Josephine was, in a word, bored. Her large house was normally very empty, but today felt even emptier. Mother and Father were away on a rather extravagant day out. Their monthly date night Jo called it. Romance was such a silly thing. Didn't they eat dinner together every day? Didn't they sleep together every night? She assumed they would have got tired of each other by that point, not dedicate an entire day to spending more time together.  Adults were strange.

Her boredom had lead her to aimlessly explore the family manor. She knew most of it with her eyes closed of course. It was the only home she's ever known. But there were a few rooms here and there that she rarely step foot in. Mostly because they were used for storage, or of course, Father's office. So that's how she found herself standing outside of the most isolated room in the house. Way back in the back hall on the third floor. A hall with no other doors or windows, there it sat. A large wooden door with no door knob.

She stood there for what felt like ages. Just staring at the door. How did it open? Did it open? Was it cursed? Eventually, she got tired of asking questions and decided to try something. Jo reached out and put her hand on the door gently. Maybe there was a secret latch or something. Suddenly the door got very hot. "Ow!" she said as she pulled her hand away. Right where she was touching was what looked like a bloody hand-print. Jo nervously looked at her hand, but was relieved to find her hand was uninjured, just a little dusty. The door then slowly creaked open.

What was inside confused to young witch even more. It was a dark, dusty room. Completely empty except for what looked like an old shoe sitting on the floor. Her brow narrowed. Why would such a strange door have such a useless thing behind it? She walked into the room and slowly picked up the shoe. But that was when a lot of things started happening.

A strange sensation rushed over Jo. It felt like something had grabbed her by the stomach and grabbed her upwards. The world seemed to fade into a series of fast moving blurs. She felt like she was moving fast. Racing broom at full speed fast. She wasn't sure how long this continued. But when it stopped the strangeness didn't. She looked around and found herself in the lobby of a fancy muggle hotel. Not that she knew what a muggle hotel looked like. She was still clutching the old shoe for dear life.

A powerful wave of sickness overtook her. She fell to her hands and knees and vomited on the ground for moments. When she was finally able to regain control, she wiped her mouth with the sleeve of her purple robe and looked around. That must have been a portkey. Why father had a portkey hidden in the house she had no idea, but that was the only thing that made sense.

A small group of people had started gathering around the young, strangely dressed girl that had just seemingly appeared from thin air and starting vomiting all over the floor. She immediately started panicking. She had no clue where she was, but she could tell she was surrounded by muggles. This wasn't good.

She shook the show at the nearest person threateningly until the backed up and immediately sprinted out of the door into the street.  Being in the middle of Edinburgh did not help her panic. Her mind couldn't really comprehend what was going on. So she kept running as fast as she can. Eventually she found herself in some kind of park. It wasn't empty, but it wasn't as crowded as the city streets, so she stopped to catch her breath. As the adrenaline faded, the sick feeling start coming back. She sat down on the ground where she was at, all of her strength going to not vomiting again. "Oh Merlin, I'm in a lot of trouble"

Elizabeth was absolutely bored out o her mind. She'd been home for maybe a month now, and the most exciting thing to happen to her had been when her younger brother had somehow gotten into her step-mother's makeup, and cried when it wouldn't come off. Other than that, she had been stuck on babysitting duty. Rarely did she ever get a day where she wasn't taking care of James, Jada, and Anna.

Except for this day. Her step-mother, Emilia, had gotten of work early, and was now able to take care of her biological children, while Liz could finally get out of the house and do something. As soon as she'd heard the keys unlocking the front door, she'd bolted to the hall and grabbed her Wellington's. It wasn't raining outside, but it had rained the night before, and there were many and more puddles in the streets, and the grass was just about soaking wet. Liz had cried out a quick goodbye and fled out the door.

If you were anywhere near Edinburgh- no, Scotland, you would've heard the shriek of delight that escaped the small girl's mouth. She was free, she didn't need to change any diapers, wipe any snotty noses, or deal with any crying children. She was out in the world and there was nothing holding her back. Well, except for laws.

"Oy, shut ya trap, dae's people tryna work!"

And grumpy adults.

"Oy, then get it done." She shouted back, before running down the street, away from her house and her grouchy neighbours, away from responsibilities and towards the park.

The park was her second favourite place to go, after her secret lake. It was usually calm if no children were there, and even then, the children were usually well behaved. Edinburgh was a high class town, and appearances were important, even among kids. Hence why it made her father so angry when she got her Hogwarts letter.

She'd nearly reached the park when she heard two ladies gossiping as they walked by her.7

"...just appeared in the middle of the hotel. Vomited all over the floor too."

Liz turned around to watch the two elderly women as they walked away, wondering what on earth they were talking about. What just appeared in the middle o a hotel? And then it hit her. Literally. She walked directly into a strange girl who seemed to be on the verge of tears and vomiting. She was dressed almost in a wizard way. Her outfit seemed magical.

"Oy, what where ya- oh, are you alright?"

Do not assume that because I am small that I am weak; I have the heart and strength of a lion.

Time was a strange thing. Jo was never able to understand how it seemed to slow down and speed up at random. For example, she was certain that she had sat there on the grass for a century. But from outwards appearances time had not changed at all. It was a mystery beyond even the greatest of witches she supposed. But greatness and knowledge would never come to those sitting on the ground. It took a great deal of strength but she was finally able to lift herself up off the ground. She took a second to dust herself and try to gather her thoughts.

