Reading and walking is never a good idea. Despite the many times Robert had attempted it, he had never gotten much better, and yet also never learned his lesson. At this moment, he wasn't reading a book as normal, but was instead staring intently at a two sided card he had found that morning, resting at his normal spot in the Great Hall. It was quite obviously halloween themed, with jack-o-lanterns, pastries designed like cemeteries, and kittens wearing pointy hats. The muggle-born wondered what halloween would look like in a world in which ghosts, vampires, and werewolves actually exist. Would it be that much more scary to know that all those nightmares live in this castle, or would it be that much more lighthearted to know that for the most part, they were all pretty harmless? The Ravenclaw hoped for the latter, but the glances he'd had of the other card option showed that it could be either one.

Unfortunately, Robert was too busy ruminating about the future to pay attention to the present. Maybe if he hadn't been distracted, he wouldn't have gone flying when he tripped on an uneven part of the floor, but knowing his clumsy self, it probably wouldn't have mattered much. The young boy took stock of his injuries. There were couple scrapes on his hands and knees, and his legs would probably be colored purple for a couple days, but other than that, he seemed fine. The card that had been responsible for his (literal) downfall had fallen out of his hand, a couple feet away from him. However, when he tried to stand up to get it, his left ankle promptly gave out, causing him to have a much sooner reunion with the floor than he had intended. He didn't think it was seriously injured, just sprained, but that didn't give him much comfort. He'd caught a couple glimpses of the new nurse, a french man with a large black caterpillar thriving on his upper lip. Something about him put Robert a bit on edge, making him want to avoid the hospital wing as much as possible. With this thought as motivation, he attempted to get up again, the results this time not being much different than before. "Ow..." he let out.

Ileen normally tired her best to ignore her peers in the corridors when she was switching classrooms or had lunchbreak – she had no intention to get involved in any stupid fights or arguments that seemed to be everywhere in that school caused by troublesome idiots. But today was different. The brown eyes of the young Slytherin were attentive to the hustle and bustle around her as she walked through the corridors, slower than usual on the way to her Common Room.
Today, the call planning group, including her, had spread the ‘Save the Date’ cards for the upcoming Halloween ball all over the school and she was curious about the reaction of her fellow students. So far, she had not been disappointed and as much as the excitement before the Blossom Ball had annoyed her, it now filled her with pride and excitement. She could already picture it – a vision that brought a thoughtful smile on her lips.
Still lost in thoughts she walked into a less crowded corridor that she normally used even though it was a bit longer than the way through the big corridors – less risky to get jinxed or to bump into one of the idiots she actively was avoiding.

Indeed, this corridor was absolutely empty except for one boy who was sitting on the floor. Ileen stopped and blinked in confusion as she watched the young Ravenclaw who tried to get back on his feet and failed. The touch of pain appeared briefly on his young face and he seemed to struggle with his left ankle.
Ileen automatically felt after the first aid kit that she had always carried with her during the summer camp - even though she was still at the beginning of her healing career, she was now sensitive enough to recognize an injury and wanted to help. How did you learn to heal? You just had to do it. But she hadn’t had it with her right now. Whatever.
With a worried frown she made a few quick steps towards the young boy – was he a first year? He probably was the same age as her or one year younger. She couldn’t tell, even though she couldn’t recall his face, a fact that didn't say much, since she hadn't spent much time with her classmates last year. Her long brown hair fell open on her back and she firmly stroke one of the strands from her eyes. She would try to make eye contact with the boy and her gaze would reflect her worry. Her normally neutral facial expression was softer because it looked like an accident and not a self-inflicted action, something that made her feel much milder and was also crucial to her helpfulness.

Her straight posture and the seriousness in her eyes made her seem much more secure than she felt. She registered the cards, which were not far from the boy on the floor but did not pay any further attention to them – there were more important things now. “Hey. Are you okay? What happened?

Apparently, Robert had not learned from his other two attempts at getting up. Using his hands and foot to move himself out of the center of the corridor and over to the wall, he proceeded to carefully stand up without putting any weight on his hurt ankle, leaning against the wall for support. However, in this case, the third time was not the charm, and the young boy, not realizing how slippery the walls were, promptly fell over again. Finally giving up, he settled for putting his back up against the wall and waiting calmly until someone found him.

