It was in the town of Derby that Sabrina's mother had decided to reside in after she divorced her father ten years ago. Of course, Sabrina would travel to her hometown of Cotswolds to visit her father during summers, but for majority of her time, the redheaded girl spent her time in her mother's care. She hadn't received any acceptance letters to magical schools yet, and she was way too eager to get one. She wasn't dwelling on those thoughts now, though, as she waited at the end of her driveway for her best friend to come by and pick her up to hang out. Sabrina was excited to see Reid again - they hadn't been able to hang out as of recent because she had spent her summer in Cotswolds, of course. Now that it was nearing the beginning of September and the end of August, she was back home.

She was dressed in a plain white tank top, with a very light cardigan over top to protect her fair skin on her shoulders from getting burnt. She matched that with a pair of denim shorts, which stopped just below the middle of her thigh. She wore her favourite sneakers that her mother bought her for her birthday - and a white hat she got when she traveled to Wales for Winter holidays last year.

The sun was warm against her back, as she had turned her front away from the direct UV rays, protecting herself from getting burnt. She would hate for that to happen before the beginning of the school year - what an embarrassment that would be! She kind of wished that she could have been able to express her excitement to go to magical school to Reid, but her mother said that he was a non-magic-folk, and so she couldn't tell him. It was a downer, but she could push through it.

A small breeze blew Sabrina's hair back behind her shoulders, and the smell of flowers from the garden in her house's front yard overcame her sense of smell. The variety of flowers that were in her front yard were gorgeous - jasmine, lilacs, lilies, and tulips, all fully bloomed and happy in the summer. When autumn came around, they would die, and the yard would look sad again until Spring rolled around again. She was glad that she wouldn't be there to experience it, but rather at Hogwarts, she wouldn't have to be disappointed that the yard was not as colourful as usual.

Reid was quite excited today to see Sabrina, he had been busy after hearing the news of going to this new school. In fact, he was quite nervous and rightfully so - he was no longer going to see his friends. That also meant he might not see Sabrina anymore, it was a disheartening thought. His parents had broken it to him quite early and it's been on his mind ever since. Not only that, he couldn't tell a soul about where he was going - at least that's what his parents said.

He even had the letter tucked in his backpack, the one he got from Hogwarts. Reid was wearing a hoodie, his glasses hanging at the edge of his collar bounced as he jogged down the stairs of his home. "Don't run, Reid!" his mother called from the living room. The boy didn't respond much, yet he yelled out a farewell to his parents as the door behind him closed.

He pulled a key from the pocket of his jeans and walked up to a parked bike on his porch. He unlocked the bike from the post of their porch and pulled it down the stairs to ride. Getting around Derby's neighborhoods was difficult for him, that and he found biking more exciting. His dad thankfully showed him how to ride a bike two years ago, yet he just got a bike last year.

He requested that there was a way for at least one person to be able to ride in the back, which had his father a little puzzled, but it was done with an addition of a banana seat. Reid would admit, he'd find himself a professional after the amount of times he's biked with his friends. He pushed himself off the pavement, gently cruising down towards Sabrina's house.

It wasn't hard to see her from where he was, her hair was so red that he'd probably be able to see it from afar. He somehow broke his breaks last week and thus the boy used the heels of his worn tennis shoes to have himself crawl to a stop. "Sabrina!" It's been so long and he wanted to know how her summer in her home town was.

He got off his bike and pulled it towards her. "I missed you! How was your summer in Cotswolds? " he asked eagerly, nearly tripping over his untied shoe laces. Reid propped the kickstand and didn't bother tying it, moving to approach her. She might notice his hair was different, a little shorter and more well kept. His reading glasses was also a new addition to his odd look, yet he still dressed the same as ever.

It was getting to long enough of a wait for Sabrina to want to take a seat on the pavement that made up the driveway underneath her when she caught sight of Reid's bike from the corner of her eye. She had always been slightly jealous of his method of transportation - she had only had a scooter, herself. She hasn't used it for years now, though. A huge grin spread across her face as she lifted her hand to greet him with a wave, and she tucked one of her ankles behind her other one, standing in a more comfortable stance until he approached her.

