Amadea Campbell & Rhea Bishop

It was a day after the incident in the Herbology greenhouse and Amadea was still freaking out for multiple reasons. For starters, she had almost caused the death of two students, one including herself. She had also managed to damage the plant as well, though she was much less concerned about the well being of the plant and much more concerned about the well being of the innocent bystander who happened to become caught up in the mess, her new friend Rhea Bishop. Friend? Amadea wasn't sure if she knew Rhea well enough to call her a friend, but after all of the trials and tribulation they had gone through (and nearly dying) Amadea was sure that Rhea was more than just an acquaintance.

If Amadea was being honest, she was quite surprised that Rhea had allowed Amadea to her be her friend. After all, Amadea had barged into the greenhouse, disrupted whatever Rhea was doing there, almost caused her to die, broke her ankle, and probably caused the poor Gryffindor a lot of problems that could have easily been avoided if Amadea hadn't been so clumsy. While Amadea definitely didn't regret meeting Rhea, she definitely regretted meeting Rhea in such a terrible situation.

Thankfully, today seemed to be a little bit better. While Amadea was still feeling guilty, it wasn't the same kind of overwhelming guilt she had felt the day before in the hospital wing. And that was only her emotional pain. Her physical pain was still much worse. While the salve had definitely made huge strides in healing Amadea's skin, it was still not close to being healed yet. Her skin was red and charred and very, very sensitive. The slightest touch of anything against her skin felt like razors slicing into her skin. The breeze that was wafting through the trees was currently causing Amadea a lot of pain.

She found a nice sturdy tree away from the rest of the commotion that was happening on the Grounds and sat down at the base of it. It was a beautiful day out; birds were chirping and the sun was shining. Amadea wished she felt as wonderful as the day looked. She could be having fun with the rest of the students who were swimming in the lake, playing Quidditch, and running carefree around the Grounds. Then again, she probably couldn't have fun with them, she thought, remembering her burns. While they had caused a lot of inconvenience for her, Amadea was still more concerned about Rhea's ankle. Rhea was much more athletic than Amadea, who partook in swimming and daily walks around the Grounds. Rhea was a quidditch player and seriously needed her ankle to be in good condition so she could play well. Amadea had a sinking feeling that she had caused much more damage than it seemed. If Rhea could no longer play Quidditch, Amadea's guilt would never leave her.

She was so consumed in her thoughts that she almost missed seeing Rhea as she walked by. Amadea stood hastily, ignoring the searing pain as her robes scratched against her skin and waved to the girl, hoping that she would notice. "Rhea!" she called out. "Hi! How are you doing?"

❝somebody speak to me
'cause i'm feeling like hell❞
The night was spent in a state of turmoil. Rhea could not, for the life of her, find a position to be comfortable in, and in the end she'd just given up on sleep. She simply decided to lay on her back and stare at the ceiling, switching her gaze to the window when the sun started to creep up. Her ankle, although it didn't hurt as much, still had a dull throbbing that shot a small jolt of pain throughout it whenever she moved her weight onto it. But it wasn't as bad as it could've been. At least she could walk - that is, hobble.

The day after the accident, Rhea decided to take a walk through the grounds. Why? To prove that she could still walk, that not everything was lost. Maybe, just maybe, if she managed to walk down a bajillion stairs and all the way out onto the Grounds, without her ankle collapsing, then she could still play Quidditch. Maybe if she made it out, she could pretend that her ankle wasn't messed up.

But it was, for halfway there her ankle twisted and she mis-landed on a step, forcing her to catapult down the stairs. Luckily for her, she was only ten or so steps away from the ground, so the fall wasn't as bad as it could have been. Rhea shakily got up, her ankle folding underneath her. And then collapsed back down onto the ground.

You can do this.

If she could just get to the Grounds, she could call it a day. Then, she would have been able to prove to herself that ruining her ankle was not the end of the world. That she was still her, Rhea Bishop (the second), and that she was still able to get on a broom and fly; that she would still be able to feel the powerful wind blowing against her face as she soared above the Earth.

Suddenly, a small burst of adrenaline rushed through her. She got up and hobbled to the double doors, throwing them open as best as she could and walking outside. With a deep breath, Rhea breathed in the fresh air of outside. She made it. She was outside.

