Two Birds
Location: Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
Time: January 2nd, 2021Waking up at 11 in the afternoon after New Years wasn't a surprise for Adlai as she normally wasn't one to stay up very late. However, her aunt suggesting the two of them go for a walk the moment she finishes her breakfast/lunch was a surprise. Of she said yes but she wasn't sure where it would get her.
Now, the two of them walked side by side on the ice covered walkway of her neighborhood. There was great contrast between the two of them. Margret had very fair and sharp facial features which were paired with a head full of long straight brown hair which had begun to grey at the roots. Margret also wore all black. On the other hand there was Adlai who was a darker and had round facial features. On top of that she wears a hijab and wears bright colors with vibrant patterns on them.
It was almost hilarious how different they were.
Once they were a decent ways from Adlai's house Margret began to speak.
"I know this probably isn't the best place or way to talk about this, but Adlai...have you heard about people who can speak to snakes?"
Adlai's eyes widened at the question. Of course she had! How could she have not, after all she was one of them! Not being able to form proper words at the moment all Adlai did was nod.
"Parselmouths, that's what those people are called..." Margret said as she peered down at her great niece to see if she was still paying attention.
"Our family is special Adlai. We aren't just witches and wizards, sometimes we are also Parselmouths. What I want you to know though is that being a parselmouth isn't a bad thing, ok?"
Still internally freaking out Adlai nodded once again before asking,
"Are you a parselmouth?"
A moment of silence hung in the air before she answered.
"Yes...yes I am. I knew very early on in my life that I was." She said.
"Now Adlai I want you to be very honest with me. Are you a parselmouth?"
Another moment of silence as Adlai stared up at Margret.
"Yes, I think so."
Margret nodded and the two stopped walking once they reached a crossing point between paths.
"That's ok, Adlai. In fact it's amazing. It isn't something to be ashamed of."
"I'm not ashamed. Just...confused."
"That's ok. Because even though I've known and experienced things due to this ability, I'm still confused too."
Adlai sucked in a breathe before hugging her aunt who tensed at the sudden movement and display of affection. Not knowing what to do she merely patted the girls back a bit before prying her off on her form. "Yes, well...we should start heading back. There is still much to do." She then turned on her heel and started making her way back to the home of her extended family with Adlai skipping close behind.
