Tragedy Can Burn The Soul
Date: August 18th, 2020
Kara's return from Hogwarts was not very much an eventful one, but arriving home would definitely be different, as her sister, Mia, wouldn't be there to great her with a nice warm hug. Her brother knew of this and wanted to cheer the girl up, so when she arrived, since her parents had left for a dinner with their friends, Gabriel was in charge of making dinner.
The two were upstairs in Gabriel's room playing a family favorite, Uno, that of which Kara would destroy her family and everyone else at.
"I win again dear brother, you must recognize that I am always going to win." She said with a prideful tone, smirking at the boy.
"Oh come on Kara! At least I'm up for the challenge of playing with you!" He practically whined Kara's name, to which she scoffed.
The two continued on with their game, till Kara picked up a weird, almost burning, smell.
"Hey Gabriel, I'm not the only one who is smelling this, right?" Kara asked, a hint of fear in her voice.
Gabriel and Kara's heads then turned to his door, and then Kara got up. The smell got stronger as she neared the door. It was smoke, there was a fire. She touched the door, informing Gabriel of there being a fire, to which Gabriel's face melted into one of despair and disappointment in himself.
"I must've left the stove on when finishing dinner and then coming up here." He muttered woefully.
"YOU DID WHAT! Gabriel, this is a fire. I can't believe you! Yo- nevermind, call our parents on your phone before your stupid mistake gets us both killed. I'll go to Mum's office and call 999 on the phone in there." Kara lectures and instructed him.
Gabriel quickly grabbed went to grab his phone, but it wasn't there. Apparently, it was downstairs, Kara scowled at him but then he said he'd go down and grab it, which was an awful idea, but Gabriel had already opened the door and started running downstairs where the fire lapped the walls.
Kara screamed after him, but the smoke that was now upstairs now tickled her throat, making her cough, and then she immediately dropped to the ground, knowing that she'd be safer if she army crawled to her mother's office. She started her travels when she then heard the crumbling of wood and her brother's voice talking to their parent's in a strained tone.
Kara made it and had called 999, and they said that they were on their way, to which Kara saw the signal to go find her brother. Her whole face and body was covered in smoke and ash, her eyes watering and she was coughing violently.
She crawled as quick as her weakened body would take her. As when went downstairs, the only thing she saw the bright red flames, smoke, and her brother trapped under the same piece of wood she heard fall from the roof.
"Gabriel! Hey, come on, you're going to be fine, come on!" She said as she ran over, not caring about the flames licking her bare skin, as she was only in a tank top and shorts. She fell beside him, and Gabriel looked up at her with swollen, but solemn eyes.
"Don't worry Kara, you'll be fine." He whispered, barely heard over the raging fire.
Kara let tears stream down her face as sirens were heard, and her brother's body went limp. Her lungs burned, but she didn't care, her screams of anguish and the sirens were the only thing she could hear. The only things going through her mind were the words.
"He's gone.."