With a whoop and a holler, Rhea started to laugh. She walked forwards, with no specific destination in mind, still chuckling under her breath. There was no reason to laugh - but there was no reason not to laugh either. Anyone looking at her might call her crazy, but she made it outside with a sprained ankle. Rhea was... ecstatic.

As she slowly got used to walking around with a hurt ankle, Rhea decided to admire the sights. The first to catch her eyes was the Quidditch field. She was always on it, never on the side. It felt nice to be able to see how the field looked like from an outsider's point of view - she could even glimpse a few players playing a practice game. A small pang went through her, jealousy that she couldn't join them. But it was fine, right? She would be able to join them eventually.

And besides, she could do other things. A voice calling out her name forced her to turn around, and she grinned when she saw a girl with large curly hair waving her over. Rhea smiled and tried to pick up her pace, failing. Instead, she settled on simply hobbling over, waving back at the other redheaded girl. "Hello!" she exclaimed when she finally reached her friend. Realizing that it would be awkward to just stand there, Rhea began the painful journey that it would take to sit down. She had to fold down her healthy leg underneath first, and extend her injured one in front of her, making sure not to put to pressure on it.

"I'm doing quite well, you?" Rhea inquired, wanting to know the answer. Was Amadea still suffering from the pain brought on to her by the burns, or had it lessened? "Do your burns still hurt as bad?" Truthfully, Rhea didn't think being outside was the best thing to do if Amadea was burned, and she couldn't help but worry about the Hufflepuff. What if she gets a splinter from the tree she was laying against? Or what if... what if... Rhea needed to stop focusing on the what ifs. If something happened, then they would deal with it in due time. "My ankle doesn't hurt quite as much as before, I have a good feeling I'll be able to ride a broom come September... August if I'm lucky."

Amadea tried to stare inconspicuously at Rhea as she hobbled over to the tree where Amadea was sitting. Amadea assumed she hadn’t done a great job of being suave about staring, since she wasn’t very good at being suave in the first place. Also, Amadea was quite worried. The words that Rhea had spoken in the hospital wing right before they had left still were ringing in Amadea’s mind. No matter how many times either of them had reassured the other that everything was okay, it never seemed to work.

Rhea reached the tree and Amadea tried to keep her face in a neutral expression as she watched the girl struggle to sit down in a comfortable position next to Amadea. She shifted a bit to make more room for Rhea but accidentally rubbed her back up against the tree causing a blast of pain to spring throughout her nerve endings in her back. It was painful, but Amadea tried not to let it show. Thankfully, it seemed as though Rhea hadn't noticed since she was dealing with her own pain of trying to straighten her leg without putting any pressure on it. Amadea winced, not from her own pain, but watching Rhea struggle through her own. It looked like such a hassle to just do normal things like sitting down and Amadea felt so bad for Rhea.

"I'm glad you're doing okay," Amadea said, relief visible in her voice, despite the feelings of doubt in the back of her mind. "Not until August?!" Amadea exclaimed. "I'm so sorry!" She wasn't quite sure if she was apologizing about the fact that Rhea couldn't ride a broom until August or for being the reason why Rhea couldn't ride a broom until August. Everyone else would most likely be practicing and trying to improve so they could get onto the Quidditch team. Amadea hoped Rhea would be able to practice and stay in shape for school. If she didn't get on the team, Amadea would feel even more guilty than she already did. Amadea knew Quidditch was important to Rhea.

"My burns are okay," she added. "Better than yesterday," she said with a little laugh. "Healing will take a while though." She sighed. While Amadea was glad to have made a new friend, she wished that she and Rhea hadn't almost died the day before.

"it's the eye of the tiger
it's the thrill of the fight"

Making sure that she was quite comfortable, Rhea looked at her kind friend. The Hufflepuff in front of her seemed to only be worrying about Rhea, rather than herself. It confused the young Gryffindor, who had grown up in a family where it was, basically, survival of the fittest. Everyone cared about themselves and themselves only, instead of worrying about everyone around them. Albeit, Rhea wasn't like the rest of her family, but it was still a rare sight to see someone so... so selfless.

