Emma let out a sigh of relief as class was disbanded and the school day was over, she was ready to head back to her dormitory and call it a night, but the walk just seemed so far away especially coming from the fifth floor of Hogwarts. Usually, transfiguration was a subject she could get by without any issue, but every day had its exceptions. Maybe it was the spell casting she had trouble with. After numerous trials at conjuring birds from thin air, she concluded it was best to move on and practice the spell a couple of days later, that is, if she determined to remember or not. Overall, she was rather frustrated. An easy subject she transcended in confirmed the school year was getting tougher and she had to keep up. She didn't exactly have a choice.

Each step that belonged to the Grand Staircase seemed to disappear. Even going down the stairs seemed troublesome as if descending two steps at a time. Her day had been perfectly fine until her last class, perhaps it was just a way of testing her. Right before transfiguration began, the day was going great. She giggled, she talked and even ate breakfast for the first time in weeks since the last month of the school year arrived.

Sealing herself off from all social communication, she proceeded down the staircase to the fourth floor, catching a glimpse of the many students that had abandoned the mob of students and made a dash for the restrooms. Not many people remained on the floor, but the only thing stopping her from using the girl's lavatory was the abnormal number of older students snickering and pointing at both the restrooms obviously up to no good. Feeling sorry for the younger students that fell in their traps, she quickly turned her head and avoided their eye contact. When you had to go, you had to go.

Once the fourth floor had passed her peripheral vision, she kept her head down, gazing at the stairs beneath her so that she didn't trip on the student in front of her. Even so, she was prepared for it to happen and braced herself for impact, both physically and verbally. After successfully passing the fourth floor, she made her way down to the third floor and traffic got heavy. Students being released from classes and the hospital wing made Emma want to reconsider her route towards the Ravenclaw Common Room. She was not going to get sick because some students didn't know how to get themselves out of school traffic. Good thing she hadn't intended on buying a car.

Walking through the third floor to get down to the second, she held her breath to evade the smell of smoldering wood caused by a failed attempt at the wand-lightening charm. Gross... she thought to herself picking up the pace. Finally, she reached the second floor and made her way across, but she stopped almost abruptly at the sight of a familiar face she hadn't seen in months. "Evelyn? Is that you?"

She's tired. That's all she can say. After returning to Hogwarts late in the year she's just tired. It's practically a miracle when her first official potions class for this year ends. She darts out the door pulling her hufflepuff scarf tight around her face so that it can act like a kind of cushion for her lower jaw. Her hands dig into the deep pockets of her uniform and her striped tie barely hangs on to her collar. She doesn't have a particular destination in mind; hell, at the moment she barely knows where she is in the winding halls of Hogwarts.

So when the calling of her name pierces the veil of thoughts whipping around in her head she doesn't know if she should turn around or hide, her fingers dig into the fabric of her clothing. They sound strangely familiar... Enough so that she recognizes the second she whips around. Her eyes widen and a small smile tugs at the corner of her lips.

"Hiya Emma, how's it going? Not sick, I hope. It'd be a shame to catch the plague in these times." She chuckles, acting like she hasn't not seen the other for several months. Her hand weaves into the back of her head, the frayed locks tangling themselves into her fingers and dropping back down as she pulls away.

"It's been awhile, yeah, have you been doing well in your classes?" Words start to spill off her tongue, frantically snowpiling together into a rapid paced  and short lived disaster. "Potion's pretty hard, but you'll probably be good at it, like everything else. What about DADA? I don't think we're doing anything too hard yet but you never know. Perhaps things'll get tougher eventually. Charms plows right on ahead, the teacher's pretty cool though, like History of Magic, which has to be a favorite. Do you remember the class on Gargoyle's? That was absolutely wicked."

She pauses for a breath, her throat dry and constricting the word vomit that wishes to bubble up against her teeth. Her fingers wiggle into the folds of her scarf, pulling out a sticky golden candy wrapped in a twisted clear wrapper. She unfurls it single-handily, pushing it past her lips and into her mouth as she studies her friend.

Still slightly confounded, Emma glanced at the scarf around her neck and came to the conclusion that she was sick. Wearing a scarf in the summertime wasn't exactly a fashion statement, but she had seen Evelyn wear scarfs before and after the winter season. It wasn't the scarf that made up her mind, it was more of the way she chatted with her. Remarkably hastened and somewhat raspy towards the end of her statements, but she didn't judge. She had seen enough sick people in her life and more just continued to add on to the list. She herself, however, refused to allow herself to contract the microorganism.

"Annoying," she said with a light shrug, trying her best to disguise the bitterness in her voice. "Least I'm not ill I suppose, my bad." She snickered, putting her hands up in defense.

"I cannot stand potions anymore, I'm narrowly passing that class. Oh well, I just hope the new professor is a light grader. One more failing grade for me and then I'll probably receive a howler. I've somehow managed to bring my herbology grade up. Gotta love History of Magic, of course. Remember Lumos and Nox? I don't think I would have my wand if it weren't for Blackburn." The brunette giggled withdrawing her wand from her robes. From close up on the white wand, small black spots of ash remained on the tip of her wand, mutilating the white wood that encompassed the essence of her wand. The stains still remained from the time she got nervous in class, another unlucky day she had lived through. Calling her to the front of the class to perform a risky spell was going a bit overboard.

