Magic was fun, it was wild and it had moments that always kept him in awe. But he was still very much a kid who was rooted in a world without magic, one where the concept of magic seemed to be limited. He didn't grow up like a cave child who played with sticks and stones, but he was someone who was pretty tactile. He desired the feeling of things in his hands and often felt idle without something in it. This lead him in the Grounds where he trekked for a bit till he stumbled upon a beautiful(lightly said) small branch that seemed to look great as a slingshot.

Naturally, he picked it up and used a rock to fashion it down to what he wanted. Either delirium from lack of sleep or sheer obsession, Reid spent almost a full hour or so messing with it till he got it down to what he wanted. His trousers seemed to be stained with dirt and his white dress shirt became untucked with a few smudges on it. A slingshot wasn't a slingshot without a sling, so he took to his book bag to look for something elastic enough to use. "Come on ..."

Finally, with some rubber bands and some persistence, he created the world's shabbiest projectile weapon whilst he kneeled on the grass. When he was alone, he felt better to be who he was, a kid. Part of him had the need to pretend or force himself to be more mature, less carefree, it was just something he learned in at the academy. With that, the young man stabbed the long end into the dirt without care and took a few small stones in his hand.

Yes, if he couldn't beat large spiders with magic, he could beat them with a few rocks to the eye. It was all fun for him as he tried to get the sling to work, many of it came in adjustments. He shortened the bands to make it shoot faster and farther, it was progress well met. Reid had seen some of the students look at him curiously, some simply looking amused as they waved a hello at him, one he returned.

He looked silly, sure, but it was the one time in the last two weeks he was able to just find some fun. Well, this was his version of fun. Reid launched another pebble to test the verticality of it, he didn't really know if he was going to hit anyone or not. There wasn't a clear goal to this 'experiment', he just wanted to use the thing till it broke. The Hufflepuff boy was barely thinking about where he was aiming too when he let that pebble fly loose.

Alecks was walking down to the lake when he felt something hit the side of his head, hard. Spinning his head around to find the culprit of the thrown pebble. When he looked to his left, a group of girls giggling as they walked. As he turned to look to his right, he saw a face that he had heard about around the school.

"Hey! You're Reid right?" Alecks felt a blush spread across his face as he spoke to the student with a higher position. "Aren't you the Head Boy of Hufflepuff?"

Alecks bent down to pick up the pebble and found that it was almost perfectly round. A gasp left his lips as he studied the pebble. Alecks sat down in front of the other boy as he just stared in awe at the stone.

"Sorry," he breathed out, "I've just never seen a natural rock so smooth and round. It fascinating, isn't it, how nature could make such a jagged rock and smooth as a baby's bottom?" Alecks giggled as he looked at the other boy, who was still standing.

"You know you could sit, get to know the person you assaulted?" Alecks' voice had many emotions behind it: hope, fear, and anticipation.

Reid's expression fell as he saw where his shot had landed, upon an unfortunate victim's head. Crap. He didn't mean to do that, it prompted the boy to shoot up from where he stood. "Oh man, I'm sor -" Reid was about to release a full blown apology to the Ravenclaw student for hitting him with the pebble, abruptly stopping as the boy began to talk. Was he that known in the school? It was flattering but also a little new for someone like him, he was a kid who kept a low profile as much as he could.

He was stumped to see the boy simply sit down in front of him after all of this. But he didn't mind! "Oh the rock?" It was kind of fascinating, he had  Wait, getting to know him? It was an odd request from the guy he accidentally just shot, but he was quite fond of the idea. It caught him off guard because he expected him to leave, perhaps in a fit of rage. "I'm sorry about the rock, really. I didn't know how far it was going to really go." he beamed rather childishly as he sat down.

The Hufflepuff boy brushed his dirty hands on his trousers, sticking them out to the boy as a handshake. "I'm Reid, the guy who probably should have aimed better. But I think you know both of that, it's a pleasure to meet you." It wasn't the ideal way to meet someone, but at least he would hopefully get to know someone in the end. The student seemed nice enough, perhaps it was a good sign that he could make a friend out of him too.

