Just two hours after he fell asleep, he felt someone shake him awake. He flinched, and his eyes opened immediately. Who he saw looking back at him was quite confusing. It wasn’t exactly who he expected, even though he didn’t expect anyone specifically.

Jackie Mason was standing there, looking at the boy, with the stupid lifeless eyes kids have. Wyatt wasn’t a big fan of young children, even though he himself was a young child.

In a young, chirpy voice, she said, "tea party?"

What was Wyatt supposed to say to that? No, I hate people your age? Was he supposed to watch a little girl cry because of something he said? He certainly didn’t want to.

Looking over the little girl's shoulder, he noticed Alec. The boy was fast asleep. He looked to be in such a deep sleep, the sound of a building toppling to the ground wouldn't be able to wake him up.

“Fine… give me a minute, please? I’ll get ready and then we can have tea.”

He got some clothes from his suitcase. Gray jeans he’d accidentally ripped (it was a mistake, but he liked them that way), a thrifted shirt that his mother never liked, and his father’s old red flannel. He also grabbed his toothbrush, and toothpaste, and made his way to the bathroom.

It was still sort of early, 6 in the morning, so he was able to get into the bathroom without waiting. He changed, brushed his teeth, and went back to the room to put his toothbrush and toothpaste away. He and Alec still didn’t really like each other (he assumed) and he didn’t want to risk his toothbrush being tossed in the toilet.

In the room, in the corner of his eye, he saw his portable record player and a box of all his records. He picked it up and brought it over to Jackie's room. The little girl was standing in the doorway of her room, waiting. She’d set up her little tea set, and began tipping the kettle to pour air into the little cups.

The table and tea set were just like Wyatt saw in the picture Alec drew.

Wyatt found an outlet and plugged in the record player. Then, he looked through the records in the box. He wondered what kind of music he should start the little girl on. If Alec didn’t listen to music, there was no way his little sister did. He found two albums, two of his favorites, and both "kid-friendly."

The Slytherin held up George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, and The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. Jackie wore a face, and if it were viewed out of context, you’d think she was making the most difficult decision of her life. Like choosing which of her stuffed animals was her favorite.

She eventually chose A Hard Day’s Night, which made total sense. It had a more colorful cover, and Jackie was a child after all. “Good choice.” He set the record down on the player, and it began playing the title song.

He made sure the song was quiet enough that you wouldn't be able to hear it with the door closed.

She stood up and started dancing. Wyatt couldn't possibly bite back a smile at that. It was too endearing.

Alec had woken up an hour or so later. It was weird. Something was missing. Alec hadn't even opened his eyes yet, and he was trying to figure out what he was forgetting. Wait, why hadn't Jackie woken him up? Did he wake up earlier than usual? That wasn't really typical for Alec. Or was it becoming the new typical? Alec wasn't sure all he knew was he was starting to freak out. He finally opened his eyes, sitting up in his bed then throwing the blanket off himself. Making it hit the wall because of how fast he'd done it. "Welp.." Alec said. Before shaking his head. Please stay focused, Alec.
Standing up he put on the first thing he could find from his closet. Making sure that it at least matched. Look, even Alec had standards. Even if at Hogwarts his disheveled appearance sought otherwise. And by that Alec meant he didn't care if his hair was messy or if his robes were wrinkled, but did care about what he wore. And did have a small negative opinion on the uniforms at Hogwarts. His outfit ended up being a shirt he'd 'borrowed' from his sister's(Nina's) closet a long while ago. It didn't even fit her anyway, jeans, some kind of belt he had from somewhere that he didn't even remember getting, white socks, and plain white shoes with a little stripe of black curving around the back end of each them.
By this point Alec had forgotten Wyatt even existed. He was way too worried about where his sister might be. Once he'd had everything on he rushed out of his bedroom, his messy and curly hair falling into his eyes. "Stupid hair. I don't have time for this" Alec mumbled a bit bitterly. His first thought was the kitchen. Maybe she'd tried to get some food for herself this morning?
He went to the kitchen. No such luck. Okay.. Well, is she asleep than.. still? Alec rushed back up the stairs, not pausing to catch his breath till he was at the door way of his younger sister's room. He held onto the door way for support as he caught his breath. Not even realizing what was happening in the room. Even while looking in it because he was trying to catch his breath. Two sets of stairs trying to go at super fast speeds did not do well on anybody's lungs.
Once he finally had he froze at the sight. Now Alec didn't normally swear. Even in his mind. But What The Hell? Seriously, what did Wyatt think he was doing hanging out with Alec's little sister alone. Just because they'd some common interests or something like that last night. Did not mean Alec trusted Wyatt alone with his little sister. At all. Why was he even hanging out with her anyway? Alec would have just preferred he didn't. It didn't exactly show other than Alec's furrowed brows, but he was practically fuming.
Alec finally cleared his throat to make his presence known.