When he had approached her, it was hard to miss the differences that there were in him since the last time they met up. His hair seemed to have gotten trimmed - but then again, she could be wrong - and he had a pair of glasses perched upon his nose. It made her wonder if they were real, or fake. She had tried on a pair of fake ones before, and it was then that she was sure that glasses definitely didn't suit her.

"Sabrina! I missed you! How was your summer in Cotswolds?"

A shrug lifted her shoulders in response, the light catching her face perfectly to bring all thousand of her freckles to light. Her freckles were one trait she got from neither her mother nor her father, but rather her grandmother. The one she sees, at least. Her grandmother was covered in the small dots from head to toe, and Sabrina had slight hope that she wouldn't end up as freckled - but she wouldn't complain. She was convinced that they made her unique, and they did.

"I missed you too, Reid!" She began with, kind of postponing the idea of actually explaining how her summer went. She was overly enthusiastic with it all, but the fact that she was still waiting on something that she wanted so badly put a sort of bummed-out feeling upon her. "It was the usual, really. We went to Blenheim Palace, it was so cool! Have you ever been in a castle before? It really does make you feel like you're royalty. Well, until you leave, anyways. How was your summer in.. Derby?" She asked, half-joking. She seriously did want to know how he had enjoyed his summer, but she knew how Derby usually was - mildly busy, uneventful if you live there and experience the city everyday, and very industrial. For the most part, Sabrina tended to stay near the parks and such by her home. They were less crowded, and definitely less intimidating to go to alone. Even though most of the time, she would beg Reid to accompany her.

She then pulled out a small postcard from inside her cardigan, which she had been pinching in place with her arm against her side. She also had something for him, which she had gotten while in Cotswolds, but that could always wait for later.

"I wrote you a postcard, but the postal didn't seem to want to send it off, so I had to wait to give it to you." Sabrina's nose scrunched up as she said this, her tone slightly disappointed. It was truly unfortunate that the postal hadn't seemed to care of her importance to keep in touch with her friend. She hoped that once she got her acceptance letter and was on her way to school, she would be able to write to Reid without any events like the one at Cotswolds Post Office. "Would you like to go to our park and read it there?" She offered, referring to the park not too far down the street. It was the one that they usually went to, and it was their usual spot as of when they first started hanging out. As Sabrina remembers it, the two claimed the park to be theirs. It wasn't like anyone really visited it, unless they were locals. Even then, everyone seemed to keep to themselves.

Reid had grown up with the redhead for a majority of his life ever since she came to reside in Derby. He had a fond friendship with her, one he didn't share with the boys from the Academy. His friends were more rowdy, a little more crude and if he had to guess, 'rude' by Sabrina's opinion. It was fun to hang with them, but it was either trouble or frustration.

They'd jump on each other beds, cause mischief when they could and seemed to be a general nuisance. Yet he favored the more quieter and adventurous evenings he had with the Hurst girl. Plus, he genuinely enjoyed his conversations with Sabrina when it happened. He was always curious of her family, what she did, and if she had time for him.

Reid has gotten teased about it a few times at school, yet he pushed the fact that him and Sabrina were friends. The park was quite smaller than most parks, but by his eyes - it was a whole new land to explore. He often would try to usher Sabrina into some new campaign, often wishing to play the role of an exceptional knight.

It was the only time the timid hearted boy could feel like someone larger than life. So when she mentioned a castle, his eyes widened with a cheeky grin. She went to a castle? He wanted to see what it felt like to go to a castle himself too. He envied her but he was glad it was a summer well spent. It was touching that she had something for him, now he felt bad for not having something.

Maybe he could give her ... good news? He wasn't supposed to tell anyone about Hogwarts though, yet he wanted to tell Sabrina at least. Maybe he could tell her when they were at the park if his conscious would let him. "Yeah, I'd like that. Do you mind if I leave my bike in your yard?" he asked. Despite asking, the boy was already parking it on the side of her home, there was no use in even wishing for permission.

Reid was too excited to tell, he wanted to hear what Sabrina wrote. He had a hop and skip to his pace and his overexcited voice mirrored that, "Is your family in Cotswolds nice? They sound nice for taking you to a castle, I'd like to go if I could. I wonder if we have any castles nearby." There was no way he'd be able to keep Hogwarts a secret, it was a doomed effort.

