Mystical Creatures Club
Hey Katie said, sitting down next to her. I was so glad that you owled me to join this club! I'm thrilled! Katie said with a grin!
It's too bad first years can't take Care of Magical Creatures. so unfair that only third years and up are allowed. she added sadly. So do you have a meeting agenda for today, or are we going to play it by ear. I'm cool with either way, I'm just so excited! Had anyone else said they wanted to join? Katie asked curiously. She hoped she wasn't the only one. The would be unfortunate. Katie couldn't understand why anyone would not be interested though. Especially of they were a first year like her and had less classes.
Katie wore a t-shirt and black sweat pants since it was the weekend. Her dark Slytherin green scarf wrapped around her neck and she wrote a silver t-shirt, not in the name of House pride, but in actuality, because it was the only clean t-shirt she had remaining in her dresser, and Katie was shamelessly in favor of washing her clothes in the last outfit she had left to wear. This had ticked her parents of to no end in the past.

Mystical Creatures Club
The young Japanese student had seen the notice for the new club go up while he had been putting up his own and it had intrigued him. One of his favourite things to learn about from his mother had been the folktales about all the many creatures of Japan but he had very little experience with the sorts of creatures that might exist here in the UK. There had been the textbook he had purchased, by one Newt Scamander, supposedly from the same House he had been sorted into. He had, of course, started flipping through it but the creatures within had been very strange and he found himself stumbling over many of the names. He had also been engaging his own curiosity on the topic in the library, reading up on myths and legends but swiftly found that there was a great deal to read about.
Perhaps this is a good opportunity to learn more, Kazuo thought to himself. It is easier to listen to others than to read right now. I could read along as the others talked, maybe. His English had come a long way, being forced to use it every day, but he still had a long way to go.
He made his way to the outdoor area that had been designated for club activities, looking for whomever might be hosting this club. Amidst the other students going about their business, he spotted two girls sitting together, one of them holding the very book he had been thinking about earlier. Taking one more long look around for any other suspects and finding none, he moved toward them.
As this was not class time, Kazuo had chosen to don his usual black skinny jeans and red shirt, adding a black zip-up hoodie against the chill in the air. He stopped in front of the girls and gave a polite bow.
"Ohayo, is this the club for learning about mystical creatures?" He asked politely, examining the two girls as he spoke. They appeared to be about his age, one an obvious snake by her scarf, the other one not noticeably sporting House colours that he could identify. "My name is Shimada Kazuo and I would like to join, if that is acceptable." He paused, realizing his mistake, such an ingrained habit. "Sorry. I mean Kazuo Shimada." He corrected with a small sigh.

Cade entered the outdoor club area his eyes narrowed from the brilliant afternoon sunlight. He was dressed in an emerald green handknit sweater, for the October breeze was getting a bit nippy in the Scottish highlands. He wasn't super thrilled about the meeting location, he'd much rather be inside with some tea. Despite his minor complaints, he was excited. He loved having something to do other than classes.Interacting with

Cade spotted two familiar girls sitting on the grass, and another boy he didn't know of settling down with them. The boy seemed a little familiar to Cade. He realized he knew his face from the many that attended the Sorting Ceremony. Cade chuckled when he realized all the people attending the meeting were of different houses. Pulling his warm sleeves over his hands he made his way to the group and stood awkwardly over them.
"Hello." A tight smile spread on his face. He pulled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them out of his leather bag. He sat between Katie and the other boy. Turning he offered his hand. "I believe I saw you at the Sorting Ceremony, we haven't officially met. I'm Cade." He hoped he sounded confident, he'd been working on that this month. Trying to come out of his little awkward shell proved to be much harder than he anticipated.

