Finished Food Motivation Errand

If there was one thing that Logan had never been able to catch onto, it was baking. Even while watching her mother bake cakes and other treats as a child, she was just not able to catch onto baking. It was a family thing though, because most of her family was unable to cook or bake anything. Logan was able to cook one thing though, and that was Scottish Tablet. So there was Logan, standing in her kitchen attempting to remember the recipe by memory. Zeus, the family's owl sat on the window sill, watching the girl carefully.

"What are you doing?"
Spinning around Logan sighed as she realized that it was only her younger brothers. "Baking tablet, now shoo because I need to concentrate." Her brothers went to say something else and she glared at them, "I will save some for you once I am done, but you have to leave so I can actually get it done." Both of the boys left the room, knowing that there was a possibility that they would get food in the end. The young Hufflepuff laughed as the boys took off out of the room, of course they were food motivated.

With a sigh, she thought about everything that she was going to need. Whole milk, butter, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Walking over to the cabinet on her left she sighed as she pulled out a rather large pot and a square tin. It wasn't very often that she even came into the kitchen, so the fact she knew were anything was was impressive.

"Okay, what's first," she mumbled to herself as she thought about the instructions for the sweet. "Milk and butter," she walked over to the stove and turned it to low heat. The Hufflepuff carefully measured out two cups of milk and poured into the large pot, allowing it to heat up for a little bit before adding in her cup of butter. The recipe wasn't too hard, although it was her first time making it by herself, so she wasn't sure how it was going to end. Remembering that she was going to need a thermometer, Logan called out to Kal, the house elf.

"Kal, do you know where there is a thermometer for cooking." Within seconds an older looking house elf appeared at Logan's side. "Here it is miss." The Hufflepuff took the thermometer from his hands with a smile. "Thank you Kal, I will call if I need anything else." With a quiet crack, the house elf disappeared out of sight. Realizing that the butter had melted, she quickly stirred the milk and butter to make sure it was thoroughly mixed. Next was what she thought was the hardest part.

Slowly Logan added sugar into the mixture of milk and butter. She had to make sure almost all of it was melted before she raised the heat. It took a little bit before the sugar had dissolved and she quickly brought the new mixture up to a boil. Stirring constantly so that the sugar would not burn or stick to the sides. Carefully, she put the thermometer into the mixture, watching to see when she had to add the next ingredient. She compared this part to making potions. You had to be precise when came to the heat and measurements or what you were creating was not going to come out the way you would want it to.

"Condensed milk is next," she muttered to herself as she carefully added the condensed milk into the mixture. Because the mixture was so hot, bits of sugar splattered every once in a while as the milk was added. She stirred the mixture in, careful to not burn herself with any of the mixture. Once it was stirred, she lowered the heat to allow the mixture to simmer.

"Is it almost done yet," Logan heard a voice call out into the kitchen. Of course the boys would be impatient and ask if it was almost done. The Hufflepuff was about half way done with the mixture now, so no it wasn't done. "What do you think," she yelled back as she looked at the clock near the stove. She had ten minutes left until she had to take it off of the heat all together. "Oh, okay." Logan rolled her eyes at the sound of her brother's voice as Zeus let out a hoot. She had completely forgotten that the owl was even sitting their. With a smile, she grabbed an owl treat off of the table and tossed it to the bird, who caught it effortlessly from the air.

"Times up," she muttered to herself as she turned the stove off and moved the pot to the counter, setting it on top of a towel to keep it from sliding. "Mixer, mixer, mixer," she muttered as she looked through the cabinets.

"Here you go miss," Kal had quickly appeared and placed the mixer on the counter and disappeared again. He had already disappeared before she could thank the small elf.

Logan carefully plugged the mixer in and remembered that she needed to mix it for 5 to 10 minutes before adding in the vanilla for flavoring. She just knew that her arms was going to fall asleep. She was right when she said her arm was going to fall asleep. It took her a total of 9 minutes to get the mixture stirred together thoroughly and get the vanilla added into it.

"Almost done," she muttered as she carefully spooned the sugary mixture into the greased pan. She would have to wait for the mixture to cool before she was able to cut it and put it into a tin to send off. As she waited for the sugary treat to set, she grabbed a tin out of one of the cabinets, as well as some grease-proof paper. She grabbed some ribbon out of the hall closet as well, hoping it would make transporting the sweets easier for the large owl.

Carefully cutting the sweets, she placed them one at a time into the prepared tin. It was a rather large tin, almost all of the sweets fitting into the container. Her brothers wouldn't be happy they didn't get a lot of a treat. "Here you go Zeus. You know where to take it." Logan stated to the large Eagle owl as his talons grabbed onto the ribbon around the large tin. Quickly the bird took off into the sky, away to deliver sweets to one of the professors.
