The next few moments were, by far, the most confusing thing Charles had yet to witness. The girl, Miss Procoppio, decided that attempting to throw a feather at the painting would be a good idea- which Charles had already concluded, in the few seconds before her failure, wouldn’t be.

What he hadn’t concluded, however, is that the damned thing would end up at his nose, which caused a rather ceremonious sneeze- making his body shudder as he swatted the feather away. “Nice going, Procoppio.” he said a bit flatly, rubbing his nose in retaliation to the lingering feelings. His charm for her was quickly dwindling, as she continued to call him Chuck. usually he would have kept cordial words intact, but he was quickly loosing his patience with her and the odd hunt they had found themselves in— him, Ami, and...

Ah, no. It was just them. Scott had slipped away.

”Its Charles. And if you’re so insistent on calling me by that ridiculous name, I suppose I should be calling you Ami in return.” he tried to keep a sense of flat, unamused dispose while he looked around, unsure of what was going on. So, while he wasn’t particularly fond of her, he followed Ami’s lead. She’d probably have a better idea. “And yes, I suppose it is just us, what’s the next move, then?” he stared up at the paintings. The one that was hurt, and then the adjacent ones.

His patience was thin, and they hadn’t seen or heard where to go. So, he decided to do what they did on his favourite true crime telly shows.

Interrogate.

With the flick of his wrist and the swish of his wand, which had been resting at his thigh up until that moment, he attempted to select one of the paintings which had not been talked to yet with a casting of Wingardium Leviosa .

Should his casting be successful he planned to lower the painting to the edge of the stairwell, tilting it over the edge, in order to intimidate it into telling them the truth. Effectively, to the best of his knowledge in both borderline-trauma interrogation and in how paintings worked, he was attempting to scare them into telling him the truth through the fear of shaking them out into the abyss below. ”Well go on, tell us, what’s just happened to that one right there?!” he would demand, pointing to the injured painting.

If his cast is not successful he will stand there embarrassed because he failed to cast Wingardium Leviosa.

Thwack.

The candy Starlee was attempting to eat apparently had other plans. Instead of aiming it into her mouth, she somehow managed to shove the Lemon Sherbert candy directly into her eye. "OW!" she said, quite loudly, as she dropped the unwrapped candy to the ground. 'Well... no way I'm attempting to eat THAT again...' She was a bit sad about it, but it was about time to get down to business.

She decided to huddle back in with the group of Viridian Vipers, after quite the look from Dmitri causing her even more unease, as well as perhaps some shame in her unhelpful antics. They were discussing things they had found or noticed about the painting and the man, but Starlee stayed silent as she really had no clue what was going on. She should have paid more attention really...

It was at that moment she saw Martyna lead the group up off toward the Gryffindor Common Room. Oh no. No, there was no way Tina was going to figure this mystery out before Starlee did. Not. A. Chance. She saw Henry dash after the group as well, so this gave Starlee a reason to follow besides just stalking Tina. So, off it was to where the Gryffindors were housed.

Location 2

Starlee ran after the students heading up to the Gryffindor Common room and skidded to a halt when the cat turned into a corridor just before the portrait. The rest of the students eagerly followed, hoping to find out more information. Her fellow dueler Henry proceeded to ask the painting questions. Probably better to not overwhelm the guy... although he was quite rude to the fancily dressed up lot. She figured she should take another route of investigation... perhaps something in the portrait would have a clue? She scanned the painting fervently in the hopes of finally being useful to the Vipers.

The portrait said nothing - he could only splutter and cough as he lay, slowly dying on the floor of his painting, probably stuck like that for the rest of his time. Scarlett gritted her teeth, annoyed she couldn't find anything, do better, be more initiative. It looked like some of the others students were chattering among themselves about clues, but Scarlett still didn't have any idea of what was going on - the deeper picture - even after all her effort. Well she would just have to try harder.

Scarlett's eyes flickered over the portrait and she was going to try and study it and see what she could figure out, but at that moment, Tina departed for the direction of the Gryffindor Common Room, and Scarlett overheard whispers about paintings. Desperate to get involved and start to do something, Scarlett followed after her badger friend, knowing a lot about their common room, being a Gryffindor herself.

