Wanted: Two New Brand Roles!!
Caretaker and Grounds Keeper

Due to popular request and a growing need in the community, we have decided to extend the staff roles with brand new roles. The idea is that we will be creating multiple new positions, over the coming year. However, this will highly depend on the OOC need for it and there's no guarantee we will create further positions. For now, please let us introduce the first two roles: Caretaker and Grounds Keeper.

The Caretaker and Grounds Keeper will be part of our newest "Assistants" Team. The Assistant roles will sit alongside both the Prefect team and the Professor team, as a moderator of the site. They are considered equal moderators of the site, with the same powers. Their duties, however, will be a mix of everything to help spread the growing workload from the current staff.

As such, the caretaker and grounds keeper will be responsible for moderating a few boards OOC, to spread the workload from the prefects. To help the professors, they will be assisting with grading homework. This will allow the professors to focus on creating new lessons. Please note that both the professors and the assistant will be responsible for grading. We expect it to be a shared task, rather than all falling onto just one person.

They will also have their own in character and out of character roles and responsibilities.

Image

The Assistants' Duties:
--- Shared responsibility for grading two subjects
They will share the responsibility with the professor of the subject. One subject will be a 'heavy' workload, whilst the other will be lighter. This is to help allow the professors to focus on creating new lessons.
--- Working in a specific staff team
Assistants will have to work in a specific staff team as part of their role. You can choose to help with others, of course, but one of them will be included in the job role. These staff teams vary per role. However, as an example, teams are things like "validation", "index", "errands", "lore", etc.
--- Moderate a couple of boards OOC
Every board on the site is moderated by a member of staff. As part of your role, you will be assigned a few boards that must be checked every two weeks, at most. This is OOC moderation for things like closing finished threads, making sure the word count is met, making sure people are staying within the PG-13 rating and so on.
--- You will also be responsible for a couple of 'ad-hoc' tasks.
The specific tasks depend on your role but are things like, running a specific event.

Please note: As the Assistants Team is on a trial basis, we reserve the right to change the job description based on the needs. Some of this might not work and will need to be removed, other things might need to be added. We will, of course, work with the selected applicants should the need arise to make adjustments but we ask for flexibility and understanding. Thank you!

Wanted: Caretaker

Caretaker's Main Duties:
--- Moderating: Caretaker Office area & Room of Requirement
--- Grading: Charms & Flying
--- Team: Validation
--- Ad-hoc Tasks: Responsible for an event in Sept + running IC detentions

Wanted: Grounds Keeper

Grounds Keeper's Main Duties:
--- Moderating: Grounds Keeper Cabin area & Forbidden Forest
--- Grading: Astronomy & Potions
--- Team: Errands
--- Ad-hoc Tasks: Responsible for an event in July/Aug + Character Management System

Hogwarts Summer Camp
This information is known IC, unless specified otherwise.
For the students who have already attended Hogwarts last year:
We will basically not have a Summer Camp going on this year on Hogwarts Grounds.
Instead, the professors and prefects (yours truly), will gather the students and take them to see team Hufflepuff play against the Durmstrang team at an official Quidditch game event.

For the students who have only just arrived over summer:
You will have received a letter from Hogwarts staff, in which we invite you to come and spend a few weeks in our company already. This to prepare you with Hogwarts' regulations.

Extra note: You either come for the full event with the group or you don't. There is no possibility to come alone or with your family somewhere in the middle of these days or to only come and watch the game. You are either a part of this event or you are not.
The International Quidditch Tournament between Wizarding Schools is the main summer event this year. Hufflepuff came out as Hogwarts' champion and is there for allowed to participate in this event. We are bringing all the students who don't go home around that time to hop along and go visit both the event and spectate the match. The event is spanned over at least two weeks at the start of the summer holidays. No Parents or other NPCs (family, other friends, whatever) are allowed to come to this event.

Over the course of these two weeks, we have organised several threads/activities to keep the students occupied during this camping event. There'll be plenty of opportunities for friendship, romance and fighting before the match even begins. Below you can find a list of which activities have been planned and when they take place In Character. So while these events will be posted at the same time, please pay attention to which day of the summer trip they take place.

In order to keep everyone's options open to RP to their heart's desire over the two-month summer period, we will open all of these events at the same time. This post will simply reference when they take place. Please pay close attention to this to avoid any timeline shenanigans.

On the 1st of July, students and professors will take the train and then a portkey that will lead them to the London Quidditch Stadium. Around the stadium, fields have been cleared to make room for a multitude of tents. This is where Hogwarts will make their own encampment. There are few rules surrounding this, however let me explain them to you clearly:
In order to create your own tent thread you simply create a new thread and place the [TENT] tag in the title. In the first post of your thread, you state who your fellow tent mates are. This group will not change over the course of the summer activity. So choose wisely. And no, you can not (as in, it is impossible) sneak off to other encampments. The maximum number of people in a tent will be 10.
Extra note: Durmstrang and Ilvermorny will have nearby encampments, so you can make tent threads for them as well. But no mixing of schools. Specific threads will be marked to showcase whether INPCs will be allowed to enter a thread with the [INPC} tag.