"Trouble usually finds me."

The girl shrugged her shoulders as Reid asked to park his bike in the yard. It wasn't an unusual occurrence for him to do so - she was more than used to it. Her mother was too, by now. She waited him to trail back to her before she began to make her way towards the park down the street. The excitement stirred within her to be back with her friend. She seemed to get hyper when she was around good people, and Reid was definitely a good people. She wished she could keep him with her for forever - but unfortunately, she had to leave him for majority of her years come September.

"Is your family in Cotswolds nice? They sound nice for taking you to a castle, I'd like to go if I could. I wonder if we have any castles nearby."

Sabrina laughed in response to his enthusiasm. She had almost forgotten how entertaining her best friend could be. She could spend days on end with him, and never get bored. She hardly got along well with anyone else - though she tried pretty hard, and succeeded with few. She smiled over at Reid, nodding her head in response, "Definitely nice. My dad is amazing. I wish I could see him more." She admitted, scrunching up her nose dramatically to keep from frowning. She wouldn't let herself get down in the dumps this next week. It could be the last week they had together for a while.

"I don't think that there are any nearby, are there? I just notice trains," She pursed her lips slightly, adding on in her head - Lots of trains. Derby happened to be an industrial-like city, meaning that trains happened to be coming and going at odd times throughout the day. They didn't exactly have a schedule. "But the private school I'm going to next year in Scotland is supposed to be just like a castle! My mum went there, and she told me all about it." She gushed, her half-lie springing to life once more like it usually did when she spoke with muggles about her schooling plans.

She hadn't planned on lying about Hogwarts to her friend. She wanted to tell him everything about it - the houses, the classes, magic as a whole. She wanted to bring him shopping with her, though she doubted she could, but she wished to do so anyways. It would make the trip much more entertaining, and much more worth it. She still had to get her wand - the thought caused nerves to rattle her insides. What if no wand chose her? The thoughts soon subsided as they neared the park, and Sabrina darted off down the hill towards the playground, which was barren.

She climbed up the ropes on the side of the jungle gym, proceeding to go up two steps to cross a bridge, which lead to the top of the slides, under cover. This was where Sabrina usually chose to sit, and she had missed her spot for far too long to allow Reid to choose to sit anywhere else. The warm surface against the skin of her legs as she took a seat, crossing her legs underneath her, was welcomed with (figuratively) open arms.

Private school? In Scotland? That was nowhere near Derby. That was so far, he didn't know where Scotland was but it sounded far. He should've paid attention better in class. "Scotland?" the boy dejectedly mused. Reid was a little bummed on their way to the park, mostly thinking about the fact that Sabrina was going to be far away. Not only that, he was going to be far away too! Well he didn't really know where Hogwarts was, in fact, he was just told that it was a big school.

He wished he knew more to actually tell her, he just found out it was a magic school in the middle of what he assumed was nowhere. He grew a little confused along the way as he walked beside her, did that mean they were going to be even farther away? Reid hated losing friends, he's never lost one before and he wouldn't wish Sabrina to be the first to break that. Maybe she could go with him? She could go to his school too, well she couldn't - it bummed him out even more.

Why was this so hard? Now he didn't want to go to Hogwarts, what if he couldn't see her again? She would be going to a normal school and he would be going to a school for magic people? What if he sucked being a magic person? He was much happier with his life in Derby, change like this wasn't something he was fond of. "Scotland is ... so far." he mused, crawling up the rope of the jungle gym.

He followed her as he mumbled to himself, it was hard to hide how bummed out he was about it. "You're going to a private school too?" There was a slight groan in his voice as he plopped down to take a seat beside her. Reid leaned back against the palm of his hands, his lips pursed as he tried not to pout about the idea.

He should be happy for her, but that meant he wouldn't see her. He should congratulate her before she read the postcard from Cotswolds. "That's cool though!" he piped up with a crooked grin. "Send me more postcards, this time from Scotland. Oh!" Reid fixed himself to sit straight, propping himself on his crossed legs as he cradled his face between his hands. "Send me photos of the castle too, I'm jealous."

"Trouble usually finds me."

