The day Talia had gotten the owl back from her dad had been one of the happiest of her life. And for a girl as happy as she was, that was a pretty big deal.
The letter was not just an ordinary letter from her father. It was so much more. Because written inside that letter were the words For sure! And these seven letters meant a lot to Talia Piper. Because they meant that her wish, her wish of having her best friend Puck over for the summer, would come true. It would all be possible, the sleepovers and adventures and midnight dance parties that she had dreamed of. All the moments Talia had thought up and held on to dearly, all of them. Promised to be made into real memories. The happiest of memories. The happiest of happy memories.
So, on the morning of July 30th, bright and early, Talia excitedly prepared herself for the day, smiling to herself at the feelings she received from her bright clothes, a sense of knowing that it was finally here, the day she had been waiting for since that owl came and confirmed that everything that Tal wanted to do over break would be able to happen.
The train ride back to the London station had been a flurry of fun and emotion, sharing a compartment with Rorie, Jangles, Landon, and Puck and laughing tons. And then she was back at the London station, grinning giddily at Puck as she led her friend over to where her father was standing on the platform with outstretched arms.
"Hiya, dad!" she squealed as she hugged him tightly. "I've missed you!"
"Missed you too, kiddo," Joey had said cheerfully.
Letting go of her father, Tal grabbed Puck's hand gently, pretty much bouncing up and down with excitement. "This is Elena, of course! She's the coolest ever."
Joey smiled at the blue haired friend of his daughter's. "Ah, yes, the legendary Elena. Tal talks about you a lot, all good things of course. I'm Joey, by the way, and if you need anything, just let me know," he gave her some silly finger guns and offered to help the girls with their trunks.
And as soon as Tal's sister Katie, a fifth year at the school, got off the train and joined them, they were off! Walking through the station and towards the car in the parking lot, the luggage was loaded into the trunk of the Piper family Jeep. Joey got into the driver's seat, of course, and Katie in the passenger, leaving the backseat for the younger girls to hop into. Tal held the car door open for Puck happily, and then got in herself.
Katie twisted around in her seat, looking back at them with a sparkle of joy in her eye. "What's up?" she asked, then looked especially at Puck, extending her arm for a high five. "I'm Katie, Tal's gloriously cool sister."
The two hour car ride began, winding through the scenic United Kingdom. It was full of energy, the windows and sunroof open to let the summer breeze swish through hair, and the car stereo playing music with the best of vibes, Tal conversating lovingly with her friend and family, and singing along to the tunes on the radio.

Summer Bucket ListIt was always nice to be the relaxed one.
When youโre in a friend group long enough, the energies of every person in it get, in a way, balanced out. Being with Rorie and Tal together meant that Elena turned into the sound of calm reason instead of the slightly neurotic kid she usually was.
Elena smiled and squeezed Talโs hand, โOf course I can do that sir! And thank you so much for letting me stay during the holidays.โ
After a lot of shenanigans involving baggage and finding their way around a London carpark, Elena slid into the backseat and waited for her friend to pop inside.
Elena answered the call of the high five from Talโs older sister, โGreat to meet you Katie, Iโm Elena! Wow your entire family must have a genetic predisposition towards epic coolness. Thanks again for letting me stay with you.โ
The girl settler back against the seat, content to watch a family, a real family, get ready for Summer. In a way, Alanโs aunt and cousins had mostly left them to their own devices. This on the other hand was clearly a family that believed you should do things together.
Step softly Elena, you need not fear rejection.