By the time the abominable Alec entered Jackie’s room, they were listening to a different album, one Jackie picked out all by herself, mostly because it was another very colorful album cover. She’d chosen another Beatles record, Wyatt noted how the little girl already had such good taste, even if she was judging the records by the cover art alone.

The little girl had paused the tea party to grab Wyatt by the hand, and make him dance with her. He rolled his eyes, but how could he say no!? They were listening to Hello, Goodbye. The little girl was a shameless dancer. Bopping around, and swaying, twirling. Hell, she spun Wyatt around once! Even he could admire her extroverted nature.

Wyatt turned immediately when he heard Alec enter the room, even before he cleared his voice. He slowly walked over to the record player, and took the needle off of the record (to Jackie’s great displeasure). As he did it, he made an exaggerated record scratch noise with his mouth. Jackie laughed at that. Wyatt found himself warming up to the little girl. She was hilarious.

“Hello. Have you come to spoil the fun?”

Okay, maybe he was just embarrassed because Alec caught him dancing with a five-year-old.

Alec rolled his eyes. "Yes, very much so" Alec said, his tone both sarcastic and serious. Alec then turned his attention to Jackie who was oblivious to the two's odd rivalry. "You haven't eaten.. I assume. Aren't you hungry?" Alec asked Jackie with a raised brow. It was very different from the way Alec had been acting last night. His sorta shy smiling self was now the tone of someone who had somewhat more 'authority' in a sense.
It took the girl a moment to answer, mainly because she was deciding what she'd ask Alec for, for breakfast once she'd answered. But eventually decided on a simple choice. Cereal. Something she could probably do herself. She gave herself a small nod before answering. "Nope!" followed by. Her saying "Cereal" as what she was going to eat as she walked out of the room. "Bu-" and she was gone. Alec let out a small sigh. Small children were very confusing
But now Alec's expression had softened just a bit. He was both mad at Wyatt and also felt the need to apologize. Alec let out a small sigh. "I'm sorry she woke you. Next time please wake me if she does.. I don't exactly want her alone with you" Alec's tone was soft. It was at all mean or anything of that sort. Almost the more of a worried parent type thing.
At least she was safe. It was all Alec could think or really ask. There were so many more worse scenarios he could come up with in his mind than this. If anything it was the best-case scenario. Even if he didn't trust Wyatt. It gave Alec some sort of relief knowing she'd been somewhat safe in his care. Which was saying a lot. Not like he'd ever admit this out loud, of course.

"Next time please wake me if she does.. I don't exactly want her alone with you."

“Excuse me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?” After all that, Alec was back to being a prick. What a brat. Wyatt was an idiot for believing they had made any progress with their casual conversation last night. “In case you haven’t noticed, your sister is very much alive and well, but you can’t accept someone surviving five minutes in a room with the evil Wyatt Starkey because then I'm not the bad guy anymore.”

Wyatt was sick of being kicked around by losers. He was really just so short-tempered these days. “I know you only play the parent because you feel you have to but she’s not your little play-thing you can boss around, Alec. She can make most of her own decisions, anyway. I think she's smart.”

