Looks: Buffy doesn't stand out physically among British children. Average height and weight, black hair, brown eyes. Many remark she is cute, until they get to know her better. The occasional cuts and bruises she gets from fighting and assorted mischief are hidden away when possible, or otherwise proudly displayed.

But, Buffy does stand out in other ways. The cut of her jib is one thing that draws notice. Inspired by her older brother and friends' fashion her attire is mostly black, with as many accessories she can get her hands on. Safety pins, chokers, necklaces, bracelets, chains, belts, pins, ribbons; non-exhaustively. A Hogwarts robe may not be entirely unwelcome, as long as it's been properly altered and decorated. Hair dyed some unnatural color completes her look, at least for now, as Buffy has yet to find someone to pierce an 11 year old's face.

Attitude: Lots. A bundle of youthful chaos, Buffy acts out constantly. A sort of performance that never ends. She sees it a little differently however. In the environment she grew up in, mischief was just how people had fun. It's the rest of the world that is wrong, and boring. She's of course very aware that this world is built and maintained by people with very different interpretations of fun. That they find her attitude bothersome and disruptive. At best. That doesn't bother her. It just makes the challenge of expressing herself more rewarding.

On another note, Buffy also genuinely hates her family life. As long as it amuses her, she will actively channel those frustrations to bother and annoy groups she resents; groups which happen to be dull to her:
  • The popular. They float through life, buoyed by constant love and help.
  • And the wealthy. Seemingly untouched by problems, their money fixes everything.
  • But most of all the authorities. They are supposed to help people like her, but never have.
Those who suck up to one of these groups will sometimes receive a much lighter version of her treatment. And unfortunately, Buffy is also quite smart. This childlike, feral intelligence has allowed her to build up an impressive repertoire of annoyance for an eleven year old. But reacting to Buffy in a way she respects can change her attitude to someone. In her experience, crying, sitting around, bravado, and impotent rage don't fix problems. They make them worse. Cleverness, earned confidence, discipline, and determination do. Buffy comes around to people who show those qualities.

In fact, this allows her bad attitude to work as a friendship initiation ritual. It lets her know she can trust people to be strong like her, that they can keep up with her, should they go on an adventure or just make trouble. What few friends she has, most were started with quarrels. These turned into truces, they then became grudging respect, until finally a moment occurred, the ice broke, and it was clear they were really friends all along. They had simply started the relationship with an argument.

Buffy is loyal to her friends to a fault. Suffering herself has made her sensitive to the suffering of others. Even if she'd never admit it. And having come out tougher because of her own, Buffy is rather indifferent to being hurt more. So as long as it doesn't affect her image, she will readily take on the problems, discomfort, or suffering of her friends. To save them from it. After all it doesn't bother her, why not? In extreme situations she may even do this for strangers.

Past: Buffy was born to a single mother, who lost her boyfriend and home a year after Buffy's birth. Buffy was raised in a caravan most of her life. Sometimes her mother could create trust in a relationship long enough to acquire housing, and not just for herself. At least for as long before it imploded, which it always did. Her mother otherwise spent her time focusing on trying to forget her responsibilities, and when she was home she tended to bring the continued neglect of her problems with her. Or some lover's quarrel, with a poorly chosen lover.

Buffy's older brother, Benji, helped raise Buffy in her mother's absence. Arranging to sleep at a friend's house when needed, feeding her, and helping with school. And when Buffy was old enough to walk at a decent pace her brother would also take her to hang out with his friends. At first she was seen as a burden and ignored or picked on, but her spunk and seemingly unbreakable spirit eventually won them over. Buffy became the group's beloved and protected little sister. She was useful too, being trained by the group to lift in shops, look out for police when they put up graffiti, and help the group talk to girls. After her brother joined a punk band they would took her to all ages shows, and sometimes even sneaked her into adult ones.

Meanwhile, school was boring for Buffy. The kids were dumb and learning was an insufferable torture before being let loose to trash Cardiff with the gang. And her attitude, poverty, and appearance made her a target for bullies. As she always talked backed it eventually escalated to fighting, and being fierce and scrappy the other kids learned to gang up on her. After one day of this, one she was particularly not enjoying, upon screaming the ground burst from underneath her bullies' feet leaving them showered in turf and grass. Buffy knew not how or why. And no one else knew about it all, after the obliviators got done with them. Her insistence that it did happen and her attempts at screaming at the ground the next day to prove it did only made the bullying worse, and earned her a few new nicknames.

All that was interrupted by her owl from Hogwarts. It was bonkers. It almost kind of made sense. And of course the idea of using magic appealed to the 11 year old, as it should to any. But Buffy had trouble imagining a life without Benji. They had never been apart. So leaving to study at some posh school, even magic, seemed inconceivable.

At least until Benji found out. He was having none of her staying. This was an opportunity. After several heated discussions, Benji won Buffy over with the argument that of course he would miss her, but it would also be less work for him. A lot less. He could finally focus on his own life, attention undivided. They could both work on bettering, really make something of themselves, in a way they couldn't now. Then they'd move back in together in 7 years and take over the world.