On the rush to the common room, Scarlett noticed creepy lights, as if the school had adapted itself for mood lighting. She glared at the lights as if willing them to get lost, before continuing. She ran as fast as her unathletic legs could carry her before halting where everyone was halting - a side corridor with red carpets, paintings and dead ends. They had all gathered round a painting of a bravado-type guy with a red robe embroidered with golden lions. In his hands, he held something like the sword of Gryffindor. Scarlett remembered the stories Fiona told about the war and the founders when she wasn't so busy as an Auror.

The man insulted them for a bit, and Scarlett - hating people throwing comments, especially at her - lashed back out, "What do you mean, tots? If you're gonna be this rude, then fine - yes, we are going - I mean, we were - going to a party and you weren't invited you - you-" Scarlett paused, thinking of the right expression. "You son of a -"

She paused there, letting the words linger before turning to Henry, who was nearby, and asking him, "You have any idea what's going on? Any info or whatever?"

She looked back at the portrait, searching for something. Anything.

The scene the Slytherin walked into was definitely an interesting one, with everything from masked students to ghostly cats to bleeding paintings. Nick took a bystander role for the first minutes he was in, trying to absorb it all since he came from the costume party rather than the masquerade. Henry affirmed that he didn't miss much, but he definitely didn't deserve to take a leadership role or say anything meaningful to the hunt yet.

The painting the cat led the group too was definitely a strange one. The inscription depicts someone saving someone else, but there was only one person there, definitely not being saved. Nick wanted to save the man if this wasn't his intended position, but the group was continuing on. Sure, he could stay and catch up with the group later, but he had a feeling that he could honestly figure out what was going on with this bleeding guy more if he continued on.
Second Location
Nick followed along with the rest of the group as the ghostly cat continued on, sticking with Henry and Cash still since the two of them seemed to know what they were doing. Not only that, but he considered them his friends so it made him feel less panicked. On the way, he sees something glint in the corner of his eye. Turning his head and breaking off from the group, as to not bump in with anyone, Nick sees some candy and bends down to pick it up. Odd to find it here, a Sherbert Lemon, a muggle candy. Picking his head up he sees some Toothflossing Stringmints. After picking that up, a Peppermint Toad hopping around.

After collecting all the candy, Nick notices that the group is far ahead. Stuffing the toad and stringmints in his pocket, he stands up and runs to catch up to the group. He decides to unwrap the Sherbert Lemon and pop it in his mouth, not learning his lesson from the Cauldron Cake in the Costume Party. It tasted as he expected, stale lemon candy. He let it dissolve in his mouth as he pondered what caused this candy to be left where it was. Was it abandoned by one of the fellow candy-loving students, or was it somehow related to this odd chase or Star the cat?

Nick continued to ponder that thought as he caught up to Henry and Cash. "Hey, there was some candy just, like, lyin' on the floor? Ye want any ye two?" Nick said, already having an inkling to their response. Most people wouldn't be willing enough to have candy to pick it up off the floor, especially that of a largely populated school. But Nick had a bit of an obsession with candy, so he didn't care.

Even after following the group for several minutes now, Dan still had no idea what was going on. Maybe it was because so many people were talking and interacting at once. Maybe it was because so much was happening at once.
Maybe it was because there was an extreme overabundance of people in one thread making extremely long and well detailed posts that make it impossible for ADHD people to read and catch up without going insane.
Who could tell, really?

All Dan knew was that he was with Andy, and they appeared to be in Gryffindor tower... Dan never thought he would be up here. As long as he couldnt see out of any window, his acrophobia wouldn't trigger.
When he looked, Dan saw that Andy was interrogating a painting... On the outside looking in, that looked... REALLY bad. It made Andy look like he was insane. He knew there was a person in the painting, but... how does one threaten the denizens of a painting who could just leave it?

"Ehh, Andy? Are ye threatenin' a paintin', mate? Ye know he can just leave, right?"

Dan really wanted to know what was going on.

Gregorí inwardly collected as much information as he could pick from the bits and pieces he had overheard or seen by his own eyes. The Mexican was not normally an organized person (or so he tended to credit himself), but now with all the chaotic condition that surrounded him (and every student joining this game - or was it really a game?), it seemed that listing all pieces of information he had gained was necessary if he wanted to figure out what was actually happening. Thus, mentally the Horned Serpent boy made a note for himself:

1) There was blood everywhere. On the horse-riding ghost (or so Gregorí assumed), in the painting subject Elisabeth had tried to save (but unfortunately failed, at least for now), on the floor nearby the painting. (It was lucky he was not a squeamish person.)
2) Inscribed just below the painting was Paran Taja saves Laiks Denbora.
3) The ghost leading them was a cat ghost named Star (nicknamed by a student), not a human one.

