Music is an Art
♫24th December
There in the darkness of his own room, the young boy sat. It was not really dark dark, but it was dark enough to call it dark. Probably because it was a nice evening, around 9pm and this meant it was dark already, especially since it was winter. Elena was in the guest room, they simply could not share a bedroom and he liked to have his peace when he was going to sleep. Therefore Alan was on his own, sitting on his bed or the bed he learned to call his own for the time being, until his father and mother would be back.
The room looked like it vaguely representing himself, rather colorful and messy here and there. The books in his shelf were not sorted, making it difficult to find one that he was looking for, whenever he wanted to read. Most of his books had to do with creatures of fairy tales, because he loved stories and he also loved learning and reading about creatures. That was why he had signed up for R.O.A.M because he saw it as a great opportunity to get some knowledge and to finally be able to meet some of the creatures he always read about. Alan had never been in a zoo and if he was being honest, he also did not want that because sometimes the conditions were not that good for the animals, but he could not change that. He wished he could save all of those mistreated creatures, but he could not because he was just a young boy that dreamed big.
Alan leaned back against the wall, sitting crossed leg on his bed with the blanket lazily draped over his lap. The guitar he got from Brannon lay next to him and the second year's eyes slowly drifted to the instrument. He would stare at it for a few moment, before he picked it up, placing the melodic instrument on top of the blanket as he tried to hold it in the way Brannon taught him. He had learned a bit more about the instrument by now, but the size of it was still a bit big for the young Gryffindor but he would get used to it. With a few more thoughts he leaned over it, to observe the way he was placing his fingers over the strings. Taking a look around in his room, he could hear nothing but silence, making him bite his lower lip nervously. Without putting much more thought into it, he gently ran his fingers over the instrument's strings, making it produce a clear sound. It sounded alright in his understanding, so he shifted his left hand slightly, so that his fingers would press down on different areas; now when he run his right hand over the strings again another accord was played. Brannon had taught him the different movements, but it still sounded a bit off sometimes when he tried it. He sometimes would press down on the strings with too much or too little pressure or he had placed his left hand wrong. But now that he was concentrating and playing the accords in a slow pace, somewhat of a slow melody formed, making a small smile appear on Alan's face. He sat there for a while, just letting his finger run over the guitar, listening to the soft notes that were set free. The young started with humming to the melody, just slightly, but at some point he began to sing softly. His voice clearer than usually, he loved singing and he did not think anyone would be able to hear him. It made his voice more steady, but still let it keep its fragility. The words that left his lips may not make too much sense, but it calmed him down.
”Dunkles Zimmer,
doch nicht allein'
das gibt mir keinen Grund zu wein'
Raus aus dem Fenster
und in die Nacht,
kann ich seh'n, wie ein Stern erwacht.
Er strahlt hell, ja
und er strahlt warm;
er zaubert jedes Wesen zahm-
Zeigt er ist da,
trotz dunkler Nacht,
ein Stern der über dich nun wacht!
Er lässt dich ruh'n,
gibt auf dich Acht,
bis zum Ende der dunklen Nacht.”
After singing the last note, he would continue to play the guitar for a while, trying to improve on the accords, until he went to sleep.
Rough Translation - of course let's it lose lots of its meaning
“Dark Room,
but not alone,
therefore I have no reason to cry.
Out of the window
and into the night
I can see a star wake up.
He shines bright, yes
and he shines warm;
he charms every creature tame-
Shows he is there,
despite the dark night,
a star that now watches over you!
He let's you rest,
watches over you,
until the dark night ends.”
So yeah that was kind of what Alan sang...