"Okay Jo, step one is to try and figure out where you are" she mumbled, not entirely aware she was speaking out loud. She was somewhere in muggleland. That was the beginning and end of her knowledge.  She didn't even know if she was still in Eurpoe, no less Scottland. It wasn't Kentra, that was certain.  Maybe there was someone from the magical community around here. How to find them was a different matter. Didn't mother say something about purple and black? Uggg, it was so confusing.

Jo was just starting to get her senses back when WHAM! Something plowed into her. Jo fell right back to the ground and looked up at whatever ran into her. Oh no! A muggle! The panic was back. Tears started gathering in her eyes, her stomach was barely hanging on. It was not a fun time.

Jo had never interacted with a muggle before. Did they bite? Did they speak the same language? Could they tell she was a witch? Was she going to Azkaban for being here? None of those thoughts were comforting.

"Oy, what where ya- oh, are you alright?" Jo suddenly found it very hard to speak. Words were impossibly hard to form. She extended the shoe in a shaky hand like some kind of weapon. She wasn't sure exactly what kind of damage a used portkey could cause but maybe it would be enough to not get...whatever it is muggles did to witches. Did they still burn people on a steak? She could have sworn the girl took a step closer, though that may have been her imagination "Don't eat me!" she squeaked out and tried to scoot away from the stranger.

Liz watched with amusement as the girl held out a ratty old shoe with her shaky hand, her entire aura screaming that she was terrified currently. Liz didn't know whether to laugh at the shoe or the fact that the strangely dressed girl thought it would have some sort of effect on her.

"Don't eat me!"

Okay, now Elizabeth definitely knew what to laugh at. Not only was this a girl a lunatic, but she was a lunatic who thought Edinburgh had cannibals- there hadn't been one in hundreds of years, unless you count One-Eyed Sam, who was always munching on some sort of... strange, unrecognizable food that many of the neighbourhood children thought was child flesh. In no way, shape, or form was Elizabeth a cannibal.

"Well, a'right, you're absolutely off your rocker. Which asylum did you escape from, lass?" She asked slowly, treating her like a small child despite the fact that the girl in front of her was a good few inches taller than herself. On the outside, she seemed calm and collected, but on the inside, she was terrified and clutched her wand tightly in the pocket of her dad's old jacket. She knew she wasn't supposed to use magic outside of school, but you never knew when it would come in handy in the shady parts of Edinburgh. A wand was better than pepper spray.

"Well, a'right, you're absolutely off your rocker. Which asylum did you escape from, lass?" Despite the condescending tone, a sigh of relief escaped Jo as she dramatically fell from her sitting position to her back. She would recognize that accent anywhere. The one father made her do her best to hide when in public. The worst case scenario didn't happen.  "Thank Merlin, I'm still in Scotland," she sighed and let out another big breath. "Tell me muggle girl, what city am I in?"

Jo slowly started getting up. Deep inside, she knew she should still be worried, but the initial panic was over and even that much felt like a miracle. At least she didn't end up somewhere like Canada or Australia. She was going to be in enough trouble as it was, she didn't need to added issue of being in the wrong country.  "Do any of your neighbors wear a lot of purple and green? If so, can you lead me to them?" She asked as she tried in vain to properly dust her robes off. How much was she allowed to say? How long did she have before the Ministry came hunting for her? What would they do this poor girl? To the people in the hotel? Did they just send oblivators? Would she get obvliated too? Jo didn't think she very much liked the sound of that. Maybe there was a way to reach her family without letting the Ministry know. They couldn't be watching every underage witch all the time could they?

The red head picked the shoe up off the ground and carefully examined it. If she left this laying around, was there a chance it would reactivate? Did this count as a magical artifact? There was too much she didn't know. It wasn't a fun feeling. There was a lot of research Jo wanted to remember to do once she got to Hogwarts.

"Thank Merlin, I'm still in Scotland. Tell me muggle girl, what city am I in?"

Elizabeth's eyebrows rose all the way to her hairline as she processed what she had just been told. She stared at the oddly dressed girl and slowly processed that she must be wearing wizard clothes, and she herself was a witch. Before Liz had time to say anything else, the redhead spoke again.

Do any of your neighbours wear a lot of purple and green? If so, lead me to them."

The brunette rolled her eyes at the commanding tone and crossed her arms across her chest, her green eyes narrowed.

"First o' all, wizard girl," She said mockingly, "you really should not judge people by their appearances. Lucky for you that I'm half-blood and not some muggle who would've called the damn Bobby's. Second of all, don't tell me what to do."

She said all of this with an irritated look, then noticed that the girl was just staring at her ratty old shoe. Liz rolled her eyes and sighed as the taller girl picked it up and seemed to be stuck in her own little world.

"Oy." She snapped her fingers in front of the redhead's eyesight, gaining her attention again.  "What's your name?"

"Oy." snap "What's your name?" Jo yelped in surprise as her attention was forced back to Earth. At that moment, all of the words this muggle girl had said came rushing to her. She wasn't a muggle after all! At least, not fully! It was close enough! She dropped the shoe and tightly embraced Elizabeth as if she was a long lost relative, and let out a happy sequel in the process. Bot going to Azkaban was the best news she'd had all day.

"I am Josephine Bryan..." she introduced and paused, "Call me Jo, all of my friends do. And you are?" Clarke counted right? That was at least one, so she wasn't technically lying. But then a whole new thought came to her. "Your parents. They don't work for the Ministry do they? I am not entirely sure I am supposed to be here.  It was an accident you see." would she even understand a portkey? She had to, right? She wasn't entirely muggle. But how wizard she was had yet to be determined.

"Errr, I still don't know where I am. We're not near Kentra are we? I've not traveled in the muggle world much you see" Or at all. But the dark haired girl didn't need to know that.