Still, it was a bit troublesome to believe the person standing in front of her was positively Evelyn. She had disappeared for months without notification or any warnings and returned as if nothing had happened in the process of doing so. With all sincerity, it was a bit suspicious and she had a hard time wrapping her head around the idea. For all she knew, she could be a ghost harmoniously roaming around Hogwarts without even knowing, but it wasn't the most believable idea that she came up with. Like always, her mind had begun to stray to the negative aspects of the situation instead of the positives. What positives were to come with a friend disappearing? There was nowhere a witch could go without provoking consciousness to the Muggle world outside. Actually, that was a lie, but she doubted the Moore's moved countries only to return once again. It was the best answer she could come up with so far and it was getting her nowhere.

"So where have you been for the last... eight months? Why didn't you tell me you were coming back? Did anything happen?" She asked curiously without appearing blunt or nosy, but rather suspicious.

She furiously sucks on her caramel candy, feeling the strange texture coat her tongue before she pockets it in her cheek and talks. "He's doing his best, it's a dangerous subject after all, boiling liquids- toxic ingredients, open flames. The whole shebang," She emphasis the shebang by making tiny explosion gestures with her hands. *Pop, pop, pop* Evelyn mouths, popping her candy back between her teeth. "But howlers aren't nice." She cracks the solidified sugar with her molar. The bits of candy fall apart in her mouth; she keeps periodically chewing on it as she talks to Emma.

"Can't imagine getting yelled at is nice." The teen leans back onto her heels, her hands falling into her pockets and her slightly scuffed up scarf shifting. She rolls back onto her toes, shifting forward to get a better glance at their proffered wand. "Damn, you really did a number on it, didn't you? At least it's better than cracked or split. Then ya might've got splinters in your skin and who knows what magic'll do then." She shrugs. Her tongue swipes across her dry lips, now absent of the hard candy she was previous enjoying. It's already gone for the most part. Only bits of sticky caramel cling to her teeth.

Evelyn sobers up a bit when she's asked about her disappearance. Her smile falters, becoming a bit smaller than before. "Ah. Just some family matters. This and that, you know how purebloods can be sometimes. It's alright though! I've been doing the homework from home for the most part. So it's not like i'm falling behind too much." None of her ramble's lying, exactly. She just shrugs again, this time a bit stronger, as if to shrug off the question entirely. It probably doesn't help the other's suspicion, but she doesn't recognize it on their face or in their voice.

"But it was all pretty- sudden. So I didn't really think to tell anybody. I guess that when I came back I forgot to bring it up." Her fingers dig around for something to do, they latch onto the crinkly wrapper of an oreo pack. Carefully she wiggles out a single cookie to press between her lips. It doubles between another snack to feed her ever present cravings and something to keep her from needing to talk any more than she already has. Her teeth nibble away at the part of the cookie closest to her as she tries to suck out the overly sweet frosting from between the two chocolate crackers.

Emma knew absolutely well it wasn't her business to go prying around in another person's life, especially a friend's, but she just couldn't help it. She had to know the reason for her disappearance from school. Perhaps it was being protective, or just plain nosy. Noticing her smile fade away, she internally grimaced. One question too many, or maybe even three for that matter. Before she had the opportunity to transition the subject to something else, Evelyn spoke up, to her surprise, despite her smile disappearing causing her to feel even worse. Mostly for her benefit, she hoped it wouldn't be a sob story. It seemed almost impossible at this point to feel even worse, both for herself and the Hufflepuff.

"Aww, lucky. I wish I could sit at home and learn spells every day." It was more of a hyperbole than an actual lie, even though twinges of regret could be seen after pronouncing her opinion. Homeschooling and Hogwarts obviously had their own positives and negatives, but in the end, Hogwarts always came out on top at least in her opinion.

Hiding the suspicion in her words and her facial expression, she planted her hands behind her back and put a smile on her face rather reluctantly, but something was better than nothing. The first part of her words were easy to believe, well sort of. If she had to choose the choice between family business and shady acts, she would unquestionably choose the first one, not that she believed for a second it was true. It was frankly easier to assume the good in people instead of the bad. What she didn't believe was the last part. If she were in Evelyn's case, she knew the first people she would tell were her closest friends, no matter how painful it would be to her or her peers.

She peered down the corridor, it was no astonishment to her. Only last year the two and another guest had journeyed their way down a hidden passage and discovered their sincerest desires. The image was still clear in her mind, how could she forget exactly? She had had the most unrealistic adventure with the two, and she made sure there was no forgetting. The entire scenario replayed over and over again in her head for a few seconds, standing in awkward secrecy until eventually snapping out of it with an inaudible sigh that could have quickly been overlooked for a natural breath.

"Sorry, just worried, you know? Are you sure you're alright..." The Ravenclaw asked timidly, unsure if she asked another question or not. Emma looked down and pointed at the ground, spotting her Oreos, a small smirk forming on her face. "Gimme."