Wyatt understood why Alec felt like he had to be the parent. The real parents were always fighting as it seemed, and Alec may have also felt more obligated to help because of his sister's condition.

Maybe Wyatt was a little messed up in his five-year-olds-are-smart-enough-to-handle-themselves beliefs, but when he was five, he made his own breakfast, lunch, and dinner, cleaned the house, and did the laundry most of the time. His mother was always working, and his father was out every day from early in the morning to late at night at some pub getting drunk. It was better that way. Things got messy when his dad was home, though it was the worst when it was just him and Wyatt.

Alec let out a slight scoff. "Five minutes, huh? She wakes me up at six every morning , I doubt it's still six" Alec said. "I just don't want her to get hurt. I'd blame myself if something ever happened to her because I let her out of my sight," Alec said followed by a small sigh. "It would be my fault. And I'd feel awful. But that's clearly something you wouldn't understand. The second I ask you to just wake me next time. It's not that hard. And I'm not asking much" Alec said.
Then shook his head, looking away. "Forget it." Alec mumbled. He wasn't going to get it through to Wyatt, anyway. And it's not like Wyatt cared if Alec felt soul crushing guilt for the rest of his life. While he told Wyatt to forget it. Alec was not going to. He was going to set an alarm or something so if she didn't end of waking Alec up. He'd be up just to make sure she was safe.
Besides, who else was supposed to watch her if Alec didn't? Alec's mom was either asleep or busy with something. And Alec's dad was already at work. What was Alec supposed to do? ' Mother would you be a dear and watch your child?' or maybe 'Father take off work now. I do not care if you get fired. Just watch your child' Seriously?
Besides. This little girl was basically both affection and attention starved. Which just like food is crucial in childhood development.. apparently. So Alec wanted to be up to now give her good morning hugs and everything. Something Alec missed out on. It was a lot like he was invisible or in the background. Just not ever there or noticeable to anybody. And even if he was noticed, it's not like anyone actually cared.
In a way, he just wanted to provide something he was never given. He didn't have the exact word for it yet, but he knew there was something lacking.. Affection probably fit best.. Even if that wasn't the perfect way to describe it.
Alec turned around, facing the hallway. "I'm gonna go get some breakfast now" He said.

"I'm gonna go get some breakfast now."

“Have fun,” Wyatt said, bitterly.

Alec was really getting on Wyatt’s nerves. They both had blackmail on each other, wasn’t that supposed to mean they’d at least be semi-respectful? Isn’t that the point? And of all the kids in the school who’s parents could’ve known Wyatt’s mother… Alec J. Mason?

It was only the worst because Alec knew Wyatt personally. Any other kid in the school would’ve been terrified of Wyatt, because of the rumour he studies dark magic and is related to Death Eaters. At first, the rumour was a terrible thing, but it was amazing when you got used to it.

No one dared to look him in the eye, or look at him at all. It was like if they were within 10 feet of each other, Wyatt would curse them to hell. Such a dumb rumour. If it was about anyone else, Wyatt wouldn’t believe it. A twelve-year-old studying dark magic? Only the next Dark Lord would be on that level already, it was ridiculous.

Wyatt walked past Alec and went back into Alec’s bedroom. He picked up his bass and started playing a few riffs and whatnot.

The Slytherin had no intention of eating. His appetite had long vanished, and he’d actually started liking the feeling of his stomach aching and grumbling for food. It made him feel alive again, or at least it made him feel something. Feeling was hard to come across recently.

Everything seemed more difficult since…

Well… since… you know.

