Lavender’s Blue
The blonde had already walked by the Great Lake in search of pretty stones or shells. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much for collecting there. It wasn’t like her seaside hometown where she could easily find something of worth to her along the coast. Over the summer, she would add to her seashell collection but for now foliage would do. Flowers were pressed into her school books, annoying her a little each time they fell from their pages. There had to be a better way to keep them, perhaps in a journal of some kind.
It was a lazy Sunday. Dymphna didn’t have anywhere else to be so she wandered, picking flowers and some stems that she suspected could be used in Potions. “Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green,” she sang softly. It wasn’t something she did in front of others but there didn’t seem to be anyone else around, despite the rare sunshine peeking out from the clouds. Though she was of Veela ancestry, it wasn’t enough to have any impact on another person. Thankfully, she didn’t have the ability to spout fire from her hands when angered like her grandmother did.
“When I am king, dilly dilly, you shall be queen: Who told you so, dilly dilly, who told you so? 'Twas mine own heart, dilly dilly, that told me so.” Her father was a Historian that taught her a variety of songs but the one about kings and queens was her favorite. Fairytales weren’t exactly her forte - history was much more interesting to her but there was a certain appeal of a royal couple in love and ruling together. Perhaps when she was much older, she would have a marriage that seemed just as perfect as the ones in fairytales.

Lavender’s Blue
Splurp Splurp Splurp…
John was taking a nice walk along the beach. He left his shoes and robe some distance away. Though he had rolled up the ends of his trousers a bit, they were already above the ankle to begin with. His odd leg length left him without a proper pant size, so they always looked too small in length. All of this effort was in order to avoid getting his clothes too wet. He hadn’t quite mastered the clothes-washing spells.
It was a favorite pastime of John’s to go scavenging around the beach. He’d often spend summers gathering seashells and knickknacks that happened to wash up on shore. He’d often discover seabirds, seals, and all manner of creatures along the way. Of course, he’d always go barefoot; he loved the feel of the sand between his toes. The lake at Hogwarts didn’t really have many shells and no seals were to be found. But the sand felt just as good between his toes. And just like back home, the suction of sand and water upon his feet caused the boy to walk around like a silly stork. It was enough of a reminder of his early childhood to keep him from forgetting his roots.
John’s feet “splurped” all down the shoreline until he came across another student. She seemed to be singing about kings, queens, and dill pickles. Odd, but not odd enough for this place. Still, odd enough for the inquisitive to inquire.
“Why are you singing about dill pickles?” John asked Dymphna.