Thankfully, that happened sooner rather than later with the appearance of a Slytherin girl, judging by her robes. Robert wasn't quite sure when she had entered the corridor, being more focused on facing the magnitude of the task of "getting up." He only registered her presence when she called out to him, asking if he was alright. A bit startled, he jumped, causing slamming his head backwards into the wall behind him. Wincing in pain, he cheerily replied, "Oh, don't worry, I'm totally fine! This sort of thing happens all the time."

And the sad fact was, this sort of thing did happen all the time. Unfortunately, the young wizard was not the most graceful of people at the best of times, let alone when he was distracted, which was normally the case. "You know, the floor is a much better seat than most people give it credit for." Unlike his earlier statement, this was pure sarcasm, Robert's wry smile showing that he was only joking. It was cold, hard, rough, and slightly damp in many places. To make it worse, the eleven year old didn't exactly have much natural padding between his tush and the floor, being made up of more skin and bone than fat. "Despite how comfy it is down here, it would be real helpful if you could help me up," he remarked with a hopeful smile. The young boy didn't really feel like explaining the events leading up to his seat on the floor, but was still happy to give a bit of context when asked. "Uneven floors and distracted walking are not a good combination, let's just put it at that."

Ileen herself flinched in shock at the strong reaction of the young boy, who was just fighting his way up the wall. Obviously she had frightened him and caused him another injury Ouch. She grimaced in sympathy and raised both of her hands as to show that she was unarmed – a signal of peace. I don’t want to hurt you!I’m sorry. Sorry! I didn’t mean to make it… worse?” Merlin, this boy seemed to be in greater trouble than she had thought. But at least, he took it with a sympathetic attitude and a great portion of self-humor. He was… adorable.
Ileen tilted her head and frowned at the boy’s explanation, how he had ended up here, but there was also a half sceptic, half amused smile tugging on the corners of her mouth.

With a shrug and a soft sigh, she made her way quickly to the boy and sat down next to him, gifting him with a warm smile. She leaned against the wall, stretched out her legs and typed exaggeratedly thoughtful with her finger against her chin, before she turned to the boy with a broad grin. “Hm. I guess you are right. At first, I thought you were overselling it, but it’s surprisingly comfortable.
With the smile, her dark brown eyes narrowed to half moons and a warm sparkle in them gave away that she was only teasing the young boy.
And yes, one thing a time.” She briefly searched for a book or a piece of paper, but the Ravenclaw carried nothing of the sort with him. Either he had lost his distracting reading, or he had packed it away while waiting for help – although if he had been waiting here for a long time, a book would have been just the thing to kill time with. Her gaze returned the ‘Save the Date’ cards for the Fall Ball, which she had helped to design herself. “If you have read the cards, I can understand that though. They are quite exciting," she admitted with a slight giggle and then offered him her hand. “And sure, I will help you. I’m Ileen.

She would wait for the boy to give her his name as well before shifting her focus back on his hurt ankle. He really seemed to be in pain and it would be the best to bring him to the hospital wing. But that was far and he would have to hobble there on one leg. Of course, Ileen would bring him and try her best to support him, but maybe… maybe she could already do something to ease the pain and stabilize it. But therefore, she would have to examine it first. “Hm. I think helping you back up is not gonna get us very far. It's your leg, isn't it? Ankle? Do you mind if I have a look at it? I’m not a nurse, but…” She hesitated. Yeah. But what? I read a lot about injuries and thought I could make it better by explaining what’s hurt? No. Just no. “…I can see if I can do anything,” she finally ended up lame and brushed a strand of hair from her eyes.

Robert valiantly tried to fight down a burst of laughter at the girl’s unnecessary apology, but despite his best efforts, an amused grin still made it through. “Don’t worry, it’s not your fault,” he replied with a wave of his hand. As she slid down onto the floor next to him, he wasn’t able to resist letting out a joyful snort at her response to his playful sarcasm. The young boy had already taken a liking to her, although in fairness, this wasn’t such a hard feat for someone to accomplish.

But that’s so boring!” he responded to her sensible advice with a mischievous grin. Robert giggled again when the Slytherin seemed to piece together the card lying on the ground nearby with the “distracted walking” he’d mentioned. “Yes, they really are wonderful reading material,” the boy replied, a bright sparkle in his eye. Reaching for the extended arm, careful not to move his ankle, Robert shook her hand. “Aw, thanks. I’m Robert, nice to meet you.