Tilting her head to adjust her position, and to make her neck not have to carry all the weight of her drooping head, Rhea smiled at Amadea. Why was this girl constantly worrying about her? All throughout their 'adventure,' Rhea kept trying to focus all of her attention on Amadea, while Amadea was doing the opposite. Although, it did seem to cancel out - each of the girls had someone worrying about them. But still, Rhea didn't think she had a big enough injury to be worried so much. Especially not to the extent Amadea was! Rhea didn't know how to calm her friend down, except by showing her that she really was okay. But how was she supposed to do that?

"You really shouldn't worry about me this much. Worry about yourself instead! Your burns won't heal themselves," Rhea bit her lip and her eyes widened as Amadea exclaimed that she was sorry. Sorry? For what? Could she possibly think that it was her fault that Rhea wouldn't be able to play Quidditch or ride a broom till August? "It's not your fault! Really, it's not."

Worrying about other people had to be a Hufflepuff quality, or perhaps just an Amadea quality. Although Rhea did appreciate the caring about her wellbeing, she couldn't help but worry that Amadea wasn't worrying enough about her own wellbeing. Was she too focused on Rhea's ankle that she stopped caring about her burns? If that was the case, then the burns would never heal!

"I promise my ankle is nothing to worry about. You should really just focus on trying to cure yourself.. or else, the burns will only get worse, yes?" Rhea sighed and rubbed her hands over her face, not liking the situation they were in. Why did they have to get this injuries? It sucked! They would both suffer for a while... but at least now they knew not to venture into the greenhouse without Professor Wright.

Her Gryffindor friend seemed to keep deflecting all of Amadea's worry and concern, preferring to talk about Amadea's own burns rather than the sorry state of her ankle. While Amadea appreciated Rhea's worry, she was also baffled as to why the other girl was feeling bad. It wasn't like she had been the one who tripped into the deadly plant that almost killed them all. It was almost impossible for Amadea to wrap her head around the fact that she had nearly caused both of their deaths. Even though she knew deep down that it truly was an accident, a voice in the back of her head kept reminding her that she could have died.

"Of course I'm worried about you!" Amadea exclaimed. "You nearly died!" Sure, it was a bit of an exaggeration, but if Rhea hadn't cast the fire spell, it slowly would have suffocated them in the next few minutes. Rhea was her savior. "I just feel so bad because if I hadn't tripped then the whole situation could have been avoided. Plus, your summer will be ruined now! You won't be able to practice for Quidditch!" Amadea's voice had risen several decibels and was now at a near shriek. To be honest, Amadea wasn't quite sure why she was so freaked out still, but nothing Rhea was saying was helping to calm her down.

Sighing, Amadea leaned back against the tree, ignoring the pain on her skin from the scratchy bark. "I suppose not," she finally relented as Rhea commented about how worrying wouldn't help heal her burns. "I just hope we both heal quickly." It would be a shame if they couldn't have any fun over the summer because of their injuries.

As Amadea sat, watching the students nearby talking and laughing, she realized that she knew virtually nothing about Rhea and yet they had still bonded. Given, the near-death experience had definitely been a factor as to how they had bonded so quickly, but Amadea still didn't know much about Rhea except that she was a Prefect and in Gryffindor. "So," Amadea began, wondering how to segway away from the topic of their injuries. "Tell me more about yourself."

when all is said and done

Image posted by the member they needed to stop worrying so much about each other. What was done is done, and there was no point in over worrying. It was not like anything could change anyway, right? Smiling and shaking her head, Rhea sighed and took a deep breath. They would be fine. This was not a permanent injury - although Amadea had the possibility of getting some scarring, Rhea hoped that the nurse had done her job well and gotten rid of that possibility.

Rhea noticed Amadea glancing around at the students surrounding them, and bit her lip. They were all running around, laughing, bonding. A brief thought passed through her mind: would the two redheads still be able to be friends without only worrying about each other? Yes, they had bonded - it was hard not to do so when you have suffered through a near death experience - but what could they talk about that didn't involve them wondering if the other was alright?

However, Rhea had faith. Amadea was a girl that Rhea wanted to be friends with, and the Gryffindor was willing to put in the effort needed to keep their friendship going. Besides, it couldn't be that hard. The initial connection needed to spark a friendship was there, so all they needed to do was build on it. Which was easy for someone like Rhea, who was quite familiar with having to make friends & acquaintances quickly - who knew that all those dinner parties her parents had dragged her to as a child would finally pay off?