It was only three clues, but it gave the boy plenty to think about.

First: Elisabeth had tried to physically interfere the events taking place in, or the subject of, a painting but she failed; so did the other students who had attempted to cast healing or repairing spells. But could ghosts do so? If yes, did this mean the horse-riding ghost had been involved in hurting the man in the picture?

Second: Could it be that the blood on the floor came from either that ghost or that painting subject? (Most likely no, though.)

Third: Was the wounded man in the picture Laiks Denbora? If so, where was Paran Taja? Was he dragged away to some other painting? Or could he step out of the pictures and become a ghost instead?

Fourth: Who was Star actually? Was it a real cat or was it an animagus? Could human ghosts still transform into their animagus forms if they had had this ability as wizards?

Fifth: Combining the third and fourth question - was it possible that Star was actually Paran Taja in his animagus form? (Or was Taja really a cat? Who said that animals could not save humans?) Was he cursed that he could not get back to his home - the picture - but still, he tried to save Denbora?

As he thought, Gregorí's brown eyes scanned the scene. He tried to observe, but what he was trying to observe, he himself really had not clue, so basically everything - the floor, the paintings, the wall, the ceiling. His eyes also attempted to find Elisabeth. Where was the poor Hufflepuff? Was she still nervous? Gregorí wished he could find her soon and be there for the younger student.

Robert flushed with embarrassment as it seemed that the portrait Callista had been talking to was not the one who stabbed the man in the painting. In fact, the man was actually quite helpful, telling them that the actual villain could be found near the Gryffindor common room. Lowering his wand, Robert realized this actually made sense. "You know, I did notice a piece of red fabric with a lion on it lying in the grass of the painting. Maybe it ripped off of the portrait who stabbed the man." Of course, all these speculations were just that, speculations, until Robert saw the ghost cat start to move. Not sure what else to do, and honestly a bit lost all together, the Ravenclaw decided the best thing to do would be to follow it.
Second Location
As it turned out, the mystery did have to do with the common room of the courageous house. After having been living in the castle for a month and a half, Robert was finally starting to learn his way around, and could tell they were going in that direction. However, the cat turned down a side corridor the Ravenclaw had never noticed before right before reaching the common room. Following the cat, the boy was startled to see another painting hanging at the end of the corridor with a single person portrayed in it, dressed in a red robe, holding a sword, and very obviously short tempered.

It seemed obvious that this was the person who had stabbed that other portrait. An angry, armed, man with a robe that's fabric matched the piece found at the scene of the crime? Any detective would laugh at the simplicity of this mystery. However, after his previous embarrassment, the Ravenclaw wanted to be one hundred percent sure before doing something rash. If the robe the man was wearing seemed to be torn with a part of it missing, the boy would take that as proof that this was the attacker. Until proven guilty, he was innocent in Robert's eyes.

Mars had been a tiny bit too lost in their thoughts. When they looked up, it seemed like half of the crowd had disappeared, trickling away to the Gryffindor Common Room. It made sense—they'd heard whispers of other paintings mentioning the area and there was a red scrap of fabric just in front of the painting. Still, they were rather enamored by the portrait. They felt bad for the man inside.

Stepping up to it, Mars ran a glance over the contents, grimacing at the blood still trickling out of the wound. Putting a hand to it, it felt just like a normal painting, canvas and cold oil. Shoot, there had to be something they could do.

They'd seen a few kids attempt to cast spells at it, ask around to other paintings, even try to communicate with the cat. A few of them had noticed things, the inscription at the bottom of the painting being one. They were getting somewhere, at the very least.

Wandering over to the side, Mars brushed a finger over the wooden frame. Maybe... well this was a long shot, but they didn't have any better ideas. Besides, wasn't there always a secret room hidden behind the paintings in spy movies? It couldn't hurt to give it a go.

Sticking their wand back in their belt and silently thanking themselves for wearing a pantsuit and not a floofy dress, Mars curled their fingers around the frame. Well, here goes nothing. They set their feet into the floor and pulled, praying with everything they had that they didn't break this probably very expensive portrait and its bleeding inhabitant.

