't going to. Still, she tried to keep the sass to a minimum, since clearly this girl had exactly zero sense of humor. Ana really didn't see why this girl was being such a drama queen about all this. They went to Hogwarts -dangerous things were bound to happen on a frequent basis. If you couldn't handle the reality of your school, then that seemed to Ana like something that was a thing that you ought to deal with on your own, not take out on others.
An innocent and surprised look crossed her face when the girl began to speak about how she had set other people on fire. Honestly, it was one person. And it was only last week, and quite frankly, he had had it coming. And anyway, it had been as much his fault as her own that he had caught on fire. She made a mental note to murder that boy since she hadn't told him so much as her name and he had somehow managed to spread rumors that she was an arsonist and a sociopath."For the record, both this time and the one other time that you may be referencing were complete accidents. I apparently have bad luck when it comes to fire," Ana informed the other girl, fiddling with her book as she put her wand back in its pocket.
Annnnnd, now the girl was crying. Anastasia knew that she wasn't exactly an example of perfect mental health, but even she wasn't this much of a crybaby. She popped her lips as the girl made an attempt at seeming like an authority figure. It would have worked, had the prefect not been on the verge of tears only moments before. "Well, good night, love, and I hope the rest of your patrol isn't half this interesting," Ana replied. With that, she turned on her heel and tossed her long dark hair as she turned. She walked far slower than her usual brisk pace, as though to prove a point to the whiny little prefect. Honestly, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen school that catches on fire every other week.