Now, for the events:

BBQ Thread. [INPC] On the 3rd of July, Professors Browne, Dunaid and Karr as well as Prefect Nicholson will set up a barbecue. This event will be open to both PCs and INPCs. Which means that the folks from Durmstrang and Ilvermorny are welcome to join. Yes, this will be one of the threads you will get to meet them for the first time. Aside form the (delicious) food, there may be some more entertainment along the way.

Capture the Base. [INPC] On the 4th of July, Quidditch Captains Rafael D'Spacito and Tyranni Whitethorn will be co-hosting a friendly three-way game between the schools of Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Ilvermorny. Capture the Base, a game similar to the traditional 'Capture the Flag', will be your chance to demonstrate that your school triumphs above all others…

Stargazing thread. On the 6th of July, Professors Equinox, Kibitzer and Lian as well as Prefect Morgan will escort us all (well, those that come) to a nearby location where we will spend the night stargazing. Either a good excuse to stay up late or a very romantic opportunity for those "few" lovebirds out there.

Trip to London. On the 8th of July, Professors Pendrast, Galim, Jemari and MacTavish and Prefect Warren will take the students who wish to see the City of London for a day on a trip. Learn all about muggle London and visit all sorts of things while the professors show you around.

Chess Combat Thread. [INPC] Professor Zahid and Prefect Silmataurea have got some special plans for you on the 10th of July! I won't spoil anything here. I'm sure you'll get all the rules from them some time.

Campfire Stories Thread. [INPC] Professor Lydursdattir and Prefects Alptraum, Healy and Edelhardt will gather you all on the 12th around the campfire to share a special night all together. It'll be time to listen to some exciting stories until deep in the night. Perhaps share a few of your own.

Crafting Activity Thread. [INPC] Professors Jensen and Vernatis as well as Prefect Shymane will be prepping everyone on the 15th of July. Yes, the day before the actual game will take place. They mean to get some banners together and try out some awesome face paints so you all can look the part once we start supporting for our team.

Quidditch Match. [INPC] The 16th is the day it all comes down to. The actual game we all came to see. Hufflepuff Team will face off against the Durmstrang team. What a time we live in!

Celebration Party. [INPC] After securing a victory. People are invited on the 17th to come and celebrate the winner of the tournament.

Slytherin Adventure. As part of winning the house cup in May, Slytherin got a special adventure. This thread is exclusive to those already in it. We're listing it here for timeline purposes. This is NOT known IC by anyone else.

Top Earners Shopping. As part of being one of the top three earners in May, three people got a special 'shopping' thread. This thread is exclusive to those already in it. We're listing it here for timeline purposes. This is NOT known IC by anyone else.

New Discord Role

Just as a point to note, there is a new discord role called "Retired Staff". This is essentially for those who have stepped down from their staff role in good standing and still join on discord. They are welcome to, of course, join the conversation and will have access to the same channels as everyone else, except for house channels.

Some former staff will return to their student discords, others may choose to keep their adult one, as that might be how they are recognised on the site. This role has been created to maintain some consistency and fairness so that they may continue to be active on discord but do not gain access to multiple house channels without a need for it.

In a few years, the role will likely be updated to 'Graduates' and those graduating from seventh year will also be given this role, as they will no longer have a need for house channels either.

So if you see anyone appearing in this mysterious new brown colour role on discord, now you know why!

Teach Me How to Be Human and How to be Humane

Some of the staff members have been getting messages and requests for 'additional deviant activity' threads, demands for additional moderated threads to facilitate their PC or NPC and an IC as well as OC climate of 'blame' at the IC/OC staff for not doing enough. Enough in terms of the aforementioned additional OC moderated threads as well as the IC response to the main story because threads take months to complete. This has been taxing the mental health and enjoyment of those staff members.

Examples:
  • In discord joking about the incompetence of the IC Professors for letting this happen. Correlating this to real life metrics, the school would be closed and your character's would not get to be the main characters in a story, the Professors would be.
  • Discussions about the 'late' response by the Professors. Many of the threads where these incidents happened took months and then the Professors had to RP finding out and responding between themselves.
  • Being asked to have food thrown at their character, changing a once and done thread to a moderated mini event that would be incredibly taxing to moderate. Not only is the act highly disrespectful and that consistent environment damaging to those staff members, they are now burdened with saying 'no', accepting the abuse and not respond IC to the once and done thread or making another moderated situation.
  • Forcing a Professor to enter a thread to break up a mid-class fist fight, otherwise it they look negligent or foolish by the virtue of the narration puts them in the corner. They might not have time to respond to that thread but now they have to make time.
  • The repeated plans for deviant behavior places the Professors in the role of an incompetent when coupled with the actual story elements. It will effect their OC support of adventure threads, murder threads because nobody wants to play the fool. They can be fooled once in awhile but they get to play too.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
