Happy Anniversary

In a few hours it will be Feb 1...

This forum opened up 2 years ago on Feb 1st. In these past 2 years this empty forum has developed into a community of players that have dedicated themselves to the betterment of this site and fostered great friendships with the players that they have met. I have never seen anything like this community in terms of togetherness and kindness.

From translations to system development to stories, a lot has been done and so much more still needs to be done. The French community has endured for over a decade, it is my hope that we too will see similar longevity. Thanks to the staff for all their hard work. Thanks to the players that without we would not have a community. Let's make this year the best year yet.

Mini Event

Feb. is the month of love. A time to let your sweetheart that you are theirs. Well, someone wants to help make sure that they are yours also for the day. A clear act of benevolence as well as deviance, a student is selling candies that are laced with a little something to help make them yours. The transaction simple, post in the thread (it is a normal RP thread so 200 words is the minimum) where you buy candy. To buy the candy, money will be physically taken from your account and you will be given the candy or card item that you purchased. LINK the thread that you are using this candy in and GIVE the candy item to your desired paramour. This candy may work in some strange ways depending on which one you use, your partner may be privately messaged with some additional information.

**These roleplays must be initiated and the item used prior to March first.

Permanent Ban

While uncommon to post about the disciplinary action leveled against a user, due to the recent unrest that has unsettled the community it has been determined prudent to make a public statement. Elena Jones, a former Slytherin second year player has been permanently banned from this community as well as our discord for recurrent, repeated instances of rules infractions that have ultimately victimized the staff and other community members and has resulted in significant disruption to a portion of the player community.

We apologize to those who were in threads with her that have been disrupted by her behavior as well as her friends who may be in threads that they enjoyed with her. We realize that it is always unsettling, regardless of how necessary this intervention may be. For those that feel the need to advocate for this user, please feel free to contact me via owl or via Discord. For those that feel the need to have a greater understanding of why this happened, you may also contact me via owl or Discord.

A Reminder Regarding Plagarism

Plagiarism is defined as the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. Your character is intended to be unique. That would mean that your character is not a copy of a literary work, something or someone in the media, from another fandom or the work of another player. This does extend to artwork that you share on the community. You do not need to source the artwork that you use for your avatar, in your posts or in your encyclopedia. It is nice to do, especially with a link back to the creator, but we will not make users do this. However, if you claim artwork to be your own, we do expect your claim to be true. The staff reserves the right to remove artwork that is falsely claimed as yours, the verify and to clarify the legitimacy of your claims.

A Reminder Regarding Homework Anonymity

It is an expectation that you either use a new moniker (clearly stating that such is not your character's name) or not using a name at all when submitting assignments. That is an important part of the homework system because it ensures fair grading. When a player submits their name or fails to declare that the name used is a moniker (we have too many players to know off-hand everyone's name), that not only breaks anonymity but creates an unfair situation for the staffmember who can now be accused of bias no matter what they grade the homework as. A few Professors have sent back assignments for this reason as a favor and a kindness to players because most are hesitant to give a well-written assignment a bad grade because of an oversight or failure to read the directions despite this being consistent across the homework system. Sending back assignments is an extra step and extra work for the Professor that they are not required to do, in fact  I recommend the loss of 2 letter grades for breaking anonymity. If a Professor is willing to take time out for you to send back your assignment, usually with an owl and be willing to accept a new assignment despite the loss of anonymity (because they will remember your assignment) which is a risk on them in terms of being accused of favoritism/bias, please do not be short with them. Being short with them for being helpful and nice discourages and deincentivizes them from giving the next player that same benefit that they just gave you.

A Reminder Regarding Shared Internet Connections

As many of you are aware, this community has a rule against multiaccounting. A multiaccount is where one person has more than one active player account in this community. This community has multiple moderated instances, including the Sorting Ceremony, adventures, classes, Quidditch as well as various projects under development such as Dueling. Playing as multiple characters not only eliminates the fairness of moderated situations but it also becomes a burden for staff to manage as it can take us hours in some cases to fully discuss, review and validate, verify and moderate an account. It is also the antithesis of what this site is intended to be, which is a roleplay site where you roleplay with other people, not yourself or players with several versions of yourself.

Last evening, the staff had to ban several accounts all belonging to the same person (8 accounts in total). Thankfully the roleplays that they were involved thus far, despite being open had no other rolplayers besides other versions of the same user on different accounts involved or they never interfaced with other players in larger group threads. Their largest presence where they were associated with other players was in the OC areas as the accounts only existed a few days.

As a reminder to those who have friends that are a part of this site: we do actively monitor IPs even post validation. If you have a friend or a family member that shares your internet access, please contact us to explain the situation. While we often give players the benefit of doubt when we speak with them, we have had some incidents (this announcement in response to the most egregious I have seen in a decade and a half of administration) where people have manipulated that trust and lied. Please do not contribute to staff distrust of players, it negatively effects the many players in this community that have friends and family that are a part of this site that undergo additional scrutiny and doubt as a product of the selfish behavior of a few.

Final School Game of the Year

The final match of the year will be between Slytherin v. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw v. Hufflepuff. In a game that not only makes these student athletes stronger (increased stat gains) but also earns them house points that contribute towards their winning of the House Cup, we are having our final game of the school year on the Hogwarts grounds. The next game will start March 12th. This game will determine which house is the Quidditch Champion of 2020 which gives more than bragging rights as there will be a special event that is incredibly relevant to them that will likely be detailed in the coming days.

So how is the champion decided? Overall it is by the points earned. Usualy this would also be the house with the most victories. In this case our game history is as such:

Ravenclaw 180 v Gryffindor 10

Slytherin 10 v Hufflepuff 150

Slytherin 150 v Ravenclaw 0

Hufflepuff 150 v Gryffindor 20
Presently in the lead is Hufflepuff with 300 points. They have won 2 games and with a third, victory would be assured. However, both Slytherin and Ravenclaw have won a game also. If Hufflpuff loses their game against Ravenclaw, it is likely that either Slytherin or Ravenclaw will walk away with the 2020 victory as Hufflepuff has not made any Quaffle scores this season as they focused on catching the snitch in their previous games. A thus far incredibly effective strategy, but if they lose in their game against Ravenclaw they would need to have scored at least four times with their quaffles. In addition, it would be a close game between Ravenclaw and Slytherin if Hufflepuff loses their match.  Ravenclaw has the lead on Slytherin by 20 points, meaning that Slytherin would need to not only win their next match but they would also need to score at least three times with a quaffle to assure victory.

What happens in a tie?

Well... then we see more athleticism!

This is a very close season, pay attention and cheer for your favorite team!

This is a Thank You Letter for Zach, the site owner and the guy that made all the wonderful coding that we enjoy. A player suggested that we send him a Thank You Card to thank him for all of his hard work. He has done so much for the community and has really gotten nothing back except a longer honey-do list from me and he has always been pleasant, helpful and does what he can despite a busy life outside of here. He is a great site master.
