A Campbell Christmas
PV Kai Greene
It was December 22nd and just beginning to snow as Amadea stepped off of the train, trunk rolling along beside her. She tilted her face up to the sky, letting the cool, refreshing drops chill her face. She had finished her first semester at Hogwarts and felt very pleased. While she loved her new school, she was glad to be home.
Despite this, she was still a bit nervous. When she had left, she and her sister had been on shaky terms with each other. Neither of them had done anything wrong, but Amadea suspected that Katerina was jealous of her magical abilities. Amadea wished there was something she could do or something she could say that could fix whatever gap had come between them, or what was that phrase, “wave a magic wand and fix everything,” as muggles often said. Amadea did have a magic wand, but she didn’t think it would be much help in fixing the distance that had come between her and her sister. Even so, Amadea was determined to make amends with her sister. She missed their closeness, and she missed the rest of her family as well.
As usual, the Campbells were spending their holiday with their close family friends, the Greenes. Amadea wasn’t quite sure how they had met, she was pretty sure their parents had met in college, but Amadea’s family had been close with the Greenes long before Amadea was even born. They always spent important holidays and other events together. If she was being honest, Amadea would say that her family was closer with the Greenes than they were with any of their blood-relatives.

As Amadea walked, she immersed herself in the memories of many past Christmases they had spent together. Kai, the only one of the Greene triplets to accompany her to Hogwarts, was always the most upbeat and spirited person at the celebrations. She was the least Slytherin-like Slytherin Amadea knew. Her two other halves, Alanna and Amelia always stuck to each other like glue. Amadea found herself growing excited to see her family again. She missed the other two girls as much as she did Katerina and her parents.
She turned to make sure Kai was next to her, walking alongside and stopped at the brick wall where the exit from Platform 9 3/4 ended. Beyond led to the city of London and her family waiting on the other side. "Ready to see everyone?" Amadea asked the girl standing next to her.

I wasn't sure the exact date that their break started so I just made it a few days before Christmas.

A Campbell Christmas
As much as she loved Hogwarts, Kai was eager to leave for Christmas break. She hadn't seen her father and triplet sisters, Alanna and Amelia, since September -which is the longest that they have ever been apart. They had both been extremely supportive of her attendance at Hogwarts, never once complaining that they didn't have magical abilities; that was one of the many reasons Kai loved them so much, along with their ability to make Kai laugh constantly, and the fact that they can practically read each others' minds.
Kai smiles at these thoughts until the train suddenly jerks to a halt, interrupting her thoughts. She peers across the train compartment to see Amadea, who is like her third sister. They have known each other for longer then they can remember, although they haven't spent as much time together as they would like given that they lived over 150 miles away from each other. When they found out that they were both witches, they had both been ecstatic, especially about the fact that they would be spending more time with each other. Although they were sorted into different houses, they remained best friends throughout their first semester.
The doors of the train open up, once again interrupting her memories. Kai and Amadea step onto the platform together, making their way towards the exit where their families are waiting. Amadea turns to her asking her, "Ready to see everyone?"; Kai nods silently in return. They step into King's Cross Station together, and Kai spots her sisters and father beaming at her as they start to make their way towards Kai and Amadea.

A Campbell Christmas
Amadea followed after her Slytherin friend as she stepped through the wall into the train station of London. Looking around, she tried to look for her family, finally spotting them as they made their way through the crowd, trying to reach Kai and Amadea.
Amadea threw her arms around her parents, hugging them tightly at the same time as dropping her trunk on the ground. It was a solid ten seconds before they pulled apart and finally looked at each other. Amadea's mother had tears in her eyes and Amadea eye's were growing wet as well. Her father, always the stoic one, simply smiled and patted Amadea on the back. "Good job, kid," he said. "It's good to see you." Amadea smiled, accepting his praise.
She turned to Mr. Greene and the rest of the Greene family. She hugged them all. When she pulled away, she turned back to her parents and asked, "Where's Kat?"
Her parents exchanged a few glances before turning back to Amadea. "She's at home," her father said finally. Amadea could tell there was something they were not saying. Kat was probably still mad at Amadea; she still needed her "time." It was no matter, Amadea reminded herself. Her perspective had changed a lot since coming to Hogwarts and she no longer needed the reassurance of her sister for everything, though she wouldn't have minded if she had it.
The families headed out of the busy train station and toward the car that would bring them to their roomy London apartment. She turned to Kai. "Do you think much has changed since we've left?" she asked, trying to make some conversation.