Eirian wandered out towards the club area with a slight spring to her step. She was very excited to join the Mystical Creatures club, especially since she couldn't take Care of Magical Creatures yet.
She spotted a group of four gathered around at a picnic blanket and figured that they must have been the club. As she directed her course to them, she tugged up the zipper of her black sweater to protect from the chill of the wind. The tall socks and grey plaid skirt combination was proving not to be as warm as she would have liked, but it was far too late to change now.
As she approached Eirian noted more specifically the people here, two boys and two girls, only one of which seemed familiar in any way as one of the girls wore a Slytherin scarf indicating they were in the same house.
"Hi!" Eirian greeted cheerfully. "This is the Mystical Creatures Club meeting, right? I'm Eirian; it's nice to meet you all." She flashed a smile and, noticing that most everyone had theirs out, retrieved her copy of Fantastic Beasts from her bag.
Having introduced herself, Eirian sat herself down in some open space among the group and tucked her legs beneath her.

It took nearly half an hour for Aaron to spot the yellow picnic blanket. The grounds were vast and her curiosity vaster still. She had been sidetracked by a number of things during her search, which contributed to her late arrival. Eirian had tipped her off about the club a few days prior and her enthusiasm had spread to Aaron, causing her to scribble the date and time of the first meeting on her arm. Even as time and bath water caused the ink to fade, it's presence kept her excitement burning.
Spotting Eirian's familiar silhouette among those gathered, Aaron sprinted over and flopped into a pile beside her. She grinned around at the gathered members, all of whom seemed a bit scrunched in on themselves from the cold. With her double layered oversized sweaters, loose-fitting jeans, and her fierce energy, Aaron hardly felt the cold. There seemed to be a good variety among those gathered, and she hoped she'd be able to remember all their names in a timely fashion.
"Hiya! How's it going? Sorry I'm late, there was lots to see along the way and I couldn't resist. Hope I didn't miss introductions! My name's Aaron" she greeted, swinging her legs up under her. Looking around, she noticed everyone had their copies of Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them out. She slapped her pockets. All she had was her wand, a handful of sweets and a small pocket notebook she'd been using to write down names and random magical facts. She didn't even have a bag, let alone her textbook.
She looked sheepishly over at Eirian. "Heya buddy, mind if we share?"

When Miranda entered the area she'd been owled to head to, it seemed that she was quite possibly the last to arrive. Sure, the club she headed had reasons for being so small, but surely this was enough people to form a proper group? Or if not, maybe there was a larger amount of people on-campus who liked magical creatures than she'd thought.
They all seemed a bit younger than her, which was odd, but Miranda was fine with it. There were three girls and two boys, none of which seemed overly familiar, so it was unlikely she'd ever met any of them. But that meant she could change that now!
"Hello!" she exclaimed, walking towards the others with a broad smile on her face. While she was a bookworm and a Ravenclaw at heart, the Gryffindor that was shown in her father and brother was also in her, although not as noticeable until you talked to her...or caught her on one of her escapades. "This is the meeting for the Magical Creature club, right?" Regardless of whether anyone answered, she soon barged on. "My name's Miranda Everest. Second year Ravenclaw, if you were wondering." She smiled around at everyone, fidgeting as she always tended to do.
In her arms, Dragonbait shifted at the movement, turning to watch the others with half-lidded eyes. Miranda had decided to bring her along because she'd seemed restless, but was now wondering if it had been a good idea.

Cade was pleasantly surprised about the number of people that joined them. The circle was now getting pretty tightly knit. Looking around he recognized no one but Katie and Romah. But they all introduced themselves and looked friendly. He nodded as each one approached and sat with them. He was especially interested in the small lizard a girl brought with her. Cade thought it would be a great conversation starter. Once everyone was settled with their books out and looking around at everyone, there was a moment of silence. Cade wasn't sure what was supposed to happen now that everyone was here. Were they to discuss a mystical creature? Or why only third years and up get to take Care of Magical Creatures class? He wasn't too sure. After another silent moment of grinning and nodding at each other stupidly, Cade decided to step in.Interacting with

"How about we do an icebreaker to get to know each other a little better?" Cade found himself suggesting. "Let's say our house and favorite creature... I guess I'll start. I'm Cade. I'm in Ravenclaw house and my favorite creature is the Billywig. I think it's fun to say and I heard that their wings are the key ingredient to Fizzing Whizzbees. That's why it makes you float." He turned to the Billywig page in his copy of Fantastic Beasts and showed everyone the illustration of the blue critter. "I don't know about too many other creatures so I'll be interested to hear what you all have to say." Cade then shrunk back into his shell his circuits now breaking from all the attention. His brown eyes darting around the circle pleading for someone else to take up his suggestion.

