Divertimento
It was nice to be alone. The grounds was his favorite part of his routine walks around the castle. The air was clear out here, and the earth hummed with an angelic sound. It was insects, buzzing and chirping gleefully, unaware of their residence so close to a famous wizard boarding school. No more screaming baby brother, no more lengthy discussions about approved paperwork, emergency calls in the middle of the night, and horses more expensive than mansions.
Just soft, whispered ringing noises, singing without even trying. He loved how effortless nature was.
His cohorts in private school had all had a good laugh at Flash's expense, calling him an old man. He didn't want to be any older than he was, it seemed like a pain. He hated how he never got to talk to his father and brothers. Their goals were lofty and important, it hardly mattered if Flash found a colorful bug. It hardly mattered if he disappeared for hours without being noticed. He would cry, he would scream, but his tantrums only worked to isolate him further. Instead, he made the teachers notice him, then his classmates, then the neighbor kids, and then their parents. In his desperation, he saw things ever so slightly clearer: to be noticed, you have to be important.
There was no dearth of happy, carefree memories with his family, but it was as if he were watching from a theater seat. He cried during the sad times, he laughed at all the funny jokes. They were brilliant, shining, and perfect. Who was 'Demetrius Holmwood?'
It was a shame that his feeling of freedom came entangled with his fear of anonymity. The castle was large, the student body and staff were innumerable, but as long as he was patient and did his rounds as often as possible, he could learn where everyone fit in. Without anything to be excellent in, he would just have to create excellence out of thin air. It seemed nothing was easy, even being a kid.

For we dreamed a lot//And we schemed a lot//And we tried to sing of love before the stage fell apart