A Campbell Christmas
After spotting her family, Kai pushes through the crowd to meet them. When she arrives, she disappears from sight, completely enveloped by her dad and two sisters. After a few seconds, they all pull back, revealing someone who Kai had not seen earlier- her mom. "Oh my gosh! Mom! You're here!," Kai screeched, rushing towards her with her arms open. She hadn't seen her mother in over a year because she lived hours away from the rest of Kai's family. Her parents had only been divorced for a year, but to Kai, it felt like it had been an eternity.
After embracing her mother, Kai turned back to her father with questions in her eyes. "We thought it would be fun to bring the whole family back together for Christmas," her dad explained.
"It was so hard not to tell you in our letters!" Alanna, her sister, interjected.
"I hope you don't mind the surprise..." Kai's mom trailed off, as if asking a question.
"Are you kidding?", Kai interrupted herself by wrapping her mom's waist, "Of course I don't mind! This is one of the best gifts of my life!"
Kai looked around, beaming at her famliy, before spotting Amadea with her parents, but for some reason, she couldn't see Kat. Maybe she was behind a stranger? Kai and her family made their way towards the Campbells, but there was still no sign of Kat. Kai decided it was better not to ask why she wasn't there, in case it was a touchy subject. Instead, the group walked out of the station to the cars. "Do you think much has changed since we've left?" Amadea asked Kai.
"I guess we'll just have to find out! Maybe my family adopted a cat, that would be amazing! I love cats... and dogs, of course! Dogs are so good too! Really just all animals are awesome. Plants are kind of cool too but..." Kai realised that she was babbling nonsense and clammed up, looking immediately embarrassed. "Anyways, we should probably leave now," Kai blurted as she jumped into the back of the car, hiding her scarlet face from view.

A Campbell Christmas
Amadea was surprised to see both Mr. and Mrs. Greene waiting for the girls as they said their hellos. She honestly couldn't remember the last time she had seen Mrs. Greene, as they had all become much closer with Mr. Greene, both emotionally and also distance wise. From the looks of it, Amadea figured they were probably getting back together, or if not getting back together, trying to work things out. That was good, Amadea thought. She missed having Mrs. Greene around. When she had first left, whenever the families were together, it almost felt unbalanced. That could all change now that Mrs. Greene was back.
Amadea slowed her thoughts, making sure she wasn't getting ahead of herself. She always painted fantasy worlds in her head of things she wished could be but in reality weren't. Sometimes they were of things that had already happened, but usually they were about things that had yet to happen. When the event did occur, she always felt disappointed when it didn't turn out to be the way she had pictured it in her mind. She knew these daydreams were not realistic and they wouldn't help her be happy, but sometimes she couldn't shut her brain off, no matter how hard she tried. This was one of those cases.
Thankfully, everyone starting chattering and talking, so Amadea had no choice but to shut off her thoughts and listen to what everyone was saying. Kai was answering her question about what had changed, talking about the different animals that could be waiting for them back at the house.
"Oh, I would love if we came home to a dog or cat," Amadea exclaimed wistfully, her fantasies getting the best of her again. Her parents had always said their apartment in the heart of London was too small for any animal and refused to get a furry friend, not even a small one! No matter what she or her sister said, they weren't successful in changing their parent's minds. Maybe that would all change now that Amadea had been at Hogwarts. Who was she kidding? Of course nothing would be different. But maybe she could save her money and buy herself an animal to keep at Hogwarts, in which case she would have no choice but to bring it home for vacations. Then it could practically be both her and Kat's animal.
The families reached the car, and Amadea opened the trunk, plopping her trunk inside. Then she walked around to the side, getting in. Since she was the smallest, she automatically always had the middle seat. She never complained though. Being in the middle meant that she got to be in the middle of all of the conversations. If someone wanted to talk, they had to talk around her, which made her automatically involved in the conversation. As the car pulled away, Amadea decided to ask another question to keep the conversation going. "Where do you think Kat is?" she asked Kai.

A Campbell Christmas
Kai was sitting in the car, lost in her own thoughts. She was still recovering from the shock of seeing her mom still wasn't really sure why she had been there in the first place. Sure, her dad had said something about being together on Christmas, but Kai sensed that there was more to it than just that. She seriously doubted that her parents were getting back together, but hopefully, they were restoring some sort of relationship. Kai missed having her mom in her life. Her thoughts were interrupted by Amadea, who was sitting next to her, asking, "Where do you think Kat is?" with a worried expression on her face.
"I have no idea... Honestly, I was going to ask you the same thing. Maybe her school hasn't ended yet? But then she probably would skip..." Kai trailed off, unsure of exactly what to say, before hesitantly asking, "I mean, not that it's really my business, but nothing happened between you guys or anything, right? I mean, nothing bad, that is, because, like, maybe she doesn't want to see you or something," Kai was instantly filled with regret due to her poor choice of words, and her hands flew up to her mouth, as if trying to take back the words. Kai looked up at Amadae's face to try to gauge her reaction.

A Campbell Christmas
The car pulled out of the train station and the city zoomed by as they flew through the streets toward the Campbell apartment. Next to Amadea, Kai was lost in her own thoughts, surely about her mother, Amadea assumed. Amadea herself was surprised enough about the appearance, so she couldn't imagine how Kai must be feeling right now. Amadea decided not to say anything about it, however, as she felt as though her friend wasn't in the mood to talk about it.
Thankfully, the two had better things to talk about: specifically where exactly Kat was. Amadea was kind of worried. She and her sister obviously hadn't left things on the greatest note and they hadn't had any contact at all since Amadea had been at Hogwarts. She listened as Kai shared her thoughts about where Kat could be, hiding her wince as Kai suggested that Kat didn't want to see her.
Amadea wasn't sure how much of the sister drama Kai knew about, but she figured that Kai knew something. Amadea wasn't the best at hiding her secrets, and plus Kai was her closest friend.