"Based off what the nurse said, we should be healed quickly," Rhea shrugged. "I just hope it's not a painful recovery. That would not be fun," she smiled, imagining how she would attend dinner parties with a sprained ankle. Or wait, maybe she wouldn't have to! "Actually, this sprained ankle might not be so bad. I probably won't have to attend the various parties and dinners my parents would usually drag me to! See, there's always a good side to everything bad."

She was taught by her nanny to always look for good in the bad, and that was what she was doing now. Rhea hoped that Amadea would do the same, because it really helped elevate one's state of mind. Falling silent for a while, Rhea thought of what to say. She was saved from having to do so when Amadea asked her a question. A cheesy question, but a question nonetheless.

"I never really know how to answer this question," the redhead laughed but tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Well, I'm Rhea, and erm... I like to paint! And play the piano. I also hope to learn more instruments, but my mother does not want me learning anything other than the piano. I guess I don't mind, I get to focus more on the piano. I've always wanted a pet, maybe a cat or a dog. Preferably both. But, once again, my parents did not like that idea. How about you?"

It seemed as though both girls couldn't get the worry out of their heads, no matter how hard they tried. Amadea didn't blame them for that, though. Anyone who had gone through the situation that they had would be worrying. After all, they had almost died. Well, maybe that was an exaggeration. But if they hadn't done anything, it would have ended in some possibly fatal wounds.

Amadea knew that her relationship with Rhea was purely based on the fact that they had gone through a life or death situation with her and knew that they really didn't know anything about each other besides that. It was kind of funny how Amadea considered Rhea a close friend but really didn't know anything about the girl.

Now that Amadea had a chance to get to know her Gryffindor friend, Amadea made a promise to herself in her mind.  She needed to stop worrying so much about Rhea. She could fend for herself just as well as Amadea could fend for herself. She didn't want Rhea worrying about her, so she would do the same and not worry about Rhea. They couldn't form a good relationship if they were too busy worrying about the well being of the other.

Amadea wasn't sure how well this would work out, especially since she wasn't the best at making conversation. She tended to come up blank when thinking of things to say in a conversation and always was at least a sentence or two behind the other people who were talking. She often would just spurt out some random thing that came off of the top of her head because she was so desperate to say something to keep the conversation going. It appeared as though Rhea had much more experience with the whole conversing thing, which was comforting. Amadea had faith that they were both interested enough in getting to know each other better that they would both put in enough effort so they weren't sitting in awkward silences.

"Well, that's good looking on the bright side," Amadea said with a laugh. She couldn't imagine her parents dragging her to parties or fancy events. In the short span that she had been alive, she had attended very few parties and fancy events. She didn't come from a wealthy Pureblood family like some of the other students at Hogwarts and wasn't accustomed to the fancy ways of their culture. Amadea personally felt grateful that she didn't come from a Pureblood family. While it might have been helpful to have had some more knowledge about the wizarding world before she came to Hogwarts, she caught up quickly. She was glad she didn't have parents that were breathing down her neck to do well and make the family proud. It all seemed like a lot of pressure and Amadea performed best when she was not worrying about letting other people down. "Hopefully the nurse is right though, and we will be better soon."

Rhea segwayed into the next topic, introducing herself again and stating a few facts about herself. "I play the piano as well!" Amadea said, glad they could find something that they had in common. "I've played since I was very little; I really love music. I can play other instruments besides piano, so if you ever want to learn, I could try to give you some lessons! I also would love to own an animal, but my parents never wanted one," she added. "Though it was always because we lived in London and our apartment was too small for an animal. Now that I'm living in Camberley, it might be different." Now that Amadea was saying it out loud, she realized that her family troubles might be a bit confusing for Rhea since Amadea hadn't said anything about them or explained anything. Amadea debated whether to go into more detail, but didn't know how much she should tell Rhea since, after all, they really didn't know each other that well. It might be annoying for Amadea to spill all of her family's personal troubles on a girl she had pretty much just met. She decided to say nothing, and sat back against the tree, waiting for Rhea to respond.