Other mention(s): -
Nothing seemed to help the poor painting subject; not the Muggle first aid technique Elisabeth had attempted to perform nor the spells other students had tried to cast.

The eleven-year-old suddenly felt hopeless.

This, combined with the sudden realisation about her surrounding which crept back - that everything was chaotic, there were people physically surrounding her even though they paid almost zero attention to her in particular - threw Elisabeth back to the uncomfortable feeling which she had felt earlier. The girl felt like huddling on the floor right there and then, but she felt she was glued on the spot and simply could not move, it was as if she had been hit with a Petrificus Totalus except that she could still stand up.

Moreover, huddling on the floor like an armadillo protecting itself would both make her white gown dirty and draw attention to herself, so Elisabeth ditched the idea right away.

Her black eyes found Gregorí Erkens, and Elisabeth desperately tried to reach the student from Ilvermony. That boy was a saving grace, the only person around who radiated some kind energy that comforted the Hufflepuff; which was sort of funny because most people found him unsettling.

She managed to reach him back, apologising for leaving suddenly. Honestly, now she just wanted to take a break. She had just considered about following Star, but now she had no more energy to do so, particularly after noticing how many students did that. "¿Estás bien?" she asked Gregorí, wondering what he would prefer to do now.

All the while, Elisabeth felt a little ashamed of herself. She was usually very sharp and rather enjoyed puzzles like this, but today she was a mess. But then again, it was when she was working alone, with one partner, or in the most extreme case in a small group. Tonight she was a total nobody in the middle of a sea of people who did not know each other and did not even try to cooperate in an organised, quiet way - everything that was happening tonight was never an element of Elisabeth's.

“So you are looking for a treasure? Do I look like a treasure map to you? Pfft, the young people of today. Shush you.” One of the people said. Treasure map? Well, he might have misunderstood her…what she wished to say was to find what the rider was looking for. She was not finding a treasure herself.

“You have misunderstood me, sir.” politely she replied. “I’m saying, it would be nice if you could point out to me what the rider is looking for. Me myself is not looking for a treasure, and I do not want to.”

The words were polite. Though, to be honest, Lindsey was quite annoyed with the man’s “insult”, she just wished to find out more. Sometime you have to bare in order to get what you want. Her maternal grandfather taught her that when she was young.

Throwing some curls to her back, Lindsey made her way back to Wyatt. “Heard nothing.” she announced to him, with some disappointment. Her chocolate brown eyes wandered around. “People are leaving…” She muttered. “They are heading to the Gryffindor common room…” still it seemed that she was muttering, though the words were loud enough for Wyatt to hear. “Actually I don’t think it would have any use staying here…we should move on. What do you think?”

Indeed. No way to stay here anymore. She had casted a spell on the sweets, and nothing happened. She had tried observing the surroundings, but she saw nothing. She had tried talking to the portraits, but they told her nothing…Merlin, why was she so unlucky?? What if they move on now…could she find something useful? Solving riddles was quite her cup of tea, though the skill didn’t seem working today. Lindsey had never regarded herself as good at observing, and she had decided not to observe anymore — no use, at least it seemed now.

Hey eyes went back to the portraits over there. A girl [Silver], whom she had never seen around before, was trying to talk with them. Lindsey shrugged. Maybe that girl would success in conversing with the portraits…wait.

“A minute, okay?” hurriedly she turned to Wyatt. “I’d be back very soon. And then we could move on if you like.” and then, the second year rushed towards the portraits that she had just parted.

“Listen. Yes, you, you, you as well, and you, Mr Treasure Map.” she said to the portraits, while giving an affectionate glance to the wounded man. “You have to help me. Pray, in the name of — of Albus Dumbledore,” finally she came up with someone who might have an effect on these people, “What’s. Going. On. Tell me about it. About who’s the rider. About where to search — except the Gryffindor common room, I know that already. About what’s and whose the cat is. About any secret plans you know. About anything suspicious. About everything.” she was speaking fast, and Lindsey highly doubted whether the portraits had heard her clearly. Then she lowered her voice, to a volume that only herself and the portraits could hear. “If you refuse to tell me about it, I will hex or jinx you — I know a good deal of spells. An Incendio or an Immobulus sounds really nice, don’t you think?”