Kazuo had taken a seat with the others, watching as more people approached the group. Soon there were seven of them, a decently sized group, though he noticed they all seemed to be younger students. He had hoped that one of the older students, the ones who had started their classes on magical creatures, would join the club. They would have more knowledge and hands-on experience, after all. He watched the others awkwardly, unsure of how this club would progress. They all seemed to be at the same level of understanding.
He turned to Cade as the other boy addressed him. "Nice to meet you, Cade. I'm Kazuo." He replied with a slight smile. He fell silent again as two rather boisterous girls joined the group, their enthusiastic greetings making him draw back into himself a bit. He took the opportunity to reach into his satchel and pull out his copy of the textbook and also a couple of Japanese books.
The last girl to join them arrived, announcing herself as a second year. Kazuo's eyes lit up as he spotted the lizard in her arms. He smiled at Miranda. "Cute lizard. I wanted to bring my cat with me but they said I couldn't. What's its name?"
Kazuo fell silent as Cade spoke up, seeming to take charge of the meeting. He gave the other boy a grin and a nod at his suggestion, flipping through his books to find the creature he wanted to talk about. After Cade was done speaking, he glanced around briefly to see if one of the others would speak up before forging ahead. "I'm Kazuo and I'm a Badger." He held up his copy of Fantastic Beasts, open to the page on the phoenix. "This... I really like this one because it reminds me of Suzaku, one of the four Mythical Beasts of my home's folklore." He reached for another book, written in Japanese, and held it up to show the others an illustration of the oriental firebird. "But I..." He paused, flushing a bit with embarrassment. "I don't know how to say its name in English."
He gave the others a nervous smile, glancing around to see who would go next.

When Aaron joined the group and sat down next to her, Eirian shifted her book over so it was more between the two of them with a brief grin. She was glad that the friend she had made on the train shared her interest in creatures and joined the club as she had suggested to her.
Shortly after, another girl, who introduced herself as Miranda, came over to the group. Eirian half-listened to her introduction, staring at the lizard in the girl's arms. Why could she have her lizard but Eirian wasn't allowed to bring hers from home? She felt it was unfair but brushed off the thought for the moment as one of the boys spoke up.
Eirian nodded along to Cade's introduction and icebreaker suggestion enthusiastically, excited to finally start talking about creatures. The other boy spoke up next, introducing himself as Kazuo and pointing out the Phoenix from the textbook as his favourite creature. She had a moment of confusion over the idea that he didn't know the name phoenix, but after a moment of thought, she realised that seeming foreign, that was fair.
"Oh, we call it a phoenix," Eirian told Kazuo brightly, trying to be clear in her enunciation of the word. She paused for a moment before doing her part of the group icebreaker, "I'm Eirian, a Slytherin and my favourite creature..." she paused again, thinking hard, "It's hard to choose just one, they're all so cool. If I have to, though... Nifflers! They're adorable, and I would love to keep one even if Mr Scamander recommends against keeping them in a house in his book."

Miranda caught a few glances straying towards Dragonbait, who seemed not to notice and simply sidled further into her arms. For something so small, the lizard was surprisingly heavy, a fact Miranda would've probably done better to realize sooner. However, she didn't want to put her down just yet, so it seemed like she would have to put up with the weight for a while longer.
However, one of the boys seemed to have taken an interest in Dragonbait, and called her cute. Miranda glanced dubiously at her pet, which chose that exact moment to give her a side-eye. Well.
"Er, she's Dragonbait." Miranda replied, then caught herself. "That's her name, I mean. Dragonbait. Not like she'd bait for dragons." She didn't have much practice introducing her pet to anyone other than her family, and only now did she realize that when cedar had named her, he'd meant for something similar to happen.
"I'm Miranda and in Ravenclaw, like I already said," Miranda spoke up after Eirian did. "My favorite magical creatures are...well, I like the intelligent ones better. Centaurs, Merfolk, House elves, and uh, others." She'd almost mentioned werewolves...but that hit a bit too close to home. To avoid any guessing, she'd try not to mention them.