It took thirty whole minutes to clean up. A nice waste of Alec's morning. Not like he had much to do, anyway. That and he wanted to just avoid Wyatt all summer.. If possible. Or well, just pretend he didn't exist. It wasn't exactly that hard to do. Plus Nina would probably talk to him if he git that bored. Or maybe he'd even be allowed to go outside. Alec let out a small scoff at Wyatt's response before heading downstairs. His eyes widening at the sight of milk all over the kitchen counter. This is why Alec shouldn't have left her alone! It was only more proof. Alec shook his head. "Let me help you. Not only have you made a mess but your trying to put the milk in before the cereal" Alec said as he helped her. Then stared at the mess. Letting out a sigh he cleaned up all the spilled milk, muttering something and shaking his head as he did.
I mean what was Alec's mom supposed to say to Wyatt anyway? Wyatt wasn't even her kid. Why did she even agree, anyway? If kids were just a hassle or something like that to her, how come she offered to watch Wyatt for the summer? Wait.. backtracking on that logic for a moment, wasn't she responsible for him because she agreed to watch him this summer? I mean, it wasn't forced. She didn't have to.
Alec ended up eating cereal too. Then grabbing a cereal bar for Wyatt he wasn't sure if Wyatt was actually going to leave the room for a while and Alec's mom got annoyed if you were eating between the times you were supposed too. It was around elevenses, so Alec assumed his breakfast counted for that this morning. Plus Alec wasn't really in the mood for tea this morning. Besides, if it meant his enemy would just leave him alone for at least a few more hours. Then so be it.
And besides, besides, Alec needed to check up on Cookie before he spent the rest of the day childishly playing make believe with Jackie. Running up the stairs, Alec passed his bedroom door before realizing he had. Seriously? Alec shook his head, walking back into his room and tossing the cereal bar at Wyatt before checking up on Cookie. Who wasn't even there..

Wyatt didn’t know how long he was sitting there plucking the strings of his bass, what was he supposed to do, count the seconds? He wasn’t thinking about anything, really. Just him and the bass in a quiet room. What snapped him out of his daze was a cereal bar to the chest. It landed on his bass. He picked it up and set it down next to him on the bed.

He looked up to say thank you, and noticed Alec who seemed frozen in place. The boy was looking up at the corner of his side of the room. Wyatt was very confused to say the least. What was so special about that corner- oh.

Oh, shit. Ohhh, shiiit. Shit… shit. Oh shit.

Cookie. Where was Cookie? WHERE WAS THE DAMN SPIDER!? Wyatt bent over to look below the bed, and saw Perseus under the bed, licking his lips. The bloody snake hissed, “I couldn’t help it.” Oh, shit. Wyatt sprung back up and looked down at the bass, pretending not to have seen anything before fake-looking up.

“What’s wrong?” His voice seemed so sincere. Wyatt was an amazing liar… which is good for Wyatt, but pretty bad in general. Either he’d have to take Alec’s shit for murdering a spider (which he didn’t do) or he’d have to say, Alec, there’s a snake in your room that I accidentally brought here because this snake is my only friend.

He decided he was going to go with the former. No one could know about his ability.

Alec just stood there staring for a bit. Cookie had been here since Alec had gotten home from Hogwarts and Alec wasn't going to admit it. But he'd gotten very fond of the spider. The web was there intact.. Cookie rarely left it. It's not like Cookie really needed to. Alec messed with the sleeve of his shirt for a bit. He was trying to muster up.. Courage? No.. That wasn't exactly the right word. Some sort of mask or something.
"I-It's-It's um.." Stupid. He thought. It was stupid. Stupid that he wanted to cry. Stupid that he ever cared about a stupid little spider he'd met at the start of the summer. Stupid that he even went up here in the first place. The Spider Was Dead. And Alec had probably stepped on it sometime while he was being careless. Alec's shoulders drooped slightly. "nothing.." Alec mumbled.
It was all Alec could really make out in words. He was upset and distraught and well.. some other words for whatever else. Alec turned around, trying his best to fake a small which semi worked. "Just umm.. Forgot that.. umm" Alec come up with something now. Wyatt knows about Cookie, he's gonna make fun of you once he realizes why you seemed so upset! "Nina was going out with friends today?" Alec suggested. He didn't seem too sure about it though.
"And.. I was gonna ask her.. if um um.. I could.. borrow some of her clothes?" He also suggested very unsure of that answer too. Well, he did take 'borrow' Nina's clothes from time to time. He never exactly asked.