Walkin' On Sunshine
Summer Bucket List - Road Trip! โ๏ธโบ๏ธIt was an action packed drive.
Tal had been writing out a list of the things she really wanted to do this summer. From spending days at the beach to venturing the town, everything that she could think of was on there. Some stuff would come to mind later, of course, and the list was far from complete, but it was a start! The first part of the bucket list was the road trip! Not bothering to write it down because they were already doing it, Tal grinned again as she finished off the doodles on the piece of paper, pure excitement showing on her face!
The rest of the time she spent either rambling to Puck energetically, or just smiling widely and standing on the backseat to stick her head out of the open roof of the car, feeling the wind against her face and in her hair.
And before she knew it, the Jeep pulled up in front of a familiar light blue painted townhome, right on the coast of Brighton. Joey ran all the luggage in within a couple trips, and Tal happily clicked the back door open, holding it for Puck and almost literally bouncing up and down in joy and anticipation. Everything was going to be perfect, she knew it in her heart!
"Welcome to Brighton!" she said enthusiastically as she opened the front door of her house.
and this is just a really detailed description of the house if you ever need reference, no need to read it all unless you want to, i sort of just went wild so here's this and yeah : )
Reducio
Overall, the Piper residence was very colourful. Pastel, aesthetic, full of teals and mints and pinks and yellows and whites, covered in photographs and art and cute patterns. It had a beachy and vintage vibe to it, one of utmost home and comfort. And it almost always smelled like cookies and saltwater. There were tons of windows, and they were normally left open to let the sunlight and sea breeze float through the place. Often times, faint traces of sweet music could be heard, coming from a small stereo resting on the coffee table in the living room.
The walls were painted a soft and welcoming mint colour, and the floor was whitewashed wood. A small, slightly worn doormat was on the ground in front of the front door, with a little whale and the words Whalecome! on it. To the right of the front door, there was a small red bench, with hooks for coats and shelves for shoes, as well as other organization for items, pretty much a mudroom without walls. To the left, the stairs started, going up a few steps before turning a bit to go the rest of the way up parallel to the wall, a light wooden banister curling along beside it. Under the staircase, there was an entire wall devoted to art and photographs of the Pipers and the things they loved.
The house itself was long and thin, as it was a townhome. From the front entrance, one could see all the way to the back of the house. When you passed the staircase, there was a light blue sofa, velvet and extremely soft and comfortable, as if you were sitting on a cloud. There was also a yellow armchair, and two mint floor cushion seats. The entire living room section of the house was very colourfully decorated, with bright coral pieces on the wooden trunk coffee table, and a ceramic octopus lamp sitting on the glass end table, along with some photos of the sea. Both the couch and the chair had colourfully patterned pillows on them, and all the seating was organized for a family to sit and spend time with each other, only the sofa looked directly to the television that sat perched on the shelf above the pink brick fireplace. The rug was soft and cozy on any bare feet that passed over it, a blue shag rug that stayed soft and clean somehow, no matter how much sand fell into it.
If one looked to the left of the living room, behind the sofa, there was a small kitchen. Two walls were taken up by counters and the likes, including the fridge, sink, oven, and etcetera. There was a breakfast nook with teal cushions on the wooden benches in the corner, with windows streaming light in from all sides, which surrounded a bright turquoise wooden table with some seashells in the middle for decoration. The theme of the kitchen was teal and white, keeping the features of the kitchen looking clean and simple while adding some cheerful colour to the decorations and finishing touches.
A door just off of the living room on the wall opposite of the kitchen contained a sweet, vintage themed powder room, with a door in there leading to a small laundry room.
At the very end of the house, windows spanned from floor to ceiling, taking up the entire wall. A double french door would open onto a small patio, which had some beachy outdoor furniture like a porch swing, and fairy lights strung up above. That patio led straight down onto the soft sand of the beach!
When one came up the staircase and to the second floor, there were all of the bedrooms. The walls of the landing were all decorated with mint shiplap, and at the end of the foyer, there was a big bright bay window looking out onto the beach, with a yellow window seat against it, books in the shelves built into that window seat. There was a door immediately on the left, which led to the master suite, Joey and Sadie's room. Straight across that room to the right, there was a washroom for the kids, which had a double vanity with some cluttered items on the counter, and smaller separate rooms branching off from the main area of the bathroom, creating a more secluded and private space for the toilet room and the bathtub, which was also a shower, and had a cute pastel goldfish shower curtain!
Walk past those two doors and there were another two, right in front of the bay window. The next door on the right was for Katie's room. The last door on the left went into Tal's room, of course!
Tal's room was very fun, a room that just by entering gave one the feeling of joy and energy. There was a bright blue and navy blue striped rug on the part of the floor that didn't have any stuff, with an open hanger rack against the right wall, which had lots of her clothes on it, and her shoes on the ground beneath. Against the wall at the back of the room, there was a loft bed with a full mattress on top, lots of fluffy and colourful and cute patterned blankets thrown over it. A pink ladder led up to that bed, and underneath it, there was a corner desk, with a little chair and small pink shag rug, and stuff organized on the tabletops and in the drawers and shelves available. A spot with the desk had an area for drawing and writing and doing creative activities, and Tal's electric guitar and ukulele were kept peacefully in their spot against the end of the loft bed, which had more shelves, that had even more stuff on them! Lots of photos and artwork and posters were put up on the walls, and there were plenty of plants around the room. The wall that the head of the loft bed was against, and that the hanger rack was also against, was pretty much completely made from windows, looking completely towards the ocean and the waves of the water. There were some bright blue curtains that Tal could close if she wanted to, but there was almost never a time that she left the windows open and bringing the outside in.
The third floor also had mint walls, and had a high vaulted roof. It was mainly dedicated to a fun room, with a cushy hanging chair that connected securely straight to the ceiling, and other really comfy furniture, creating a vibe of relaxation and creativity and happiness. At the end of the completely open third floor, there was a set of french doors leading out onto a balcony!

Walkin' On Sunshine
Summer Bucket ListElena had been humming, looking over Tal's shoulder and laughing with her family, strange days when you start feeling comfy with people you don't even know yet.
Elena also had spent a lot of time staring out at the sea, in fact she was pretty much frozen staring at it when Tal had gotten out of the car. So the girl slipped out, grabbing her bag and looked at the ocean again for a moment. Somehow though the ocean didn't compare to the house nearby it.
"It's beautiful!" Elena couldn't think of much else to say, and kept looking between her friend and the house, "I've never seen anything like it, haven't seen the sea either. It's nothing like the Thames, books have told me the truth all these years. It really is amazing..."
Books may have told the truth, but sadly other people hadn't told her the truth at all, that was definitely a story for another day. A much longer one which required a good amount of tissues and probably some calming tea, camomile definitely. On the other hand the sea was beautiful, so.
Elena shouldered her bag and smiled brightly, "What's next on the bucket list sweetness? Summer is one of my favourite seasons so far!"