Robert’s eyes turned to curious ones as Ileen took a closer look at his hurt ankle. He’d spent enough time around scientists to recognize that analytical gaze, seeing what’s in front of you, but also thinking about relevant past knowledge, comparing the subject of your attention to other pieces of information, diagnosing, weighing options. “Yup, ankle,” he confirmed, in response to the girl’s question. “Be my guest!” Robert gestured toward his extended foot with a warm smile directed at the Slytherin.

Cocking his head at the lame explanation for her request, Robert realized she wasn’t telling him something. It was obvious she was well-versed in this topic, so why didn’t she just say that? “You know, there’s no reason to be ashamed about being interested in a subject.” It was a bit of a long shot, but it was the only reason he could think of that made the slightest amount of sense. Both in his muggle school and at Hogwarts, Robert had often been put into the difficult position of knowing a tidbit of possibly useful, or maybe just interesting, information unexpected for someone his age. It could be hard to offer up that fact without seemingly showing off, especially around other children.

Ileen’s dark brown eyes sparkled as the young boy commented on the save-the-date card. Though she picked up the sarcasm, she couldn’t help but be proud of them. They turned out way more exciting and auspicious than she had hoped. And after all, she had contributed something here as well.
Her warm smile turned into a smirk and with her head crooked she crossed her arms. “Right. I bet the people who designed it are true artists.” She nodded and had to suppress the urge to stick her tongue out. “Will you attend the ball? And if yes, rather the fun or the serious part?” Damn, she was just so curious...
Then she remembered the real problem and the smile slided of her face. They could fool around here, but Robert was hurt and she should take him to the Hospital Wing.

Okay then, Robert. Let’s check how badly you destroyed yourself.” She narrowed her eyes. They were fixed on his ankle and after his approval, she gently touched it and carefully bent it in different directions. Looking up with a concerned frown she tried to catch his expressions. “Does that hurt?
Most likely, it did. She noticed the swelling just above the ankle. Carefully she pulled down the sock and looked at the damage. The bruise was already starting to turn blue. That indicated a tear in the outer ligaments - nothing that couldn't be fixed in the Hospital Wing. But it was a very painful injury. Worse than a broken bone. Full of compassion, Ileen contorted her face.

The pain did not seem to affect the clever Ravenlcaw's mind, however, because he unerringly picked out exactly the reason that made Ileen so shy and uncertain when it came to the subject of healing. She was proud that she had learned so much, yes, but she also knew that she couldn't do so much yet, and she didn't want to look like a weird freak who pretended to know everything and then stood around uselessly in case of doubt.
The blood rushed to her cheeks and she bit her cheek from the inside. "You really are a Ravenclaw by heart, huh?” Her smile turned out to be a bit crooked. “Gain knowledge for the sake of knowledge. Regardless if you can use it, right?” Oh, she really wished she were a Raven, too.

Ileen tried not to get into that and pulled her chestnut wand. Still looking at Robert she cleared her throat. “It seems like you have a tear in your ligaments. I will bandage it. That should easen the pain and help us get you to the Hospital Wing.
Carefully, she tapped his ankle with the tip of her wand. Her heart was pounding and her face was still pink. “Ferula.

Maybe it was because the clever Raven had noticed her insecurity and shyness, but even though she had practiced it so hard, the advanced third year didn’t work. Instead of sending some bandages to the boy’s ankle, it backfired and blindfolded her with one bandage over her own eyes.
With a hot face, burning in embarrassment, Ileen pulled the bandage away and shook her head in disbelief. “Wow. Demonstration effect. That has never happened to me before. Sorry.” Trying to overplay her situation with humor she gave him a grin. “But now you see - you better be careful or I can wrap your whole body in bandages. Making you a mummy.” She pulled a thoughtful face and tapped her chin with the left index finger. “That would be a cool Halloween costume though.

Okay, enough with the chit chat. Focus, Ileen. Once again, she tapped the boy’s ankle with her wand and spoke the incantation. This time, the spell worked perfectly fine. Some white bandages appeared and were wrapped around Robert’s ankle. Ileen knew that the spell had the additional effect to ease pain.
With a relieved sigh, she smiled at the boy. “Better?