A weak smile pulled at Sabrina's lips as she tried to be enthusiastic. She had forgotten that she didn't inform Reid yet, but then again, she didn't know for sure if she were even going. She only hoped she would be accepted to Hogwarts. If she weren't, then she would probably go to Beauxbatons, or another wizarding school somewhere in the world. Possibly the American one - and that made her heart ache. It would be even further away from Reid and Derby than Scotland. She had to get into Hogwarts, she wouldn't be able to go that far away from Reid for such long periods of time. At least she knew that the journey from Derby to Hogwarts by owl was quicker than from Derby to France.

 "Scotland is ... so far."

Sabrina nodded her head, leaning her hands back on the warm surface of the jungle gym behind her, a small sigh escaping her. Scotland was still far, of course, but closer than any other wizarding school. "It is, but I'll be back for summers! My dad teaches there, so I'll kind of be switching homes!" She mentioned, trying to brighten up the situation. She didn't want it to end up being a down kind of day because of her mention of a private school.

"You're going to a private school too?"

"I am," She mused, before she caught on to the last part of the sentence. Too? Surely, she had heard him wrong. No way would he settle for private school and leave all of his friends in Derby without a good enough reason. She knew she had her's. "What do you mean, too? Are you heading to a private school too?" She questioned, just to be sure. There was a high chance that she could have misheard him, and if she was being honest, she kind of hoped it was that way. Because what if he didn't want to come home for summers when she was there? The thought of losing her closest friend pained her in a way, but she quickly shook it off.

"That's cool though! Send me more postcards, this time from Scotland. Oh! Send me photos of the castle too, I'm jealous."

This made Sabrina laugh a little bit, and she nodded her head once more, lifting her pinky to prepare to swear on doing so. Did they have postcards at Hogwarts? She doubted it. She could always design her own - though she wasn't quite the artist. The most she could do was draw a family of stickmen, with triangles for dresses, and rectangles for pants. Museum-worthy, obviously.

"I promise to you I'll send you all of the postcards I can find. Even if it spends all my sickles!" She proposed, before her mouth turned into an 'o' shape as she mentioned wizarding currency. She doubted that Reid would know about it, and quickly corrected herself, "I mean money. Anyways, tell me about this school you're going to! Did you only just decide on going recently? Is it like an all-boys school? Because those kind of suck, I wouldn't recommend you going to one of those." She grinned cheekily, clasping her hands together in her lap as she slouched in her spot, leaning forwards towards the boy that sat with her, a gesture that had become quite the habit when it came to talking with people. It made her feel like she could hear them better, when really, it didn't do much.

Sickles? Reid's brow shot up, frowning slightly at the weird sounding word. Sickles sounded like a sickness, was she sick? No, he wasn't that much of a buffoon to turn into such context. He tried not to get nervous that she found out he had said 'too', she was too sharp for him. Reid could barely run anything by her without her sleight of words, perhaps he was just too slow or didn't think enough.

Either way, he couldn't take anything back now - she asked and he was the worst liar in existence. He could try to lie, but the boy would crack and either probably laugh or burst into tears. The latter had only happened once when he lied about trying to steal the packets of katsup from the lunch room at the academy. It was a terrible ordeal and he wouldn't want to end up crying over something as lame as this, but he'd surely shed a few tears once Sabrina would leave.

"I uh - I'm going to ... I got this letter. It's from -" Reid was nervous and his nerves were causing him to forget. Should he tell her? It was too late, the boy had pulled his backpack from himself and fished around the bag. "Hambur - Hogwarts." he muttered lowly, pulling out a letter. Yet the boy froze and placed his hand over it just to cover it. A serious look crossed his features as he pursed his lips.

"But Sabby, you can't tell anyone I'm going to Hagwo - Hogwarts." What if she told her parents accidentally? Would he get in trouble? What if his parents found out he had told his best friend? Reid stuck his pinky out a look of expectance for her to agree to the terms, it was serious. Well his parents made the ordeal serious and he was afraid of the consequences of it. "Promise?"

"Trouble usually finds me."

"I uh - I'm going to ... I got this letter. It's from -"

Sabrina watched, slightly confused, as Reid shuffled his bag around so that it was in front of him. A letter to admit him to a school he couldn't even remember the name of? Was it truly worth leaving Derby over? She kept her uneasy look upon her face. She didn't want Reid to leave, and if she could, she would try her hardest to make him stay. Even if she wasn't staying! But.. would she stay if he asked her to? She thought it over, furrowing her eyebrows together slightly. Would she give up the chance to learn how to use magic in order to keep her best friend? Probably.