His hair was interesting to Reid too, it was an unnatural shade to him - not that he disliked it. Maybe it was natural? He's never seen a kid in Derby or Hogwarts wear hair like that though, it was memorable to say the least.

"Oh you are fine, really," Alecks spoke with a smile on his face, hoping to befriend the Hufflepuff. His eyes follow the other boys hands as they wipe off the dirt onto the males pants, and then he extends one while introducing himself. Alecks froze, seeing as he doesn't usually touch anyone who has recently touched anything dirty due is nails almost always being done just to perfection. His eyes slowly trail down to his own hands and see that there were no perfectly done nails today, and takes the hand of the other boy.

"I'm Alecksander, Alecksander Power. The guy who should have been looking where he was walking. If you hadn't have hit my head, I would have tripped over that root over there," Alecks' lanky arm points to right in front of where he had gotten hit, straight at a huge tree root," and fallen smack dab onto my beautiful face," he chuckles as he finishes his sentence with how beautiful he was. Just his style. Alecks' eyes then notice that Reid's eyes have flown to his hair and he immediately got extremely self-conscience.

'I-Is it the color he doesn't like? Or maybe the length? I know a lot of people don't like how long I keep my hair," Alecks' mind slowly went to his ex-boyfriend, but once he realized his own mood change, he shook his head and cleared his mind from the bad thoughts. He opened his mouth to speak to Reid, but he couldn't think of the right words to say. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, and then he actually spoke, "Do you like my hair?" A blush covered Alecks' cheeks as the words came out of his mouth. His booted feet started toeing the ground as nerves started to get to him, and he began hoping he didn't mess up everything.

Alecksander Power. There seemed to be a lot of students named either Towers or Powers, maybe they were related? Well, not all of them looked related and yet the name seemed to be all too common. A slightly choked laugh came from him, his throat obviously a little dry from spending time out on the grounds for too long. It was good to know that Alecksander had humor, he was afraid he was going to get scolded for being so careless.

Yet he wouldn't blame the student for being upset if he was, no one would want to get hit by a pebble in the first place. He pulled his hand away from the shake and set his slingshot down beside him. Reid arched his brow, wondering why the boy seemed uncomfortable. Well, that was what he got from him. "Your hair?" he repeated, crookedly smiling. Did he like it? Of course he did! How could he not? It was such a different color, one that was similarly out of the blue.

He never expected someone to wear such a shade, it was very uncommon. Plus, it looked really interesting in the sun. The student then firmly nodded in Alecksander's direction. "It's cool! I've never seen hair that color before, were you born with it?" The wind caused his tie to fly sideways, making him notice how loose it really was. He began fixing it as a result, tightening it at such an odd length.

"Kind of reminds me of cotton candy." he chirped. Wait, did he know what that was? Was it just a muggle thing? Sometimes no one understood him when he'd reference things from the muggle world. The boy's hands moved to try and mimic what he was trying to explain. "It's muggle candy, kind of like clouds - in case you didn't know, I mean."

Alecks gradually calmed down after hearing the other boy say that he liked his hair. 'okay, so he likes my hair,' Once asked if it was natural, a smile spread across Alecks' face, "Oh no, long story short, I used to live in Ireland and I made a really good friend. My mum told me that the family had to move, so to remember Valencia, my friend, I dyed my hair lilac and she dyed her's a rainbow." The smile on Alecks' face grew as he remembered both of them trying to figure out how to dye hair the day before he moved, and suddenly was very happy that he could see her again at school. A blush spread over Alecks' face as Reid said that his hair reminded him of cotton candy, and then explained what cotton candy was, much to Alecks' amusement, and after Alecks' explained that he knew what cotton candy was and thought it was kind of cute how Reid explained it. "What's your favorite flavour of cotton candy? Mine would probably be green apple or blue raspberry." Alecks then noticed how crooked Reid tie had gotten when he "fixed" it. He reached over and began to re-tie Reid's tie as a blush covered Alecks' cheeks and ears from the close proximity.