"Hambur - Hogwarts."

The girl's eyes widened at the word - Hogwarts. He had gotten a letter from Hogwarts? Surely, that meant her's was on the way. But wait, Reid was magical? Her lips parted, then pressed together once more as she pondered on how to respond. Was there even a good way to respond to this without being overly excited, or overly inquisitive? Probably not. Sabrina decided she should take the inquisitive route instead today, and quirked an eyebrow at him then. "Hogwarts?"

"But Sabby, you can't tell anyone I'm going to Hagwo - Hogwarts."

She pursed her lips slightly, glancing over to his hand once again, where he was in fact gripping onto a letter. She couldn't make out the writing on it, but she didn't doubt that for a second it would be from Hogwarts. How else would Reid have known about the school? She hadn't told him, and her mother would have killed her if she had let the news come out to a muggle, so she doubted that her mother had told him, either. It must have been true. She rose her pinky to interlock with Reid's, grinning, "Promise. Why would I tell anyone about the private school I'm going to other than you?" She asked, making some sort of failed attempt at making it obvious that she, too, was going to be attending Hogwarts without saying it straight up.

It dawned on her then that she wouldn't have to leave him, and the excitement part of her investigation came through, overpowering her somewhat inquisitive side that wanted to know which side of his family was magical, why she hadn't known about him being magical, and why she still had yet to receive her darn Hogwarts letter. Not like he would know the answer to the last question.

"Reid! We won't be too far after all!" She pointed out, now that she had basically told him that they were to be attending the same school after all. "We'll both be in Scotland. The same school, really," She chirped, happy with the outcomes of this situation. She wouldn't have to go into Hogwarts without any friends - she would get to have Reid there with her. She wouldn't have to do her homework alone, or be forced to socialize! What a great relief. Most times, she believed that the only friend she ever really did need was Reid, and for the most part that was true. Her only other friend was Molly Taggart, and she was a muggle from her elementary school, which she was now going to be abandoning, so Molly would probably no longer be Sabrina's friend. Not like she minded.

Things sometimes came slow to the boy, even after she blatantly told him she was also going to Hogwarts. He sat there with a stern look, his eyes glancing from the pinky and then to the girl. Good, she agreed, causing him to beam happily. Wait. His face fell as the news finally settled onto him. A blank and far off stare graced him. "Wha -"

Did she mean what she said? "Reid! We won't be too far after all!" She did! Reid broke the pinky and reeled back, looking a little too excited. "Really?!" he quipped, his voice cracking a bit. That was embarrassing but he didn't care, he was going with Sabrina to Hogwarts! But that meant she also knew magic. But for how long? He just found out a few days ago that his mom's side was like that.

Since then, he had so much questions that his mother would somewhat answer. He found quite a bit that made him pretty excited, some things that were a little too disheartening. Yet he wanted to know about Sabrina now, a friend who he thought he knew a lot about. He wasn't mad at her for not telling him, he was told how dangerous it could be if people knew - muggles. It was a word he wasn't used to hearing, one he never grew up around.

He didn't think of himself different, now he did. Did Sabrina think of him different? He resumed his position, face between his hands as he leaned forward. Some boys might think it weird to be this close to their girl friend, physically and just in general. Yet he didn't think anything of it, Reid always felt like he was on the same wavelength as the redhead and it made him comfortable. "Wait, Sabby - how long did you know? How long did you know you could do magic?"

His voice was more hushed, despite the park being mostly empty, he still exercised that caution. Reid wanted to tell her all about his mother's family, their work in the Ministry, and some other odd ends. But his mother never said if he could, should he? Of course he should! Sabrina was his best friend, he didn't want to hide stuff like this from her.

"I just found out a few days ago, I'm still kind of trying to understand it." There was some hesitance in his voice, he didn't know if this was a good or bad thing. For the longest time, he knew a different life - one he thought was normal. It was fantastical, but frightening. But he was glad he would be able to go with her, perhaps she could teach him.

"Trouble usually finds me."
